1 Preparing for Installation
1.1 Audience
This guide is intended for HP service representatives and other persons trained to install hardware
options in HP 10000 series racks. Such persons are expected to understand the hazards of working
in this environment and to take suitable precautions to minimize danger to themselves and
others.

1.3 Kit Description
The HP DL1000 series cable management kit described in this manual is designed to align and
support the InfiniBand cables that lead from the server to another InfiniBand switch in the rack
or to an adjacent rack. The kit provides strain relief for the cables connected to the individual
InfiniBand connector ports and ensures a good connection. It also ensures the correct bend radius
for the InfiniBand cable and provides channels for cable routing and cable management. One
cable management kit is required for each HP ProLiant DL4x170h G6 server.
NOTE: The cable management kit is designed to support 24 AWG (0.41 inch) diameter, 26 AWG
(0.37 inch) diameter, and 28 AWG (0.33 inch) diameter InfiniBand cables. Consult the
documentation supplied with your cluster before installing the brackets and routing the cables.
1.4 Kit Contents
Verify that the cable management bracket kit contains the following components:
• Packaging and documentation.
• Four 3.5-inch Velcro straps
• The bracket hardware shown in Figure 1-1.

To prevent screws from becoming loose because of vibration, HP recommends that you use
an adjustable torque drive, set to the torque specifications given in the table above. Contact
your HP sales representative if any parts are missing.
Note:
This cable management bracket might also be adaptable for other cable management solutions
(consult your hardware installation documentation).
1.5 Required Resources
To install the HP cable management kit, you require the following resources:
• Tools:
— Screwdriver, #2 (medium) Phillips
— Cage-nut insertion tool (shipped with the rack)
— Marker pen or masking tape
• Other resources: InfiniBand cables (not included in this kit)

1.6 Prerequisites
Before you begin to mount the bracket:
•Follow the usual cable-handling precautions for InfiniBand cables, see the HP Cluster Platform
InfiniBand Interconnect Installation and User's Guide.
•Ensure that you know how to plug in the InfiniBand cables, as described in the documentation
that came with your InfiniBand device.
• Obtain the set of cabling tables required for your HP Cluster Platform solution.

2 Installing the Cable Management Kit
The location of the cable management kit depends on the rack position occupied by the server
chassis. Align each bracket with the InfiniBand connector ports on the server so that the bracket's
mounting flange is level with the InfiniBand ports.
2.1 Installing the Cable Management Kit
To install the cable management kit, follow these steps:
1. Identify and mark the two holes in the rack's rear mounting rails (callouts 1 and 3 in
Figure 2-1) and clip the 10-32 cage nuts (callout 4 in Figure 2-1) into the square holes.
2. Fasten the top and bottom brackets (callouts 2 and 6 in Figure 2-1) using the four 10-32
screws (callout 5 in Figure 2-1).

2.2 Securing the InfiniBand Cables
After installing the cable management brackets (callouts 1 and 2 in Figure 2-2) you must install
the Infiniband cables. Once the InfiniBand cables (callout 3 in Figure 2-2) are installed, you can
secure them to the cable management brackets using the 3.5-inch Velcro straps (see detailed view
in Figure 2-2).

Properly installed, this cable management kit provides the necessary strain relief for the InfiniBand
connections and maintains a minimum 4-inch bend radius for the InfiniBand cables.
