All modifications, upgrades, or repairs must be performed by authorized Hillrom
personnel.
Secure and release straps as directed in section 3.2.4 step 6. and 3.2.8 step 5. of this IFU.
Replace straps as directed in section 3.6.3 of this IFU.

2.4 Indication for use:
Used to position adult patients in surgical procedures that utilize stirrups for the lithotomy
position in urology, gynecology, colorectal and robotic surgeries.

2.5 Intended use:
The Yellofins Apexis a reusable patient positioning stirrup device for safe lithotomy
positioning. Intended to simplify patient positioning in order to gain clinical access before
and after sterile draping.
Designed to be used by health care providers for surgical procedures that involve the
lithotomy position. The Yellofins Apexensures patient and staff safety by providing stable
platform for patient supports and positional control for patient weighing maximum500 lbs
(227 kg).

3. Equipment Setup and Use:
3.1 Prior to use:
Pre-Installation Check:
WARNING:
Inspect the product looking for any visible damage or sharp edges that could be
caused by a drop or impact during storage.
WARNING:
Make sure product has been properly cleaned and disinfected and wiped dry
prior to each use.
WARNING:
Before you use the Yellofins Apex, make sure that the product is appropriate for
the patient's anatomy.

Check for pressure points on the patient before use. Consult the surgeon before
use.

3.2.2 Initial Setup
1. Follow facility-approved procedures, or consult the attending surgeon to determine
if the patient has any conditions that contraindicate the use of the Yellofins Apexor
that limit positioning the patient.
The Yellofins Apexis labeled to indicate the patient left and right sides.
2. Place the rail clamps on the rail of the surgical table. Place the rail clamps adjacent
to the patient’s hip joint.
3. Remove the Yellofins Apexfrom the storage cart, cabinet, or table.
4. Grasp and firmly squeeze the lithotomy handle. Make sure that the blade mount is
parallel to the main support tube.
5. Hold the Yellofins Apexso that it is oriented vertically with the blade mount towards
the floor.

WARNING:
Do not use the Yellofins Apexwith a rail clamp not
listed in “List of Accessories and Consumable
Components Table:” on page 12. Patient or
caregiver injury and equipment damage can occur.
WARNING:
Make sure that the blade mount is through the rail clamp. Patient fall, injury, or
equipment damage can occur.
6. Insert the blade mount through the rail clamp.
7. Put the rail clamp in the necessary location for the patient. Make sure that the rail
clamp will be secure on the rail when you tighten the rail clamp.
WARNING:
Make sure the rail clamps securely attach the Yellofins Apexto the rail. Patientor
caregiver injury or equipment damage can occur.
8. Tighten the rail clamp.
9. Complete the “Pre-Use Function Checks” on page 17.
10. Grasp and firmly squeeze the lithotomy
handle and pull down to lower the
Yellofins Apex.

11. Grasp the boot release lever and pull up to unlock the stirrup.
12. Move the stirrup along the main support bar until the top end of calf section of the
stirrup is approximately at the patient’s mid-calf.
13. Release the boot release lever to lock the stirrup in place.
14. Do Step 2 through Step 13 on the other side of the table.
3.2.3 Pre-Use Function Checks
Make sure that the Yellofins Apexis in good working order. Do the checks that follow:
• Grasp and firmly squeeze the lithotomy handle. Make sure that
the Yellofins Apexmoves freely through the full range of
lithotomy adjustment, and ab/ad-duction. Release the
lithotomy handle.
• Grasp the boot release lever and pull up to unlock the stirrup.
Make sure that the stirrup does not release before the boot
release lever is fully engaged. Make sure that the stirrup moves
freely through the full range of adjustment. Make sure that the
stirrup moves freely along the main support tube. Release the
boot release lever.
• Apply moderate pressure to the lithotomy handle in all directions. Make sure that the
Yellofins Apexdoes not move.
• Apply moderate pressure to the stirrup boot in all directions. Make sure that the stirrup
boot does not move.
• Make sure that the straps engage securely and do not disengage when light force is
applied.

3.2.4 Put the Patient in the Stirrups
1. Make sure that the patient is positioned on the surgical table in accordance with
facility-approved procedures and the guidance of the surgeon.
WARNING:
Patient positioning should be performed by at least two staff members. Both of
the patient’s legs should be put in position at the same time. Patient injury can
occur.
WARNING:
Make sure that the patient’s legs are secure in the stirrup boot before you adjust
the stirrup. Patient injury can occur.
WARNING:
Make sure that there are not limbs or other objects in the path of movement of
the stirrup before you adjust the position of the stirrup. Patient or caregiver injury
and equipment damage can occur.
Do the steps that follow simultaneously to both legs.
2. Put one hand under the patient’s heel and one hand under the patient’s knee to
support the patient’s leg.
3. Gently flex the patient’s knees and put both legs into the stirrups.
• In Low Lithotomy, make sure that you do not hyperextend
the patient’s hip and knee.
