2. SET UP THE TELEPHONE
2.1 PackageContents

2.2 Location
For maximum coverageandreducetheinterference,herearesome
guidelines youshould consider w henyouplacethebaseunit,
- placeit at aconvenient,high, andcentrallocationwithnoobstructions
betweenthehandsetandbaseunitin an indoor environment.
- placeit away fromelectronic appliances suchas televisions,microwave
ovens,radios,personalcomputers,wireless devices or other cordless
phones.
- avoidfacingradio frequencytransmitters,suchas externalantennas of
mobile phone cell stations.
- avoidplugging it into the same circuitas other major householdelectrical
appliances becauseof thepotentialfor interference.Try movingthe
applianceor the baseunit to another poweroutlet.
If the receptionfor abaseunit location is notsatisfactory,moveit to another
location for better reception.
Depending onthe surrounding conditions as wellas spatialand structural
factors,therangemay be reduced.The rangeindoors is normally less than
outdoors.

2.3 Connect the Corded Base Station
Plug one end of
the telephone line
cordinto a
telephone jack or a
DSL filter.
If youhaveDSL high-
speedInternet service,
a DSL filter (not
included) is required.
Route the telephone
line cordthroughthis
slot.
Click the wallmount
bracketsecurely into
the mounting slots for
tabletop use.
Plug the otherend of
the telephone line cord
into the telephone
jack on the backof the
telephone base.
Plug the large end of
the telephone base
pow er adapter intoa
pow er outlet.
Route the power
adapter cordthrough
this slot.
Plug the small end of
the telephone base
pow er adapter intothe
pow er adapter jack
on the backof the
telephone base.
Plug the corded
handsetcordinto the
cordedhandsetjack
on the backof the
telephone base.
NOTE
•Use only the power adapter suppliedwiththebasestation.
Plug the power adapter
into a poweroutlet.

2.4 Install and Charge the HandsetBattery
1. Plug the battery connector securelyintothesocketinsidethehandsetbattery
compartment. Insert the suppliedbattery as indicated.
2. Align thecoverflatagainstthe battery compartment, and thenslide it upwards
until it clicks into place.
3. Charge thehandsetby placing it faceforwardin thecharger.Youhear abeep
whenthehandsetis chargingin thecharger.
NOTES
•Use only the supplied NiMH rechargeablebattery pack.
•If youdo not usethe handsetforalong time, disconnectandremovethe battery
to preventpossible leakage.

2.5 Base Station Installation options
Your telephonebaseis ready for tabletopuse. If youw anttomount your telephone
on a wall,follow thesteps toconnectthetelephonebase withastandarddual-stud
telephone wallmounting plate. Youmay need a professionaltoinstall the mounting
plate.
2.5.1 Tabletop to Wall Mount Installation
1. Unplug thepower adapter fromthepower outlet.Unplugthetelephone line cord
fromthe w alljack(or DSL filter).
2. Put the cordedhandsetaside.Hold downtheswitchhookonthetelephonebase,
and then slidethe handsettab upwardstoremoveit fromthe slot. Rotate the
handsettab by180 degrees.Then,replacethe handsettab into the slot until it
locks intoposition.
3. Press downonthetabs of the wallmount bracketto releaseit fromtabletop
orientation.
4. Rotate the wallmountbracketdownandpushit into thetelephone baseuntil it
clicks into place.
5. Plug the telephone line cord(orDSL filter)into the walljack.Plug the power
adapter into a power outlet.Aligntheslots ontheback of thetelephone basewith
the studs of thewallmounting plate.
6. Slide the telephone basedownuntilit locks securely.Bundlethetelephone line
cordandpower adapter cordneatly w ithtwistties.

2.5.2 Wall Mount to Tabletop Installation
1. Unplug thepower adapter fromthepower outlet.Unplugthetelephone line
cordfromthe walljack(or DSL filter).If the telephone line cordandpower
adapter cordarebundled, untie them first.Pushthe telephone baseup to
remove it fromwall.
2. Put the cordedhandsetaside.Hold downtheswitchhookonthetelephone
base,and then slidethe handsettab upwardstoremoveit fromthe slot.
Rotate the handsettabby 180 degrees.Then,replacethehandsettabinto the
slot until it locks intoposition.
3. Gently pull upwardtoreleasethewallmount bracket.Rotate the wallmount
bracketupto tabletop positionand pushit into thetelephone baseuntil it clicks
into place.
4. Plug the telephone line cord(orDSL filter)into the walljack.Plug the power
adapter into an power outlet.Bundlethe telephone line cordandpower
adapter cordneatly withtwistties if necessary.

In editing mode, a cursoris displayedtoindicate the currenttextentry position.It is
positioned atthe right of the lastcharacter entered.
Writing Tips:
1. Oncea characteris selected,thecursor willmoveto the nextposition after a
shortpause.
2. Youcanmovethecursor withinthetextby / to amend thetext entry.
3. Press CANCEL/MUTE onthe handset,or INT/MUTE/CLEAR onthe

Using the base:
Enter the phone number and liftthe cordedhandsetorpress SPEAKER to dial the
number. Press INT/MUTE/CLEAR to clearthe entry whenenteringthenumber.
4.1.2 Direct Dialing
Using the base:
Lift the cordedhandsetor press SPEAKER totake theline and enter the phone
number.
4.1.3 Call from the Phonebook
Using the base:
Press PHONEBOOK to access thephonebookand press / to selectthe desired
phonebook entry.Liftthecordedhandsetor press SPEAKER to dial out to the
selectedphonebookentry.
