beverage vending machine.
You have made a good choice because Gerhardt coffee
speciality machines are among the best on the market in this
performance class.

To ensure that the automatic speciality coffee machine always
works reliably over many years, you should pay particular
attention to the instructions for cleaning and care as well as for
operation.
Your Gerhardt S-Series is a professional vending system
designed exclusively for the commercial sector.

1General information
1.1 Information about this manual
This manual enables safe and efficient use of the machine.
The basic prerequisite for safe working is compliance with all
safety instructions and handling instructions given in this manual.
In addition, the local industrial safety regulations and general
safety regulations for the area of application of the machine
apply.
In order to avoid personal injury and material damage, you must
read and understand these instructions carefully before starting
any work.
The manual is an integral part of the machine and must be kept
in the immediate vicinity of the machine, accessible to personnel
at all times.
If the machine is passed on to third parties, these instructions
must also be provided.
Please note that these instructions apply to various versions of
vending machines. Details might therefore be covered, which are
not included with your machine.
Illustrations in this manual are for basic understanding only and
may differ from the actual version.

This product contains software components that are licensed by
the copyright holders as Free Software or Open Source Software
under the GNU General Public License, versions 2 or 3, or the
GNU Lesser General Public License, versions 2.1 or 3.0.
You can obtain the source code of these software components
from us on a data carrier (CD-ROM, DVD or USB stick) if, within
three years of delivery of the product to the customer or as long
as we offer spare parts or support for the product, you send a
request to our customer service department at the following

1.5 Differentiation of the machine versions
The S-Series hot beverage vending machine is manufactured in
two versions and described in this manual. Please note the
differences.
S Series I8 (SI8) Instant
S Series E8 (SE8) Expresso
Coffee is made from soluble coffee.
Automatic machine with espresso brewer and
bean container. Coffee is freshly ground from
whole beans and freshly prepared using the
espresso method.

2Safety and security
This section gives an overview of all important safety aspects for
the protection of persons as well as for safe and trouble-free
operation. Further task-related warnings are contained in the
individual action sequences.
2.1 Intended use
The machine is used exclusively for the preparation and
dispensing of hot beverages in the commercial sector. The
machine is only suitable for indoor installation in dry and heated
rooms. Any other use is considered as not intended. The
manufacturer assumes no liability for consequences resulting
from improper use.
Intended use also includes compliance with all the information in
these instructions.
Any use beyond the intended use or other use is considered
misuse.
!WARNING
Danger in case of misuse!
Misuse of the machine can lead to dangerous situations.
Never operate the machine outdoors.
Never use the machine with a damaged housing or
power cable.
Never modify the machine on your own.
Never attempt to repair the machine yourself.
Claims of any kind due to damage resulting from improper use
are excluded.
2.2 Basic hazards
In the following section, residual risks are listed which can be
caused by the machine even when used as intended.
In order to reduce the risk of personal injury and material damage
and to avoid dangerous situations, please observe the safety
instructions given here and in the other sections of this manual.
2.2.1 Danger from electric current
If the machine or power cord is damaged, electric shock may
result in death.

Observe the following safety instructions to avoid hazards from
electric current:
Do not use a damaged power cord.
Never plug the mains plug into the socket when it is wet or
touch it with wet hands.
A damaged power cord may only be replaced by the
manufacturer, its technical service department or a similarly
qualified person.
Do not open any firmly screwed covers from the housing of
the machine.
Only use the machine if it is in perfect technical condition.
A defective machine may only be repaired by an authorised
workshop. Do not repair the machine yourself.
Do not make any changes to the machine, its components
or accessories.
Always switch off the machine at the main switch before
carrying out maintenance work.
Do not clean the machine with a water hose or high-
pressure cleaner.
2.2.2 Risk of burns and scalding
Escaping liquids and vapours can be very hot. Parts of the
machine also become very hot.
Observe the following safety instructions to avoid burns and
scalding:
Avoid skin contact with escaping liquids and vapours.
Do not touch any nozzles at the outlet during operation.

2.2.3 Health hazard
The vending machine dispenses food.
Observe the following safety instructions to avoid health hazards:
Clean the machine regularly.
Only use food-safe, approved agents for cleaning.
Do not process products that have not been agreed with the
manufacturer.
In addition to the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning work,
maintenance work should be carried out on the machine.
2.2.4 Risk of crushing
The brewing chamber moves during coffee preparation.
Observe the following safety instructions to avoid crushing:
Do not reach into the interior of the machine during
operation.
Do not reach into the brewing chamber or the brewing
chamber carriage during operation.
2.2.5 General safety
Observe the following safety instructions to avoid personal injury
and material damage:
During transport, installation, maintenance and repair of the
machine, the following regulations and guidelines, in their
latest version, in particular, must be observed: regulations
of the responsible power supply company, accident
prevention regulations (UVV), guidelines of the professional
association, trade regulations, EC guidelines, VDE
regulations, observance of the usual hygiene regulations,
country-specific regulations.
This machine is not intended to be used by persons
(including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental
abilities or for lack of experience and/or knowledge, unless
they are supervised by or have received instructions from a
person responsible for their safety on how to use the
machine.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not
play with the machine.
Only use original spare parts for repairs.
