Fire Alarm & Emergency Communication System Limitations
While a life safety system may lower insurance rates, it is not a substitute for life and property insurance!
An automatic fire alarm system—typically made up of smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, audible warning devices, and a fire alarm control panel
(FACP) with remote notification capability—can provide early warning of a developing fire. Such a system, however, does not assure protection against property damage
or loss of life resulting from a fire.
The manufacturer recommends that smoke and/or heat detectors be located throughout a protected premises following the recommendations of the current edition
of the, manufacturer's recommendations, State and local codes, and the recommendations contained in the Guide for Proper Use of System Smoke Detectors, which
is made available at no charge to all installing dealers. While fire alarm systems are designed to provide early warning against fire, they do not guarantee warning or
protection against fire. A fire alarm system may not provide timely or adequate warning, or simply may not function, for a variety of reasons:
Smoke detectors may not sense fire where smoke cannot reach the detectors such as in chimneys, in or behind walls, on roofs, or on the other side of closed doors.
Smoke detectors also may not sense a fire on another level or floor of a building. A second-floor detector, for example, may not sense a first-floor or basement fire.
Particles of combustion or “smoke” from a developing fire may not reach the sensing chambers of smoke detectors because:
•Barriers such as closed or partially closed doors, walls, chimneys, even wet or humid areas may inhibit particle or smoke flow.
•Smoke particles may become “cold,” stratify, and not reach the ceiling or upper walls where detectors are located.
•Smoke particles may be blown away from detectors by air outlets, such as air conditioning vents.
•Smoke particles may be drawn into air returns before reaching the detector.
The amount of “smoke” present may be insufficient to alarm smoke detectors. Smoke detectors are designed to alarm at various levels of smoke density. If such density
levels are not created by a developing fire at the location of detectors, the detectors will not go into alarm.
Smoke detectors, even when working properly, have sensing limitations. Detectors that have photoelectronic sensing chambers tend to detect smoldering fires better
than flaming fires, which have little visible smoke. Detectors that have ionizing-type sensing chambers tend to detect fast-flaming fires better than smoldering fires.
Because fires develop in different ways and are often unpredictable in their growth, neither type of detector is necessarily best and a given type of detector may not
pro- vide adequate warning of a fire.
Smoke detectors cannot be expected to provide adequate warning of fires caused by arson, children playing with matches (especially in bedrooms), smoking in bed,
and violent explosions (caused by escaping gas, improper storage of flammable materials, etc.).

Heat detectors do not sense particles of combustion and alarm only when heat on their sensors increases at a predetermined rate or reaches a predetermined level.
Rate-of-rise heat detectors may be subject to reduced sensitivity over time. For this reason, the rate-of-rise feature of each detector should be tested at least once per
year by a qualified fire protection specialist. Heat detectors are designed to protect property, not life.
Smoke detectors must be installed in the same room as the control panel and in rooms used by the system for the connection of alarm transmiss
ion wiring,
communications, signaling, and/or power. If detectors are not so located, a developing fire may damage the alarm system, compromising its ability to report a fire.
Audible warning devices such as bells, horns, strobes, speakers and displays may not alert people if these devices are located on the other side of closed or partly
open doors or are located on another floor of a building. Any warning device may fail to alert people with a disability or those who have recently consumed drugs,
alcohol, or medication. Please note that:
•Strobes can, under certain circumstances, cause seizures in people with conditions such as epilepsy.
•Studies have shown that certain people, even when they hear a fire alarm signal, do not respond to or comprehend the meaning of the signal. Audible devices,
such as horns and bells, can have different tonal patterns and frequencies. It is the property owner's responsibility to conduct fire drills and other training exercises
to make people aware of fire alarm signals and instruct them on the proper reaction to alarm signals.
•In rare instances, the sounding of a warning device can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss.
A life safety system will not operate without any electrical power. If AC power fails, the system will operate from standby batteries only for a specified time and only if
the batteries have been properly maintained and replaced regularly.
Equipment used in the system may not be technically compatible with the control panel. It is essential to use only equipment listed for service with your control panel.
Telephone lines needed to transmit alarm signals from a premise to a central monitoring station may be out of service or temporarily disabled. For added protection
against telephone line failure, backup radio transmission systems are recommended.
The most common cause of life safety system malfunction is inadequate maintenance. To keep the entire life safety system in excellent working order, ongoing
maintenance is required per the manufacturer's recommendations, and standards. At a minimum, the requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) shall be
followed. Environments with large amounts of dust, dirt, or high air velocity require more frequent maintenance. A maintenance agreement should be arranged through
the local manufacturer's representative. Maintenance should be scheduled as required by National and/or local fire codes and should be performed by authorized
professional life safety system installers only. Adequate written records of all inspections should be kept.

Installation Precautions
Adherence to the following will aid in problem-free installation with long-term reliability:
WARNING - Several different sources of power can be connected to the fire alarm control panel. Disconnect all sources of power before servicing. The control unit
and associated equipment may be damaged by removing and/or inserting cards, modules, or interconnecting cables while the unit is energized. Do not attempt to
install, service, or operate this unit until this guide is read and understood.
CAUTION - System Reacceptance Test after Software Changes. To ensure proper system operation, this product must be tested after any programming operation
or change in site-specific software. Reacceptance testing is required after any change, addition or deletion of system components, or after any modification, repair or
adjustment to system hardware or wiring.
All components, circuits, system operations, or software functions known to be affected by a change must be 100% tested. In addition, to ensure that other operations
are not inadvertently affected, at least 10% of initiating devices that are not directly affected by the change, up to a maximum of 50 devices, must also be tested and
proper system operation verified.
However, the useful life of the system's standby batteries and the electronic components may be adversely affected by extreme temperature ranges and humidity.
Therefore, it is recommended that this system and all peripherals be installed in an environment with a nominal room temperature of +15°C … +27° C.
Verify that wire sizes are adequate for all initiating and indicating device loops. Most devices cannot tolerate more than a 10% I.R. drop from the specified device
voltage.
Like all solid-state electronic devices this system may operate erratically or can be damaged when subjected to lightning- induced transients. Although no system is
completely immune from lightning transients and interferences, proper grounding will reduce susceptibility. Overhead or outside aerial wiring is not recommended,
due to an increased susceptibility to nearby lightning strikes. Consult with the Technical Services if any problems are anticipated or encountered.
Disconnect AC power and batteries prior to removing or inserting circuit boards. Failure to do so can damage circuits.
Remove all electronic assemblies prior to any drilling, filing, reaming, or punching of the enclosure. When possible, make all cable entries from the sides or rear. Before
making modifications, verify that they will not interfere with battery, transformer, and printed circuit board location.
Do not tighten screw terminals more than 9 in-lbs. Over- tightening may damage threads, resulting in reduced terminal contact pressure and difficulty with screw
terminal removal.
Though designed to last many years, system components can fail at any time. This system contains static-sensitive components. Always ground yourself with a
proper wrist strap before handling any circuits so that static charges are removed from the body. Use static-suppressive packaging to protect electronic assemblies
removed from the unit.
Follow the instructions in the installation, operating, and programming manuals. These instructions must be followed to avoid damage to the control panel and
associated equipment. FACP operation and reliability depend upon proper installation by authorized personnel.

3User Levels
3.1 Level Definition
The FACP panel has four user Levels: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4.
USER LEVEL 1 - The touch display is the primary indicator for the status of installation and provides detailed information about any current fire alarm, fault,
supervisory, test and disablement condition.
USER LEVEL 2 - A few system operation parameters and certain functions can be changed. You can enter the USER LEVEL 2 by entering the Level 2 passcode from
USER LEVEL 1.
USER LEVEL 3 - Full system configuration and programming are possible. USER LEVEL 3 is reached by entering the associated passcode from either USER LEVEL
1 or LEVEL 2. USER LEVEL 3 is intended for the system installer or maintenance contractor. There can be only one user with USER LEVEL 3 access
for a panel.
USER LEVEL 4 - The user with LEVEL 4 access can perform all the operations for USER LEVEL 1, 2, 3 and do the firmware update, manage users of Level 2, Level 3,
Level 4 and wipe the event log. The user with LEVEL 4 access is the master user. There can be only one user with the USER LEVEL 4 access for a
panel.
3.2 User Passcodes
1. Up to ten LEVEL 2 users and passcodes can be programmed into the panel.
2. The USER LEVEL 2 passcodes can be assigned or changed at LEVEL 3 or LEVEL 4 by the installer or the maintenance provider. Level 2 passcodes do not allow
access to Level 3 and Level 4 functions.
3. The USER LEVEL 3 passcode can be assigned or changed at LEVEL 4 by the Level 4 user. Level 3 passcode does not allow access to Level 4 functions.
4. The USER LEVEL 4 passcode can be changed at LEVEL 4 by the Level 4 user.

4Access Levels
The Access Levels for the FACP are:
ACCESS LEVEL 1: The panel’s outer door is closed and locked. The visual and audible indications can be seen and heard through the transparent outer door. The
manual call point on the outer door can be operated.
ACCESS LEVEL 2A: The panel’s outer door has been unlocked and opened. The different windows for indications on the LCD can be navigated. On the LCD, all the
devices in alarm and zones in alarm can be viewed. A firefighter can operate the Fire Brigade Panel and the front panel control keys. Authorized
personnel can operate the fire fan controls.
This level allows silencing of buzzer, silence/resound of all activated sounders, scrolling through multiple alarm events, reset of all alarm, fault
and supervisory conditions and disablement of all alarm zones.
ACCESS LEVEL 2B: The panel’s outer door has been unlocked and opened. A user LEVEL 2 passcode is required for a service technician to operate the LCD menu
for service, testing and maintenance.
This level allows testing of all audible and visual indicators, switching on/off delays, disable/re-enable zones, outputs and/or individual devices
as well as starting/cancelling the test mode for zones.
ACCESS LEVEL 3A: Requires Access Level 2A first, then the inner door needs to be opened with a large screwdriver or coin. The AC mains and/or batteries can be
connected/ disconnected.
ACCESS LEVEL 3B: Requires Access Level 2A first. A user LEVEL 3 passcode is required to enter the ‘Commissioning’ section of the LCD menu, to perform a full
system configuration and programming.
This level allows the configuration of delays to outputs, configuration for Type A (Alarm Verification Facility), Type B and Type C fire alarm
dependencies as also view the current configuration version number.
ACCESS LEVEL 4: Requires Access Level 3A first. A user LEVEL 4 (master) passcode is required to enter the ‘Administration’ section of the LCD menu. Then a
USB storage device containing the firmware files is required to perform the firmware update.
5Controls and Indications
5.1 User Control Keys - Function Descriptions

SILENCE BUZZER Press to acknowledge the event and silence the internal buzzer.
SILENCE / RESOUND ALARM Press to turn off ALL activated sounders. Press again to re-activate the sounders.
Scroll UP/DOWN Press to scroll through several alarm events.
RESET Press to reset all alarm, fault, and supervisory conditions.
DISABLE Press to disable alarm zones when panel is in alarm condition.

5.2 Front Panel LED Indications
The following table provides the details of the LED indications on the Panel:
Indicator Color Function To Clear the Indication
ALARM ROUTING ACTIVATED Red The Red LED flashes when the Alarm Relay on the Relay I/O
Card is activated in fire condition. The LED illuminates
steadily after the alarm feedback input is received from the
customer's Brigade interface.
Correct the condition causing the alarm and then perform
Silence Alarm followed by panel reset.
FIRE Red The LED flashes when the panel has detected a fire alarm
condition.
The LED illuminates steadily after the alarm is
acknowledged using SILENCE BUZZER button.
Correct the condition causing the alarm and then perform
Silence Alarm followed by panel reset.
FAULT Yellow The LED flashes when the panel has detected a fault.
The LED illuminates steadily after the fault is
acknowledged using SILENCE BUZZER button.
Correct the condition causing the fault.
For system faults, correct the problem and then perform a
panel reset.
SUPERVISORY Yellow The LED flashes when the panel has detected a supervisory
condition.
The LED illuminates steadily after the supervisory signal is
acknowledged using SILENCE BUZZER button.
Undo the activity, which caused the supervisory condition.
DISABLED Yellow Part of the system, either input or output, has been
disabled manually by the user.
Re-enable the zones or devices. Refer to Disablement
Function.
TEST Yellow The system is in the test mode. The screen shows which zones
are being tested.
After the test is completed, cancel or stop the test mode.
ALARM SILENCED Yellow The sounder outputs are silenced. Correct the alarm condition and then perform a panel reset.
Press SILENCE / RESOUND again to reactivate the
sounders.
SYSTEM FAULT Yellow The CPU has reset, or a system fault has occurred. Correct the problem (if applicable). Then perform a panel reset.
DELAY Yellow This indicates that the system is operating with delays to
the outputs and the delays are active.
The delays may be disabled.
SEVERAL ALARMS Red The indicator shows when there are more than three
alarms. You can scroll up and down the list to see details of
the alarms.
Correct the condition causing the alarms and then perform
Silence Alarm followed by panel reset.
POWER Green STEADY: Indicates presence of power (either AC mains
and/or batteries).

ON Press to activate the Fire Fan in manual mode.
AUTO Press to operate the Fire Fan in Auto mode. The Fire Fan operation shall be initiated by the alarm condition in the panel.
OFF Press to stop the Fire Fan in manual mode.
FIRE MODE RESET Press to reset the FFCP from fire mode. Also, resets the relay outputs configured for Fire Trip latching.
5.4 Fire Fan Control Panel (FFCP) LED Indications
The following table provides the details of the LED indications on the FFCP:

RUN Red This
illuminates steadily to indicate that the Fire Fan is
running.
This LED flashes to indicate that a detector from a duct
detector zone has sensed smoke.
Correct the condition causing the alarm and then perform Silence Alarm
followed by panel reset and Fire Mode Reset.
FAULT Yellow This indicates that the Fire Fan is in fault condition
, caused
by either a fault input from the fan, or a mismatch in the fan
status or a fault in the input/output control modules of the
fan.
Correct the condition causing the fault.
STOP Green This indicates that the Fire Fan is stopped. Not Applicable
ON Red This indicates that the Fire Fan is running in manual mode. Not Applicable
AUTO Red This indicates that the Fire Fan is in Auto mode. Not Applicable
OFF Red This indicates that the Fire Fan is stopped in manual mode. Not Applicable
FIRE MODE RESET Red This indicates that the FFCP is in fire mode. Correct the condition causing the alarm and then perform Silence Alarm
followed by panel reset and Fire Mode Reset.

5.5 Status Display Indications
The 800 x 480 multi-colour capacitive touchscreen is the primary status indicator. The panel can display and process various events, which are categorized broadly in
the following categories:
1. "Fire Events"
2. "Supervisory Events"
3. "Fault Events"
4. "Disabled Events"
5. "Test Events"
The screen and LED indicators show the status of the panel for each of these categories. Events being displayed follow a priority order as listed above; indications of
fire always have priority over ALL other events indicated at the panel.
5.5.1 States of the Screen
The screen can be either in the Active state or in the Sleep state.
The screen displays various details, such as the state (SAFE), system date and time, panel model and the brand logo (at the bottom right of the screen). The screen
also displays the site name and panel name, if configured by the user, at the centre of the screen. If configured by the user, the service details (service company name
and phone number), are displayed at the bottom left of the screen.
The date is shown in the DD MMM YYYY format. The time is displayed in the 24 hours format.
5.5.1.1 Active State
The screen is in high-power state and ready to use. In this state, the
main menu can be accessed by tapping the icon from the top left
of the screen. The screen also displays the current user level at the top
right of the screen.
5.5.1.2 Sleep State
If the touchscreen is not touched for 30 seconds, the screen goes to the sleep state. Tap
anywhere on the screen to get the screen into the Active state.

5.5.3 Fire Events
When there is a fire event, the panel screen automatically shows details about the fire condition. Information such as the total number of zones that are in fire, the first
zone that detected the fire and the number of devices that are in the fire zone, are displayed on the screen.
To view the details of the devices that have detected fire, tap DEVICES IN FIRE.
The image below shows the first zone and the additional fire-detected zones. For example, a total of 36 devices in 7 zones have detected fire.
