UDS-3 is a control panel for any extinguishing systems: inert gas, CO2, water, dust, foam etc.
The new extinguishing management panel UDS-3 manages two discharge zones according to UNI EN
12094-1; each zone has dedicated input and output lines.
UDS-3 has a metallic box with LCD display to allow easy plant status view and different password level
protected keyboard for programming and local plant management.
Compatible with all NOTIFIER control panels available in commerce:
conventional fire control panels AM200, CFP12/24, NFS series, etc.
analog fire alarm control panels AM1000, AM2000, AM4000, AM6000, etc. since it has two output
modules and four input modules (for each zone) to send alarm and fault signals to the analog control
panel.
UDS-3 can be activated by:
two inputs for each zone that define pre-activation and activation conditions. Connections for
conventional control panels are also provided
analog control panels through Loop connection (one for each zone) for discharge activation and to
send alarms and faults directly to the control panel;
through manual push-button (for each zone).
UDS-3 is protected from over voltage, short circuits, electrostatic discharges,
UDS-3 USER INTERFACE FEATURES:
Mandatory LED lightings for each discharge zone;
Separate indications for each zone on alphanumeric display, related to pre-activation, activation,
release, fault. These indications can be accessed any time;
Instantaneous pre-discharge time (that can be set) count-down display
GAS label to show that discharge is in progress
Keyboard access to system and zone information
Graphical menu for programming/configuration
Menu voices have settable passwords of level 4, 3, 2 (consistent with EN54.2)
Through suitable remote repeater panel, signals from main panel can be duplicated (e.g. for locals
with more accesses).

For each input in the terminal board, the following “activation window” is valid. The only exception is for
Flowmeter and Manostat inputs that can have the alarm window instead of the stand-by one (for NA or NC
inputs) depending on the program.
All inputs are balanced with an end-line 2,7K-1/4W resistor.
ALARM 1 AND ALARM 2 INPUTS
Balanced inputs.
Terminal board inputs for conventional control panels connection.
An input activation brings UDS-3 in “pre-activated” condition; if this signal disappears, the panel gets back into
stand-by mode.
A further activation signal, present on another input, brings UDS-3 into “activation mode”.
MANUAL EXTINGUISHING ACTIVATION INPUT
Balanced input.
Terminal board input for connection with a manual activation push-button (Rapid Discharge) of extinguishing
system.
If activated for 3 seconds it brings UDS-3 into “active mode”.
EMERGENCY DELAY INPUT
Balanced input.
Terminal board input for connection with an optional mechanical device that can delay release, while active.
ONLY MANUAL EXTINGUISHING INPUT
Balanced input.
Terminal board input for connection with an optional key switch to allow UDS-3 to pass from “Automatic” to
“Manual” mode.
EMERGENCY STOP INPUT
Balanced input.
Terminal board input for connection with an optional ABORT button; its activation, before release begins, blocks
discharge.
MANOSTAT INPUT
Balanced input.
Terminal board input for connection with the output of a Manostat, for extinguishing control.
Activation of this input during release phase means that extinguishing cycle was ok.
Its activation during stand-by instead, brings UDS-3 into fault condition “Low pressure” for “Extinguisher loss”.
FLOWMETER INPUT
Balanced input.
Terminal board input for connection with the output of a Flowmeter, for extinguishing control. This input can be
disabled from programming menu.
If activated during standby condition, it means that extinguishing system has not been activated by UDS-3 but by
an external device (it can be due to a manual activation of the rapid flux valve). This brings UDS-3 into “release
mode”. Instead if UDS-3, after analysing input activation signals, gets into release status, this input is used to
manager extinguishing cycle.

DESCRIPTION OF OUTPUTS ASSIGNED TO EACH UDS-3
EXTINGUISHING ZONE
PRE-ALARM DEVICE OUTPUT
Controlled output with a 2,7K-1/4W End-Of-Line resistor.
This output can be used to drive other devices of the extinguishing system, and it’s activated by a pre-alarm
signal. Being controlled, it’s particularly suitable for optical warning devices connections or for
optical/acoustic devices connection.
This output is activated during “pre-activated” condition, arisen by terminal board input or loop, and always
remains active. When UDS-3 goes back to standby condition this output switches off. This output can be
excluded.
N.B.: When pre-alarm output is activated polarity is inverted on the corresponding terminals.
SOUNDER OUTPUT
This is an output controlled by an End-Of-Line 2,7K-1/4W resistor.
Sounder’s acoustic signal is determined by extinguishing cycle phase.
These phases are determined by states in which UDS-3 is.
1. stand-by state: sounder OFF
2. pre-discharge state warning: sounder pulsing 0,5 sec ON - 0,5 sec OFF
3. active emergency delay state warning: sounder pulsing 1 sec ON - 0,5 sec OFF
4. release in progress status: sounder ON
Furthermore, sounder output can have the following functions:
1. Sounder output exclusion: sounder output can be excluded only if before actuators outputs are
excluded, in this case extinguishing output.
2. Sounder silencing: sounder output can be silenced when it is in “always on” status, that is
when UDS-3 is in “release condition” for that zone.
3. Evacuation: sounder output can be activated manually with continuous signal, to indicate an
evacuation of the zone, only if UDS-3 is in “standby” condition. Consequently in that situation
sounders can also be silenced. In case of evacuation command with alarm input activation,
sounder signals which phase is in progress.
N.B. When sounder output is active, polarity is inverted on the corresponding terminals.

FAULT EXTINGUISHING PLANT OUTPUT (UNIT BLOCKED/ZONE EXCLUDED)
This is a controlled output with an End-Of-Line 2,7K-1/4W resistance.
This output is activated if during UDS-3 standby state an extinguishing loss condition happens, caused by
manostat input activation; UDS-3 goes in “agent loss fault” and shows the “Low pressure” fault, or it is
activated when the associated zone is manually excluded from the “exclusions” menu.
DISCHARGE DONE OUTPUT
Relay output.
This output is activated at the end of the extinguishing cycle only when release has been performed
(manostat input and/or Flowmeter input active) and shows discharge was ok.
OUTPUT FOR PILOT BOTTLE/DIRECTIONAL VALVE
This output is controlled by and “End-Of-Line” 2,7K-1/4W resistor.
This output is activated when UDS-3 is in “active condition”, that is when it detects contemporarily pre-alarm
signal and alarm signal from terminal board or from loop, or manual extinguishing device input activation.
This output remains active till the end of extinguishing cycle.
Furthermore, this output can be excluded from programming.
N.B. When sounder output is active, polarity is inverted on the corresponding terminals.
EXTINGUISHING OUTPUT
This output is controlled by and “End-Of-Line” 2,7K-1/4W resistor.
This output is managed in “release condition”.
Furthermore, this output can be excluded from programming.
N.B. When sounder output is active, polarity is inverted on the corresponding terminals.
Relay output in common to both extinguishing zones
GENERAL OUTPUT FAULT
Relay output with an NO-NC contact selectable through jumper (JRL11).
This output is common to both zones and signals the presence of any fault condition. This output is not
suitable for connection with a fault transmission device.
RELEASE IN PROGRESS OUTPUT
Relay output with an NO-NC contact selectable through jumper (JRL13).
This output is common to both zones and is activated when a zone gets into release phase and remains
active till the execution of a reset command. This output is not suitable for connection with a fault
transmission device.
ACTIVE EMERGENCY EXTENSION OUTPUT
Relay output with an NO-NC contact selectable through jumper (JRL15).
This output is common to both zones and is activated when a zone gets into “emergency extension” phase
and remains active till the input gets back into normal condition.
ONLY MANUAL EXTINGUISHING ACTIVE OUTPUT
Relay output with an NO-NC contact selectable through jumper (JRL16).
This output is common to both zones, it’s active when at least one extinguishing zone is in “manual-only”
mode.

UDS-3 control panel has two analog loop inputs to manage signals dedicated to analog control panels, one
loop for each zone.
Each extinguishing zone is interfaced with the analog control panel through emulation with two output
modules and 4 input modules (six for each zone, twelve in total for both).
CNL1 terminal board is dedicated to analog loop input for zone 1 command and signals.
CNL2 terminal board is dedicated to analog loop input for zone 2 command and signals.
N.B. CNL1 and CNL2 terminal boards must not be connected on the same analog loop, as indicated
by 1294-1
Analog mode operation
2 output modules for each zone (to set as TYPE-ID = UDS1).
These two alarms are in OR with conventional inputs (respectively: CMX/1=ALL1 and CMX/2=ALL2).
Damages on conventional input don’t block these alarms.
4 input modules for each zone (to set as TYPE-ID = UDS2) for UDS-3 faults signalling to analog
control panel.
N.B. these six modules have consecutive addresses and only the following are allowed: 10-15,
20-25, 30-35, etc till 90-95.
Faults are sent towards analog control panel this way:
1st CMX signals (only if 3rd MMX is excluded) a fault (open circuit) when the control panel is
DISABLED or in MANUAL mode.
2nd CMX signals (only if 4th MMX is excluded) a fault (open circuit) for mains 230Vac missing or for
out of range power (voltage must be between 21-29Vdc).
1st MMX signals a fault (open circuit) in case of general fault of UDS-3
2nd MMX signals a fault (open circuit) in case of extinguishing line fault.
3rd MMX signals a fault (open circuit) when DISABLED or in MANUAL mode.
4th MMX signals a fault (open circuit) for mains 230Vac missing or for out of range power (voltage
must be between 21-29Vdc).
3rd and 4th MMX signals are also sent to CMX modules (1, 2) when two MMX modules (3, 4) are
excluded.

EVACUATION: Sounder activation output for each extinguishing zone.
Getting into this function through level 2 password, it allows selecting the zone to alarm
EXCLUSION
Allows exclusions setting through level 2 password.
Getting into this function, before entering into exclusions specific screen, it allows selecting zone (zone 1 or
zone 2).
A single exclusion presence, brings the relating zone into “out of service” condition
BUZZER SILENCING
It allows silencing UDS-3 buzzer.

Buzzer acoustic signalling is activated when one of the following happens:
1. in presence of the pre-activation signal, coming from terminal board or loop, buzzer acoustic signal is
silenced automatically if the pre-alarm cause is removed, bringing UDS-3 back to standby mode.
2. under active condition
3. under release condition if this is given by activation command coming from Flowmeter
4. under any fault condition
5. under emergency extension
RESET
It is possible to reset fault, activation and release condition through different keys under level 2 password.
Getting into this function it is possible to select:
zone 1 alarm/fault signals reset.
zone 2 alarm/fault signals reset.
system fault signals reset.
Selecting a zone allows resetting, if present, faults, activations and release conditions of the selected zone,
bringing it back to standby mode.
Selecting “System” command mains and common parts faults can be reset, practically all the errors shown
on the system faults screen.
SOUNDERS SILENCING
It allows disabling sounder output for each zone.
Getting into this function with level 2 password a specific zone can be selected.
EVACUATION: Activation command for Sounder output for each releasing zone. Getting into this function
through 2nd level password, you can select the zone whose sounder you want to start.

ARROWS:used for selections.
ENTER:after making a selection, confirms data
ESCAPE:“back”, erases the last introduced data or gets out of the menu
FUNCTION KEYS:these keys activate the corresponding displayed function. These
keys change in function of the selected menu.
Example: in the “plant status” screen, these keys allow to access to Programming,
Zone 1 Display, and Zone 2 display menus.
To modify parameters during programming, you need to select the parameter through  arrows
(characters of the selected field are in Reverse), press Enter key and use arrows  to modify the field;
at the end press enter again to confirm.

FUNCTION KEYS
Function keys allow programming menu access and status visualization for each releasing zone. They are near
display’s lower border and are active during visualization of UDS-3 main screen.
F1 (MENU)
It allows to access main menu for UDS-3 programming and configuration.
F2 (INFO)
It allows accessing the visualization screen for extinguishing condition, faults, and exclusions events in zone 1.
F3 (INFO)
It allows accessing the visualization screen for extinguishing condition, faults, and exclusions events in zone 2.
F4 (UDS3)
It allows accessing the visualization screen for UDS-3 system faults.

Operating conditions
Pre-activated unit condition
In presence of an activation signal on one of the two inputs zone 1 and zone 2 (for control panel connection)
or for pre-activation signal coming from analog loop. UDS-3 shows this condition by:
active buzzer
“extinguishing active” led blinking
Pre-alarm output active
Pre-activation indication both in the main screen and in the INFO screen (accessible via F2 key for
zone 1 and F3 for zone 2) that show zone related events.
Activated unit condition
In presence of an activation signal from both alarm 1 and alarm 2 inputs on the terminal board for conventional
control panel connection, or from pre-alarm and alarm signals coming from loop, or from signal coming from
manual activation input.
This condition is shown by UDS-3 through:
Buzzer activation
“extinguishing active” led ON
Pre-alarm output active
Pilot bottle/directional valve output active
Input activation display on extinguishing information screen (INFO accessible with F2 key for zone 1 or F3
key for zone 2) in which zone events are shown.
UDS-3 goes into “pre-discharge warning” or into discharge phase depending on the fact that pre-release
time was set or not.
Pre-release warning event
UDS-3 shows this condition through:
Countdown display showing remaining seconds before extinguishing output activation
Pulsing sounder output (0.5 sec OFF and 0.5sec ON)
Active emergency extension input condition
In this situation, whether extinguishing procedure was activated, UDS-3 doesn’t enter into release zone until
the input signal doesn’t get back to standby condition.
Emergency extension state is signalled by UDS-3 through:
“Emergency extension” led ON.
“Emergency extension” output active.
Active indication in the extinguishing information screen. If UDS-3 was not in standby state, but was
in activation state, emergency extension would also be signalled with pulsing sounder output (output
remains 0.5s OFF, 1s ON). If pre-release time was programmed, for each deactivation on the
“emergency extension” output that time would be reset.
Emergency interruption output active condition (Abort)
If present during standby or activation condition (in case of pre-release) UDS-3 can not activate
extinguishing output, that is it can’t get into release state (only pre-alarm output and directional valves are
activated).
This condition is indicated by:
“Emergency interruption” led ON.
Buzzer activation
“Extinguishing interruption” output active
Indication on extinguishing information screen (“INFO”, F2 and F3 function keys) that extinguishing
block has been activated
ALT label blinking on display’s main screen with red backlight.

Release condition
UDS-3 enters this condition when it gets a signal from flowmeter input or after pre-release period (if
programmed).
In this state, UDS-3 activates extinguishing output and manages release cycle, checking flowmeter and
manostat input.
This condition is indicated by:
“Release in progress” led ON
Sound (if UDS-3 went into this state on flowmeter signal)
Sounder output activated, always ON
Extinguishing signal common output ON.
GAS label visualization on display’s main screen with red backlight.
Indication on extinguishing information screen (“INFO”, F2 and F3 function keys) that extinguishing
block has been activated
Extinguishing fault condition
This condition is generated when a fault happens on one of the controlled inputs/outputs associated to an
extinguishing zone.
Zone faults are generated by abnormal conditions on transmission supports or on extinguishing
management. In case of zone fault, signalling happens this way:
Buzzer activation
“Extinguishing fault” led ON
General fault output activation
Fault type indication on extinguishing information screen (“INFO”, F2 and F3 function keys).
Transmission support faults are signalled by open circuit or short circuit faults and can block
extinguishing management. When manostat is active, without release condition active, UDS-3 enters
“Agent loss” fault condition and shows “Low Pressure” fault- In this condition “Extinguishing plant
Anomaly” output is activated. In case of activation with the above condition it will always be possible
to perform extinguishing cycle.
Only manual mode condition
This condition can be obtained through an activation command on the corresponding input on the terminal
board or programming with level 2 access.
In this condition UDS-3 manages only signal coming from manual activation input, other signals like pre-
activation/activation are ignored.
This mode is indicated by:
“Only Manual Mode” led ON
“Only Manual Mode” output activation;
Only manual mode indication on extinguishing information screen (“INFO”, F2 and F3 function keys).
Out of order condition
This condition is reached when at least one exclusion is present in a zone. It is possible to exclude for each
zone, the following elements:
Manual activation input
(means that extinguishing phases' activation is only possible with signals coming from pre-alarm
and alarm signals or from loop, an activation signal on manual input is ignored, while possible
faults on transmission supports are signalled).
Pre-alarm output
(means that pre-alarm output is not activated in case of “pre-active” condition)
Directional valve output
(means that directional valve output is not activated in case of “active” condition)
Extinguishing output
In this case it’s not possible to reach release phase from the following input devices:

In case of activation, extinguishing output is not operated, neither common output for release in
progress condition, but only sounder output.
Only whether an activation signal was present on the flowmeter input, UDS-3 gets into release
status, enabling also extinguishing outputs [UNI EN 12094-1 4.15.1].
If UDS-3 was in activation condition yet and extinguishing output was included, output would be
activated just only pre-release timing, if programmed.
Sounder output
This exclusion can be done just if extinguishing outputs were excluded. UDS-3 behaviour in
activation case is similar to the one described in the previous.
Zone
This exclusion disables the zone completely (INPUT/OUTPUT signals are not managed). UDS-3
behaviour in activation case is similar to the one described in the previous.
Out of order signalling is shown by:
“Exclusion” led ON
Excluded elements information on exclusion information screen (“INFO”, F2 and F3 function keys).
General fault condition
This condition is generated by general faults, power faults, and system faults. General faults activate the following
conditions:
Buzzer activation
“General fault” led activation
“General fault” output activation
Fault display in “General faults” screen (F4 function key on UDS)
N.B.
In case of program memory corruption error, “System Fault” led will enable and “General Fault” output will activate;
UDS-3 will get into safe mode, in which it will not be able to perform any operation.
