1 How to Use the Getting Started
This Getting Started shows how to configure an Ixxat SG-gateway for EtherNet/IP with the Ixxat
WEB-PLC and the Rockwell Software Studio 5000. The Getting Started accompanies the tutorial
video that can be found on www.ixxat.com/energy-video.
2 Protocol Specific Features and Restrictions

3 Configuring the Device
3.1 Setting IP Address of the EtherNet/IP Ports
►Open Rockwell Studio 5000 standard DHCP tool.
►In menu Start, select the Rockwell standard DHCP tool.
►Connect the SG-gateway to power supply.
→ During the boot up the SG-gateway appears with its MAC address in the DHCP tool.
►Select the MAC address of the connected SG-gateway in the list and set the IP address of
the EtherNet/IP ports. DHCP is activated by default.

►Access the SG-gateway WEB-PLC (see WEB-PLC Settings, p. 4).
3.2 WEB-PLC Settings
Observe that changes in the configuration are only saved after clicking button OK and
rebooting with button Reboot .
►Observe SG-gateway User Manual for information how to install the device and how to
configure the IP address of the device.
►Enter IP address of the device in use into a web browser.
→ Log in window is opened.

►Enter user name and password.
→ Home page of the WEB-PLC is opened.

►Click button Settings .
►Open tab Settings (1) and expand I/O in the configuration tree.
►Select EtherNet/IP Adapter (2) in the configuration tree.
►Activate checkbox Store changes from external tools (3) to keep changes that are made in
external tools after a reboot.
HMS recommends to work with the default DHCP IP settings for the EtherNet/IP ports during the
configuration.
►Define desired inputs and outputs (see Defining Inputs and Outputs, p. 6).
►Click button OK (4) and button Reboot to apply the changes.
►Click button Download (5) to download the EDS file.
→ Generated ESD file contains all defined modules and values.
►To configure the communication between the SG-device and the PLC, import the ESD file in
an external tool (e.g. Rockwell Studio 5000, see Configuring the EtherNet/IP Communication,
p. 7).

3.3 Defining Inputs and Outputs
In the group list, groups can be defined and values can be added to the groups.
►To add inputs select line input in the device list and click button Add Group.
►To add outputs select line output in the device list and click button Add Group.
→ Window Edit Group is opened.
►In the Window Define a name for the group (1-64 printable ASCII characters). Each group
name can only be used once.
►Click button OK.
→ Groups are entered in the device list.
►To add a value to a group, select the group in the device list and click button Add Value (2).
→ Window Edit value is opened.

►Configure the value parameters and click button OK.
Value parameter Description
Name Name of value (1-64 printable ASCII characters). Name is shown in the external tools (e.g.
Studio 5000). Each value name can only be used once inside a group.
Data type Data type of the value
Length If length is more than 1, an array is defined. Arrays can have up to 255 elements
►Add all desired input and output groups including the desired values.
→ Groups and values are entered in the device list.
→ Each group and each value gets an index (5) that is used internally to address the
modules and values.
►To modify an input, output, or value double click on the respective list entry.
►Click button OK (3) and button Reboot to apply the changes.

To configure the communication between the PLC and the SG-gateway the Rockwell Software
Studio 5000 can be used.
4.1 Creating a New Project in Studio 5000
►Open Studio 5000.
►In the quick start menu click New Project to create a new project.
→ Window to create a project is opened.
►Select the controller in use.
►Define name and path of project.
►Click button Next.
►If necessary modify the controller settings and click button Next.
→ Project is created.

►Open menu Tools and select EDS Hardware Installation Tool.
→ EDS wizard is opened.
►Start the wizard.
►Select Register an EDS file and click button Next.
►Select Register a single file and click button Browse to select the created ESD file (see WEB-
PLC Settings, p. 4 for information how to create an ESD file).
►Click button Next.
→ Window that shows the active installed EDS files is opened.

►Click button Next.
→ Window that shows the active communications adapters is opened.
►Select the SG-gateway and click button Next.
►To confirm the registration of the SG-gateway, click button Next.
►Finish the EDS wizard.
►In the Windows taskbar click on icon RSLinx Classic Activation.
→ Window RSLinx Classic is opened.

►In menu Communications (1) select Configure Drivers.
→ Window Configure Drivers is opened.
►In drop down menu Available Driver Types (2) select EtherNet/IP Driver.
►Click button Add New (3) and define a name for the driver.
►Select the controller in use and click button OK.
→ Driver is added to the list (4).
►Click button Close.

►In the toolbar, click button to see who is active.

►In opened window Who Active expand the newly configured driver in the configuration tree
(1) and click button Refresh (2).
►Select the driver (3) and click button Go Online (4).
→ Window Connected To Go Online is opened.
►To download the configuration to the PLC, click button Download.
►In opened window Download click button Download.
→ Configuration is downloaded to the PLC.
►Confirm the download.
→ If the connection and the driver are working, the control lights are shown in green.

4.2 Adding a Module
►Disconnect the device in Rockwell Studio 5000 to set the configuration offline.
►In the configuration tree open folder I/O Configuration and right-click on the entry Ethernet.

►In the opened context menu select New Module (1).
→ Window Select Module Type is opened.
►Search for the SG-gateway (2).
►Select the SG-gateway entry in the list (3) and click button Create (4).
→ Window New Module is opened.

►Define a name for the module in field Name (1).
►Enter the IP address of the EtherNet/IP port (2).
►To change the module definition click button Change (3).
→ Window Module Definition is opened.
►Define the data type and size of the input and output size.
►Click button OK and confirm the change.
►Close the window Select Module Type.

►To check if the module is working correctly, click on the Offline symbol (1) and select Go
Online.
→ Window Connected To Go Online is opened.
►To download the configuration to the PLC, click button Download.
►In opened window Download click button Download.
→ Configuration is downloaded to the PLC.
►Confirm the download.
→ If the module is running correctly, the Status changed to Running.
►Configure a program (see Configuring a Program, p. 11).
4.3 Configuring a Program
►Go offline and configure your program in Studio 5000.
►For a configuration of an example loopback program see tutorial video on
www.ixxat.com/energy-video.
►Download the configured program to the PLC and go online.
►To check the state of the running program, access the WEB PLC editor and activate the Live
View function.
