Your DiskAshur DT is preformatted in NTFS for Windows®and is ready for use. For the Mac OS
please refer to the directions on the reverse to reformat your drive to a compatible format.To
access the DiskAshur DT connect the drive to a power outlet via the AC Adapter and a USB port
using the USB 3.0 cable (this cable is also compatible with USB 2.0).
Once connected turn the power swit c h o n t h e b a c k o f t h e d r i v e t o t h e O N p osition, the LOCK
indicator light on the top of the unit s h o u l d s h o w R E D . E n t e r t h e d e f ault PIN number of 1234 5 6 a nd
press . The UNLOCK indicator light wil l t u r n G R E E N i n d i c a t i n g t h e drive is u n l o c k e d a n d c a n b e
accessed.
Changing the ADMIN PIN number to your own unique PIN number
Yo u a r e t h e “ a d m in i s tr a t or ” o f t h is d ri v e . T h e  r s t th i n g y o u w i l l w a nt t o d o is c ha n g e t h e A d m i n i s t r a t or
PIN number from the default 123456 t o a u n i q u e , s e c u r e P I N n u m b e r t hat you will remember.
To change theAdmin PIN number follow the instructions below:
To e n t e r A d m i n M o d e , c o n n e c t t h e d r i v e t o a U S B p o r t . T h e U N L O C K i n d i c a t o r l i g h t w i l l b e R E D .1 .
Next , press and ho ld 0 + for 5 s econds until t he UNL OCK ind icator light  ashes RED.2. Enter the Admin PIN number (default is 123456) and press . The ADMIN (A)3. indicator light will turn BLUE indicating you are in Admin Mode.
While in Admin Mode, press and hold 9 + until the ADMIN (A) light ashes BLUE.4. Enter the new PIN number (minimum 6 digits) and press . The UNLOCK indicator5.
light will ash GREEN 3 times if successful.
Re-enter the new PIN number and press . The UNLOCK indicator light will stay6. solid GREEN for 2 seconds then the ADMIN (A) indicator light will become solid BLUE
indicating you have successfully changed the Admin PIN.
To exit Admin Mode and begin using your DiskAshur drive, press the CANCEL button7. until the LOCK indicator light turns RED. Now enter your new PIN number and press .

Button Panel
The “Cancel” button can be used to:
Cancel current operation• Return to the previous step when you knowingly entered a wrong• password
Exit the Admin Mode•
The button can be used to access the diskAshur DT and it can also be used
as an OK acknowledgement in the following operations:
Entering a password•
Conrming a new password•
The indicator light displays the following colors to indicate the various modes of
operation:
RED: Standby Mode•
BLUE: Admin Mode• GREEN: User Mode•
The indicator light has other display methods to indicate different status of the
diskAshur DT. Details are provided later in this chapter.

Before you begin
Be sure to review the following information before you begin to use the
diskAshur DT.
Attention: Use only the included cables with your diskAshur DT.
You might damage the drive if you use a cable not included with the
diskAshur DT.
Connecting the diskAshur DT
Ensure that the power switch on the back of the diskAshur DTis in the OFF1. position.
Connect the diskAshur DT to a power outlet using the includedACAdapter.2. Attach the USB cable to the diskAshur DT drive and to an available USB port on3. your computer.
Turn the power switch on the back of the diskAshur DT to the ON position.4. The LOCK indicator light should turn RED, indicating that the drive is now ready5. to use.

You can use it in one of the following ways:
Enter the Admin Mode with • 123456 (default administrator password),
and then you are able to change the Admin Password or create a User
Password.
Directly enter the Secure User Mode with• 123456 (default Admin Password)
to use the diskAshur DT.
How do I use the diskAshur DT the rst time?
What if I forget the User Password?
Use your Admin Password to enter Admin Mode, and then create another User
Password in Admin Mode.
NOTE: If you forget or lose your ADMIN password there is no way to
access the drive. Even an IStorage employee will be unable to help
you access your data. In the event that this happens, the only way to
use the drive is to do a complete reset, which will reset the encryption
key making all data on the drive unrecoverable and restore the Admin
Password to the default 123456.
See the Chapter “Completely Resetting your diskAshur DT” for
instructions.

Entering and exiting the Standby Mode, Admin
Mode, and User Mode
Entering the Standby Mode
The Standby Mode is the default mode of the diskAshur DT and is the gateway to
other operations.
To enter the Standby Mode, attach the diskAshur DT to your computer. The drive
automatically goes into Standby Mode and the LOCK indicator light turns RED. In this
mode, the diskAshur DT is locked. It cannot be recognized by My Computer and it
does not provide either the regular functions or the encryption function. However, it
enables you to enter and switch between the Admin Mode and the User Mode.
Attention: To switch between the Admin Mode and the User Mode, you are
required to switch to the Standby Mode rst, and then you can enter the
mode of your choice.
Entering the User Mode
To enter the User Mode, do the following:
Attach the drive to your computer and to a power outlet using the AC Adapter. 1. Turn the power switch to the ON position. The drive will be in Standby Mode.
Enter the User Password or the Admin Password (the default Admin Password 2. is 123456) and press . The UNLOCK indicator light turns GREEN indicating
that the drive is in the User Mode. If the LOCK indicator light ashes RED, you
need to re-enter the correct password.
Exiting the User Mode
To exit the User Mode, press the “Cancel” button on the diskAshur DT keypad. If
there is no activity for 5 seconds the drive will lock and go into Standby mode.
Alternately, you can turn your diskAshur DT OFF at the power switch on the back of
the unit. Once you turn the diskAshur DT ON again, the LOCK indicator light will be
RED, indicating that you are in the Standby Mode.

Entering the Admin Mode
Note: The diskAshur DT cannot be recognized by the operating system in the
Admin Mode.
To enter the Admin Mode, do the following:
Attach the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer and turn the 1. diskAshur DT ON. The diskAshur DT goes into the Standby Mode, and the
LOCK indicator light turns RED.
Press and hold + 0 for ve seconds until the LOCK indicator light ashes 2. RED. This indicates that you can enter the Admin Password.
Enter the Admin Password and press . The default Admin Password is 3. 123456. The drive is in Admin Mode when the ADMIN (A) indicator light has
changed to BLUE.
Note: If the LOCK indicator light ashes RED for a few seconds, indicating
the diskAshur DT has returned to the Standby Mode, go back to Step 2.
This is due to one of the following conditions:
You entered an incorrect Admin Password in Step 3.•
No activity was detected within 10 seconds in the Admin Mode.•
Exiting the Admin Mode
To exit the User Mode, press the “Cancel” button on the diskAshur DT keypad. If
there is no activity for 5 seconds the drive will lock and go into Standby mode.
Alternately, you can turn your diskAshur DT OFF at the power switch on the back of
the unit. Once you turn the diskAshur DT ON again, the LOCK indicator light will be
RED, indicating that you are in the Standby Mode.

Password Management
Changing the Admin Password
This section provides information about managing your password in the Admin
Mode and User Mode.
You can change the Admin Password by doing the following:
Enter Admin Mode (refer to page 9 for details).1.
Press and hold + 9 until the ADMIN (A) indicator light ashes BLUE.2.
Enter the new password and press (The Password must be a minimum 3. of 6 digits and a maximum of 16 digits). The UNLOCK indicator light ashes
GREEN three times. See note below.
Re-enter the new Admin Password and press . The UNLOCK indicator light 4. will be solid GREEN for two seconds and then theADMIN (A) indicator light
will become solid BLUE indicating that the Admin Password has been changed
successfully.
Note: If the LOCK indicator light ashes RED three times, this indicates
that the password is less than 6 digits or more than 16 digits. Enter a
password that contains 6 – 16 digits after the ADMIN (A) indicator light
ashes BLUE intermittently.
If the LOCK indicator light ashes RED intermittently and then the 1. ADMIN (A) BLUE intermittently, go back to step 3. This is due to one
of the following conditions:
You waited longer than 10 seconds before entering a password.•
The new password was entered incorrectly.•
If no activity is detected within two minutes in the Admin Mode, the 2. diskAshur DT will return to the Standby Mode.
