Introduction
The Honeywell HCD544 Day/Night Color Camera (HCD544)
is designed for general surveillance applications and is
ideally suited for low-light indoor environments. An intuitive
menu and Graphical User Interface (GUI) helps you quickly
set up the camera to ensure the best picture quality for your
unique environment. It requires little or no adjustment after
initial installation.
Features
• High resolution 540 TVL 1/3” CCD provides crisp, clear
images, even in low-light conditions
• Minimum illumination of 0.5 lux color/0.25 lux black/
white @ 50 IRE, f1.2
• Automatic day/night switching with adjustable threshold
level control
• 12 VDC or 24 VAC operation
Before You Begin
Please read this guide carefully before you install the
HCD544 camera.
Unpacking Everything
Check that the items received match those listed on the
order form and packing slip. The HCD544 packing box
should include, in addition to this user guide, one HCD544
camera, and an accessory package (5-pin power and LAMP
connector and a lens connector).
If any parts are missing or damaged, contact the dealer you
purchased the camera from or call Honeywell Customer
Service (see the back of this guide for contact information).
Note You will also require a Phillips screwdriver and a
flathead screwdriver to complete the installation.

Installation
Installing the Lens
The HCD544 camera is factory configured for a CS-mount
lens. Figure 1 demonstrates how to attach a customer
supplied lens. Screw the lens !into the front of the camera
body ". An IR corrected Day/Night lens is recommended
for this camera.

Connecting the Camera
Note Check the power source from the external power
supply before applying power to the camera.
1. Connect the VIDEO connector on the rear of the camera
to the video-in connector on your monitor.
2. Connect the camera to a 12 VDC or 24 VAC power
supply (appropriate to your installation). Use a
screwdriver to first loosen the ~AC24V/DC12V terminal
screws on the terminal block.

Note To ease installation, the terminal block can be
removed. The power connections of the removable
terminal block are not polarity-sensitive. Connect
either power lead to either connector terminal.
3. Secure the power leads by retightening the terminal
screws until snug.
4. Plug the power supply into an appropriate power
source. The power LED illuminates to show that the
camera is receiving power. If it does not illuminate,
check the removable terminal block connections and
the power source.

Connecting LAMP Contact
The HCD544 camera is equipped with LAMP and GND
external contact terminals. When the LAMP terminal is
connected to the GND terminal, the camera is forced into
night mode (see page 15). It stays in night mode until the
LAMP terminal is disconnected from the GND terminal.

Adjusting The Back Focus
To adjust the back focus, aim the camera towards a darker
area, or use a Neutral Density lens filter. For best results,
there should be a minimum of 15 ft (4.5 m) between the
camera and the target focal area.
1. Loosen the setscrews with a Phillips screwdriver.
2. Set the Zoom lens adjustment to Wide and the Focus
lens adjustment to Near.
3. Adjust the back focus ring to focus the picture.
4. Retighten the setscrews.

Mounting the Camera
Mounting points are provided on the top and bottom of the
camera and are used to mount the camera on a bracket or
tripod. They are designed to accept standard sized
mounting bolts. The mounting bracket must be capable of
supporting the weight of the camera and its lens.
Caution Some installation codes dictate that the
mounting bracket must be capable of
supporting up to four times the combined weight
of the camera and lens.
Making Final Adjustments
Adjust the focus for your desired field of view; that is, until
you see a clear image. If necessary, adjust the brightness
using the OSD menu controls (see LENS on page 13 or AGC
(Automatic Gain Control) on page 13). Confirm the exposure
on the monitor screen.

SETUP Menu Functions
Menu Item Description
1LENS Selects Lens type. Options:
DC = Automatic Iris lens. Press ENTER with DC
selected to adjust the brightness level.
MANUAL = Fixed lens
2SHUTTER Adjusts shutter settings. Options:
FLK = Flickerless mode reduces on-screen
flickering.
MANUAL = Adjusts the shutter speed from 1/60-
1/100,000 of a second (NTSC), or
1/50-1/100,000 of a second (PAL).
ESC = Electronic Shutter Control. Press ENTER
to adjust the brightness level. Not available with
DC lens.
3WHITE BAL.
(White
Balance)
Controls color on the screen. Press ENTER with
ATW selected to change the mode. Options:
ATW = Select Auto Tracking White Balance
when the color temperature is 2500°K~8000°K
(for example when under a fluorescent light, or
outdoors).
AWC PUSH = Automatically adjust the white
balance to your specific environment. When
selected, the white balance is locked.
AWC AUTO = A faster AWB mode with a wider
operating range.
USER = Adjust the red or blue gain (0~255).
MANUAL = Increase or decrease the red or blue
gain on screen.
4BACKLIGHT Control the light level to overcome severe
backlighting conditions.
5AGC
(Automatic
Gain
Control)
Adjusts value of AGC gain. Options:
18 dB~30 dB = Increase the gain level (in 2 dB
increments) to brighten the picture in low light
conditions. Noise/distortion may develop.
OFF = DAY&NIGHT mode must be OFF to turn
AGC OFF.
6SPECIAL .. Opens the SPECIAL menu (see SPECIAL Menu).
7EXIT MENU Exits the OSD; returns to video monitoring.

Menu Item Description
1CAMERA ID Sets a camera ID to be displayed on the
monitor. See Adding a Camera ID Display.
Options:
ON = Display a camera ID.
OFF = No ID displays.
2DAY&NIGHT Sets the Day/Night mode. See Programming
Day and Night Modes. Options:
AUTO = Depending on the light level, the
camera automatically switches to night mode.
ON = The camera is forced into night mode at
all times.
OFF = The camera never switches to night
mode regardless of the light level unless the
LAMP connector is used to control the switch
over mechanism.
Note Must be set to OFF before AGC can be
set to OFF. Day&Night should be in OFF
mode when using the external LAMP
connector to control the Day/Night switch
over mechanism.
3PRIVACY Masks certain areas of the screen from
observation. Options:
ON = Allows you to set a privacy zone. See
Setting A Privacy Zone.
OFF = No privacy zones are set.
4MIRROR Produces a horizontal mirror image on screen.
Options:
ON = A horizontal mirror image appears on
screen.
OFF = No mirror image
5SHARPNESS Sharpens the image on screen. Options:
0~15 = Adjusts the sharpness level. Excessive
sharpening may cause picture noise.
0= OFF

Adding a Camera ID Display
You may assign a Camera ID to be displayed on the
monitor. To add an ID:
1. On the SPECIAL menu, select CAMERA ID and then
press ENTER.

2. Press the menu control UP, DOWN, LEFT, or RIGHT to
select a character or number—selected character is
blinking— then press ENTER to accept it. The character
is saved and the cursor moves to the next position.
3. Repeat step 2 until your ID is complete.
4. Select POS to position where you would like the ID to
be located on screen. Select the position using the
menu control, then press ENTER to confirm the
position.

Programming Day and Night Modes
This screen allows you to set how the camera reacts to
changes in illumination and when the camera switches
between Day and Night modes.
Note Figure 9 shows the default settings.

BW = Black and white (no color burst)
COLOR = Color

Setting A Privacy Zone
Set an area of the screen for privacy mode; that is, the
camera does not display video from this area.

Saving Settings
Be sure to save your settings when you exit the SETUP
