RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE
Most electronic equipment is influenced by Radio Frequency Interference (RFI).
CAUTION should be exercised with regard to the use of portable communication
equipment in the area around such equipment. If RFI causes erratic behaviour, PUSH the
Red Emergency Stop Button IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT turn the Red Emergency Stop
Button OFF while transmission is in progress.

The following symbols are used on lifter and attachment labels:
The symbol required to be displayed on regulated products for
sale on the European Market. It indicates that the product complies
with applicable European Directives related to health, safety,
environment and consumer protection.
Safe Working Load. Represents the maximum load the lifter is
rated at for safe operation.
The following symbols are used on sling labels and relate to washing instructions:

Assembly Instructions
All Invacare lifters are fully assembled, load tested and certified at the factory before being
partially dismantled for shipping. Follow these instructions to assemble your Elf 127em.
Tools required: Spanners - 17mm AF, 16mm AF, 2 x 13mm AF
Hexagon Wrench - 3.00mm AF
1. Remove lifter components from packing and lay out on carpeted area.
2. Fit Mast Assembly into Mast Holder of chassis. Ensure that the Mast is fully engaged in the
Mast Holder.Tighten the Clamp Screw to prevent movement of the Mast.
3. Attach Push Handle with M8 Screws, Nuts and Washers packed with the handle.
4. Insert the Adjuster Handle through the Wire Retainer on the Push Handle and into the
socket of the Adjuster Lever.
5. Check the operation of the Adjuster Mechanism to ensure the Adjuster Handle engages in
the three detents but still moves freely.
6. Attach electric Mounting Rail to the Mast if required. Loosen the three screws in the left
side of the Mast, fit the Rail and re-tighten the Screws.
7. Mount the Control Box by sliding it down firmly onto the lower lugs of the Mounting Rail.
Secure with M5 Socket Head Cap Screw.
8. Plug the Actuator into Port 1 on the underside of the Control Box.
9. Plug the Handset Lead into the large socket on the underside of the Control Box. Note,
this socket is keyed so that the plug must be correctly orientated before it will enter.
When aligned, press home firmly. A smear of Vaseline on the O-Ring may assist if the plug
is tight.
10. Clip Battery Pack onto Control Box and check operation of the Actuator. The Red
Emergency Stop Button must be released for the Actuators to function properly.Turn the
Knob 1/4 turn clockwise to release.

Fitting a Spreader Bar or Pivoting Frame
1. Remove the Spreader Bar shaft from the boom.
2. Insert the Spreader Bar shaft through the Spreader Bar or Pivoting Frame.
3. Attach Spreader Bar cover (Pivoting Frame only).
4. Place boom end cover over the Spreader Bar shaft. Squash it down to expose the bolt hole
in the Spreader Bar shaft.
5. Insert bolt through clevis and shaft.
6. Fit nut and tension to allow easy movement of Spreader Bar shaft.
7. Fit boom end cover over end section of boom.

Overview
Designed primarily for domestic use or as a convenient institutional lifter, this compact model
provides a surprisingly large patient space - in fact - more knee and head room than most much
larger lifters.This allows a patient to be freely rotated and makes the carer's job easier and safer.
The Elf 127em offers an excellent lifting range allowing patients to be lifted safely and easily
from the floor to a bed or chair. Patients may be rotated to face any direction without
impediment.
The Elf 127em is an electric powered unit with a safe working load of 127kg (280lb) and is
available for use with the following optional attachments:
• Spreader Bar - for use with standard slings;
• Pivoting Frame - for use with Pivot Slings; and
• Weighing Device - for effortless, accurate, electronic weighing.

Safety Summary
Check all parts for shipping damage before using. In case of damage, DO NOT use the
equipment. Contact the Dealer for further instructions.
The Invacare patient lift is NOT a transport device. It is intended to transfer an individual from
one resting surface to another (such as a bed to a wheelchair). Moving a person suspended in a
sling over ANY distance is NOT recommended.
DO NOT attempt any transfer without approval of the patient’s physician, nurse or medical
assistant.Thoroughly read the instructions in this Owner’s Manual, observe a trained team of
experts perform the lifting procedures and then perform the entire lift procedure several times
with proper supervision and a capable individual acting as a patient.
Use common sense in all lifts. Special care MUST BE taken with people with disabilities who
cannot cooperate while being lifted. Use restraint straps if necessary.
Invacare slings and patient lift accessories are specifically designed to be used in conjunction
with Invacare patient lifts. Slings and accessories designed by other manufacturers are not to
be utilized as a component of Invacare’s lift system. Use of these products is prohibited and will
void Invacare’s patient lift warranty. Use only genuine Invacare slings and patient lift accessories
to maintain patient safety and product utility.
Use a sling that is recommended by the individual’s doctor, nurse or medical assistant for the
comfort and safety of the individual being lifted.
DO NOT use any kind of plastic back incontinence pad or seating cushion between patient and
sling material that may cause the patient to slide out of the sling during transferring.
When using an adjustable base lift, the legs MUST BE in the maximum OPENED/LOCKED
position BEFORE lifting the patient.
Before transferring a patient from a stationary object (wheelchair, commode or bed), slightly
raise the patient off the stationary object and check that all sling attachments are secure. If any
attachment is not correct, lower the patient and correct the problem, then raise the patient
and check again.

During transfer, with patient suspended in a sling attached to the lift, DO NOT roll caster base
over objects such as carpet, raised carpet bindings, door frames, or any uneven surfaces or
obstacles that would create an imbalance of the patient lift and could cause the patient lift to tip
over. Use steering handle on the mast at ALL times to push or pull the patient lift.
Invacare does NOT recommend locking of the rear casters of the patient lift when lifting an
individual. Doing so could cause the lift to tip and endanger the patient and assistants. Invacare
DOES recommend that the rear casters be left UNLOCKED during lifting procedures to allow
the patient lift to stabilize itself when the patient is initially lifted from a chair,
bed or any stationary object.
After the first 12 months of operation, inspect the swivel bar and the eye of the boom (to
which it attaches) for wear. If the metal is worn, the parts MUST be replaced. Make this
inspection every six (6) months thereafter. Casters and axle bolts require inspection every six
(6) months to check for tightness and wear. Regular maintenance of patient lifts and
accessories is necessary to assure proper operation.
DO NOT exceed maximum weight limitation of the patient lift.The weight
limitation for the Elf 127em is 127kg (280lb).

Mechanical Features
Leg Spread Adjuster
The legs of the base can be widened by pushing the Leg Spread
Adjuster Handle (located at the rear of the machine) to the left.
For example, when lifting a patient from a chair, the base may need
widening to straddle the legs of a chair.
Sling Attachment
Standard slings are attached to the hooks on a spreader bar via
webbing straps.
Pivot slings are attached via key-hole buckles to studs located on
the pivoting frame.
Locking Castors
The Elf 127em comes with high quality locking castors at the rear.
These castors are easily operated by foot and keep the lifter
stationary when required.
