NOTE: Do not try to install the control unit and devices connected without reading this manual.
DETECTION SYSTEM LIMITS
An alarm or fire detection system can be very useful for the prompt warning of any dangerous event, such as fire, a robbery
or a simple burglary, in some cases it can automatically manage events (transmission of messages for room evacuation,
automatic fire-extinguishing, TVCC system interface, access route or door blockage, automatic warning to authorities, etc.),
but in any case, it does not ensure protection against damages to propriety or damages caused by fires or robberies).
Moreover, each system may not properly operate if it is not installed and maintained according to the manufacturer’s
instructions.
PRECAUTIONS
These instructions contain procedures to be followed in order to avoid damages to
equipment. It is assumed that the user of this manual has performed a training course and
that he knows the applicable rules in force.
The system and all its components must be installed in an environment having the following
features:
Temperature: -5 °C ¸ +40 °C.
Humidity: 10 % - 93 % (without condensation).
Peripheral devices (sensors, etc.) which are not perfectly compatible with the control unit
may cause damages to the same control unit, and a bad operation of the system in any
moment. Therefore, it is essential to only use material which is guaranteed by NOTIFIER
and is compatible with its own control units.
Please consult NOTIFIER Technical Service for any doubt.
This system, like all solid state components, may be damaged by induced electrostatic
voltages: handles the boards keeping them among the edges and avoid to touch the
electronic components.
An appropriate earthing connection ensures, in any case, a sensitivity reduction to
disturbances.
Please consult NOTIFIER Technical Service if you cannot solve installation problems.
Any electronic system does not operate if it is not powered.
If power supply from the mains fails, the system ensures its operation through battery, but
only for a limited period of time.
During the system planning phase, take into account the autonomy required to appropriately
dimension the power supply and batteries.
Skilled personnel shall periodically check the state of batteries.
Disconnect the MAINS and the batteries BEFORE removing or inserting any board.
Disconnect ALL power supply sources from the control unit, BEFORE performing any
servicing.
The control unit and the connected devices (sensors, modules, annunciators, etc.) may be
damaged, if a new board is inserted or removed, or if the powered cables are connected.
The most common cause for malfunctioning is inappropriate maintenance.
Take special care of these aspects since you start the system planning phase; this will
facilitate future servicing and will reduce cost.
This device is marked CE to certify it is in conformity with the requirements of the European
community Directives:
Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 89/336/EEC (and the directive 92/23/EEC)
Low Voltage Directive 73/23/EEC

This device must be installed and must operate in accordance with these instructions
and to the rules in force in the installation place.

AM1224 is a zone fire detection panel designed to comply the EN54.2 and EN54.4 European rules.
The panel in the standard configuration have 12 detection lines ( zones) that can be expanded to 24 using an
option card.
In addition a second option card is available to provide 8 relays outputs and 8 Open Collector outputs.
Each output can be activated by use of the Control by Event programming .
The front panel user interface have a backlite LCD graphic display of 8 lines by 20 columns (128 x 64 pixel in
graphic mode)
The Am1224 panel give the user the possibility to install a conventional low cost fire detection system with
similar complexity as some advanced intelligent addressable systems.
The panel is compatible with all conventional field devices available by Notifier Italia

The followings are thresholds for faults indication on the Battery charger section:

Gound connection must be wired following CEI and ISPELS rules (Italy) or equivalent for different country.
In any case must ground circuit must have a resistance less than 10Ohm (measured at drain-well with
equipment disconnected). The Earth connection on CNAL terminals is mandatory .

This panel must be supplied with mains . In case of Mains loss the panel can continue to be supplied by internal
batteries for some time. Mains line required characteristics are:
Voltage : 230 Vac mono-phase + 10% - 15%.
Frequency: 50 / 60 Hz.
Current from Mains: 0.45 Aac.
Note: Pay particular attention to don’t install the panel near high power
electromagnetic sources as Radio transmitters , electric motors and so on.

DIMENSIONS FOR WALL MOUNTING
The control panel is designed for wall mounting through 4 blocking dowels (on brick walls) or thread studs (on
panels etc.) The maximum screw diameter is 5 mm.
The control panel should not be installed near heat sources (radiators, heaters, etc.).
The panel may be opened unscrewing the top cover.
Wires of detector lines, auxiliary devices and power supply may be passed into the panel using knock-out holes
running them along the cabinet internal side providing sufficient length especially for those connected to the
CNAL terminal block.
230 Vac wire power supply must be fixed inside of the control panel. For the 230 Vac wire power supply must
be interrupted by an external shut down switch.
For installation in a corner it is
necessary to have a distance of
280mm to let the frontal panel
open.
With 5 automatic blocks (brickwoork
wall) or selfscrew (prefabbricated
panel) it is possible tha wall mounting.
Diameter max of the selfcrew: 5mm
The contol panel has to be wall
mounted in order to allow a clear
visibility of the disply and an easy
access for the user.
For example 1.5 m height allow an
optimal display vision.

The power supply cable must preferably pass near the relative terminal block.
The connection to the 230 V power supply shall be made through 3 conductors cable (phase, neutral, earth).
The registration of the earth conductor coming from the main shall be connected to the CNAL terminal block and
must be fixed to the cabinet so that it can not accidentally be teared from the terminal.
Power supply connection shall be made in the following sequence:
1 - Open the 230 Vac power supply general switch.
2 - Disconnect terminal block CNAL from the control panel.
3 - Connect the power supply cable.
4 - Reconnect terminal block CNAL.
5 - Close the mains general switch.
6 - Install and connect batteries as specified in this manual.
7 - Close the control panel.

Detectors' connection line may be two wires (current consuming detectors) or three wires (separately powered
detectors with alarm on N.O. contact).
Wire type: preferably shielded – two conductors.

Through the sounder output,the control panel may drive a 24 Vdc sounder.
The panel checks permanently the control line integrity (against Cut and Short-circuit). For this function the
sounder shall have an end-of-line resistance.
The output is protected by a 1 A fuse.

EVACUATION : It is the command to activate the sounder output.
To do this procedure it is necessary to digit the password of level 2.
END DELAY : This button is enabled only in case of alarm if the immediate sounder activation was
disabled. The panel delay the sounder activation of the timinigs programmed.
During the delay time the LED “Active Delay “ is blinking and is possibile to force the reset of this delay
time.
MUTE BUZZER: the pressure of this key silence the buzzer of the contol panel and enable the user for
the RESET operation.
SILENCE/RESOUND : when the sounder output is activated (in case of alarm), the first pressure of this
key will de-activate the sounder output.
A second pressure, with the same condition, will reactivate the sounders.
RESET : the pressure of this key delete the memory of alarms and points troubles present at the moment.
De-activate the sounders and turn off the lighted signals fo the detectors in alarm.
To do this procedure it is necessary to know the password of level 2.
Keys to be used: DURING THE PROGRAMMING OR TO INTRODUCE THE PASSWORD. .
ARROWS : To be used to select something.
Note: pressing one of the keys more than 1 second the text is automatically repeated
ENTER: after a selection it confirms the inserted data.
ESCAPE: to “go back”, it deletes the last introduced data or has the function to exit the menù
FUNCTIONS KEYS: This kind of keys active the function that correspond with them on the display.
The function changes depending on the selected menu.
Example: in the screen “Installation status” these keys allow to enter the menù regarding the programming,
utility, exclusion or test.

Visual indication of the Front panel
ALARM (Red) :
It is flashing kf at least a device is in alarm, and it has not been identified.
It is fixed lighted Acceso if all the alarm status have been identifed.
REMOTE ALARM (Red) :
It remains lighted if the output to the transmission devices for the fire alarm has been activated.
DELAY IN PROGRESS (Yellow) :
It remains lighted if the exclusion regarding the immediate outputs activation, has been operated, used for type C outputs
(sounder output) and type E (alarm trasnmission with dialer).
When this exclusion is activated (Escl\System Att.Imm.) the control panel, in case of alarm, delays the outputs for the
programmed time (Prog\Sist\Tem. Usc.All.)
During the delay time the led is flashing and it is possible to reset the delay using the “End Delay” key, it i operats at the
level 1.
ZONE/POINT MASK (Yellow) :
it remains lighted when there is almost an exclusion in the control panel. We are referig to all the exclusions that could be
done in the exclusion menù.
WALK TEST IN PROGESS (Yellow) :
Lighted when the test is in progress.
POWER OK (Green) :
Fix lighted when the control panel is powered
FAULTS (Yellow) :
It is flashing if there is almost a trouble, of any kind, that has not been identified yet.
It remains lighted if all the trouble have been identified.
SYSTEMS (Yellow) :
it is lighted if there is almost a trouble in the system (watch dog fall, mistake in the memory, and so on)
MAINS (Yellow) :
it is lighted if there is a trouble on the feeder.
EARTH (Yellow) :
It is always lighted with positive condition or negative earth.
SOUNDER (Yellow) :
It is lighted if the sounder is excluded.
It is flashing when the sounder output is in trouble.
FAULTS TX (Yellow):
On if the fault signalling output is excluded (thelephone dialer).
It is flashing when the fault transmission is in trouble.
ALARM TX (Yellow):
On if the alarm transmission output is excluded (thelephone dialer).
It is flashing when the alarm transmission output is in trouble.
EXTINGUISCHING (Yellow):
On if output to the automatic fire system is excluded.
Flashes with the extinguisching output in fault condition.

Note. The entry in the non-volatile memory is subject to the position of the jumper J1 (hardware key) on the
back of the display.
Keyboard operation for the data input in the programming file:
Arrows 4 allow to move to the next folder (screen).
Arrows  allow to move into the folder (the selected field appears in REVERSE mode)
If the file provides for an index, we have the first two function buttons allowing browse.
The selected field can be changed entering in editing mode with return key .
According to the type of data we have different editing:
- Text strings (CBE, text description for lines or zone): 4 new functioning key are displayed
(F1 capital/small selection, F2 letters/numbers/symbols selection,
F3 insertion, F4 delete)
with the keys  it is possible to select the type for the current position,
with the keys 4 it is possible to move inside the string.
To insert number use numeric keypad
- Labels (YES, NO, ecc..): with it is possible to see sequentially all the selectable labels.
- Numeric input fields: simultaneous editing of two numeric fields not editable to single digit
To store the data presse the enter key to discard the data press the escape key
To escape from folder configuration, press the escape
To insert the passwords, when requested, select the necessary digit using the function keys
and confirming each letter with enter
When a wrong password it is typed the system display the following
message:
“WRONG PASSWORD : xxxxx “ where “xxxxx” is a 5 character
code.
It is possible to communicate this code to the authorized technical
assistance and recover the original password.

With Alarms the symbol of a Flame is visualized and the backlit of display become red.
With Troubles the symbol of a Triangle is visualized .
Note: The alarm status override any other indication .

RECOMMENDED SEQUENCE FOR CONTOL PANEL CONFIGURATION
NOTE: BEFORE ANY CONFIGURATION AT LEVEL 4 IT IS NECESSATY TO ENABLE THE SAME LEVEL 4
MOVING J1 JUMPER (HARDWARE KEY PROGR.) LOCATED ON THE DISPLAY BOARD. REACHABLE BY
OPENING THE CONTROL PANEL.
The following is the recommended sequence of initial configuration of the control panel, in order to prevent
errors or oversights and time consuming.
The details of each operation are shown in the following pages.
Make copies of the configuration sheet at the end of this manual and record the necessary information on these
sheets for all sensors, modules, zone software and CBE.
Wire the lines of the control panel and carry out all tests as described in the manual before turn on the
control panel.
If the 24 line expansion board is installed, from the Main Menù, select “System”, than “Expansion”“,
to enable the optional board.
From te menu “ Program” select “Detector line”, press enter key by function key “F1” or “F2” than
select the line to enable the reception of alarm from the field.
Select “Enable” with key arrow and press enter key . Again using the arrow keys to selec “YES”
than press enter key to confirm configuration.
Then assign a name to a line (see page 24) and assign a zone number to the programmed line (refer to
the programming “Detecor Line”)
If the 16 output board is installed it’s necessay to follow the following instructions:
From “Programmation” menù select the “Output”, than press enter ,
following with “F1” or “F2” function key, select the output that you want enabled .
Select “Enable” with arrow key  and press enter key , use arrow key again to select “YES”, than
press enter key to confirm the configuration.
Then assign a name to output and program the CBE equation (refer to the programming paragraph
“Output”)
The control panel at the end of the program is ready to manage the system, showing on the display the
status of lines with the information described in the following paragraphs.

Display in Zone Alarm condition
In ZONE ALARM condition the display background become RED.
Using ARROW keys is possible to browse the list of zone alarms.
Using ENTER key user have access to list of lines associated to the selected zone in alarm condition
Using Arrow keys  is possible to browse the list of lines in alarm.
Display in Zone Fault condition
The followin screen show the display in zone fault condition.
Troubles event are displayed by zone association.
Using Arrow keys  is possible to browse the list of Zone in Trouble condition .

Using ENTER key user have access to the list of lines in fault condition with the name of line as follow:
By pressing the key ENTER again user can toggle between the display of line name and type of fault:
With escape or leaving the keyboard with no operation for more than 15 seconds, the display come back to
Zone Fault list automatically.
Display in System Trouble condition
Fault events related to panel are defined as “System Faults “(for example: low battery voltage, Mains loss ,etc.).
