Intended audience
These release notes are intended for customers who purchased HAFM. HAFM 08.08.00
applies to the 1U rack-mount appliance only and cannot be installed on the notebook
server.

CD-ROM directory structure
The HAFM software kit includes two CDs; the HP StorageWorks ha-fabric manager
software CD (part number 516-000008-002, Rev A) and the HP StorageWorks ha-fabric
manager clients CD (part number 516-000009-002, Rev A), which contains the files
necessary to install HAFM.

HAFM software version 08.08.00
The HAFM appliance has the latest version of the HAFM software preinstalled. It is
also contained on the HP StorageWorks ha-fabric manager software CD (Part Number
516-000008-002, Rev A). HAFM 08.08.00 applies to the 1U rack-mount appliance
onlyandcannotbei
nstalled on the notebook server.
All remote clients running down-level versions of HAFM are required to reinstall the client
application. You must exit HAFM before installing the latest version of HAFM. When
logging in to the HAFM appliance via the remote client, an error message is displayed
stating that the new version must be installed. Follow the instructions to install the new
version of the remote client.
Upgrading to HAFM 08.08.00 issues
The password for the Administrator must be reset to password before upgrading. If
this is not performed before upgrading, the HAFM appliance may stop immediately
after starting it.
Upgrading to HAFM 08.08.00 from 08.02.00 requires HAFM Services to be stopped
manually.
The password for HAFM Administrator does not migrate from HAFM 07.xx.xx to HAFM
08.08.00. The password is reset to the default value password in HAFM 08.08.00.
Call Home configuration is not migrated from HAFM 08.02.00 to HAFM 08.08.00
during upgrade. The Call Home information must be configured again after the upgrade.
Configuration information for switches that are not being managed locally are not
included in the upgrade.
Firmware files are included in the upgrade process, but release rules are not. Since
release rules are required when sending another firmware version to a switch, an error
results. To avoid this problem, add the latest firmware file to the firmware library. This
also adds the new release rules and resolves the problem.
HAFM 07.02.00 is not removed after upgrading to HAFM 08.xx.xx, and if the server is
rebooted, both 07.xx.xx and 08.xx.xx services are started. Be sure to remove 07.02.00
after upgrading to 08.xx.xx.

Important information
This section describes important information related to the HAFM software, the Edge
Switch 2/24, Edge Switch 2/32, Director 2/64, Director 2/140, and McDATA 4Gb
SAN Switch.
Features not supported in this release
The following HAFM features are not supported in this release:
•SANtegrity Security Center
•Group Configuration Manager
These features are described in the documentation released with HAFM 08.08.00 and
firmware08.01.00.Someofthesefeaturesmaybeavailableinafuturerelease.
Adding McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch to HAFM management
A McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch is added to HAFM management the same way as other
M-Series switches, with one additional configuration requirement. The username and
passwordfortheAdministratoraccountoftheswitchmustbeconfigured in HAFM. The
default username and password for a McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch are preconfigured for
the switch in HAFM when the switch is added to HAFM management. If the switch
username and password have not been changed from the default settings, no change is
required. The default user name is admin, and the default password is password.
To configuretheusernameandpasswordthoughHAFM:
1. SelectDiscover > Setup.
The Discover Setup dialog box is displayed.
2. ClickAdd.
The Address Properties dialog box is displayed.
3. Enter the description, IP address, and subnet mask in the appropriate boxes.
4. SelecttheProductTypeandAccesstab.
The Address Properties dialog box with Product Type and
Access tab is displayed.
5. Enter the switch user ID and password for the Administrator account.
6. Click OK.
Disabling the SNMP Proxy
SNMP Proxy is enabled by default on all McDATA 4Gb SAN Switches. To ensure proper
functionalityofHAFM,theSNMPProxyfeaturemustbedisabledpriortodiscovering
theMcDATA4GbSANSwitchinHAFM.

To disable the SNMP Proxy:
1. Open a Telnet session.
2. Log in to the switch.
3. Enter admin start and press ENTER.
4. Enter set setup snmp and press ENTER.
5. Set the ProxyEnabled setting to False.
The message Do you want to save and activate the
snmp setup? (y/n) : [n] is displayed.
6. Enter yand press ENTER.
Installing McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch firmware
To ensure that the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch firmware install results in a Non Disruptive
Code Load and Activation (NDCLA), and does not require a hard reset, close all
instances of the McDATA Web Server embedded GUI except for the instance performing
the install. If more than one instance is open when the install completes, a hard reset is
required which disrupts all switch traffic.
Managing McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch considerations
DO NOT use the Element Manager Fabric Binding feature on McDATA 4Gb SAN
Switches. Element Manager Fabric Binding does not synchronize with HAFM Fabric
Binding. If both Fabric Binding features are used, a disconnect can occur between the
Element Manager and HAFM.
Examples
•IfyouactivateanISLsetwhileaportsetisalreadyactive,theISLsettakesover
and vice versa. This is working as designed.
•If you activate Switch Binding using the Element Manager, and then activate
Fabric Binding using HAFM, the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch copies and appends
the Fabric Binding to the current Switch Binding security policy. This is working
as designed. However, if you then deactivate Fabric Binding using HAFM, it
only deactivates on legacy M-Series and McDATA switches. You must deactivate
thepolicyusingtheElementManagertodeactivateitontheMcDATA4Gb
SAN Switch.
If you also had Switch Binding activated and the learned Fabric Binding policy
is merged, Switch Binding becomes deactivated. A security hole exists if you
do not realize this; however, it is apparent that this happens when you look at
the active policy. Activate the policy you created using the Element Manager
again to enable Switch Binding.
•If there is no Switch Binding activated in the Element Manager and Fabric
Binding is activated using HAFM, Fabric Binding can be deactivated only by
using HAFM. This is working as designed.

•If Switch Binding is activated using the Element Manager with an F-Port logged
in to the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch that is not in the Switch Binding membership
list (for example, an administrator command has not logged out the unwanted
port), Fabric Binding cannot be activated using HAFM.
Minor code enhancements and fixes in M-Series firmware 08.01.00
The release of firmware 08.01.00 incorporates some minor code enhancements and
fixes, and is not a mandatory upgrade, though HP recommends that all Directors and
Edge Switches be upgraded to this version of firmware.
McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch Element Manager support
Provides support for launching the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch Element Manager through
HAFM. Firmware 5.2.2.15.00 is the minimum version of firmware required for HAFM
Element Manager support.
Advanced Fabric Diagnostics enhancements
The following enhancements have been made to Advanced Fabric Diagnostics features
(requires firmware 08.01.00 or later; not supported by McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch):
•Port Fencing—Building on E_Port or ISL Fencing introduced in firmware
07.xx.xx, Port Fencing policies have been enhanced to include F_Ports to block
malfunctioning devices attached to M-Series Directors and Edge Switches. Users
can configure policies to detect ports that are violating security rules, as well as
link-level problems, such as a port that repeatedly exits the active-link state.
If a user-defined threshold is reached, the port is automatically blocked, and
the user is notified. Users can unblock ports manually to allow the ISL or
node to recover when the source of the problem is identified. Malfunctions in
connected hardware or Denial of Service (DoS) attacks can cause devices to
attempt repeated log-ins, which in extreme cases can impact fabric operations
adversely. Port Fencing can detect many of these conditions and prevent adverse
consequences.
Port Fencing is disabled by default. However, when enabled, default threshold
values are established for the different types of policies if the user has not
configured them manually. In most cases, the default policies provide a
reasonable level of protection, but further refinement may be necessary to
accommodate specificSANbehavior.
During planned maintenance or service operations, HP recommends disabling
appropriate policies to prevent fencing of ports from expected behavior.
New CLI commands support this enhancement.
•Embedded Port Log—CLI Enhancements enable users to specify trigger points
that will start and stop events from being written to the Embedded Port Log.
These triggers consist of a data pattern and offset into the Fibre Channel frame.

Predictive optics monitoring
Through HAFM, HAFM Basic, and the CLI, users can monitor the health of the Fibre
Channel optics installed in Edge Switch and Director products. Optics identified as
degraded are flagged and can be replaced during a scheduled maintenance time,
preventing an unplanned outage. This diagnostic can reduce unplanned outages that
could have adverse effects on a fabric.
This feature allows manufacturer-defined limits for a digital diagnostic measurement to
be read from the installed optics and stored. Actual digital diagnostic measurements
are monitored periodically on optics and compared with the stored manufacturer
measurements to determine the overall health of the optics. When any of the digital
diagnostic measurements exceeds a threshold, an event is posted with the date/time,
port number, measurement that exceeded the threshold, and the threshold value that
was exceeded. Measurements include: temperature, voltage, current, transceiver power,
and receiver power.
This feature requires firmware 08.01.00 or later, and is supported on all products except
the Edge Switch 2/16, Edge Switch 2/32, and McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch). Predictive
Optics Monitoring is not supported on the fiber port module (FPM) or the first revision of
the universal port module (UPM) on the Director 2/64 or Director 2/140.
Support for this feature in HAFM for the Edge Switch and Director to display events for
ports that exceed threshold values.
Open Trunking with FMS
Open Trunking Load Balancing is now qualified in FICON environments where FICON
flows are rerouted, without encountering out-of-order frames.
Security enhancements
The following enhancements have been made to Security features:
•Firmware 08.01.00 supports SSL connection for HAFM management sessions.
This ensures that all data transmitted between the switch and these HAFM is
secure and encrypted.
•Support for standard syslog logging functions. You can configure a central
logging service for all log events. Each log can be configured separately for
distribution to the syslog.
•The SNMP interface can be configured to operate in version 3 mode, and
support for authentication is provided. SNMPv3 provides additional security for
you to authenticate any management sessions on your M-Series Fibre Channel
switches. Consider the following:
• The authentication/privacy password (key) configured for an SNMPv3 user
on a switch is not localized. Therefore, the authentication/privacy password
configured in the SNMP management application must be a non-localized
password in ASCII format.

• Before enabling SNMPv3, ensure that all desired community strings are
configured for SNMPv3 access. If the community strings are not configured
for SNMPv3, then SNMP access will be lost.
Documentation released with HAFM 08.08.00
To support these products, McDATA Corporation (the product developer) and HP (the
product OEM) provide documentation. The HP documents include all information that
HP has incorporated into the products to date. The McDATA documents include only
basic product information.

Formatting is required for new backup CD-RW disks
If you use a different CD-RW disk to backup other than the one provided with the HAFM
appliance, you must access the desktop of the HAFM appliance in order to enable the
formatting of the new disk. Backups cannot be performed until the new disk is formatted.
Upgrading from previous HAFM versions requires a special process
If you have an HAFM notebook server or an HAFM appliance and you are upgrading to
HAFM 08.08.00, you must follow the directions as detailed in the HP StorageWorks
HA-Fabric Manager Transition Guide, to successfully transfer your SAN configuration
information to HAFM 08.08.00.
