Application
With the Hometronic* HRD 20 remote control you can:
•Switch devices on and off or dim lights
•Control shutters/awnings
•Increase or decrease the setpoint temperature* of a room
•Activate Lifestyles*
It is possible to use any number of remote controls in one Hometronic
system.
The remote control can be disabled by means of a simple button
combination (child-proofing).
The buttons can be assigned freely and can be changed at any time.
These instructions provide information on how to assign the buttons and
how to use the remote control.

1. Notating the button assignment
►Decide which Hometronic component is to be controlled by which
button.
►Note the assignment on the enclosed table label.
2. Change to the "Installation" submenu
►If the Hometronic is in manual mode*, press the button for
automatic/manual mode in order to change to automatic mode.
The yellow LED at the Hometronic Manager* lights up.
The display* shows the standard display
(example):

The cursor* flashes in the lowest line.

3. Activating the Teach-in mode at the Hometronic Manager
The new Hometronic components first have to be assigned to the
Hometronic Manager before they can be taken into operation. This
process is called the "Teach-in". The Hometronic Manager and the new
components exchange data during the procedure.
Note: In the following example button 1 is assigned to a ceiling light in the
kitchen.
►Press the dial button.
The following text is displayed:

later, turn the dial button further until the

►Select "Devices/Light" and press the dial
button.
The names of the dimmers/switches
are displayed, for example:

If "I" is displayed after a module name, this module has already
been assigned to the Hometronic Manager. The process of
assigning or changing module names is described in the operating
instructions of the Hometronic Manager.
►Select the corresponding module, in this
case "Ceiling light", and press the dial
button.

The red LED for Manual mode at the Hometronic Manager lights up
bright. The Teach-in mode is active.
The Hometronic Manager is ready to transmit data via the red LED during
the next 8 minutes. Afterwards the LED on the Hometronic Manager goes
off.

4. Assigning buttons
►Press button 1 of the remote control until the LED flashes red-green.
The remote control is ready for the Teach-in for 15 seconds.
►Move the front of the remote
control across the lit-up LED
of the Hometronic Manager.
The remote control and the
Hometronic Manager exchange
data. The procedure only takes
a moment.

Note: The procedure should not be carried out under direct sunlight. If
necessary, darken the room.

Successful Teach-in
The Teach-in is successful when the LED of the remote control shines
green (for approx. 5 seconds).
The kitchen lamp can now be controlled with button 1 (refer to the
chapter: "Controlling the Hometronic with the remote control").
►Enter the button assignment in the assignment table.
Failed Teach-in
The Teach-in has failed when the LED of the remote control shines red
after 15 seconds.
►Repeat the Teach-in.
Repeating the Teach-in
►Press the dial button in order to activate
the Teach-in again.

The module is activated again for Teach-in.

►Select the component in accordance with your table (Step 1).
►Switch to the "Installation" submenu (Step 2).
►Activate the Teach-in for the desired component or the Lifestyle
(Step 3).
►Assign the button of the remote control (Step 4).
►Fasten the assignment table to the bottom of the remote control.
Changing the button assignment
Note: You can change the assignment of individual buttons at any time.
Proceed as described in the section "Assigning further buttons".

Controlling the Hometronic with the remote control
After the buttons have been assigned you use the remote control to
control the Hometronic. Observe the following principle:
In order to select a component or a Lifestyle, press one of the selection
buttons 1-6, A or B: The LED lights up green.
In order to control a component, press the control buttons ▼/▲or
confirm the Lifestyle by pressing the OK button: The LED flashes and
then displays green again.
The selected component remains active until the LED extinguishes
(approx. 15 seconds) or another component is selected.
Note: If the Hometronic is operating in automatic mode, the changes with
the remote control may only be retained until the next switching point.
Example button assignment
The following explanation assumes that the buttons have a typical
assignment:
Button 1 Control the ceiling lamp in the living room
Button 2 Control the shutters of the living room
Button 3 Control the setpoint temperature of the living room
Button 4 Activate the "Evening" Lifestyle

Switching the ceiling lamp on or off
►Press button 1.
The LED lights up green.
►Press the ▲button briefly.
The LED flashes. The ceiling lamp is switched on.
►Press the ▼button briefly.
The ceiling lamp is switched off.
Dimming the ceiling lamp
►Press button 1.
The LED lights up green.
►Keep the ▲button or ▼button pressed.
►Release the ▲button or ▼button when the desired brightness has
been reached.

Controlling the shutters button 2
Opening and closing the shutters completely
►Press button 2.
The LED lights up green.
►Press the ▼button briefly.
The shutter closes completely.
►Press the ▲button briefly.
The shutter opens completely.
►If you want to stop the shutters completely, press OK
The shutter stops.
Positioning the shutters individually
►Press button 2.
The LED lights up green.
►Keep the ▲button or ▼button pressed.
►Release the ▲button or ▼button when the desired position has been
reached.

Raising and lowering the setpoint temperature button 3
Note: The setpoint temperature cannot be adjusted smoothly. The
temperature jump* is preset to 2 °C at the Hometronic Manager.
Example
If the setpoint temperature amounts 20 °C, it can be lowered or raised to
18 or 22 °C.
Lowering the temperature
The setpoint temperature amounts to 20 °C
►Press button 3, then press the ▼button.
The setpoint temperature amounts to 18 °C.
Note: Every further ▼-press will not lower the setpoint temperature.
Increasing the temperature (again)
The setpoint temperature has been lowered to 18 °C with the remote
control.
►Press button 3, then press the ▲button.
The setpoint temperature amounts to 20 °C (again).
►Press the ▲button again.
The setpoint temperature amounts to 22 °C.
Note: Every further ▲-press will not increase the setpoint temperature.

Establishing the setpoint temperature
The setpoint temperature of a room is controlled in automatic mode by
the Hometronic Manager. If you want to return to this setpoint
temperature:
►Press button 3.
►Press OK.
The setpoint temperature is set to the value of the Hometronic
Manager (in our example 20 °C).
Note: For information on how to change the temperature jump of 2 °C
(max. of 8 °C) please refer to the chapter "Parameters: Changing the
remote offset" in the "Hometronic Manager operating instructions".
Activating the "Evening" Lifestyle button A
►Press button A briefly.
►Press OK.
The "Evening" Lifestyle is activated.

Remote control without the Hometronic Manager
You can control components with the Hometronic remote control even if
you have not installed a Hometronic Manager (exception: radiator and
storey controller).
The buttons can have the following assignments:
•Buttons 1–3 and Adimmers and devices
•Buttons 4–6 and Bshutters
Hometronic components must first be assigned to the remote control
before they can be controlled. This process is called the "Teach-in".
►Decide which component is to be controlled by which button.
►Note the assignment on the enclosed table label.
►Activate the Teach-in mode as described in the instructions for the radio
components.
►Press the desired selection button.
►Press OK until the LED flashes green.
Note: You can change the assignment of individual buttons at any time.
After the Teach-in has been completed successfully, you can control the
components with the remote control as described from page 10.

Activating the child-proofing
The remote control can be disabled by means of a simple button
combination.
Disabling the remote control
►Press the buttons ▲,▼and OK simultaneously.
The remote control is disabled.
►Check whether it is disabled by pressing any button.
The LED flashes red until the button is pressed.
Enabling the remote control
►Press the buttons ▲,▼and OK simultaneously again.
The remote control can be used again.
Note: Removing the battery disables the child-proofing.

Replacing the batteries
Replace the batteries as soon as the LED of the remote control shows
red or does not light up when a selection button is pressed (exception:
remote control is disabled, the LED flashes red).
Replacing the batteries
►Open the battery compartment at the bottom of the remote control.
►Remove the batteries and dispose of them in a manner which does not
damage the environment.
Note: Always replace both batteries.
Only use the following battery types:
•Micro batteries*: Alkali manganese LR03 (durability approx. 2 years)
or:
•1.5 V rechargeable: LR03 (durability approx. ¾ year)
Caution
Ensure that the batteries are poled correctly!
The batteries may discharge.
►Ensure that the batteries are poled correctly when inserting them into
the battery compartment.
►Close the battery compartment.
The remote control can be used again.
