GENERAL
WARNING
This equipment generates, uses and can radiate
radio frequency energy, and if not installed and
used in accordance with the Instructions Manual,
may cause interference with radio communication.
It has been tested and found to comply with the
limits for a Class A computing device pursuant to
Subpart J of Part 15 or FCC Rules, which are
designed to provide reasonable protection against
such interference when operated in a commercial
environment. Operation of this equipment in a
residential area is likely to cause interference, in
which case, users at their own expense will be
required to take whatever measures may be
required to correct the interference. Any
unauthorized modification of this equipment may
result in the revocation of the owner's authority to
continue its operation.
GENERAL
The Q7055C series Honeywell Meter Point Connect (MPC)
provides connection to sub-metering devices via M-Bus level
converter using MeterBus Protocol. The Meter Point
communicates to EBI-Central over an industry standard 10/
100BaseT Ethernet LAN. It delivers exceptional price/
performance to meet the requirements of both building owners
and service providers. The Meter Point communicates to sub-
metering devices via a M-Bus level converter using M-Bus
standards: EN13757-3 and EN1434-3. With its combination of
scalable performance, density, and low per-port pricing, the
MPC allows network layer capabilities to be extended to a
much wider range of network configurations and
environments. Customers can now gain the advantages of
high-performance network and services, including traffic
management, to more locations throughout the network. The
Q7055C MPC-Model M1 provides a single RS-485 DC
coupled M-Bus-compatible communication channel for
submetering devices.
M-Bus compatible sub-metering devices support baud-rates
from 300 bps to 19200 bps. The Q7055C MPC-Model M2
provides two RS-485 DC coupled M-Bus-compatible
communication channels for submetering devices.

The MPC uses the LAN connection to provide a seamless
communication to the requesting device. Status information,
like LAN communication activity, field bus traffic
communication and system heartbeat of the MPC is indicated
by LEDs on the device front.

Accessories
Honeywell Meter Point Connect devices provide RS485 signal
interface for bus connection(s), and require use of level
converter device(s) for conversion of RS485 levels to M-Bus
voltage levels for connection to meters. Following level
converters have been tested for use with MPC devices:

In order to connect more meters to an M-Bus port than
supported by a single converter device, additional M-Bus
converter(s) can be connected to the RS485 M-Bus on M1 or
M2 devices in parallel with the existing converter. Only the
converters that directly convert between RS-485 and M-Bus
(and do not use an intermediate RS232 type connection) can
be connected in this manner. The end-of-line (EOL)
terminations and biasing for each device connected to the
RS485 M-Bus (CH1 or CH2) as well as the port switch
settings for MPC should be set in accordance with location of
each device on the bus.

BEFORE INSTALLATION
Perform the following steps prior to installing the MPC device:
1. Verify that the product has been received without dam-
age.
2. Verify that the correct MPC device has been delivered.
3. Check the package contents. The following items are
included in each product package:
— Honeywell Meter Point Connect device.
— 50017367-001 or Model 3A-181WP24, P/N
EMS240075-P5P-SZ Power Supply or SMI18-24-V-P5
Power Supply.
— Honeywell Meter Point Connect Installation Instruc-
tions.
— Bag of installation materials as follows: one 3-pole
Phoenix power connector, and one or two Phoenix
controller bus channel connectors.
4. Read the Connections section carefully prior to connect-
ing power, ground and data interface cables to the MPC.
5. Refer to the installation instructions for each component
connected to the MPC.

CAUTION
Shock Hazard. Removal of the MPC cover can
result in electrical shock
Do not remove cover. There are no user serviceable
parts inside.
Location and Mounting
The MPC device is intended for installation only indoors in a
dry location. It can be mounted in several ways; as a single
device, up to three stacked devices, or wall/cabinet mounted.
Single Device
The following illustration shows the single MPC device
operating position; for example, on a desk (see Fig 2).

Stacked Devices
MPC devices may also be stacked. Because of stability
issues, it is recommended not to stack more than three
devices (see Fig 3).
NOTE: There are cooling slots on the top and bottom of
the MPC housing.

Wall Mounting
It is also possible to mount the MPC device to a wall using the
optional 50008533-001/U Wall Hanging Accessories Kit. The
following sequence describes how the device should be
prepared prior to mounting it on a wall (see Fig 4).

CONNECTIONS
This section describes how to connect power and the field bus
to the MPC device. A supply pack with installation material
containing the required connectors for power and the field bus
is shipped with the device.
Power Connection
The MPC device requires a UL 864 listed external power
supply with the following specifications: 24 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz,
or 24 VDC.
Typical power supplies include:
CUI Model EMSA240075-P5P-SZ 120/240 Vac, 50/60 Hz
input, 24 Vdc, 0.75 A output, Class 2.
50/60 Hz input, 24 Vdc, 0.75 A output, Class 2, or CUI Model
SMI18-24-V-P5, 120/ 240 Vac, 50/60 Hz input, 24 Vdc, 0.8 A
output, Class 2 (included).
For the power connection, the 3-pole Phoenix connector is
required (included).
Wire the power cable as follows:
Preparation
If the power adapter cable contains a barrel connector, then
cut off the original connector at the end of the cable. Strip the
two cable ends to expose 3/8" (10 mm) conductor length and
twist the cable strands. If the power adapter contains screw
terminals, then wire a cable to the 24 V and GND terminals on
the power supply. If the power adapter cable contains ferrules
installed on them, then the ferrule pins can be terminated
directly into the device power connector as described below.
Termination
1. Insert the two cable ends into the left two openings of
the 3-pole Phoenix connectors that are marked for
power.
2. Fasten them with a small screwdriver.
3. Connect a chassis ground to the third position on
this connector as marked.
NOTE: The polarity (+/-) of the 3-pole Phoenix power
connector for DC power supplies is don't care.
Field Bus Connection (Ch1/Ch2)
The 2-pole Phoenix connectors (included) are required for
connecting the field bus. Field bus connection can be
configured only as class B/style 4. All field wiring is
supervised.
Level Converter Connections and
Powering
For connecting RS485 level converters to MPC devices,
observe the polarity of the converter devices to connect the
(+) and (-) wires to like terminals. Follow the installation
instructions accompanying the level converter devices for
connections and powering of those devices.
For connecting the RS232 cables between level converters
and to power them, follow the instructions accompanying each
device when connecting to it.
Place the MPC with the topside
down on the desk.
Remove the four feet from the bottom of
the MPC by pushing horizontally away from
the housing with a flat screwdriver.
Push the four inserts (included in optional
50008533-001/U Wall Hanging Accessories
Kit) fully and horizontally into the housing.
Adjust the four retaining clips (included in
optional 50008533-001/U Wall Hanging
Accessories Kit) on top of the inserts.
Fasten the retaining clips with the
included four screws.
Use the housing with the clips to mark the
positions of the four mounting holes on the
wall surface. Drill 1/8 in. (3 mm) holes for
the mounting screws (not included -
supplied locally) and fix the MPC device.

CABLES AND CONNECTORS
DB9F Null Modem Connector
Fig. 5 illustrates a serial connector for the field bus. Fig. 6
shows how to configure a Null Modem Cable DB9F.

RJ-45 LAN Connector
The MPC provides a standard RJ-45 connector for 10/
100BaseT Ethernet LAN connection. This section describes
the pin layout for the RJ-45 connector. Most Ethernet local
area networks use twisted pair wiring. 10/100BaseT networks
are physically laid out in a star topology, where each piece of
equipment on the network is connected to a central switch.
The wiring is connected to devices using a plug that
resembles a phone jack called RJ-45. See Table 2 on page 5
for details.
Connect MPC to Switch
To connect a MPC device to a LAN via an Ethernet Switch, the
required cable should be configured as shown in Fig. 8.

Connect MPC to Workstation
When a MPC needs a direct connection to a workstation
without using an Ethernet Switch, a crossover cable is
required. Fig. 9 shows how the different signals should be
connected.

COMMISSIONING
Finish the installation by commissioning the MPC in
accordance with form no. 39-00003, Q7055C Honeywell
Meter Point Connect MPC-Model M1/Model M2 Checkout &
Test.
OPERATION
Location of Parts and Controls
Refer to Figure 11 and the following descriptions for the
location and function of parts and controls.

1—RESET
Hardware reset button. Located directly behind the small hole
in the front panel. To reach this button, a pointed object like a
sharp pen or an unfolded paper clip is necessary. Pressing
this button resets the MPC device immediately. This operation
is similar to applying power to the MPC device. The sequence
of operations following the RESET is similar to Power on MPC
device.
2—POWER
Power indicator. This LED lights up when power is connected
to the MPC device.
3—HEARTBEAT
System Heartbeat display consists of two LEDs, one Red and
one Green. During MPC system startup when Bootstrap is
running, both LEDs flash continuously. When MPC Bootloader
starts to run, the Red LED starts to flash. When the
application firmware begins to run, the Green LED starts
flashing.
4—CH1
Bus Channel 1 activity display. This display contains two
green LEDs; one showing the MPC receive activity (Rx), and
the other showing the MPC transmit activity (Tx).
5—CH2
Bus Channel 2 activity display. This display contains two
green LEDs; one showing the MPC receive activity (Rx), and
the other showing the MPC transmit activity (Tx).
NOTE: Ch2 indication is only available on two channel
devices. It is not available on the MPC-Model M1.
6—MODE
Mode switch button. This button is used to change the
operating modes. For a detailed description about MPC
operation modes, refer to the Operating Modes section of form
no. 39-00003, Q7055C Honeywell Meter Point Connect MPC-
Model M1/Model M2 Configuration, Checkout & Test Guide.
7—LAN
Local Area Network (LAN) activity display. Shows the actual
LAN traffic status using three LEDs:
—10LNK. Ethernet speed of 10 mbps indicator (Green). If
this LED is lit, then the Ethernet link is operating at 10
mbps.
—100LNK. Ethernet speed of 100 mbps indicator (Green). If
this LED is lit, then the Ethernet link is operating at 100
mbps.
—Activity. Link activity indicator (Green) will blink if there is
any activity (transmission/reception) on the LAN.

9—CH1/CH2 BUS TERMINATION SWITCHES
These switches are used to select field bus termination and
biasing. For a detailed description of the bus termination
switch positions, refer to the Bus Termination Switch section of
form no.39-00003, Q7055C Honeywell Meter Point Connect
MPC-Model M1/Model M2 Configuration, Checkout & Test
Guide.
NOTE: The Bus Termination Switch option near the Ch2
field bus connector is only available on MPC-
Model M2 two-channel devices. It is not available
on the MPC-Model M1.
10—CH1
2-pin connector for field bus channel 1 connection, electrically
isolated, meets EMC and FCC requirements. Field Bus wiring
is described in the Field Bus Connection (Ch1/Ch2) section.
11—AC/DC IN 24V
Power connector for 24 VAC (50 Hz to 60 Hz) or 24 VDC
power supplies and chassis ground . An external power
supply is required. See the Power Connection section of this
document for details.
12—RS-232
9-pin SUB-D male RS-232 connector, electrically isolated, PC
pin compatible, protected against spikes. This interface is
used for initial device setup and requires a standard Null-
Modem cable when interfacing to a PC.
13—10/100BASET
10/100BaseT RJ-45 Ethernet LAN-connector, meets the
requirements of ANSI/TIA/EIA 586 Category 5, for unshielded
twisted pair connections.
