Taketheembosserupfromthebox. Removethetwoprint-headtransportlocking,redcoloured
plastics,placedinsidethesheetfeeder.Savethetransportationmaterial.
Note!Whenshipping,pleaserememberthattheembosserisadelicateunit. Itisthereforemost
importanttoreplacetheprintingheadlockers,andusetheoriginalpacking!
Beforeinstallingtheembossermakesurethatthereisnovisibledamagetotheembosserandthatthe
deliveryiscomplete. Ifyouencounteranyproblems,pleasecontactyourdealerimmediately.

Loadthepaperandadjusttheleftsidepaperguideuntilittouchthepaperandlockitproperly.
Maximumpaperwidththatcanbehandledbythesheetfeederis297mm.Ifanarrowpaperisused,
onlytheleftmarginguidedshouldbeadjustedaccordinglyandproperlylockedinthatposition.
NOTE!Neverchangethepositionoftherightsidemarginguideonthe4X4PRO!

Tochangethedefaultpaperlength,double-clicktheFORMFEEDkey.Theprinterwillechothe
measuredvalueofthepaperlengthinmm.Smalleradjustmentsofthepaperlengthvaluecanbedone
fromsetup.
Ifyouuseapapertypedifferentfromthepaperthatwasdeliveredwiththeprinter,theprintermayneed
tocalibratethepapersensorinordertoacceptthenewtypeofpaper.
Forinstructions,see6.4.7 -Papersensorcalibration.
2.2.2. Pre-folding line position
TurntheprinterON.Pressthe"1"or"10"keyonceandthentheSETUPkey.Apaperwillbefedintothe
printer,whereapre-foldinglineareprinted.Checkthepositionofthelinebyfoldingthepaperand
makesurethattheedgesmatcheseachother.
Ifthepre-foldinglineisnotatthecorrectposition,e.g.thefirstprintedpageiswiderthenthesecond,
thenthevalueistohigh.Decreasethevaluebyusingthe1and10keysinthecopyfeatures.Theupper
key“1”increases1(+1)andthelowerkey“10”decreases1(-1)foreachkeystroke.Whenyou
reachedthematchingvalue,pressSETUPtostoreitintheprintermemory.(Ifthefirstprintedpageis
morenarrowthenthesecond,thenthevalueistolowandmustbeincreased.)Whenyoupressthe1
and10keysnow,thespokenvaluewillbeinnumberofmotorsteps. Decreaseite.g.5stepsandthen
presstheSetupkeytomakeanewtestprintout.Checkthepositionofthelinebyfoldingthepaperand
makesurethattheedgesmatcheseachother.
Whenthepre-foldinglineiscorrect,theprinterisreadyforuse.

2.3 Paper support position
Thepapersupportsareusedtokeepthepaperstraightinthepapermagazineinordertoavoidmultiple
feeds.
Onthetopofthesheetfeeder,thereisaslotforthepapersupports.Placethepapersupportsinto
positionandpressthemdownintotheslotsotheyareproperlyfixedandpositionedattothemarginsof
paper.
2.4 Document guide position
Ontheloweredgeofthefrontpanelcoveraretwoplasticdocumentguides. Thecorrectpositionfor
theseistobelinedupwiththemarginguidesfollowingthesideedgesofthesheet,inordertoliftthe
papertothecorrectpositioninthedocumentstack,howeveritmayvaryondifferentpaperqualities.
2.5 Computer connection
ConnectIndex4X4PROtothecomputerwiththeSerialorCentronicsinterface. Whenturningonthe
4X4PRO,bothportsarereadytoreceiveinformation.
2.5.1 Serial communication cable
4X4PROisequippedwitha9pinfemale(D-sub)ontheserialinterface,andastandard
CentronicsconnectorfortheCentronicsinterface.
SerialPinconfiguration:
2=RXDIN,3=TXDOUT,4=DTROUT,5=GND,6=DSRIN,7=RTSOUT,8=CTSIN.
Transmittingparameters(factorysetting)are:

3. Embossing in "Saddle Stitch" format
Whenembossingin"saddlestitch"format(newspaperformat)theprocessissignificantlydifferentfrom
usinganormalBrailleembosser.Fortheuserthereisafewquestionsthathavetobeconsideredand
understoodinordertousethesysteminthecorrectway.Itisimportanttonoticethatthe4X4PROis
designedforembossingin"saddlestitch"formatonly. ItisnotpossibletoprintBrailleinnormalpage
format.
3.1 4X4 PRO embossing sequence
a)The4X4PROreceivesthecompletetextfile,upto200pagesofBraille.
b)ThereceivedtextisformattedintoBraillepages.
c)Thepagesisorganisedincorrectorderforembossing.Forexamplethefirstpaperonaneightpages
document,thepages1,2,7&8willbeembossed.Theprocessa,b&cwillresultinadelayofupto
approximately30secondsbeforethe4X4PROstartstoembossthedocument.

Whenmeasuringpaper,theembosserautomaticallycalculatesthepositionofthecentrefold,however
insomecasesitmayneedtobemanuallyadjusted.Usethe"1"and"10"keystogetherwiththesetup
keytoadjustthepositionofthepre-foldingline.

Linelength
When4X4measurersthepaper,itautomaticallycalculatesandsetsthenumberofcharactersperline.
Withitemcharactersperlineyoucanchangethevalueofthenumberofcharactersperline.When
changingthevalue,itwilleffectonlythewidthofthebindingmargin.
Pagewidth
Pagewidthdefineshowmanylinesperpagewillbeprinted.Thepagewidthmustbecorrectlyset,

TheCDincludestheWinBraillesystem,compatibletoWindows95/98/NT.
WinBraillewillbeusedasthesoftwareplatformforIndexEmbossers. Besidetheeitingandtranslation
featuresitalsoprovidesfunctionsforupgradingtheembossersoftware'sandgiveaccesstoIndexweb
site.Thereyoucantakeadvantageofoursupportfeaturesaswellasdownloadrulefilesforthe
WinBraillesystem.
WinBrailleisaBrailleeditorwithafullblownWindowsdriver.Thatmeansthatyoucaninstall
WinBraillewithyourembosserasdefaultprinterandprintdirectlyfromanyWindowsapplication,e.g.
yourwebbrowserandprintanywebpagefromtheinternet.
WinBraillecontrolstheembossercompletely.Thereisnoneedforanysettingsinthesetupnorthe
frontpaneloftheembosser.
WinBraillealsoincludesaRulefileeditorforBrailletables.Usethiseditortocreateoredityour
literaryBrailletablesorBraillecontractiontablesforgrade2Braille.
