1 Safety Precautions
1.1 Overview
To minimize risk of personal injury and damage to equipment, read and follow all the
precautions in this document before performing any installation or maintenance. The "NOTE",
"CAUTION", and "WARNING" marks in other documents do not represent all the safety
instructions. They are only supplements to the safety instructions. Only trained and qualified
personnel are allowed to install, operate, and maintain Huawei equipment and basic safety
precautions must be employed to avoid hazards.
To ensure safety of humans and the equipment, pay attention to the safety symbols on the
equipment and all the safety instructions in this document. Huawei will not be liable for any
consequences caused by the violation of the safety operation regulations and design,
production, and usage standards.
The safety precautions described in this section are also applicable to other Huawei equipment.
1.2 Local Safety Regulations
When operating Huawei equipment, you must follow the local laws and regulations. The
safety instructions in this document are only supplements to the local laws and regulations.
1.3 Grounding Requirements
Equipment to be grounded must meet the following requirements:
When installing the device, always make the ground connection first and disconnect it at
the end.
Do not damage the ground conductor or operate the device in the absence of a properly
installed ground conductor. Conduct the electrical inspection carefully.
The device (or system) must be connected permanently to the protection ground before
an operation.
Before operating the device, check the electrical connection of the device to ensure that
it is securely grounded.

1.4 Human Safety
Do not operate the device or cables during lightning strikes.
To avoid electric shock, do not connect safety extra-low voltage (SELV) circuits to
telecommunication network voltage (TNV) circuits.
Before operating the device, wear electrostatic discharge (ESD) clothes, ESD gloves, and
an ESD wrist strap.
Do not wear jewelry or watches when you operate the device.
In the case of fire, immediately exit from the building or the equipment room. Turn on
the fire alarm bell or make an emergency call and never enter a burning building.
1.5 Equipment Safety
The device must be fixed securely on the floor or to other immovable objects such as
walls and mounting racks before operation.
Do not block the ventilation while the device is operating.
Tighten the thumbscrews using a tool after initial installation and subsequent access to
the panel.
After the installation, remove the packing materials from the equipment area.
1.6 Electrical Safety
High Voltage
The high voltage power supply provides power for the device operation. Direct or indirect
contact (through damp objects) with high voltage and AC mains supply may result in fatal
danger.
Non-standard and improper high voltage operations may result in fire and electric shock.
The personnel who install the AC facility must be qualified to perform high voltage and
AC operations
You must abide by the local rules and regulations when bridging and wiringAC cables.
During the installation of the AC power supply facility, follow the local safety
regulations.
Dedicated tools must be used during high voltage and AC operations. Avoid using
ordinary tools.
When the operation is performed in a damp environment, ensure that the device is dry.
When water is found in the rack or the rack is damp, switch off the power supply
immediately.

High Electrical Leakage
Ground the device before powering it on. Otherwise, personal injury or device damage
may be caused by high leakage current.
If a "high electrical leakage" tag is present on the power terminal of the device, you must
ground the device before powering it on.
Power Cable
Do not install or remove power cables when the device is on. Transient contact between
the core of the power cable and the conductor may generate electric arcs or sparks, which
may cause fire or hurt human eyes.
Before installing or removing the power cable, turn off the power switch.
Before connecting a power cable, verify that the label on the power cable is correct.
Fuse
To ensure that the system runs safely, if a fuse is to be replaced, the new fuse must be of
the same type and specifications.
Electrostatic Discharge
The static electricity generated by human bodies may damage the electrostatic-sensitive
components on boards, for example, the large-scale integrated (LSI) circuits.
Human body movement, friction between human bodies and clothes, friction between
shoes and floors, or handling of plastic articles causes static electromagnetic fields on
human bodies. These static electromagnetic fields cannot be eliminated until the static is
discharged.
To prevent electrostatic-sensitive components from being damaged by the static on
human bodies, you must wear a well-grounded ESD wrist strap when touching the
device or handling boards or application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
Figure 1-1 shows how to wear an ESD wrist strap.

1.7 Battery Operation Safety
Before operating storage batteries, carefully read the safety precautions for battery handling
and connection. Improper handling of storage batteries causes hazards. If customers ask to
configure the batteries by themselves, inform them that batteries should be installed and
maintained according to related safety standards.
When operating storage batteries, avoid short circuit and overflow or leakage of the
electrolyte.
Electrolyte overflows may damage the device. It will corrode metal parts and circuit
boards, and ultimately damage the device and cause short circuit of circuit boards.
Storage batteries are high-powered and short circuits caused by incorrect operation can
result in serious injury.
Use special insulation tools.
Switch off the power supply during installation and maintenance.
Battery short circuit may cause human injuries. Although the voltage of ordinary
batteries is low, the instantaneous high current caused by the short circuit releases a great
deal of energy.
Avoid battery short circuits caused by metal objects. Do not wear jewelry or watches
when you operate the device. If metal objects must be used, first disconnect the batteries
in use before performing any other operations.
When the temperature of the battery is higher than 60°C (140°F), check the battery for
electrolyte overflow. If the electrolyte overflows, absorb and counteract the electrolyte
immediately.
Take care to protect your eyes when operating the device.
Wear rubber gloves and a protective coat in case of electrolyte overflow.

When moving or handling a battery whose electrolyte leaks, note that the leaking
electrolyte may hurt human bodies. When you find the electrolyte leaks, use the
following substances to counteract and absorb the leaking electrolyte:
−Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda): NaHCO3
−Sodium carbonate (soda): Na2CO3
When handling a storage battery, ensure that its electrodes are upward. Leaning or
reversing the storage battery is prohibited.
If your body comes in contact with battery acid, wash with clean water immediately and
call a doctor if the situation is serious.
1.8 Hoisting Heavy Objects
Do not walk below the cantilever or hoisted objects when heavy objects are being hoisted.
Only trained and qualified personnel can perform hoisting operations.
Before hoisting heavy objects, ensure that the hoisting tools are fixed to a secure object
or wall with good weight capacity.
Ensure that the angle formed by two cables is not larger than 90 degrees. See Figure 1-2.

1.9 Using Ladders
Before using a ladder, check whether the ladder is damaged. Only the ladder in good
condition can be used.
Before using a ladder, you should know the maximum weight capacity of the ladder.
Avoid overloading the ladder.
The recommended gradient of ladders is 75 degrees. You can measure the gradient of the
ladder with an angle square or your arms, as shown in Figure 1-3. When using a ladder,
ensure that the wider feet of the ladder are downward, or take protection measures for the
ladder feet to prevent the ladder from sliding. Ensure that the ladder is placed securely.
Ensure that the center of gravity of your body does not deviate from the edges of the two
long sides.
To minimize the risk of falling, hold your balance on the ladder before any operation.
Do not climb higher than the fourth rung of the ladder (counted from up to down).
If you want to climb up a roof, ensure that the ladder top is at least one meter higher than
the roof, as shown in Figure 1-4.

1.10 Moving Heavy Objects
Wear protective gloves when moving heavy objects.
Be careful to prevent injury when moving heavy objects.
To prevent injury, when moving the chassis outwards, be aware of unfixed or heavy
objects on the chassis.
At least two persons are required to move a chassis. When lifting, keep your back
straight and move smoothly to avoid injury.
Move or lift the chassis by holding its lower edge. Do not hold the handles on certain
modules such as power supply, fans, and boards because they cannot support the weight
of the device.
1.11 Handling Fans
When handling fans, note the following:
When replacing a component, place the component, screw, and tool in a safe place.
Otherwise, if any of them fall into the operating fans, the fans may be damaged.
When replacing a component near fans, do not insert your fingers or boards into the
operating fans until the fans are switched off and stops running.

1.12 Laying Cables
When the temperature is very low, violent strike or vibration may damage the cable sheathing.
To ensure safety, comply with the following requirements:
Cables can be laid or installed only when the temperature is higher than 0°C (32°F).
Before laying cables which have been stored in a temperature lower than 0°C (32°F),
move the cables to an environment of the ambient temperature and store them at the
ambient temperature for at least 24 hours.
Handle cables with caution, especially at a low temperature. Do not drop the cables
directly from the vehicle.
Trunk cables must be bound separately from strong-current cables and high-voltage
cables. The minimum spacing of the cable ties is 150 mm (5.91 in.).
Before connecting a cable, ensure that the cable and cable tag to be used meet the actual
installation requirements.

2.3 Monitoring Unit
2.3.1 Appearance
The monitoring unit is 1 U (44.45 mm [1.75 in.]) high, and can be installed in a 19-inch rack.
Figure 2-3 shows the monitoring unit.

2.3.2 Components
Table 2-1 describes the main components of the monitoring unit, including the PMU, UIM
02A and signal transfer board.

Component
Description
Signal transfer board
The signal transfer board is installed at the back of the subrack, and
is used to connect the PMU and UIM 02A. It provides two 96-pin
connectors to connect the UIM 02A and a board if required for
function extension. A 125-pin connector is also provided to connect
the PMU.
PMU
The PMU, which is hot-swappable and serves as the major
processing unit, performs the monitoring function. The PMU
connects to the signal transfer board through a 125-pin connector.
The PMU manages lower level equipment such as the temperature
control unit and outdoor battery cabinet.
UIM 02A
The UIM 02A provides various ports such as the humidity and
temperature detection port, Boolean value input port, dry contact
output.
2.4 PMU
The PMU provides a RUN LED (green), an ALM LED (red), an embedded buzzer, and a
liquid crystal display (LCD) that displays the operating parameters, operating status, alarm

status, configured parameters, and controlling parameters of the DC power, AC power, PSUs
and storage batteries. These parameters are collected by the PMU. You can set parameters and
control the TP48200A-D17B3 by pressing the four buttons as shown in Figure 2-4.
The PMU not configured with the board is the PMU 02B, while the PMU configured with the
SNMP daughter board is the PMU 02C. Only the PMU 02C supports out-of-band monitoring.
All ports in this manual are protected by a security mechanism.

outputs, and communications ports.
