1 User Manual Usage
This chapter describes the notes for using the UPS PDC user manual.
Before using this document, read through and keep in mind the safety precautions in this
document, the precautions in each chapter or section, and the cautions and notes for
operations.
Before using this document, get familiar with the actual configuration and application
scenario of the UPS PDC.
Before using this document, make available the documents delivered with each
component.
Put on necessary protective equipment such as the safety helmet and gloves before
entering the site.
Before performing an operation, ensure that the prerequisites are met. Otherwise, the
expected result may not be achieved. More seriously, equipment damage and personal
injury may occur.
The system configuration parameters are essential to reliable running of the system.
Improper modifications of parameters may easily cause abnormal running status, or even
damage to the system. You are not allowed to modify configuration parameters without
permission when using the UPS PDC. If a modification is necessary, contact Huawei
technical support. Huawei shall not be responsible for any loss caused by unauthorized
configuration modification.
Some parameters mentioned in this document should be provided and configured by
onsite technical support engineers based on the actual application of the UPS PDC.
Operations mentioned in the chapters, sections, or procedures marked "Optional" can be
performed depending on the actual configuration and requirements of the UPS PDC.

2 Safety Precautions
2.1 General Safety Precautions
Overview
To ensure safety of humans and the equipment, pay attention to the safety symbols on the
equipment and all the safety instructions in this document.
The "Note", "CAUTION", "WARNING", and "DANGER" statements in this document do not
represent all the safety instructions. They are only supplements to the safety instructions.
Local Safety Regulations
When operating Huawei equipment, you must follow the local laws and regulations. The
safety instructions in this document are only supplements to the local laws and regulations.
Personnel Requirements
Personnel who plan to install, operate, and maintain Huawei equipment must be thoroughly
trained, understand all necessary safety precautions, and master correct operation methods.
Only trained and qualified personnel are allowed to install, operate, and maintain the
equipment.
Only qualified professionals are allowed to remove safety facilities and check the
equipment.
Only personnel certified or authorized by Huawei are allowed to replace or change the
equipment or components (including software).
Any fault or error that might cause safety problems must be reported immediately to a
supervisor.
Grounding Requirements
Equipment to be grounded must meet the following requirements:
When installing the device, always make the ground connection first. When removing
the device, disconnect the ground cable at the end.
Do not damage the ground conductor.
Do not operate the device in the absence of a properly installed ground conductor.

The device (or system) must be connected permanently to the protection ground before
operation. Before operating the device, check its electrical connection to ensure that it is
securely grounded.
Human Safety
Do not operate the device or cables during thunderstorms.
In the case of a thunderstorm, disconnect theAC power supply, and do not use fixed
terminals or touch the terminals or antenna connectors.
Before operating the device, put on electrostatic discharge (ESD) clothes, ESD gloves,
and an ESD wrist strap. Do not wear conductive articles such as jewelry or watches
when you operate the device.
In the case of fire, immediately leave the building or the equipment room, and turn on
the fire alarm bell or make an emergency call. Do not enter a building that is on fire.
Equipment Safety
The device must be fixed securely on the floor or to other immovable objects such as
walls or mounting racks before operation.
Do not block the ventilation vents while the device is operating.
Tighten the screws using tools when installing panels.
After the installation, remove packing materials from the equipment area.
2.2 Electrical Safety
High Voltage
The high voltage power supply provides power for the device operation. Direct or indirect
contact (especially with a damp object) with the high voltage power supply may result in
serious injury.
Non-standard and improper high voltage operations may result in fire and electric shock.
High Electrical Leakage
Ground the device before powering it on. Otherwise, personal injury or device damage may
be caused by high electrical leakage.
If a "high electrical leakage" tag is present on the power terminal of the device, you must
ground the device before powering it on.

Power Cable
Do not install or remove power cables when the device is on. Transient contact between the
core of the power cable and the conductor may generate electric arcs or sparks, which may
cause fire or injury to human eyes.
Before installing or removing a power cable, turn off the power switch.
Before connecting a power cable, verify that the label on the power cable is correct.
Fuse
To ensure that the system runs safely, if a fuse is to be replaced, the new fuse must be of the
same type and specifications.
2.3 Environmental Safety
This section describes environmental safety precautions.
Do not place or operate a device in a flammable, explosive, or smoky environment.
Operating any electronic device in a flammable environment can be fatal.
2.4 Mechanical Safety
Moving Sharp Objects
Wear protective gloves when moving sharp objects.

Moving Heavy Objects
Wear protective gloves when moving heavy objects.
Be careful to prevent injury when moving heavy objects.
A power distribution cabinet is heavy. It is recommended that you move it with the help of
a tool such as the pallet truck.
2.5 Laying Out Cables
Binding Signal Cables
Signal cables must be bound separately from strong-current cables and high-voltage cables.
Laying Out Power Cables
When the temperature is very low, violent impact or vibration may damage the power cable
sheathing. To ensure safety, comply with the following requirements:
Power cables should be laid out or installed only when the temperature is higher than
0°C.
Store power cables for at least 24 hours at room temperature before laying out them if
they were previously stored at sub-0ºC.
Handle power cables with caution, especially at a low temperature. Do not drop the
power cables directly from the vehicle.

3 Overview
3.1 Product Models
Figure 3-1 shows the model nomenclature for PDU8000 series products.

3.2 Introduction
The UPS PDC is an intelligent PDC specially designed for data centers. With a flexible size
design, it can be either deployed with the modular UPS PDC in the same row in the isle
containments in a modular data center or deployed independently outside the containments.
The UPS PDC consists of a cabinet, ATS, meters, copper bar, bus cable, and fittings. Its input
and output PDUs are fixed. Figure 3-2 shows a UPS PDC.

The UPS PDC distributes power from the connected power supply to UPSs or from the UPSs
to downstream devices. Figure 3-3 shows the position of a UPS PDC in the power supply and
distribution network for a data center.

The UPS PDC complies with IEC 60950-1. Modular design is adopted for the electrical
devices and structural components, providing the following features:

4 Components
4.1 (Optional) Smart Electricity Meter PD510
Figure 4-1 shows a PD510 smart electricity meter.

The PD510 screen has two display modes, including data display and parameter setting, as
shown in Figure 4-2.

(2) Parameter setting
Data display: The PD510 works in data display mode in general. By pressing buttons in
the area, you can view various real-time measurement readings, including voltage,
current, power, and so on. If you press a button multiple times, the screen displays the

next page every time you press the button. If you press the button again on the last page,
the screen goes back to the first page.
Parameter setting: If you press and hold the E button for 3s in the normal display mode,
the controller enters the parameter setting mode. In the parameter setting mode, buttons
are defined from the left to the right side as moving left, moving right, moving down,
moving up, confirming, and returning. If you press and hold the PROG button for 3s in
the parameter setting mode, the screen returns to the data display mode.

smart electricity meter.
4.2 (Optional) ATS
For details about the automatic transfer switch (ATS), see theATS user manual delivered with
the product.
An ATS consists of a transfer switch, electric operation mechanism, and controller. It is used
to select or switch between two power supplies. Common controllers for the PDU8000
include OTM_C8D (8D for short) and OTM_C11D (11D for short).
4.2.1 ATS Operation Precautions
Only electrical professionals are allowed to install and maintain theATS.
The generator can be connected only to power supply 2 (LN2)-switch II. If the generator
is configured, power supply 2 (LN2)-switch II cannot be set as the preferred power
supply.
Do not replace the fuse (F1) with another model. Only fuses labeled with the same model
can be used as replacements.
When theATS is connected to the electric loop, do not attempt to install or maintain the
device.
Before performing maintenance tasks, ensure that the power supply to the switch is
disconnected.

If LN1 and LN2 power indicators are hollow, there is an alarm. Locate the fault based on the alarm ID
and Table 4-1 or the alarm ID description on the 8D controller, and rectify the fault.
