Foreword
Thank you for choosing the EPIC VICTORY S. The EPIC VICTORY S is a semi-scale model with rivets, metal plate joints, and is a
brand name product >Made in Germany<. The CFRP strut belts give the wings a stability that is unique among foam models The
efficient air supply unit lowers power consumption in flight by about 3%. The model has very good slow-flight and aerobatic
characteristics. The battery is easy to change thanks to battery compartment on the back of the fuselage and makes the model very
suitable for everyday use and easy to handle. A conscious decision was made to leave the impeller and motor out of the kit so that
you could design the plane to suit your individual taste using existing propulsion units and RC components. For propulsion, you can
use impellers whose size and performance are comparable to those recommended by us.

The materials can be re-used in accordance with their labelling. Through the re-use, material usage, or other forms of utilising old equipment, you make an important
contribution to environmental protection.
Normal and rechargeable batteries must be removed from the equipment and be disposed of separately at an appropriate collection point. Please ask your local government
about the responsible disposal location.

Warning and safety information
Caution!
Never reach into the running rotor and operate the impeller while holding it in your hand; this leads to
hand injuries. The impeller can easily get out of control due to the rotational power of the rotor.
Caution!
Never hold objects / foreign objects in the running rotor, and make sure that no objects / foreign objects
can get into the rotating rotor. If this happens, the sudden imbalance of the impeller can severely
damage the model. In the vicinity of persons, the flying parts can lead to the severest injuries.
Caution!
Never stand in front of the impeller. Improper assembly or unforeseen circumstances can cause the
rotor to separate from the motor shaft. If there are any unusual noises, stop the impeller.
Caution!
The impeller must be firmly attached and the access channel smooth. Do not aim the impeller at
persons or animals; never test the impeller while holding it in your hand. Never stand in front of the
impeller. Unforeseen circumstances can cause the rotor to separate from the motor shaft. In the vicinity
of persons, the flying parts can lead to the severest injuries.
Caution!
Do not disassemble the combination motor + rotor + shaft + spinner; otherwise the product can not
reach the technical index specified by the factory, or it can lead to injury.
Warning!
Operating the model under the influence of medication, alcohol, drugs, et cetera is forbidden. The
operator of the model must be in full possession of his or her physical and mental faculties.
Caution!
Before starting a model aircraft, you must inform yourself of the legal requirements, because a model
aircraft is an aircraft and is subject to the applicable laws. You must comply with all laws. Observe the
laws of the respective states/countries. Before you first attempt to fly the model, it is essential to
carefully read all the operating and assembly instructions. You alone are responsible for the safe
operation of your RC model aircraft. The model is suitable for persons 16 years and older; persons
under 16 years old should be permitted to build and operate this model only with instruction and
supervision by an adult who is aware of the situations and possible hazards associated with an RC
model aircraft. These operating instructions must be stored carefully and, if the model is passed on to
others, they must also be passed on to the next user. Your retailer will be happy to answer questions
regarding the safe operation of the RC aircraft model. When buying a radio remote control unit, make
sure that transmitter and receiver are suited for model aircraft, that they are approved by the German
postal and telecommunications authority, and that they have an FTZ inspection serial number.
Caution!
In the frequency ranges for radio remote controls, other radio systems and high-frequency equipment
are operated. Therefore, no protection can be provided against interference by such devices. Operation
of a radio-control device for model aircraft in the approved channels in the 35-MHz band is subject to
fees, meaning that the radio control device must be registered with the German Bundespost-Telekom
authorities. Additional information on this topic can be obtained from the local office of the
telecommunications authority or from a model shop.

Radio-controlled models are very demanding and dangerous objects and require that the user have
great expertise, skill, and a sense of responsibility.

Caution!
In legal terms, our models are classed as aircraft and as such are subject to legal regulations and
restrictions which must be observed. Our brochure “Modellflugrecht, Paragrafen and mehr” (Model
Aviation Law, Legal Requirements and more), Order No. 8034.02 contains a summary of all these
rules, and your local model shop should also have a copy which you can read. There are also
regulations concerning your radio control system that must be observed. You will find more information
on this subject in the operating instructions for your radio control system.
Warning!
Any deviation from the instructions may affect the function and operational safety of the impeller and
must be avoided under all circumstances. Only the parts contained in the kit and the original Graupner
accessories and replacement parts expressly recommended by us may be used; otherwise proper
functioning can not be guaranteed.
Warning!
You as operator of this model aircraft are responsible for safe operation and for the protection of people
and animals. Questions regarding the safe operation of RC model aircraft can be answered by your
retailer.
Warning!
Adhesives and paints contain materials which may be hazardous to health under certain
circumstances. You should therefore read and observe the notes and warnings supplied by the
manufacturers of these materials.
Warning!
If there are passers-by or spectators at your flying site, make sure that they are aware of the dangers
inherent in your activity before you start the motor, and insist that they keep a safe distance away (at
least 5 m) from the plane of the propeller. Always keep a safe distance from people and objects when
flying; never fly low over people’s heads, and never fly directly toward them!
Warning!
Models should only be flown in a temperature range of -5° to +35° C. More extreme temperatures could
lead to changes, for example, battery capacity, material characteristics, and faulty glued connections.
Caution!
All model fliers should take care to ensure that the public safety, especially that of people, animals, and
property, as well as orderly flying operations, are not endangered or disturbed.
Never operate your model aircraft close to high-tension overhead cables, industrial sites, residential
areas, public roads, squares, school playgrounds, public parks, or sports grounds, et cetera.
Caution!
Do not ignore warnings! They refer to materials and situations, which, if ignored, can - in extreme cases
- result in fatal injury or permanent damage.
Do not switch on the electric motor unless you are sure that there is nothing in the rotational plane of
the propeller. Do not try to stop the rotating propeller. Electric motors with the propeller attached should
only be run when firmly mounted.
Propellers and all rotating parts that are powered by a motor pose a constant risk of injury. Do not
touch them with any part of your body! For example, a propeller spinning at high speed can cut off a
finger!
Always keep well clear of the rotational plane of the propeller! You never know when some part may
come loose and fly off at high speed and with great energy, hitting you or a third party. Make sure that
no other object can come into contact with the rotating propeller.
Be careful with loose clothing, such as scarves, loose shirts, et cetera: They can be sucked in by the
propeller stream or rotor and can get in the way of the propeller or impeller itself.
Caution!
Every time you intend to operate your model, check carefully to ensure that it and everything attached
to it (for example, propellers, drive mechanism, RC parts, et cetera) are securely attached and
undamaged. If you find a fault, do not fly the model until you have corrected it.

Caution!
Always make sure that your frequency is vacant. Do not switch on until you are sure! Radio
interference caused by unknown sources can occur at any time without warning. Your model will then
be uncontrollable and completely unpredictable. Never leave your radio control system unattended, as
another person might pick it up and try to use it.
Caution!
Before each flight, check that all functions on the model aircraft are working correctly, and that the radio
control system is in good order and operating at full range.
Note that the motor control function on the transmitter must always be moved to the OFF position
before start-up. To keep the electric motor from starting unexpectedly, always switch the transmitter on
first, and only then the receiving system. Likewise, always switch the receiving system off first and only
then the transmitter.
Check that the control surfaces follow the movement of the transmitter joysticks.
Valid third-party insurance must be obtained before you operate any model aircraft.
To ensure proper operation of your RC system, make sure that the batteries are kept fully charged.
Never use batteries which are hot, faulty or damaged. At all times heed the instructions provided by the
battery manufacturer.
Caution!
You should always be aware of the model’s position and attitude throughout each flight, so that you can
execute control and avoidance manoeuvres. If you detect a control problem or interference during a
flight, immediately land the model for the sake of safety. Models must always give way to full-size
aircraft. Take-off and landing strips should be free of people and other obstacles.
Caution!
The model's propulsion system must never be switched on while the model is lying on the ground or
when there is a possibility of foreign objects being sucked in to the air intake. This can cause
irreparable damage to the impeller.
Caution!
These notes are intended only to make you aware of the many dangers and
hazards that can arise if you work carelessly or irresponsibly. If you take
reasonable care, model flying is a highly creative, instructive, and relaxing
pastime.
Guarantee requirements
Caution!
Always use suitable connectors that are protected against incorrect polarity. All electrical lines,
connectors, and the drive battery, when you assemble them yourself, must be insulated against short
circuits. Never combine, for example, different metal and gold contacts, because safe functioning can
not be guaranteed in this case. When using switches and controllers with receiver power supply units,
only use connectors with Graupner gold contacts. Take care to avoid short-circuits and reversed
polarity. The high energy of the LiPo batteries involves a risk of fire and explosion.
A radio-controlled model aircraft can only work properly and fulfil your expectations if it is built with the
greatest of care and in accordance with the assembly instructions. To avoid injuring people and
damaging property, it is essential to be careful and thoughtful when operating your model. Nobody
would climb into a full-size aircraft and attempt to fly it without undergoing training beforehand. Model
flying also requires proper training.
As manufacturers, however, we are not in a position to influence the way you build and operate your
RC model aircraft. We therefore hereby expressly point out the hazards and reject any liability.
We suggest that you ask an experienced model flyer for help, or join a model club or model flight
training school. Your local model shop and the specialist magazines are excellent sources of
information. It is always best to join a club and fly at the approved model flying site.

Content of the manufacturer's declaration:
If material defects or manufacturing faults should arise in a product distributed by us in the Federal
Republic of Germany and purchased by a consumer (§ 13 BGB), we, Graupner GmbH & Co. KG,
Kirchheim/Teck, Germany, acknowledge the obligation to correct those defects within the limitations
described below.
The consumer is not entitled to make claims under this manufacturer’s declaration if the failure in the
usability of the product is due to natural wear, improper use (including incorrect installation), or external
influences.
This manufacturer’s declaration does not affect the consumer’s legal or contractual rights regarding
defects arising from the purchase contract between the consumer and the vendor (dealer).
Extent of the guarantee
If a claim is made under guarantee, we undertake at our discretion to repair or replace the defective
goods. We will not consider further claims, especially for reimbursement of costs relating to the defect
(such as installation / removal costs) and compensation for consequent damages unless they are allowed
by statute. This does not affect claims based on legal regulations, especially according to product liability
law.
Guarantee requirements
The purchaser is required to make the guarantee claim in writing and must enclose original proof of
purchase (such as invoice, receipt, delivery note) and this guarantee card. The defective goods must be
sent to us at the purchaser's own cost, using the address stated above:

The purchaser should state the material defect or manufacturing fault or the symptoms of the fault in as
accurate a manner as possible so that we can check whether our guarantee obligation is applicable.
The goods are transported from the consumer to us and from us to the consumer at the risk of the
consumer.
Duration of validity
This declaration only applies to claims made to us during the claim period as stated in this declaration.
The claim period is 24 months from the date of purchase of the product by the consumer from a dealer in
the Federal Republic of Germany (date of purchase). If a defect arises after the end of the claim period,
or if the evidence or documents required according to this declaration in order to make the claim valid are
not presented until after this period, then the consumer forfeits any rights or claims from this declaration.
Limitation by lapse of time
If we do not acknowledge the validity of a claim that is properly made under this declaration within the
claim period, all claims based on this declaration expire after six months from the time of claim, but not
before the end of the claim period.
Applicable law
This declaration, and the claims, rights and obligations arising from it, are based exclusively on the
applicable German Law, without the norms of international private law, and excluding UN retail law.

Centre of gravity
The centre of gravity is located 70 mm aft of the leading edge of the fuselage opening
for the wing, which corresponds to the trailing edge of the CRP strut.
Rudder deflections
The elevator trim must be trimmed upward about 1 mm when the centre of gravity is properly adjusted.
It can be that a free linear mixer must be mixed from the gas channel to the elevator, so that the
elevator deflects upward 1 mm at full throttle.
This is necessary, because the intake channel of the model is located underneath, and the fuselage is
pulled downward when air is taken in.
These settings must be done separately for each model; they are only guidelines and depend on the
centre of gravity.

Assembly instructions
The sequence of the assembly steps is designed to optimise the time needed for assembly. The
sections and steps of the assembly instructions must be followed.
Tailplane assembly
1. Start with the tailplane. First cut a 240-mm piece off one of the two 6x1x1000-mm
CRP strut belts provided. The rest of the section is needed for the wing strut. Use
a saw or wire cutters to make the cut. After cutting, clean the cut edge with a
sanding block.
2. Put fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821 in the cut-out for the strut in the elevator.
Press the strut into the cut-out until it disappears in the tailplane flush with the
outer surface.
Tip!
To do so, press the tailplane uniformly against the strut and the edge of your workbench. This ensures
that the tailplane will be straight.

3. Now attach the elevator servos to the servo arms contained in the servo package
as shown in the illustrations. To the servo cables, attach an extension cable
Order No. 3935.32 to extend them.
Make sure that the servo arm is installed at zero servo position. To do so, briefly start up the receiver
unit.

4. The servos must be glued in the cut-out provided in the tailplane using fast-
setting glue, Order No. 5821.
Caution!
Make sure that none of the fast-setting glue gets into the servos. After the glue has set, check the
functioning of the servos. After the tailplane has been glued to the fuselage, it will no longer be
possible to exchange the servos without great effort and damage to the foam parts.
Tip!
Before you glue in the servos, spray them with activator spray, Order No. 953.150, to reduce the risk
that the fast-setting glue will run into the housing before it sets; making the servos unusable.
5. Remove 2 of the 5 control horns from the extruded parts tree included in the kit.
Attach the linkages to the outer drill hole of the control horns. The linkage for the
servo arm is inserted in the 2nd drill hole from the outside. Now use fast-setting
glue, Order No. 5821 to glue the control horns to the rudder, precisely covering
the cut-outs.
Caution!
Make sure no glue runs into the foamed hinge. Otherwise, it can get brittle and crumbly, crack, and no
longer provide proper functioning.

6. After completing the tailplane, it can be set aside temporarily while you start the
assembly of the fuselage.
Fuselage assembly
Caution!
Here, you need to decide whether the model is to be equipped with a retractable undercarriage,
because it will not be possible to install it after the fact - or it will be very difficult. If you have decided on
a retractable undercarriage, it must be installed in the fuselage as the first thing. In addition, an 8-
channel GR 16 receiver, Order No. 33508 is needed, because the undercarriage and the bow landing
gear servo each need a separate channel. The instructions for installing the retractable undercarriage
in the fuselage can be found starting on page 39 of the instructions.
Caution!
The undercarriage may be used only on asphalt landing strips, because, if you start and land on grass,
it can happen that foreign objects will be drawn into the air intake located on the underside and
damage the impeller. Make sure that no foreign objects that can be sucked in are located on the
asphalt landing strip.
Caution!
The complete assembly of the components in the fuselage is done in the right half of the fuselage.

Rudder servo installation
1. Use a knife to cut out the opening in the fuselage for the rudder servo arm. This
opening is covered by a thin skin of foam that is very easy to remove. The rudder
linkages are attached only after the decals have been affixed, because the decal
runs over the rudder and must be cut free for the rudder control horn.
2. As described for the installation of the elevator servo, attach the servo arm to the
servo and glue it into the opening provided in the vertical stabiliser.
Caution!
Make sure that none of the fast-setting glue gets into the servos. After the glue has set, check the
functioning of the servos. After the tailplane has been glued to the fuselage, it will no longer be
possible to exchange the servos without great effort and damage to the foam parts.
Tip!
Before you glue in the servos, spray them with activator spray, Order No. 953.150, to reduce the risk
that the fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, will run into the housing before it sets and make the servo
unusable.

3. The cable of the rudder servo is extended with an extension cable, Order No.
3935.18, and secured in the cable compartment at 2 points using fast-setting
glue, Order No. 5821, to keep it from slipping.
Caution!
The air intake on the top of the fuselage of this aircraft that is designed to carry people is too small to
serve as the air intake for the model and is just a dummy. In the model, the receiver is positioned here,
and all cables of the servos and the controller should run out through this opening.
Impeller assembly
1. Now install the impeller and the motor as described in the instructions for the
impeller. For installation in the model, the cables of the motor and those of the
battery connection cable of the controller have to be extended. To extend the
battery connection cable, extension cable Order No. 2969.VL can be used,
which is simply stuck onto the battery cable of the controller. To extend the motor
cable, use Order No. 2894.14. It has to be soldered to the motor cables. Cut the
cable to length and solder it on as shown in the illustrations.
Caution!
Before you install the motor in the impeller, check whether the motor turns in the right direction. Mark
the cables so that, when you connect the controller, it is possible to connect them in the right order
again. To do so, briefly start up the receiver unit.
Caution!
The lengths of the cables on the motor and controller should be observed, or it may not be possible to
position the controller in the cut-out provided in the air intake.

2. The impeller is now installed in the fuselage and secured with a drop of fast-
setting glue, Order No. 5821, in the opening provided.
Caution!
Really use just a drop to secure the impeller against slippage, because the position of the impeller has
been designed so that it can be uninstalled again via the opening in the fuselage above the wing in
case of a defect.
3. Secure the controller in the cut-out in the air intake using a bit of fast-setting glue,
Order No. 5821. Run the connecting cable for the receiver in the cable
compartment and out through the dummy air intake. Run the connecting cable
forward into the battery compartment.
Caution!
Make sure that the controller is placed at a 90° angle to the centre of the fuselage and that the heat
sink of the controller is flush with the air channel. When the controller is installed in this position, there
is enough space behind the controller for additional cables, for example for the landing gear.

Wing screw mount assembly
1. Now break the wing screw mount off the extruded parts tree. Glue the two parts
together using fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821. To do so, put two small drops of
fast-setting glue only on the outer area of one of the two parts as shown in the
illustrations. The two parts click together with barbed hooks and are then
connected inseparably.
Caution!
Make sure that no glue gets onto the thread, or you will need a thread cutter to loosen it again.
2. After gluing the parts together, glue the screw mount into the opening provided in
the fuselage using fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821.
Caution!
Make sure that you glue the screw mount into the opening in the fuselage with the nose pointing in the
right direction, or the fuselage halves will not be flush when you try to glue them together. Proceed as
shown in the illustrations.

Battery compartment cover assembly
1. Break the mounts for the battery compartment cover off the extruded parts tree
and glue them into the cut-outs provided with fast-setting glue. Glue the clips with
the opening pointing toward the back of the fuselage.
Caution!
Make sure that no glue gets onto the clips, or proper functioning can not be guaranteed.
Tip!
Before you glue in the clips, spray them with activator spray, Order No. 953.150, to reduce the risk that
the fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, will run into the clips before it sets and make them unusable.
Apply a thin bead of fast-setting glue to the gluing surface of the clips and then press the clips into the
cut-out.
2. From the extruded parts tree, break off the retaining bolts, left and right, and glue
them into the battery compartment cover as shown in the illustrations. Later, after
the fuselage has been glued together, the cover can simply be pushed into the
battery compartment from above and will click into place in the clips with just light
pressure.
Caution!
Glue the retaining bolts into place with the flattened side down. Not until now do you apply fast-setting
glue to the foam part and spray the back side of the retaining bolt with activator spray.

Preliminary balancing of the centre of gravity.
1. Since the look and shape of the model is supposed to be as similar as possible
to the original, and since the service factor has been designed as simply as
possible for you so that you as customer can also use existing impellers or a
retractable undercarriage, some compromises had to be made in regard to the
centre of gravity and the placement of the individual components. For this
purpose, the kit contains trim weights that can be glued in the vertical stabiliser;
the number of trim weights can vary in accordance with the components used;
integrating from none to a maximum of 2 weights. The centre of gravity of the
fuselage with installed RC components, propulsion unit, and drive battery without
the tailplane is 68 mm from the leading edge of the wing opening on the
underside of the fuselage. The weights can be positioned in the cut-outs provided
and, using fast-setting glue, Order No. 5821, can be fixed in place.
2. To balance the aircraft, place the left half of the fuselage on the right and attach
them using two short strips of tape only on the underside and top of the fuselage
with some crepe tape. Mark the centre of gravity in the opening of the fuselage
and adjust balance of the centre of gravity on your fingertips. If you can not
achieve the proper centre of gravity by shifting the position of the battery, spread
the rudder fins slightly and place the trim weight into the round opening of the
vertical stabiliser.
3. Inserting the drive battery and closing the battery compartment.

Gluing together the halves of the fuselage
1. Now place the tailplane under the fuselage as shown in the illustrations. Run the
cable in the cable compartment and let it peek out of the dummy air intake.
Tip!
Use strips of crepe tape over the cable compartment to keep the cables from falling out.
2. Now connect all the cables to the receiver as described in the instructions for
your transmitter, and run the extension cables, Order No. 3935.32, which are for
the aileron servers, behind the impeller through the cable compartment.
Caution!
When using a GR-12 HoTT receiver, the second elevator servo is connected to channel 6 and is then
either set to channel 8 in the transmitter using the servo output menu, or channel 6 is mapped to
channel 8 in the receiver using the telemetry function. In this way, the mixer in the transmitter can
again work with the 2 elevator servos.
