1Introduction
These operating instructions are an integral part of the WebPanel device series WP-284-x
(hereinafter referred to as device, devices or WebPanel).
The operating instructions must be read, understood, and applied by all persons responsible
for installing the devices.
In addition to the operating instructions, generally applicable, statutory, and other binding
regulations on accident prevention and environmental protection in the country of use
must be observed.
1.1 Means of presentation
As a note and as a direct warning of dangers, text passages in these operating instructions
that require special attention are marked as follows:

1.2 Symbols used in the instructions
In warnings, special dangers are additionally marked as follows:
Danger to life due to electric current
This symbol warns of the danger to life from electric current.
General dangers
This symbol warns of general dangers that can occur during all phases
of the device's life.
ESD protection measures
This symbol warns of destruction due to electrostatic discharges on
electronic components if ESD protective measures are not observed.
1.3 Warranty and liability
The obligations agreed in the delivery contract, the general terms and conditions, as well as
the delivery conditions of the device(s) and the statutory regulations, valid at the time the
contract is concluded, shall apply.
All information and notes in these operating instructions have been compiled taking into
account the applicable standards and regulations, the state of the art and our many years of
knowledge and experience.
Warranty and liability claim for personal injury and damage to property are excluded if they
are attributable to one or more of the following causes:
‒Defects caused by improper use or improper handling of the devices
‒Consequential damage caused by failure or malfunction of the device(s)
‒Non-observance of the operating instructions
‒Use of unqualified or untrained personnel

►Read the operating instructions thoroughly before installing and connecting the devices.
►In addition to the operating instructions, also observe the existing national/regional
work safety and accident prevention regulations.
2.1 Intended use
The devices are designed for use in industrial and commercial applications.
The operational safety of the devices is only guaranteed if they are used as intended.
The devices are designed exclusively for
‒indoor use,
‒installation in higher-level machines/systems,
‒the visualization of control processes in machines/systems.
These devices are equipment of protection class III and may only be supplied with safety
extra-low voltage (SELV/PELV).
The devices are not intended for any use other than that listed here; this is considered
improper use.
Intended use also includes
‒observance of the operating instructions,
‒compliance with the operating conditions and technical specifications.
2.1.1 Structural changes to the devices
Structural changes (extensions and conversions) mean that warranty and liability claim for
personal injury and property damage are excluded.
►Replace devices that are not in perfect condition immediately.
Parts and components that are not supplied by Grossenbacher Systeme AG are not
approved for use on the devices.
2.1.2 Foreseeable misuse
Any use of the devices that goes beyond the intended use and/or any other use may result
in damage to the devices.
In particular:
‒The devices must not be switched on when dew is present. After a change of location
from cold to warm, the temperature of the devices must be allowed to equalize before
commissioning.
‒No safety-relevant functions - in terms of personal, machine and system protection - may
be implemented via the devices.

2.2 Requirements for personnel
The devices may only be installed, connected, commissioned, and repaired by technically
qualified personnel.

Technically qualified staff is
‒as project planning personnel, familiar with the safety concepts of automation
technology.

‒has been instructed as operating personnel in the use of automation technology
equipment and has knowledge of how to operate the devices.

‒are qualified to carry out repairs on such equipment as commissioning and service
personnel, as a result of competent training in automation technology.

‒are qualified to commission circuits and devices/systems in accordance with safety
engineering standards.
Obligation of the staff
All persons responsible for installation are obliged to observe the basic regulations on work
safety and accident prevention and to read the safety instructions and warnings in these
operating instructions.

3Description
The WebPanel device series WP-284-x is based on a powerful and energy-efficient RISC
processors (Arm Cortex-A) and is used in the function of a web browser (web panel) for
display and operation (HMI) in industrial and commercial environments.

10.1-inch version as an example. The structure of the 7.0-inch and 15.6-inch versions is
