1. Introduction
This User Guide helps you get started with the IRIScan™Executive 4, a mobile duplex scanner.
It is compatible with Windows only.
The default scan settings of the IRIScan™Executive 4 are the following:
•Duplex mode
•Color
•300 dpi
Its maximum resolution is 600 dpi.
Please read this guide before operating this scanner and its software. All information is subject to
change without prior notice.
The software delivered with this scanner is:
•Readiris™Corporate
•Cardiris™
•Button Manager

2. Software Installation
2.1 Important Notes
•Install the software before you connect the scanner to your computer.
•Check the System Requirements on the I.R.I.S. website to make sure your system is compatible.
2.2 Precautions
Keep the scanner out of direct sunlight. Direct exposure to the sun or excessive heat may cause
damage to the unit.
Do not install the scanner in a humid or dusty place.
Be sure to use the proper AC power source.
Place the scanner securely on an even, flat surface. Tilted or uneven surfaces may cause mechanical
or paper-feeding problems.
Retain the scanner box and packing materials for shipping purposes.
2.3 Installation
1. Go to www.irislink.com/start.
2. Scroll down to IRIScan™Executive 4 and click the Download button.
3. Once the download is complete, run the IRIScanExecutive4.exe file.
4. The following setup screen is displayed:
5. Click "Readiris™Corporate” to install Readiris. Follow the on-screen instructions.
WARNING: make sure to install this version of Readiris™Corporate. Other versions of Readiris™
are not guaranteed to work with the Button Manager software.
6. Return to the setup screen and click “IRIScan™Executive Driver” to install the scanner driver.

7. Click “Next” until you reach the step “Plug in the USB Cable”.
Connect the micro USB connector to the USB port of the scanner.
Connect the other end of the USB connector to a USB port on your computer.
8. When the driver is successfully installed the following message appears: “This device is now ready
to use”.
9. Click “Finish” and return to the setup screen.
10. Click “Button Manager” to install the Button Manager. A language selection window appears.
11. Choose the language you wish to install. The InstallShield wizard guides you through the rest of the
installation.
12. Click “Finish” to complete the installation.
13. Click "Cardiris™”to install Cardiris™. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Attention: only use the USB cable delivered with your scanner. Using other USB power adapters may
damage the scanner and void the warranty.

2.4 Activation
The license numbers required to activate Readiris™ and Cardiris™ will be retrieved automatically on the
condition that your scanner is connected to your computer by USB during activation process.

3. Supported Documents
3.1 Suitable Documents
The scanner is designed to obtain the best scanning results with the following types of originals:
◼Photos and documents (3”x5”, 4”x6”, 5”x7”, 8.5”x14”) (76 x 127mm, 102 x 152 mm, 127 x 177 mm,
216 x 356 mm)
◼Business cards [standard 3.5”x 2” (88 x 50 mm) or larger]
◼Long page (8.5”x36”) (216 x 914 mm) for 300 dpi only
◼Paper Weight: 60~107 g/m2(16~28 lb)
3.2 Unsuitable Documents
Do not use the following types of originals for scanning, or the scanner may malfunction or cause the
original to jam in the slot.
◼Originals thicker than 0.8 mm
◼Originals with either side shorter than 50 mm
◼Originals with lots of black or dark colors
◼Originals with dark colors surrounding the edges
◼Printed media (newspapers, magazines, etc.)
◼Soft and thin materials (thin paper, cloth, etc.)
◼Originals that exceed 14 inches long and 8.5 inches wide (for 600 dpi)

4. Using the Scanner

•Face UP
•Aligned with the LEFT edge to begin scanning.

Power/Scanner button
Press and hold for 3 seconds to power on/off.
The blue led lights up and stays on when the
scanner is powered on.
Press once to scan.
Warning: the scanner must be connected to a
computer to power it on and to scan.
Blue led, on.
Scanner is powered on.
Blue led, blinking.
Scan in progress.
Green led, blinking fast.
Scan error or paper jam.
Led is off.
Scanner is powered off.
Notes:
When the scanner is idle for 240 minutes it
auto powers off.
When your computer is not connected to a
power source and you put it to Hibernate the
blue led turns off.

4.3 Scanning with the IRIScan™Executive 4
The IRIScan Executive 4 can be used in several ways:
•With the Button Manager to scan documents directly to Readiris for text recognition, scan them
to other applications of your choice, to multiple Cloud destinations, etc.
•From within Readiris™or Cardiris™.
In this User Guide we only describe the basics how to scan.
Separate User Guides are available for the Button Manager, Readiris and Cardiris.
The documentation package can be found on the Technical Support section of www.irislink.com.
4.3.1 Basic Scanning
WARNING!
•Insert only one page at a time, and insert the next one only when the previous one is done. Otherwise,
the scanner may malfunction.
•The paper detector is quite sensitive. Please do not push your document into the feeding slot or the top
of your image will be cut. Simply let go the document when it begins to feed into the slot.
1. Connect the scanner to your computer using the provided USB cable.
The scanner is powered on automatically.
2. Insert your document FACE UP into the feeder and align it to the LEFT edge of the feeder.
3. Gently push the document into the feed slot.
4. Press the Scanner button once to start scanning. The document will be sent to the default
destination of the Button Manager.
Note: it takes a few seconds for the scanner to start.

4.3.2 Scanning like an ADF (Automatic Document Feeder)
The IRIScan™Executive 4 can also be used as an ADF in which you insert one sheet after the other without
having to click or press Scan every time.
1. Start the Button Manager from All Programs > IRIS Button Manager.
2. Right-click the button you want to use.
3. Select Use Twain next to Advanced Settings, and click OK to confirm.
TIP: to remove Blank pages from your scans, click the Setup button next to Use Twain. Click
the Separation tab and select Blank Page Removal Threshold. The more you move the slider
to the left, the sooner a page will be considered blank.
4. Now insert a page into the scanner and click the button you configured.
5. Once the page has been fed through a message appears informing you you have 15 seconds to
insert another page.
6. Insert the other pages you want to scan one by one.
7. When you are done scanning all your pages, click Cancel.
