of experience in the area of water treatment, we provide custom-
ised solutions for all kind of processes.
All Grünbeck systems and devices are made of high-quality mate-
rials. This ensures reliable operation over many years, provided
you treat your water treatment system with the required care. This
operation manual assists you with important information. There-
fore, please read the entire operation manual carefully before in-
stalling, operating or maintaining the system.
Customer satisfaction is our prime objective. And providing cus-
tomers with qualified advice is crucial. If you have any questions
concerning this system, possible extensions or water and waste
water treatment in general, our field staff, as well as the experts at
our headquarters in Hoechstaedt, are available to help you.

This operation manual is intended for the owners/operating
companies of our systems. It is divided into several chapters
(with a letter assigned to each of them) which are listed in the
“Table of contents” on page 1 in alphabetical order. In order to
find the specific information you are looking for, check for the
corresponding chapter on page 1.
The headers and page numbers with chapter information make
it easier to find your way around in the manual.

3. | General safety information
3.1 Symbols and notes
Important information in this operation manual is characterised by
symbols. Please pay particular attention to this information to en-
sure the hazard-free, safe and efficient handling of the system.
Danger! Failure to adhere to this information will cause serious or
life-threatening injuries, extreme damage to property or inadmissi-
ble contamination of the drinking water.
Warning! Failure to adhere to this information may cause injuries,
damage to property or contamination of the drinking water.
Caution! Failure to adhere to this information may result in damage
to the system or other objects.

Note: This symbol characterises information and tips that make
your work easier.
Tasks with this symbol must only be performed by Grünbeck's tech-
nical service/authorised service company or by persons expressly
authorised by Grünbeck.
Tasks with this symbol must only be performed by trained and quali-
fied electrical experts according to the VDE guidelines or according
to the guidelines of a similar local institution.
Tasks with this symbol must only be performed by water supply
companies or approved installation companies. In Germany, the in-
stallation company must be registered in an installation directory of
a water company as per §12(2) AVBWasserV (German Ordinance
on General Conditions for the Supply of Water).
3.2 Operating personnel
Only persons who have read and understood this operation manual
are permitted to work with our systems and devices. The safety in-
formation in particular is to be strictly adhered to.
3.3 Intended use
The system must only be used for the purpose outlined in the prod-
uct description (chapter C). The instructions in this operation man-
ual as well as the applicable local guidelines concerning drinking
water protection, accident prevention and occupational safety must
be adhered to. In addition, intended use also implies that the sys-
tem must only be operated when it is in proper working order. Any
malfunctions must be repaired at once.

3.4 Protection from
water damage
Warning! In order to properly protect the installation site from
water damage:
1. an appropriate floor drain must be available or
2. a safety device (refer to chapter C Accessories) must be in-
stalled.
Warning! Floor drains that discharge to a lifting system do not
work in case of a power failure.
3.5 Indication of
specific dangers
Danger due to electrical energy! →Do not touch electrical parts
with wet hands! Pull the mains plug before starting work on
electrical parts of the system! Have qualified specialists re-
place damaged cables immediately.
Danger due to mechanical energy! System parts may be sub-
ject to overpressure. Risk of injuries and damage to property
due to escaping water and unexpected movement of system
parts. →Check pressure pipes regularly. Depressurise the
system before starting repair or maintenance work on the sys-
tem.
Hazardous to health due to contaminated drinking water! →
The system must only be installed by a specialist company.
Strictly adhere to the operation manual! Ensure that there is
sufficient flow. Adhere to the pertinent guidelines when starting
up the system after extended periods of standstill. Perform in-
spections and maintenance at the intervals specified!

Note: By concluding a maintenance contract, you ensure that
all of the required tasks are performed on time. You can per-
form the interim inspections yourself.

4. | Transport and storage
Caution! The systems and devices can be damaged by frost
or high temperatures. In order to prevent damage of this kind:
Protect from frost during shipping and storage! Do not install or
store the system next to objects which radiate a lot of heat.
The system must only be transported and stored in its original
packing. Make sure that it is handled with care and placed the
right side up (as indicated on the packing).
5. | Disposal
Obey the applicable national regulations.
5.1 Packaging
Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally sound manner.
5.2 Product
If this symbol (crossed out wheelie bin) is on the product, this
product is subject to the European Directive 2012/19/EU. This
means that this product or the electrical and electronic compo-
nents must not be disposed of as household waste.
Dispose of electrical and electronic products or components in
an environmentally sound manner.

For information on collection points for your product contact your
municipality, the public waste management authority, an author-
ised body for the disposal of electrical and electronic products or
your waste disposal service.

B Basic information (safety devices)
1 | Laws, regulations, standards
In the interest of good health, rules cannot be ignored when it
comes to handling drinking water. This operation manual takes
into consideration the current regulations and stipulates infor-
mation that you will need for the safe operation of your system
separation device.
Among other things, the regulations stipulate that
•only approved specialist companies are permitted to make
major modifications to water supply facilities
•and that checks, inspections and maintenance on installed
devices are to be performed at regular intervals.
2 | Protection of drinking water
Drinking water still constitutes the most important food source
and cannot be substituted by anything else. Water and drinking
water is also irreplaceable in the commercial and industrial sec-
tor.
The protection of drinking water is assigned to the parties di-
rectly involved, such as local water works, system builders (in-
stallers) and owners/operators/operating companies who are
thus obligated to comply with the statutory and technical regula-
tions.
Only an unrestrained, "free outlet" offers maximum security
against the entry of non-drinking water, foreign and harmful sub-
stances into the drinking water by backflow, back pressure and
back siphonage. This "free outlet" can be of different designs
(AA, AB, AD, ...). In case of lower risk potentials, however, other
designs may also be used. Which designs of safety devices may
be used for certain applications and under which conditions is
stipulated in the currently applicable standards (presently, DIN
EN 1717 and DIN 1988, part 4). As we cannot adequately com-
ment on this comprehensive issue at this point, we refer to the
indicated and/or currently applicable standards.
In order to be able to properly select the safety devices which
differ in function and efficiency, the impairments are divided into
five liquid categories or hazard classes in the the standards
(presently DIN EN 1717 and DIN 1988, part 4). In case several
substances or micro-organisms endanger the drinking water at
the same time, the most highest hazard class occurring deter-
mines the selection of the admissible safety device. Only safety
device with proven qualification (e.g. such as a DIN-DVGW or
DVGW-test mark) must be used.

3 | Classification of hazard classes
Classification of the liquids that come or could come into contact
with the drinking water into liquid categories or hazard classes.
(excerpt of the definition according to EN 1717 5.2)
In case of standard use, the liquids that are or could come in
contact with the drinking water are divided into 5 categories.
They are specified below.
In cases where either insignificant concentrations or considera-
ble amounts of substances occur, we recommend redefining the
safety measures.
Category 1
Water for human consumption that is withdrawn directly from a
drinking water installation.
Category 2
Liquid that does not represent a risk to human health. Liquids
that are suitable for human consumption – including water origi-
nating from a drinking water installation – that may exhibit modi-
fications with regard to taste, smell, colour or temperature (heat-
ing up or cooling down).
Category 3
Liquids that represent a health risk to human beings due to the
presence of one or several less poisonous substances 1).
Category 4
Liquids that represent a health risk to human beings due to the
presence of one or several poisonous or highly poisonous sub-
stances or one or several radioactive, mutagenic or carcinogenic
substances.
Category 5
Liquids that represent a health risk to human beings due to the
presence of microbial or viral pathogens of communicable dis-
eases.

as LD50 = 200 mg/kg body weight according to EU document
93121 EEC dated April 27, 1993.

Euro system separation device GENO-G5 as compact system,
ready for connection, with aluminium profile rack and adjustable
feet made of rubber.
Unrestrained, free outlet, EN 13077, Family A, Type B, DN 20
consisting of supply tank with make-up water feed, overflow and
draining valve with waste water discharge conforming to stand-
ards. Dirt-proof supply tank (as there are no orifices at the top or
side)
Pressure booster system consisting of pressure controller with
frequency-controlled pump, dry-run protection, fault signal out-
put, non-return valve, pressure gauge, pressure sensor, flow re-

Intended use
The Euro system separation device GENO-G5 is a safety device
to protect the drinking water network from liquids up to and in-
cluding hazard class 5, according to DIN EN 1717 and DIN
1988, part 4. Complying with these standards, the system offers
the highest class of protection and reliably prevents backflow,
back pressure and back siphonage of modified drinking water
into the drinking water network. The Euro system separation de-
vice GENO-G5 is designed exclusively for use in industrial and
commercial applications.
The system is designed for "indirect connection", consisting of a
safety device "Free outlet, DIN EN 13077, Family A, Type B,
DN 20" and a pressure booster system with frequency-controlled
pressure controller. The system is particularly suited for use in
the dental sector for supplying dental treatment units. To com-
plement the system, we recommend an optional flushing device
(please refer to accessories). For easy retrofitting, the connec-
tions and the waste water discharge are already integrated in the
system.
In order to decouple the system inlet and outlet from the pipe
network, we recommend using the connection kit for the GENO-
G5 as flexible connections (refer to accessories). For automatic
disinfection, we recommend installing a dosing system GENO-
DOS type DM-B downstream.

4 | Application limits
The application limits are defined by the intended use (refer to
chapter A-3) and the Technical specifications (table C-1).
The system must only be operated if all components are in-
stalled properly. Safety equipment must NEVER be removed,
bridged or otherwise tampered with.
Intended use also implies that the information contained in this
operation manual and all safety guidelines applying at the instal-
lation site be obeyed. In addition, the maintenance and inspec-
tion intervals must be obeyed.

Via a special float valve with "Free outlet", the water flows into
the supply tank. The volume-proportional make-up water feed
with flow restriction to a large extent prevents the entry of air into
the water. The supply tank is dirt-proof, as it does not feature
any orifices at the top or on the side.
The pressure booster system installed downstream is frequency-
controlled and keeps the set pressure constant to a large extent.
In addition, the diaphragm expansion tank moderates pressure
fluctuations in case of major changes in the flow rate and re-
duces the switching frequency in case only small amounts are
withdrawn. The float switch protects the pump from running dry.
The flow restriction on the outlet side prevents the withdrawal
volume from exceeding the make-up water volume and thus pre-
vents supply interruptions due to the dry-run protection respond-
ing.
LEDs at the pump controller inform on voltage supply, operating
mode and alarm status. Furthermore, a voltage-free fault signal
output (NCC) is available.
When the power supply is switched on, the optional flushing de-
vice flushes the stagnating water into the drain. The duration of
the flushing process can be set in a range of 1 - 100 seconds at
the potentiometer.
Thanks to the system, an automatic flushing process can thus
be initiated after periods of standstill, e.g. over night, after the
weekend or holidays, in dental practices.
In other fields of application, the flushing can, for example, be
activated by means of an on-site timer.

D Installation and start-up
1 | General installation instructions
•Obey local installation directives, general guidelines (e.g.
WVU, EVU, VDE, DIN, DVGW or ÖVGW or SVGW) and the
system's technical specifications.
•The installation site must be accessible for maintenance
work, flood and frost-proof and ensure the system's protec-
tion from chemicals, dyes, solvents and vapours. The system
must not be operated in a dusty environment or if acids and
corrosive or potentially explosive gases are present.
•The installation site should be cool, if possible. In a warm en-
vironment, large differences in the temperature of the incom-
ing, cold drinking water and the environment can – subject to
the humidity of the air – cause the formation of condensed
water and dripping at system components.
•The system must be installed in pipes of the same dimen-
sions as the nominal diameters of the system. A fine filter
must be installed directly upstream of the system and shut-off
valves must be provided in the on-site installation of the sys-
tem's inlet and outlet.
•A socket - and if needed a second socket for the optional
flushing device - is required to supply of the Euro system
separation device GENO-G5 with power (e.g. if the pump's
fault signal output is being analysed in the event of a power
failure).
•A drain connection (at least DN 50) must be available, which
is able to discharge the maximum inlet volume in case of a
malfunction. The installation room must have a floor drain. If
no floor drain is available, a corresponding water stop device
must be installed.
•The installation room must have a floor drain. If no floor drain
is available, an appropriate safety device must be installed.
Warning! Floor drains that discharge to a lifting system do not
work in case of a power failure.

•According to DIN EN 1988, part 2, quick-closing shut-off fit-
tings that might cause positive or negative water hammer
may only be used for continuous actuation in water installa-
tions if the max. admissible water hammer pressure and op-
erating pressure are taken into account. Exceptions apply for
fittings that are only used for test purposes and are operated
by experts.
•Depending on the withdrawal conditions it might be reasona-
ble, as the case may be even necessary, to have an additional
diaphragm expansion tank installed on site (e.g. if in case of a
relatively speedy start of the withdrawal and a high flow rate,
the drop in pressure is to be kept low).
Caution! Dirt and corrosion particles can cause malfunctions or
damage to the system. Prior to the installation of the system, the
required connections must be made and the feed pipe must be
flushed prior to installation or start-up of the system as well.
2 | Water installation
The installation of a safety device represents a major interference
with the drinking water system. Therefore, only authorised ex-
perts must install such systems.

Preliminary work
1. Unpack the system and possible accessories and check for
completeness and soundness.
2. Move the system's waste water discharge into the desired di-
rection (refer to fig. D-3). When pivoting the bottom part, either
firmly hold on to the upper part or dismantle the support
bracket, pull off the waste water discharge downwards and
then pivot it in the dismantled state. The integrated, waterless
odour trap (refer to fig. D-1) must be pivoted into the direction
of discharge separately. To do so, remove the odour trap in an
upward move and reinsert it again with the opening flap point-
ing in the outlet direction of the bottom part.

Water installation work
•Prepare and check the on-site installation in accordance with
the installation instructions and the general rules.
•Set up the system at the installation site.
•Compensate for uneven floors by adjusting the rubber feet, if
necessary.
•Install the system in accordance with the installation instruc-
tions. Also refer to the installation example given in fig. D-4.
•If necessary, mount the optional flushing device at the provided
connection (adjacent to the sampling valve) as shown in fig.
D-5. To do so, unscrew the union nut and remove the blind
plug. Route the mains cable downwards on the right of the out-
let funnel and fasten it at the cable fastening plate using cable
ties.
•Connect the water inlet and water outlet by means of the op-
tional connection kit.
•Connect the waste water discharge with a downward slope to
the drain.

3 | Electrical installation
3.1 Notes
The tasks described below must only be performed by qualified
electrical experts according to the VDE guidelines or according to
the guidelines of a similar local institution.
Warning! Pressure booster systems must be grounded at the be-
ginning of installation work.
Danger due to electrical energy!
Voltage may be present at terminals L, N and PE as well as at
the feed lines to voltage-free contacts.
Danger due to electrical energy!
In case the mains cable is damaged, it may only be replaced by
trained electricians or electronics experts.
Danger due to electrical energy!
Prior to any work on the system's electrical or mechanical compo-
nents, disconnect the centrifugal pump's frequency converter
from the mains supply.
Wait for at least 5 minutes after disconnection from mains before
carrying out any work on the frequency converter (SM drive sys-
tem) to allow the capacitors in the internal circuit to discharge.
Warning! When making the connections, the relevant rules and
regulations must be obeyed. Make sure that the type of power
source, the voltage and the supply frequency match the nominal
values shown on the data plate. Provide suitable general protec-
tion against short circuits on the electrical power line.
Warning! Install the system in such a way that the control unit re-
mains easily accessible should it become necessary to switch off
the system.
Caution! The system's power supply must only be connected af-
ter the system has been filled and the centrifugal pump has been
vented. Risk of centrifugal pump running dry due to entrapped air.
Caution! A highly sensitive residual current circuit breaker
(30 mA) must be provided in the mains supply line (RCD type 8)
by the client on site.
Caution: All electrical cables must be protected from high tem-
peratures, vibrations and mechanical damage.
