Generally
Holms SU is a frontmounted pick-up sweeper made to fit on
loaders, tractors, skidsteers etc. The broom operates with one
direct acting hydraulic motor. The sweeper is made for an oil
flow between 30-80 l/min.
The suspension of the sweeper gives a constant and evenly ap-
plied pressure against the ground. This gives minimal brush
wear and insensitiveness to unevenness, grooves, kerb stones
etc.
Holms SU is in standard design equipped with a 240 l. water
tank and an electric driven water pump.
The attachment hooks are attached by screws to the chassi
which makes side shift possible, and it´s also easy to shift be-
tween different carriers.

Operating instruction
Connecting to carrier
1. Connect the sweeper to the carrier by tilting the equipment
bracket forward, see picture 3, connect the hooks, lift and tilt
backwards. The equipment can now be locked (see carrier´s
manual).
2. Connect the driving hose quick couplings to the 3:rd hy-
draulic function or to the carrier hydraulic motor outlet.
NOTE: It is of the utmost importance that the hydraulic cou-
plings be clean, since dirt in the hydraulic system is devastat-
ing to the life of the motor.
3. Connect the electric cable harness of the waterpump to the
carrier.
4. Start the sweeper by moving the control lever for the 3:rd
function to its locking position or activate the hydraulic motor
circuit.
5. Check the sweeper rotation direction (fig.3). If the sweeper
rotates in the opposite direction in locked position, shift
locked position of the lever or shift the quick couplings for the
3:rd, or motor hydraulic function.
Sweeper setting height and tilt
1. Lift up the sweeper.
2. Tilt the sweeper until the tilting indicator markers are in
line. See fig. 4.
3. Slowly lower the sweeper until the container is about 10 cm
above the ground and the rubber-shields reaches the ground
(fig.5).
Attention! When sweeping on uneven ground lift up the ma-
chine temporary to avoid contact between the ground and the
waste container.
4. Eventual re-adjust the tilt as described in point 2.
NOTE: During operation in sensitive environments, the street
sweeper can be temporarily extended slightly forward. This
causes any stone projection forward to decrease.
Emptying the waste container
Lift up the machine, tilt it backwards and the waste comes out.
See fig. 6. Rotate the broom in a low rpm. for a short time to
make the broom free of waste.

Disconnecting from carrier
1. Loosen the hydraulic quick couplings and the electric cable
harness.
2. Loosen the locking pins on the equipment bracket, carefully
lower the mashine to the ground. This is important, other-
wise the sweeper can be damaged.
When it reaches the ground tilt forward and drive backwards
so the hooks are loosend.
Dust control
• The pump shall not operate dry too long. When running out
of water the pump is to be shut-off.
• The machine is equipped with a water filter to avoid dirt
coming into the system. This can be cleaned and reused. See
picture 7.
• When temperature below 0°C empty the water-tank, pump
and hoses. Begin with emptying the tank, then start the
pump for 20-30 seconds until it is empty. When emptying
the tank, loosen the hose by the filter with the clips and the
water comes out. See fig. 7.
Side brush (extra equipment)
Holms SU can be equipped with a side brush for even better
result close to cerb stones etc. It can be mounted on the right
or the left side.
Driving
Put down the sidebrush by removing the pin A (fig 8) lift off
the brush from the hanging B remount the pin A. It’s very im-
portant to remount the pin A when it’s working as a stop for
the brush.
Attention! The side brush shall always be in upper, locked
position when transport-driving or emptying of the waste
container is done. Otherwise the side brush can be dam-
aged. If transport driving and emptying of the waste con-
tainer is done carefully the side brush can remaine in
driving position.
Change of brushes
Unscrew the four nuts and dismount the brush. When re-
mounting operate reverse.

Mounting
In removing bearing journals, these shall be driven out in the
direction of the arrows; see Fig. 9b.This depending on the
holes for the journals being equipped with grooves to prevent
rotation of the journals.
Maintenance
After running
• Wash the sweeper which increases the lifetime and makes it
easier to detect eventual leakage or other defects.
• Inspect the sweeper concerning damages on hoses, rubber
shield or frame work. Also check eventual oil leakage.
Important safety
regulations to be noticed
• Be sure the tractor/loader is designed to carry/operate this
attachment with it´s weight.
• Be sure that unqualified persons are not in the operating
area during work or maintenance.
• Always use the quick coupling plugs and put the hose-ends
into the holders when the machine is disconnected, to avoid
dirt coming into the hydraulic system and to protect the
hoses.
Change of brushes
Slowly lower the container towards the ground.
Dismounting of sweeper roll
1. Remove the water tank.
First empty it on water by loosen the connection to the water
pump. See fig. 7. Remove the strap pos.A fig.10 and the tank.
2. Remove the lifting-stop both right and left side. See pos.C
fig.10.
3. Loosen the front attachment for the slewing bracket, both
sides. Pos.D fig.10.
Only the screws are loosend from the outside and the slewing
bracket can remaine on the anchor plate, fig.11.

4. Carefully lift up the sweeper so the motor can be pulled out
on the side. Fig.11.
Attention! If the sweeper is lifted to high before the motor
is pulled out, the sweeper can be hanging in the hydraulic
hoses so it will be damaged.
5. Lift the sweeper and remove the roll.
Change of brushes
1. Loosen the three strain springs and remove the sweeper roll
end ring. Fig.11.
2. Pull away the brushes and the distance rings. This takes
place simply in order to suspend the roll vertically in crane or
equivalent.
3. Check the core free from damage.
4. Lift up the core with bearing down and place it on a trunk of
tree or similar. This to avoid damage on the axle and the slew-
ing bracket.
5. Place one brush element with the brush element pins in the
space between the three square steel.
6. Place one distance ring.
7. Place alternating brush elements and distance rings. Please
note that the brush rings ”element pins” shall be evenly ap-
plied between the three square steel. This to avoid that all force
is applied to one square steel.
8. To get the wholecore "dressed"double brushes withoutdis-
tance ring at the end may be nessesary in order to receive
agreement of length.
9. Fasten the end ring with the three strain springs. Fig. 11.

Mounting of hydraulic hose
If the hydraulic hoses are removed, it is of the utmost impor-
tance that they be remounted properly.
1. Hoses are mounted at a 45° angle, in the direction toward
the ground.
2. The hoses shall then follow the inside of the chassis. See
Fig. 12.
Mounting of bearings
The machine's bearings are made of maintenance-free materi-
al. However, they shall be lubricated in remounting.
