The Global SST 09 ARF is in no way a primary trainer. If you have not flown an R/C airplane before, please
return this kit to the place of purchase before going any further. The SST 09 is designed for those pilots who are
already skilled at flying a basic trainer or sport airplane. Even though the SST 09 is small, it can be a very high
performance aircraft, depending upon which engine and radio accessories you use. These options are discussed
in further detail to help you make the right choice for your desired style of flying.
To make your modeling experience totally enjoyable, we recommend that you get experienced, knowledgable
help with assembly and during your first flights. Your local hobby shop has information about flying clubs in
your area whose membership includes qualified instructors. We also recommend that you contact the AMA at
the address below. They will be able to help you locate a flying field in your area also.

This instruction manual is designed to guide you through the entire assembly process of your new SST 09
ARF in the least amount of time possible. Along the way you'll learn how to properly assemble your new
airplaneand also learn many tipsthatwillhelp you in the future. We have listed someofourrecommendations
below. Please read through them before going any further.
üPlease read through each step before starting assembly. You should find the layout very complete
and simple. Our goal is to guide you through assembly without any of the headaches and hassles you
might expect.
üWhen you are ready to glue any parts together, test fit them first without using glue. This will ensure
you have the correct parts and that they fit together properly.
üThere are check boxes next to each step. After you complete a step, check off the box. This will help
you keep from losing your place.
üIf you come across this symbol , it means that this is an important point or an assembly hint.
üCover your work table with brown paper or a soft cloth, both to protect the table and to protect the
individual parts.
üKeep a couple of small bowls or jars handy to put the small parts in after you open the accessory bags.

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing the Global SST 09 ARF for your next airplane. The SST 09 ARF is
designed to be powered with either an .09 size engine, like the AP Engines Hornet, or a .15 size
engine, like the AP Engines .15 Yellowjacket. Performance is excellent using either engine. The
smaller engine will allow the SST to be flown slower and in a much smaller space. Using the larger
engine, the SST turns into a high performance sport plane. The airplane uses three channel control-
elevator, ailerons and throttle. Standard servos can be used in the fuselage, and a mini servo in the
wing. To make the airplane even lighter, micro servos can be used on all controls.
The SST 09 ARF is completely built up out of balsa and light ply. This really helps keep the weight
down, owing to its excellent performance. The airframe is then covered with lightweight polyester
covering material inanattractive colorscheme. Included in the box is a full compliment of hardware,
including prebent main landing gear wires, prebent tail skid, lightweight wheels, wheel collars, fuel
tank, pushrods, and all of the nuts and bolts.
We hope you enjoy final assembly and flying of your new SST 09 ARF as much as we have
enjoyed designing and building it for you. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free

below represents the parts that are required in a main section of the assembly process. Before you begin
assembly, group the parts like we show. This will ensure you have all of the parts before you begin assembly. It
will also help you become familiar with each part. The corresponding part number is listed first, then the

FOR YOUR INFORMATION The SST 09 can be set up a couple of different ways to suit your
particular flying needs. Set up stock using an .09 displacement engine and standard servos, the SST 09 is a
very docile flyer that is not too fast. Set up with a .15 displacement engine and micro servos and battery
pack will make the SST 09 a very fast and aerobatic flyer. Remember, the overall finished weight of the
airplane will be almost 4oz. lighter by using micro servos and a 270Mah battery pack. The lighter the
airplane is, the better it will fly. The SST 09 flies very well using the .09 and standard servos. It's an
extreme flyer using a .15 and micro servos. On page # 26 we have even included a section telling you how
to convert your SST 09 into electric! If you do decide to convert the SST 09 to electric, please read that
section before starting assembly of the airplane. Again, the electric conversion section can be found on
page # 26 along with a complete list of the extra items you'll need.
IMPORTANT The part numbers for the Cirrus
servos, On-Board Battery Indicator and battery
pack are for Hitec and JR radio systems. These
items are also available with different connectors
for use with Futaba and Airtronics radio systems.

PARTS REQUIRED
WING MOUNTING
INSTALLING THE HARDWOOD DOWELS
q1) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
covering from over the four predrilled holes in the
fuselage sides. Two holes are located in front of the
wingsaddle, 4-1/8” behind the firewall and3/8”down
from the top of the fuselage. Two holes are located
in back of the wing saddle, 12-1/2” behind the fire-
wall and 5/16” down from the top of the fuselage.
q2) Slide one 7mm x 110mm hardwood dowel
through the two predrilled holes in front of the wing
saddle and one dowel through the two predrilled
holes in back of the wing saddle. Center the two
dowels in the fuselage. Both ends of each dowel
should protrude from the fuselage sides equal
amounts. See photo # 1 below.

q3) With both wing dowels properly positioned,
apply a couple of drops of Kwik Bond Thin C/A to
the joint where each dowel exits the fuselage sides.
Allow the glue to fully cure before proceeding.
The thin C/A will wick into the joint, gluing
the dowels securely in place. Be careful not to
use too much C/A or it may run down the fuselage.
ALIGNING THE WING
q4) Using a ruler and a pen, locate the centerline
of the fuselage at the front of the wing saddle and
place a mark.
q5) Using a ruler and a pen, locate the centerline
of the fuselage at the back of the wing saddle and
place a mark. See photo # 2 at top right.

These two marks will help you align the wing
when you install it onto the fuselage. You may
wish to make these marks in permanent ink so you
can align the wing correctly each time you install it.
This will ensure the wing is aligned properly every
time you fly the airplane.
q6) Using a ruler and a pen, locate and mark the
centerline of the wing at both the leading edge and
the trailing edge. See photo # 3 below.

q8) Temporarily mount the wing to the fuselage
using one rubber band per side. To properly install
the rubber bands, hook one rubber band over one side
of the front wing hold down dowel. Carefully pull it
back over the wing, and under the rear hold down
dowel on the same side, then pull it forward across
the top of the wing and hook it around the front wing
hold down dowel on the same side.
When installing the rubber bands, be careful not
tocrushthetrailing edge of the wing. Also make
sure that the wing stays centered on the fuselage.

You may wish to make these marks in perma-
nent ink so you can align the wing correctly
each time you install it.
q7) Place the wing onto the wing saddle. Align
the two centerline marks on the wing with the two
centerline marks on the fuselage.

HORIZONTAL STABILIZER
INSTALLATION

ALIGNING THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER
q{1} Horizontal Stabilizer w/Elevator & Hinges

q1) Using a modeling knife, carefully remove
the covering from over the stabilizer mounting slot
in each fuselage side. The front of the slot is 6-3/4”
in front of the back edge of the fuselage and 3/8” up
from the bottom. The slot is about 5” long. See
photo # 4 below.

q2) Remove the elevator and hinges from the
horizontal stabilizer and set them aside for now.
q3) Using a ruler and a pen, locate the centerline
of the horizontal stabilizer, at the trailing edge, and
place a mark. See photo # 5 below.

q4) Using a ruler and a pen, measure out 3/8”
from each side of the centerline and place a mark.

q5) Slide the stabilizer into the mounting slot.
For now, push the leading edge of the stabilizer up
against the front of the slot and carefully align the
two marks at the trailing edge of the stabilizer with
the fuselage sides.
q6) While holding the trailing edge of the stabi-
lizer aligned with the fuselage sides, insert a T-pin
through the bottom of the fuselage and into the stabi-
lizer. This will keep the back of the stabilizer from
moving side-to-side. See photo # 7 below.

q7) With the wing still attached to the fuselage
and centered, remove both of the ailerons and hinges.
Set them aside for now.
q8) Align the stabilizer to the wing. Using a long
ruler, measure from each wing tip to each stabilizer
tip. Both distances should be equal. If they are not,
adjust the stabilizer, making sure the trailing edge
stays centered, until you are satisfied with the align-
ment. See figure # 1 below.

q9) When you are satisfied with the alignment,
use several pieces of masking tape to hold the stabi-
lizer firmly in place.
q10) Now check to ensure that the horizontal sta-
bilizer is level with the wing. When viewed from the
front, the horizontal stabilizer should be level with
the wing. If it is not level, remove the stabilizer and

use220 grit sandpaper,with asanding block,andsand
down the high side of the stabilizer mounting slot.
Remove small amounts at a time, checking your work
often, until the proper alignment is achieved. See
figure # 2 below.

MOUNTING THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER
q11) With the stabilizer held firmly in place and
properly aligned, use a pen and draw lines onto the
stabilizer, where it and the fuselage sides meet. Do
this on both the right and left sides, on the top and
bottom of the stabilizer.
q12) Remove the stabilizer from the fuselage.
Using the lines you just drew as a guide, carefully
remove the covering from between them using a
modeling knife. See photo # 8 below.

When cutting through the covering to remove
it, cut with only enough pressure to only cut
through the covering itself. Cutting into the balsa
may weaken the stabilizer.

q13) Slide each of the four hinges into the lead-
ing edge of the elevator. The hinges should be
centered within each slot. Do not glue them in place
at this time. See photo # 9 at top right.
Please follow the next few steps very closely.
They will lead you through the proper order
for gluing the stabilizer into place. If you don't
follow the order of these steps as they are listed
here, you will not be able to hinge the elevator
to the stabilizer.
q14) Carefully slide the elevator through the sta-
bilizer mounting slot, making sure that the hinges are
facing forward and that the colored trim is facing up.
Push the elevator joiner back into the slot as far as
possible and let is set there for now.
q15) Glue the horizontal stabilizer in place us-
ing Kwik Bond 30 Minute Epoxy. Because the
stabilizer has to slide in place through the fuselage,
we suggest you apply a liberal amount of epoxy to
only the gluing surface of the stabilizer. This will
prevent spreading epoxy over the entire length of
one half of the stabilizer when you slide it in place.
After applying the epoxy, slide the stabilizer into
place and realign it. Double check all of your mea-
surements before the epoxy cures. Wipe away any
excess epoxy using paper towels and rubbing alco-
hol and hold the stabilizer in place using pieces
masking tape.
q16) After the epoxy has cured, remove the
masking tape and use a small quantity of epoxy to
fill in any gaps that may exist that were not filled
previously.
HINGING THE ELEVATOR
q17) Carefully push the elevator and its hinges
into the precut hinge slots in the trailing edge of the
stabilizer. Adjust the elevator so the tips are even the
tips of the stabilizer.
q18) While holding the elevator tight against the
stabilizer, rotate the elevator down as far as it will
go. Apply six drops of Kwik Bond Thin C/A to the
exposed area of each hinge. Turn the fuselage over
and apply six drops of C/A to that side of each hinge.
Allow the C/A to cure for about ten minutes. Once
cured, the elevator may be stiff and difficult to move.
This is normal. Gently move it up and down about
five to ten times to free it up.

VERTICAL STABILIZER
INSTALLATION

ALIGNING THE VERTICAL STABILIZER
q{1} Vertical Stabilizer

q1) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
covering from over the stabilizer mounting slot in
the top of the fuselage. The front of the slot is located
4-3/4” in front of the back edge of the fuselage. The
slot is 2-7/8” long and 3/16” wide.
q2) Slide the tab in the bottom of the vertical
stabilizer into the slot in the top of the fuselage. Both
the front and the back edges of the stabilizer should
be centered over the top of the fuselage, and the trail-
ing edge of the stabilizer should be even the back
edge of the fuselage. The stabilizer should also be
pushed down firmly so there are no gaps present.
q3) While holding the vertical stabilizer firmly
in place, use a pen and draw an outline on top of the
fuselage, around the base of the stabilizer.
q4) Remove the stabilizer. Using a modeling
knife, carefully remove the covering from just inside
the outline you drew. See photo # 10 below.

q5) Set the stabilizer back into place and realign
it. Using a triangle, check to ensure that the vertical
stabilizer is aligned 90º to the horizontal stabilizer.
See figure # 3 below.

q6) While holding the vertical stabilizer firmly
in place, use a pen and draw a line on each side of it
where it meets the top of the fuselage.
q7) Remove the stabilizer. Using a modeling
knife, remove the covering from below the lines you
drew. See photo # 11 below.

MOUNTING THE VERTICAL STABILIZER
q8) Mix up a generous amount of Kwik Bond
30 Minute Epoxy. Apply a thin layer to the bottom
edge of the vertical stabilizer, to the sides of the
mounting tab, and to the top of the fuselage. Set the
stabilizer back into place and realign it. Double
check all of your measurements once more before
the epoxy cures. Hold the stabilizer in place with
masking tape and remove any excess epoxy using a
paper towel and rubbing alcohol. Allow the epoxy
to fully cure before proceeding.

TAIL SKID INSTALLATION
INSTALLING THE TAIL SKID
q{1} Prebent Tail Skid

q1) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
covering from over the precut tail skid slot in the
bottom of the fuselage. The front of the slot is 1-7/8”
in front of the back edge of the fuselage. The slot is
1-7/8” long and 3/32” wide.
q2) Test fit the tail skid into the slot. The 90º
bend in the wire fits into the predrilled hole in the
front of the slot.
q3) Remove the tail skid and use 220 grit to
roughen the gluing surface of the wire.
Roughening the smooth surface will help make
a stronger bond for the glue.

q4) Apply a generous layer of Kwik Bond Thick
C/A into the bottom of the slot and into the predrilled
hole. Set the tail skid back into place and realign it.
Push down firmly on the wire to ensure it is fully
seated, then apply a light layer of C/A over the wire.
Allow the glue to fully cure before proceeding. See
photo # 12 below.

q1) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
covering from over the precut landing gear slot in
the bottom of the fuselage. The slot is located 8-1/4”
back from the front of the fuselage. It is 3/16” wide
and 2-1/2” long.
q2) Insert the 90º bend of each landing gear wire
into the two predrilled holes in the landing gear slot.
See photo # 13 below.
q3) The two wires are held in place using two
nylon landing gear straps and four 3mm x 12mm

wood screws. Each nylon strap should be centered
over the wires and be spaced about 1/2” in from the
fuselage sides.
q4) Using the landinggear strapsasaguide,mark
the locations of the four 3mm x 12mm mounting
screws onto the fuselage using a pen.
q5) Remove the nylon straps. Using a 1/16” drill
bit, drill four 1/16” pilot holes through the hardwood
landing gear mounting block.
q6) Install the two nylon landing gear straps us-
ing four 3mm x 12mm wood screws. Tighten the
screws completely to secure the landing gear straps
and wires into place. See photo # 14 below.

INSTALLING THE WHEELS
q7) Thread two 3mmx 5mmmachinescrewsinto
the two 3mm wheel collars.
q8) Slide one wheel, followed by a wheel collar,
onto one landing gear axle.
q9) Push the wheel as far as it will go onto the
axle. Slide the wheel collar up against the wheel and
tighten the machine screw. Spin the wheel to make
sure it doesn't bind. If the wheel does bind, loosen
the machine screw and readjust the wheel collar. See
photo # 15 below.

q1) Using a modeling knife, cut the exhaust tube
to a length of 2” long. Slide one end of the tube over
the tip of the muffler exhaust pipe, until it is firmly
attached. See photo # 16 below.

q2) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
covering from over the predrilled exhaust tube hole
in the bottom of the fuselage. The hole is located
2-5/8” behind the front of the fuselage and centered
between the fuselage sides.
q3) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
covering from over the two precut mounting screw
access slots in the bottom of the fuselage. The slots
are located 1-3/8” behind the front of the fuselage
and are 1” long and 1/4” wide.
q4) Install the spinner backplate and a propeller
onto the engine. Tighten the prop nut securely to
hold everything securely in place.
q5) Set the engine onto the hardwood motor
mounting beams. Make sure that the muffler exhaust
pipe is pointing straight down and that the exhaust
extension tube slides through the hole in the bottom
of the fuselage.
q6) To properly align the engine, the outer edge

q7) When satisfied with the alignment, hold the
engine firmly in place and mark the locations of the
four mounting holes using a pencil.

q8) Remove the engine. Using a 1/8” drill bit,
drill four holes through the hardwood beams, at the
four locations marked. Be careful not to drill
through the bottom of the fuselage!
q9) Set the engine back into place and align it
with the four holes. Slide four 3mm flat washers
over each of the four 3mm x 20mm machine screws.
Install the four machine screws up through the pre-
cut slots in the bottom of the fuselage and though the
engine mounting lugs. Thread four 3mm hex nuts
onto the screws and tighten them securely to hold the
engine in place. See photo # 18 below.
MOUNTING THE ENGINE
INSTALLING THE SPINNER
q10) Slide the spinnerconeoverthe propeller and
into the backplate. Tighten the two wood screws to
secure the spinner cone into place.
The spinner cone should not touch any part of
the propeller. If it does, use a modeling knife
and carefully trim away the prop cutouts in the cone
until the cone does not touch the propeller.
of the spinner should be flush with the outer edge of
the fuselage. So the engine is at the proper depth,
there should be a 3/32” gap between the back edge of
the spinner backplate and the front edge of the fuse-
lage. See photo # 17 below.

INSTALLING THE THROTTLE PUSHROD
q11) Slide the 4mm x 200mm pushrod housing
through the predrilled hole in the firewall, through
the predrilled hole in the forward bulkhead, and into
theservo compartment. Leave about 1/4” ofthehous-
ing extending beyond the front of the firewall.
q12) To secure the housing into place, apply a
couple of drops of Kwik Bond Thin C/A to the push-
rod housing where it exits the firewall and where it
passes through the forward bulkhead.
q13) Notice one end of the 1.5mm x 330mm
pushrodwire has a Z-Bendpremadeinit and the other
end is plain. Slide the plain end of the wire into the
end of the pushrod housing at the firewall. Remove
thethrottle arm from the engine andattachtheZ-Bend
to the hole farthest out in the throttle arm. Reattach
the throttle arm to the engine and tighten it securely.

The shorter aluminum tube is used for the fuel
line pickup and the longer tube is used for the
vent/pressure line. The fuel line pickup goes to the
fuel nipple on the carburetor and the vent/pressure
line goes to the pressure tap on the muffler.
q1) Using 220 grit sandpaper carefully smooth
each end of the two tubes. This will prevent the fuel
line from being accidentally cut when it is installed.
q2) Push the two aluminum tubes through the
rubber stopper until 1/2” of each tube protrudes from
the front of the stopper. Slide the 20mm diameter
front plate over the tubes at the front of the stopper
and slide the 17mm diameter rear plate over the tubes
at the rear of the stopper. Insert the 3mm x 18mm
machine screw into the center hole in the front plate,
then screw it through the stopper and into the back
plate. Do not tighten the screw yet.
q3) Carefully bend the longer of the two tubes
up at a 45º angle, using the Magnum 1/8” tubing
bender. This tube is the vent tube. When the stopper
assembly is installed in the tank, the top of the vent
tube should rest just below the top of the tank.
q4) Using a modeling knife, cut the silicon fuel
tubing to a length of 1-1/2”. Slide the tubing, with
the weighted pickup attached to one end, onto the
fuel pickup tube. The fuel tubing should be pushed
up against the back edge of the rear plate. See
photo # 20 below.

q5) If there is any plastic flashing around the
fuel tank opening, remove it using a modeling knife,
making sure none falls into the tank.
q6) Carefully push the stopper assembly into the
fuel tank opening in the front of the fuel tank.
q7) With the stopper assembly in place, the
weighted pickup should move freely inside the tank
and the top of the vent tube should rest just below the
top of the tank.
If the tubes do not fit properly inside the tank,
remove the stopper assembly and adjust them
before proceeding.

q8) When satisfied with the alignment of the
stopper assembly, tighten the 3mm x 18mm machine
screw until the rubber stopper expands and seals the
fuel tank opening. Do not overtighten the screw.
This could cause the front of the tank to split. See
photo # 21 below.

FUEL TANK INSTALLATION
q9) Using a pair of scissors, cut a piece of Dubro
Foam Rubber to the dimension of 2” x 4”. Place the
foam rubber onto the fuselage floor, inside the fuel
tank compartment.
q10) Using a modeling knife, cut the length of
silicon fuel tubing into two equal pieces. Slide one
piece through each predrilled hole in the firewall and
into the servo compartment.
q11) Install the two lengths of silicon fuel tubing
onto the vent and fuel pickup tubes at the front of the
fuel tank. Use a pen to mark the other ends of the
tubing with a P for pressure and a C for carburetor.
This will remind you which one goes where.
q12) Pull on the two fuel lines while guiding the
fuel tank into position.
When installing the fuel tank, make sure the top
of the fuel tank (tall side) is facing the top of
the fuselage.
q13) When properly aligned, the fuel tank
should be centered between the fuselage sides and
pushed as far forward as possible without pinching
the fuel lines.
q14) To secure the fuel tank in position, cut
smaller pieces of Dubro Foam Rubber and wedge
them between the fuel tank and the fuselage sides.
Use enough pieces to keep the tank from moving.

q1) Temporarily install the two plywood servo
rails on top of the preinstalled triangle stock inside
the servo compartment. The rear rail should be even
with the back edge of the triangle stock and the front
rail should be spaced properly to fit the length of your
servos. See photo # 22 below.

q2) When satisfied with the alignment, use a
pen and mark the locations of the two rails onto
the triangle stock.
q3) Remove the rails and apply a generous
amount of Kwik Bond Thick C/A on top of the
triangle stock, only where the rails will be glued
into place.
q4) Carefully set the two rails back into place
and allow the glue to fully cure before proceeding.
INSTALLING THE FUSELAGE SERVOS
q5) Locate the two servos you intend to use for
the elevator and throttle controls. Install the rubber
grommets and brass collets onto each of the servos.
The brass collets should be installed with the flanges
towards the bottom of the servo mounting tabs. See
figure # 4 below.

q6) Position the servos onto the plywood servo
rails making sure you run the servo wires out to-
wards the front of the fuselage. Note the position
of each of the servo output shafts. They should face
the directions shown. Also note the locations of
the servos themselves. The elevator servo output
shaft should be 7/8” in from the outside edge of the
fuselage side. The throttle servo output shaft should
be 3/4” in from the outside edge of the fuselage.

q7) Using a 1/16” drill bit, drill pilot holes
through the servo rails for each of the mounting
screws. Install the servos using the mounting screws
provided with each servo. Tighten the screws firmly
to hold the servos in place.
Drilling pilot holes through the servo rails will
prevent them from splitting when you install
the screws.
INSTALLING THE AILERON SERVO PLATES
q8) Using a modeling knife, remove the cover-
ing from over the precut servo hole in the bottom of
the wing. The hole is located 3-1/2” in front of the
trailing edge and is 1-3/8” long and 11/16” wide.
q9) Fit the two plywood servo mounts onto the
bottom of the wing, using the aileron servo as a guide
to help find their location. The plates should be cen-
tered with the cutout and hold the servo firmly.
q10) When satisfied with the alignment, hold the
plates firmly in place and trace around them using a
pen. Remove the servo and the plates from the wing.
q11) Using a modeling knife, carefully remove
the covering from just inside the two outlines.
When cutting through the covering to remove
it, cut with only enough pressure to only cut
through the covering itself. Cutting into the balsa
may weaken the mounting area.
q12) Apply a generous amount of Kwik Bond
Thick C/A to the bottom of the plywood plates. Set
both plates back into place and realign them. Hold
them firmly in place until the glue fully cures. See
photo # 24 below.

INSTALLING THE AILERON SERVO
q13) Install the rubber grommets and brass col-
lets onto the aileron servo. The brass collets should
be installed with the flanges towards the bottom of
the servo mounting tabs. See figure # 5 below.

q14) Position the servo onto the plywood plates
making sure the servo is centered. Note the position
of the servo output shaft. It should face the leading
edge of the wing. See photo # 25 below.

q15) Using a 1/16” drill bit, drill pilot holes

screws. Install the servo using the mounting screws
provided with the servo. Tighten the screws firmly
to hold the servo in place.
Drilling pilot holes through the servo plates will
make it easier to install the mounting screws.
Be careful not to drill through the top of the wing.

q1) Locate a plastic servo arm that came with
your servo. Using wire cutters, remove all but one of
the arms.
q2) Install one adjustable servo connector
through the third hole out from the center of the servo
arm. You will have to enlarge the hole in the servo
arm using a 5/64” drill bit so the servo connector will
fit through. See figure # 6 below.

q3) Plug the throttle servo lead into your receiver
and turn on the radio system (please refer to your
radio system manual for complete instructions about
connecting and operating your radio system).
q4) Check to ensure that the throttle servo output
shaft is moving in the correct direction. When the
throttlestickis movedforward,fromidleto fullthrottle,
the output shaft should rotate counterclockwise.
q5) Slide the adjustable servo connector/servo
arm assembly over the plain end of the throttle push-
rod wire. Position the throttle stick and the throttle
trim at their lowest positions.
q6) Manually push the carburetor barrel fully
closed. Angle the servo arm about 45º back from
center and attach the servo arm to the output shaft.
The servo arm should be pointing toward the fuse-
lage side. With the carburetor barrel fully closed,
tighten the set screw in the adjustable servo connector
using the Allen Wrench provided.

q7) Cut off the excess pushrod wire using wire
cutters and install the servo arm retaining screw.
Tighten it securely. See photo # 26 below.

ADJUSTING THE THROTTLE LINKAGE
q8) When the throttle linkage is adjusted prop-
erly, the carburetorbarrelshould be fully closedwhen
the throttle stick and the throttle trim lever are at their
lowest positions. Moving the throttle trim up should
open the carburetor barrel about 25% - 30%. Mov-
ing the throttle stick all the way forward should open
the throttle barrel completely. All of these move-
ments should be done without any binding in the
linkage. Sometimes the servo will bind at either the
fully closed and/or fully open throttle positions. If
this happens, and your radio is equipped with digital
or manual end point adjustments, make those adjust-
mentsusing the transmitter (seeyourradioinstruction
manual for further details). If your radio does not
have this feature you can still adjust the linkage. For
more linkage travel, move the adjustable servo con-
nector to a hole farther out from the center of the
servo arm. For less travel, move the connector to a
hole closer to the center of the servo arm. Ideally,
you don't want the servo to bind while at idle or full
throttle. This would cause excessive strain on the
servo and would also cause excessive drain on the
battery pack.

right side of the elevator. The centerline of the con-
trol horn should be 5/8” out from the fuselage side,
at the hinge line. Position the control horn so the
clevis attachment holes are directly over the hinge
line. The base of the control horn should also be
angled about 1/16” toward the fuselage side. See
figure # 7 below.

q2) When satisfied with the alignment, use a
5/64” drill bit, and the control horn as a guide, and
drill the two mounting holes through the elevator.
q3) Mount the control horn to the elevator by in-
serting two 2mm x 15mm wood screws through the
control horn mounting base, through the elevator and
into the backplate. Tighten the screws, but do not
overtighten them. Becarefulnotto crush thewood.
INSTALLING THE PUSHROD
q4) Using a modeling knife, remove the cover-
ing from over the elevator pushrod exit hole in the
back of the fuselage. The hole is located on the
right side, 2-1/4” in front of the elevator hinge line
and 7/8” up from the top of the horizontal stabilizer.
q5) Locate a plastic servo arm that came with
your servo. Using wire cutters, remove all but one of
the arms.
q6) Using a 5/64” drill bit, enlarge the second
hole out from the center of the servo arm. Insert the
Z-bend in the 2mm x 545mm pushrod into the hole.
q7) Plug the elevator servo lead intoyour receiver
and turn onthe radio system. Center the elevator trim
lever on your transmitter.
q8) Slide the plain end of the 2mm x 545mm
pushrod wire into the nylon pushrod housing, from
insidetheservocompartment,untilthe servo arm lines
up with the servo output shaft.
q9) Attach the servo arm to the servo. The servo
arm should be centered on the servo and point to-
ward the middle of the fuselage. Install and securely
tightenthe servo arm retaining screwtoholdthe servo
arm in place. See photo # 27 below.

q10) Use a couple of pieces of masking tape to
hold the elevator centered.
q11) With the servo arm centered, use wire cut-
ters to carefully cut off the excess pushrod wire 3/16”
in front of the elevator control horn.
q12) Slide the adjustable clevis over the pushrod
wire and align the threaded hole with the outermost
hole in the control horn. Carefully thread the 2mm x
6mm machine screw into the outside of the clevis,
through the control horn, and into the other side of
the clevis. Tighten the machine screw securely to
secure the clevis to the control horn.
q13) Withthe elevator and elevator servo armstill
centered, thread two 2mm set screws into the side of
the clevis. Tighten both set screws firmly, using the
Allen Wrench provided, to hold the clevis securely
to the pushrod wire. See photo # 28 below.

q14) Remove the masking tape from the elevator
and double check that both the servo arm and the
elevator are still centered.

ADJUSTING THE ELEVATOR PUSHROD
q15) With your radio system plugged in and
turned on, check the elevator control surface direc-
tion and amount of deflection. Pull back on the
elevator control stick. The elevator should move up.
If it doesn't, move the servo reversing switch on your
transmitter. This will change the direction (refer to
your radio instructions for more information on this
function).
q16) Pull back completely on the elevator con-
trol stick. Using a ruler, measure the amount the
trailing edge of the elevator moves up. This mea-
surement should be 3/16”. See figure # 8 below.

q17) If the control surface deflection is more or
less than 3/16” it must be changed. If your radio is
equippedwithdigitalormanualendpointadjustments,
make those adjustments using the transmitter. If your
radio does not have this feature, you can adjust the
clevis and the servo arm. If the elevator is moving
morethan3/16”youcanmove the pushrod in one hole
toward the center of the servo arm. If the elevator is
moving less than 3/16” you can move the clevis one
hole closer to the base of the control horn. When
adjustedproperly, the elevator should move 3/16” both
up and down.
As a rule, if you move the clevis, at the control
surface, closer to the control surface, this will
increase the amount of control deflection. If you
move it farther away, it will decrease the amount of
deflection. If you move the pushrod, at the servo
arm, closer to the center of the arm, it will decrease
the amount of control deflection. If you move it far-
ther away from the center, it will increase the amount
of control deflection.

HINGING THE AILERONS
q1) Slide each of the three hinges into the lead-
ing edge of each aileron. The hinges should be
centered within each of the slots.
q2) With each of the hinges centered, apply 3-4
drops of Kwik Bond Thin C/A to the joint where the
hinges and the ailerons meet. Allow a few seconds
between drops for the C/A to wick into the hinges,
then turn the ailerons over and repeat this procedure
on the other side. Allow the C/A to dry for a few
minutes before proceeding.
q3) Using a pair of scissors, cut out a small piece
of waxed paper. Working with one wing half for
now, slide the waxed paper between the aileron
torque rod and the trailing edge of the wing. See
photo # 29 below.

The waxed paper will prevent any epoxy from
getting into the torque rod and gluing it to the
trailing edge of the wing.
q4) Using a modelingknife,carefully remove the
excess covering from over the predrilled hole and the
precut groove in the leading edge of the aileron.
q5) Mix up a small quantity of Kwik Bond 5
Minute Epoxy. Apply a thin layer of epoxy to the
aileron torque rod and use a toothpick to pack epoxy
into the predrilled hole and the precut groove.

q6) Slide the aileron and it's hinges into the pre-
cut hinge slots in the trailing edge of the wing,
making sure that the torque rod is firmly seated into
the leading edge of the aileron. Adjust the aileron
so the tip is even with the wing tip.
q7) With the aileron tight against the wing, ro-
tate the aileron down about 45º. Apply 3-4 drops of
Kwik Bond Thin C/A to the exposed area of each
hinge. Turn the wing over and repeat for the other
side of the hinges. Allow the C/A and epoxy to cure
for about 45 minutes. Once cured, the aileron may
be stiff and difficult to move. This is normal. Gently
move the aileron up and down about five to ten times
to free it up.
q8) Repeat steps # 3 - # 7 to install the second
aileron on the opposite wing half.
q9) Locate a large plastic servo arm that came
with your servo. Each arm should have a minimum
of six holes. Using wire cutters, remove all but two
of the arms. See figure # 9 below.

q10) Install one adjustable servo connector
throughthe fifth hole outfromthe center of bothsides
of the servo arm. You will have to enlarge the holes
in the servo arm using a 5/64” drill bit so the servo
connectors will fit through. See figure # 10 below.
q11) Two nylon adjustable control horns have
been partially threaded onto the aileron torque rods.
Carefully thread them into their final position. The
top of each control horn should be even with the top
of each control horn.

q13) Insert the Z-bend in the pushrod wires into
the predrilled holes in the adjustable connectors.
Install the wires so they are towards the inside of
the control horns. See photo # 30 below.

q14) Use a couple of pieces of masking tape to
hold both of the ailerons centered.
q15) Plug the aileronservo leadintoyourreceiver
and turn on the radio system. Center the aileron trim
lever on your transmitter.
q16) Slide the adjustable servo connectors/servo
arm over the two pushrod wires. Attach the servo
armonto the servo output shaft. Theservoarmshould
becentered on the servo andperpendiculartothe trail-
ing edge of the wing. When satisfied with the
alignment, install and tighten the two set screws, us-
ing the Allen Wrench provided, and cut off the excess
pushrod wires. Install the servo arm retaining screw
and tighten it securely. See photo # 31 below.

q12) Using wire cutters, remove the excess wire
from beyond the Z-bend in each 1.5mm x 100mm
pushrod wire. There should be about 3/32” of wire
