FEATURES

APPLICATION
The S7751A Hand Held Tool (HHT) is used with W7751A,C,E Excel 10 VAV 1 Controllers. (NOTE: The HHT phase 1 cannot
communicate with the phase 2 devices, such as; FCU, CVAHU, RIO and VAV 2. The HHT can be used to view or modify
points, setpoints or parameters, perform diagnostics, and balance Excel 10 controllers. In stand-alone applications (not used
in conjunction with Care/LiveCare), the HHT performs the application configuration (hardware inputs and outputs and
software points) and balancing.

BEFORE TESTING
Assumption:
It is assumed that the operator is familiar with the W7751 Controller capabilities, function and program points. Refer to the
Excel 10 VAV Box Controller System Engineering Guide, form 74-2968-1 for program point functions and descriptions.
NOTE: The E-Bus network terminator switch is ON for stand-alone controller operation or for calibration during a building
construction phase. The E-Bus network terminator switch isOFF for an active properly terminated E-Bus network.
IMPORTANT
Always activate the Hand Held Tool (HHT) power before connection to the E-Bus to prevent intermittent network
communications errors. The network automatically recovers after an error.
Testing Procedure
To begin using the HHT:
1. Turn the power switch to ON.
2. Using the part number 205979 SLTA Connector Cable, connect the RJ-45 male connector into the Network Cable Port
of the HHT and the other end of the cable (mini-phono plug) into the E-Bus Port on either an Excel 10 Controller or Wall
Module. On power up, the following message displays.

software is Version 1.0 1996. Future updates of software may be made available.

Hand Held Tool Keypad
The 25 key keypad provides a way to enter data, answer prompted questions, and move the cursor around on a screen or to
penetrate to new screens. Fig. 1 indicates the various key functions.

MENU DESCRIPTION
Main Overview
<Press Enter> as requested on the initial screen, this brings up the MAIN MENU display screen. This is the first operational
screen.

HHt Functions
The HHT screen displays only three menu items on the screen at one time. The menu items that are shown in light gray are
not initially shown when the screen is first displayed. The operator must use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll through the
list of menu items to view all items on the display screen.
NOTES: Any action between the HHT and the Excel 10 controllers requires that the Excel 10 controller node be selected using
the MAIN MENU, Select Excel 10.
The Operator Level must be set and the Password established using HHT Functions under the MAIN MENU.

Press the Enter key with the cursor on HHT Functions to bring up the following screen. The operator must use the Up/Down
Arrow keys to scroll through the list of menu items in order to view all items on the display screen.

Operator Level and Password
To gain entry to data access and data entry, an Operator Level and Password must be entered.
NOTE: The HHT defaults to the Level 1 operator level which does not require a password but allows display only access.
Use the Down/Up Arrow keys to scroll to the Change Authorization menu item and then press the Enter key to display the
CHANGE AUTHORIZATION level screen. See the CHANGE AUTHORIZATION level screen below.

in volatile memory so it is lost on power-down and returns to the default, level 1, on power-up.
To gain all levels of data access and data entry, enter Operator Level 4. The password can be any four digit number, but for
this example use the factory default of
4444
.
CAUTION
The level 4 configuration access security codes (password) must be changed from the factory default. This is done to
protect against network destruction by someone inadvertently modifying the configurations. Modifying the
configurations is for stand-alone applications only. Never use this feature in conjunction with CARE/LiveCARE
because collisions can occur when accessing points from the front end device and concurrently using the HHT. These
collisions will cause the destruction of the CARE database.
Enter a value of 4as the new operator level, the cursor drops down to Password?. Enter
4444
for the password and then
press the Enter key. If the password is correct for the operator level requested, the operator is returned to the MAIN MENU
screen.

IMPORTANT
When connecting to an Excel 10 VAV Controller, make certain that the front end device is not accessing points at the
same time that the HHT is or collisions can occur causing communications problems.
The first step after assigning the Operator Level is to select the Excel 10 to communicate with. Choose the Select Excel 10
from the MAIN MENU below.

Once the menu item Select Excel 10 is chosen then press the Enter key. This displays the screen below that gives the four
methods to select the Excel 10 controller.

NOTE: The operator must plug the HHT into a network access location (controller or wall module). All HHT functions other
than authorization, engineering unit selection and passwords will require communication with a controller. There is
no off-line configuration or database creation. Every operation is interactive. Anytime communication to a selected
controller is lost, the following error message is displayed Excel 10 does not respond. Pressing the Enter key
returns the display to the MAIN MENU.
Node Number ID
NOTE: The Node Number ID referred to in this document
is not
the same Node ID that is assigned to the controller through
the CARE commissioning tool. This Node Number ID is a reference number related to the HHT only. This number is
assigned through the HHT function menu and is accessed by selecting the Node Number ID function.
Select the Node Number ID menu item and then press the Enter key, the following screen appears which prompts the
operator for a two digit Node Number. See the NODE NUMBER screen below.

Enter a valid two digit node number for the desired device then press the Enter key.
Valid node numbers are 01 through 99. The speaker beeps if the device is not found and one of the two possible three line
messages displays.
1. If the node number entered was never assigned to an Excel 10, the display reads Node (XX) is not assigned, followed
by Press <enter>. Pressing the Enter key returns the display to the Select Excel 10 menu.
2. If the node number entered was assigned to an Excel 10 but communication could not be established the display reads
Node (XX) not responding, followed by Press <enter>. Pressing the Enter key returns the display to the Select Excel
10 menu. Pressing the Prev Menu key brings the operator out to the Select Excel 10 menu.

Neuron ID
Select the Neuron ID menu item and then press the Enter key. The following screen appears that prompts the operator to
enter a 12 character ID Number.

Enter the valid 12 character Neuron ID number for the desired device and then press the Enter key.
The speaker beeps if the device is not found and the display reads Neuron ID entered not found. Pressing the Enter key
returns the display to the Select Excel 10 menu.
Push Button ID
Select the Push Button ID menu item and then press the Enter key, this displays the following screen.

Upon entering this screen, the HHT broadcasts a service message telling all nodes to monitor their wall module pushbutton
and respond with the Neuron ID if the pushbutton is pressed (the controller times out after 60 seconds). The display blinks the
words Push Button. If no device responds before the controller times out, the speaker beeps and the following message
displays: Time-out followed by Press <Enter>. Pressing the Enter key returns the display to the Select Excel 10 menu.
Pressing the Abort key before the controller times out returns the display to the Select Excel 10 menu.
Stand Alone ID
Select the Stand Alone ID and then press the Enter key, this displays the following screen.

Upon entering this screen, the HHT broadcasts a query for all nodes. If only one node responds, the connection is made
otherwise after five seconds, the speaker beeps and the following message displays: Enter ID or use push button followed
by Press <enter>. Pressing the Enter key returns the display to the Select Excel 10 menu.

If any of the three methods (Node number, Neuron ID or Push button ID) are successful, the HHT verifies that the node is not
logged on (verifies that nv_in_use is 0) by any other network manager or tool. If the node is not in use, the HHT logs onto the
Excel 10 controller, the speaker beeps and the following message displays: Excel 10 Selected followed by Press <enter>.
Otherwise, the speaker beeps and the following message displays: Excel 10 busy followed by Press <enter>. Pressing the
Enter key returns the display to the Select Excel 10 menu.

Service Excel 10
I/O Points
The Service Excel 10 menu item allows the operator to display/modify I/O points, display controllers alarms, go into the
controller test mode to exercise hardware inputs/outputs, calibrate temperature sensors and display the controller type and
software version. All points are only read once. Press the Refresh key to read the point data and update the display.
Select the Service Excel 10 menu item from the Main Menu shown below.

display the current value of the points listed in the Logical Group. See Table 4.

Temp Setpoints
Select the Temp Setpoints menu item using the Up/Down Arrow keys and then press the Enter key. Under the Temp
Setpoints heading the operator is able to display/modify the current value of the points listed in the Temp Setpoints table
shown below, see Table 5.
This table shows that an operator must be logged on as a level 2 operator in order to modify the setpoint values. If the
operator has logged onto a level less than level 2, then the screen displays only the data and engineering units for that point
as shown in the previous screen view for the Room Temp.

has logged on as a level 2 operator, the following screen displays the setpoint value and engineering unit for the Occupied
Cool setpoint and prompts the operator for a new setpoint value.

The operator can either press the Prev Menu key to go back to the previous menu and use the Up/Down Arrow keys to
display a different setpoint or can enter a new setpoint value, for this point, and then press the Enter key to accept the new
value. When the Enter key is pressed, the HHT limits the ranges to the following:
Temperature setpoints:
50 through 90 °F (10 through 32.2 °C)
Heat/Cool Deadband:
0 through 10 °F (-17.8 through -12.2 °C)
The HHT enforces the following relationships (when the Enter key is pressed):
Setpoint Value range of 40 to 90 °F (4 to 32 °C)

NOTES: If a controller is configured for a wall module with a setpoint adjustment, the Occupied Heating and Cooling
Setpoints are disabled and the Heat/Cool Deadband is enabled. The Standby Heating and Cooling Setpoints are
Used at this Point to also calculate Heating and Cooling Setpoint Limits.
If a controller has no wall module setpoint adjustment configured, the Occupied Heating and Cooling Setpoints are
enabled and the Heat/Cool Deadband is disabled.
If a controller is configured to share a wall module that is wired to another controller, all temperature setpoints are
disabled.
If a controller is configured for pressure independent flow tracking, all temperature setpoints and flow setpoints are
disabled.
The HHT will not prevent the operator from entering values into disabled setpoints but the controller will ignore them.
The operator can either press the Prev Menu key to go back to the previous menu and display another setpoint or press the
Prev Menu key twice to go back to the I/O POINTS menu.
Diagnostic Points
Select the Diagnostic Points menu item using the Up/Down Arrow keys and then press the Enter key. Under the
Diagnostic Points heading the operator is able to display the current value of the points listed in the Diagnostic Points
table
shown below, see Table 6. These points are display only and can be displayed at any operator level.

Commandable Points heading the operator is able to display the current value or state of the points listed in the
Commandable Points
table shown below, see Table 7. This table shows that the operator has to be logged on as a level 3
operator in order to modify the values/states. If the operator is logged onto a level less than a level 3, then the screen displays
only the value and engineering unit (as shown in a previous screen view for the Room Temp) or the state (as shown in the
previous screen view for the Scheduled Occupancy).

test mode to exercise hardware inputs/outputs, calibrate temperature sensors and display the controller type and software

Alarm Log
Select the Alarm Log menu item under the ALARMS menu and then press the Enter key. The ALARM LOG displays the five
most recent alarms with the most recent alarm on top. Each alarm that has returned to normal is preceded by the word Rtn:.
Press the Refresh key to refresh the ALARM LOG display. The operator uses the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll down to
display the rest of the alarms in the ALARM LOG list (if more than 3 alarms exist). The following is an example of the

Test Mode
The test mode allows the operator to put the Excel 10 controller into a mode which allows the control of the outputs directly to
either determine the controller worthiness without full configuration or for checkout/diagnostics after configuration.
NOTES: If the hardware test of the Excel 10 controller was initiated with a clip or jumper, then the HHT will not be able to
command the outputs through the Test Mode.
When exiting the Test Mode, the Excel 10 controller will go through the startup wait mode.
For the operator to choose the Test Mode menu item the Service Excel 10 menu item must be selected from the MAIN
MENU. From the SERVICE EXCEL 10
menu, select the Test Mode menu item and then press the Enter key. The HHT
displays the following screen containing four sub-menu items.

From this screen the operator enters a New Position: (from 0.0 through 100.0 percent) for the damper and then presses the
Enter key to accept the value. When commanding the position of the damper use this value. To select the damper direction,
press the Prev Menu key which displays the DAMPER menu screen. Select the Direction menu item and then press the
Enter key which displays the following screen.

The operator can select either the Open or Close menu item and then press the Enter key to command the damper to open
or close to the percentage that was entered in the previous step. For example, to verify that the damper travels in the correct
direction, the operator commands the damper in the Open direction and then verifies that the damper is traveling in the
correct direction. Next select the Stop menu item to stop the damper movement (de-energize) and then select the Close
menu item which commands the damper in the close direction. Verify that the damper is traveling in the correct direction.
The operator has to press the Prev Menu key to go back to the TEST MODE Main Menu screen to exercise the other outputs.
Upon leaving this menu, the HHT resynchs the damper and flashes the message Resynching Damper in the following
