BALANCE BEAM
Set Up
1. Place the base on a level surface. Carefully place the balance beam, pan hanger, and pan as
shown. Place both counterweights in the “0” position.
2. Ensure the balance beam pivots freely. The magnetic damper will minimize oscillation.
3. Adjust the leveling foot until the beam pointer indicates zero. Do NOT adjust the balancing
nuts; they were pre-set at the Hornady factory and should not require adjustment.
Weighing
1. Ensure the counterweights are at zero and the pointer indicates zero.
2. Place an item to weigh in the pan. The pointer will rise.
3. Adjust the large counterweight (5 grain increments) until the pointer drops below zero.
Then move it back one notch.
4. Adjust the small counterweight (0.1 grain increments) until the pointer indicates zero.
5. Add the two numbers together for the final weight (i.e. 85+4.2=89.2).

WARNING: The counterweights must be fully seated in the detent grooves to ensure accurate results.
Scale Care
1. Keep the scale clean, especially the bearing surfaces and damper slot. Particulate in
these areas will reduce performance. The magnetic dampening slot may attract metallic
particles, which must be removed.
2. Handle the balance beam carefully. Avoid damaging the sharp edge on the pivot pins.
Remove the balance beam from the base for prolonged storage to protect the pivot pins.
3. Do not modify any part of the scale, as it may change the accuracy.
Warranty
All Hornady reloading tools and accessories are warranted against material defects and
workmanship for the life of the product
If the product is deemed defective by either workmanship or materials, the reloading tool
or accessory will either be repaired, reconditioned or replaced (at Hornady Manufacturing
Company’s option).
Parts, which by the nature of their function are subject to normal wear such as springs, pins,
etc., and parts which have been altered abused or neglected, are excluded from the warranty.
