Each time you open your computer, you must follow specific safety procedures to
ensure that you do not dama
g
e your computer. For your safety, and the safety of
your equipment, follow the steps for “Disconnectin
g
your computer” on pa

before you remove the cover of the system unit (if included with the model you
purchased).
Connecting your computer
To connect your computer:
1. Turn off the computer and any external devices (such as a monitor or printer)
that have their own power switches.
2. Attach a si
g
nal cable to each external device (such as a monitor or printer), and
then connect the other end of the si
g
nal cable to the computer.
3. Attachcommunicationcables(suchasmodemcablesornetworkcables)tothe
computer. Then, attach the other ends of the cables to properly wired commu-
nication outlets.
4. Attach the power cords to the computer and any external devices (such as a
monitor or printer), and then connect the other ends of the power cords to prop-
erly
g
rounded electrical outlets.
5. Turn on the computer and any attached devices that have their own power
switches.
To avoid shock hazard:
Danger!
• Do not connect or disconnect any cables or
perform installation, maintenance, or
reconfiguration of this product during an
electrical storm.
• The power cord must be connected to a
properly wired and grounded receptacle.
• Any equipment to which this product will be
attached must also be connected to properly
wired electrical outlets.
• Electrical current from power, telephone, and
communications cables is hazardous. To
avoid shock hazard, use the steps described
in this section to connect and disconnect
cables when installing, moving, or opening
the cover of this product.

Some IBM Personal Computer models are equipped from the factory with a CD-
ROM or DVD-ROM drive. CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives are also sold separately as
options. The CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive is a laser product. The CD-ROM/DVD-ROM
drive is certified in the U.S. to conform to the requirements of the Department of
Health and Human Services 21 Code of Federal Re
g
ulations (DHHS 21 CFR)
Subchapter J for Class 1 laser products. Elsewhere, the drive is certified to conform
to the requirements of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 825 and
CENELEC EN 60 825 for Class 1 laser products.
When a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive is installed, note the followin

the covers of the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive could result in exposure to
hazardous laser radiation. There are no serviceable parts inside the CD-ROM/DVD-
ROM drive covers. Do not remove the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive covers.

CD-ROM ou de DVD-ROM. Mais ces unités sont é

alement vendues séparément
en tant qu’options. L’unité de CD-ROM/DVD-ROM est un appareil à laser. Aux Etat-
Unis, l’unité de CD-ROM/DVD-ROM est certifiée conforme aux normes indiquées
