Always wear eye protection with side shields marked
to comply with ANSI Z87.1. Failuretodosocouldresult
inobjectsbeingthrownintoyoureyesresultinginpossible
seriousinjury.
An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely
necessary. Useofimproperextensioncordcouldresult
inariskoffireandelectricshock.Ifextensioncordmust
beused,makesure:
a.Thatpinsonplugofextensioncordarethesame
number,sizeandshapeasthoseofplugoncharger.
b.Thatextensioncordisproperlywiredandingood
electricalcondition;and
c.ThatwiresizeislargeenoughforACampererating
ofchargerasspecifiedbelow:

NOTE:AWG=AmericanWireGauge
Do not operate charger with a damaged cord or plug,
whichcouldcauseshortingandelectricshock.Ifdamaged,
havethechargerreplacedbyanauthorizedserviceman.
Do not operate charger if it has received a sharp blow,
been dropped, or otherwise damaged in any way.
Takeittoanauthorizedservicemanforelectricalcheckto
determineifthechargerisingoodworkingorder.
Do not disassemble charger. Take it to an authorized
servicemanwhen serviceor repairisrequired.Incorrect
reassemblymayresultinariskofelectricshockorfire.
Unplug charger from outlet before attempting any
maintenance or cleaning to reduce the risk of electric
shock.
Disconnect charger from the power supply when not in
use. Thiswillreducetheriskofelectricshockordamage
tothechargerifmetalitemsshouldfallintotheopening.
Italsowillhelppreventdamagetothechargerduringa
powersurge.

Donotchargebatteryinadamporwetlocation.Do
not use, store, or charge battery packs or products in
locations where the temperature is less than 50°F or

Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by the
battery charger manufacturer may result in a risk of

Do not abuse cord or charger. Neverusethecordtocarry
thecharger.Donotpullthechargercordratherthanthe
plugwhendisconnectingfromreceptacle.Damagetothe
cordorchargercouldoccurandcreateanelectricshock
hazard.Ifcordorchargerisdamaged,havethecharger
replacedbyanauthorizedserviceman.
Make sure cord is located so that it will not be stepped
on, tripped over, come in contact with sharp edges or
moving parts or otherwise subjected to damage or
stress. Thiswillreducetheriskofaccidentalfalls,which
couldcauseinjury,anddamagetothecord,whichcould
resultinelectricshock.
Keep cord and charger from heat to prevent damage
to housing or internal parts.
Do not let gasoline, oils, petroleum-based products,
etc. come in contact with plastic parts. They contain
chemicalsthatcandamage,weaken,ordestroyplastic.

OPERATION

APPLICATIONS
Youmayusethisproductforthefollowingpurpose:
ChargingHART40Voltlithium-ionbatteries
CAUTION:
Ifatanypointduringthechargingprocessnoneofthe
LEDsarelit,removethebatterypackfromthecharger
toavoiddamagingtheproduct.DONOTinsertanother
battery.Returnthechargerandbatterytoyournearest
servicecenterforserviceorreplacement.
NOTICE:
Chargeinawell-ventilatedarea.Donotblockcharger
vents.Keepthemcleartoallowproperventilation.
KEY HOLE HANGER
Tomountthecharger,onlyusethekeyholehangingfeature.
Tomountcharger,screwsshould beinstalledso thatthe
centerdistanceis25/8in.(66mm).
CHARGING
See Figure 1, page 7.
Battery packs are shipped in a low charge condition to
preventpossible problems.Therefore, youshouldcharge
thembeforefirstuse.Ifthechargerdoesnotchargeyour
batterypackundernormalcircumstances,returnboththe
batterypackandchargertoyournearestrepaircenterfor
electricalcheck.
Chargetime variesand isdependent uponthe amphour
capacityofbatterypack.
Makesurethepowersupplyisnormalhouseholdvoltage,
120 volts, AC only, 60 Hz.
Connectthechargertoapowersupply.
Attachthebatterypack to thechargerbyaligning the
raisedribsonthebatterypackwiththegroovesinthe
charger,thenslidethebatterypackontothecharger.
Pressdownonthebatterypacktobesurecontactson
the battery pack engage properly with contacts in the
charger.
Latches should snap into place to ensure charger is
correctlyconnected.
Donotplacethechargerinanareaofextremeheator
cold.Itwillworkbestatnormalroomtemperature.
The battery pack will become slightly warm to the
touch while charging. This is normal and does not
indicateaproblem.
ThegreenLEDwillflashwhilethebatterypackischarging.
NOTE:IftheLEDturnsredandbeginsapatternoftwo
quickblinks,thechargerhasdetectedanerror.SeeLED
Functions for Battery Chargingdetails.
Afterchargingiscomplete,thecharger’sgreenLEDwill
besolidgreen.
NOTE: TheLEDwillturnoff10minutesaftercharging
hasbeencompleted.
Toremovethebatterypack fromthecharger,depress
latchesandslidethebatterypackoutofthecharger.
Fanmaymakeaslighthummingnoisewhenthebattery
ischarging.
ASSEMBLY

ofaproductthatisnot properlyand completelyas-
sembledorwithdamagedormissingpartscouldresult

CHARGING A HOT BATTERY PACK
When using a tool continuously, the battery pack may
becomehot.Ahotbatterypackmaybeplaceddirectlyonto
thechargerportbutchargingwillnotbeginuntilthebattery
temperaturecoolstowithinacceptabletemperaturerange.
Whenahotbatterypackisplacedonthecharger,theorange
LEDwillbeonandthegreenLEDwillbeoff.Whenthebattery
packcools,thechargerwillautomaticallybegincharging.
OPERATION
CHARGING A COLD BATTERY PACK
Acoldbatterypackmaybeplaceddirectlyontothecharger
portbutchargingwillnotbeginuntilthebatterytemperature
warmstowithinacceptabletemperaturerange.Whenacold
batterypackisplacedonthecharger,theorangeLEDwill
beonandthegreenLEDwillbeoff.Whenthebatterypack
warmsthechargerwillautomaticallybegincharging.

• IfadifferentbatteryalsoindicatesError,thechargershouldbereplaced.
