3.3 Intended use
The product described is an electronic module that can be used with Hilti
impact wrenches of the types SI… …ATA22 (“…” = any character) to
tighten threaded fasteners under controlled conditions, thereby safeguarding
the quality of the bolted connection (SafeSet technology). A record of
the work carried out is saved in the torque module and can be read
out, for documentation purposes, using the PROFIS Adaptive Torque PC
application.
▶Use only Hilti Liion batteries of the B 22 series with this product.
▶Use only the Hilti battery chargers of the C4/36 series to charge these
batteries.
▶Use only long 1/2″ impact sockets (Hilti, type SI-S 1/2″ L) for tightening
anchor fastenings.
3.4 Indicator LEDs
The various statuses of the LEDs on both sides of the module provide the
following information or indicate the applicable operating states:
Status Meaning
The indicator LEDs light green. • When scanning: The bar code or
QR code has been recognized.
• When tightening, after the impact
wrench has been switched off
automatically: The tightening
operation was completed suc-
cessfully.
The indicator LEDs light red. • When scanning: The bar code or
QR code was not recognized.
• When tightening, after the impact
wrench switches off: The bolt
fastening could not be tightened
in accordance with the selected
settings. The reason for this,
for example, could be that the
impact wrench was switched
off manually before the correct
torque was achieved.

5.6.2 “Tightening” operating mode
Note
The following information applies only to forward rotation of the impact
wrench (tightening). In reverse rotation, the impact wrench runs at the
highest torque setting.
In this operating mode a total of 30 torque settings are available. The setting
to be selected for a particular type of tightening application depends on the
diameter of the threaded fastener and the specified torque. The setting is
determined graphically on the basis of these data.
For the “Tightening” operating mode, the display shows the following:
The number to the right of the threaded-fastener symbol shows the selected
setting.
5.6.2.1 Determining the required setting for the “Bolting” operating
mode 5
1. Determine the specified torque and diameter for the bolted connection to
be tightened.
Note
For the sake of clarity, examples are shown in the diagram; the arrows
show the direction in which it should be read.
2. Start at the required torque on the vertical axis of the applicable diagram
and then move horizontally to the right until you reach the line for the
correct diameter.
3. Then move vertically downwards until you reach the horizontal axis and
read the setting at this point.
Note
The curves in the diagram were determined under specific conditions.
Since the conditions in everyday use constantly vary, the values
determined using the diagram should be used only as a guide. The
correct setting should therefore be determined as described below
by comparison with a conventional torque wrench.
4. Set the specified torque on a torque wrench and tighten a bolted
connection using the torque wrench.
5. Mark the exact position of the bolt or nut relative to the base material.
6. Release the bolt or nut again.
7. First select a slightly lower setting on the torque module than the one
indicated in the diagram.
Printed: 15.09.2017 | Doc-Nr: PUB / 5331629 / 000 / 02

12 English
Note
This should prevent damage to the bolted connection as a result of
overtightening.
8. Now use the impact wrench to tighten the bolt or nut.
9. Check whether the bolt or nut was tightened to exactly the same extent
as with the torque wrench.
Result 1 / 3
The bolt or nut was not adequately tightened
▶Release the bolt or nut and reset the torque module to the next higher
setting.
▶Tighten the bolt or nut using the new setting and carry out this step of
the test again.
Result 2 / 3
The bolt or nut was overtightened.
▶Release the bolt or nut and reset the torque module to the next lower
setting.
▶Tighten the bolt or nut using the new setting and carry out this step of
the test again.
Result 3 / 3
The bolt or nut was tightened to exactly the same extent as with the
torque wrench
The correct setting for the bolt or nut has been determined.
5.6.3 “Unregulated” operating mode
Adaptive torque control is deactivated in this operating mode. The impact
wrench then functions as though the adaptive torque control module was
not fitted to the tool. The adaptive torque module therefore does not have
to be removed for short periods of use without adaptive torque control.
In the “Unregulated” operating mode the display shows the following:
Note
In the “Unregulated” operating mode the “AT” torque display control
LED does not light. The torque can be set on the impact wrench.
5.7 Setting the operating mode
The operating mode can be set in 2 different ways to the desired type of
screw/bolt fastening:
• By scanning the applicable bar code or QR code
