Product Descriptions
Model Descriptions
Table 1 lists the product model number
descriptions.
Type Descriptions
Table 2 lists the product type number descrip-
tions.
Software Descriptions
Table 3 lists the software number descriptions.
Precautions
The Figure 2 symbols are defined as follows:
1. (Type 1) Do not insert a damaged or exhibited
unfit condition Banknote; it may cause a jam
inside the unit.
2. (Type 2) Do not expose the unit to water. The unit
contains several precision electronic devices that
can be damaged if water or any liquid is sprayed
or spilled into the unit.
3. (Type 3) Do not install the unit in a dusty
environment. Dust may damage the unit or
degrade its performance.
User Cautions
Careful measures were taken in the design of this
product to ensure its quality; however, the follow-
ing cautions pertain to all users and should be fol-
lowed for safe operation.
Installation Cautions
The Installation Cautions are defined as follows:
1. Do not allow the Unit to endure or operate at a
high temperature, in high humidity and/or in a
dusty environment.
2. Do not install the Unit into an area where exces-
sive vibration or shock is present or strong exter-
nal pressure is applied.
3. The Unit is not designed for outdoor installation.
Be sure that the Host Machine contains enough
protection to avoid wet or dusty conditions,
including the internal unit assemblies, when
installing in either an indoor or open-air space.
4. Avoid exposing the Unit to direct Sunlight and/or
incandescent Lamp Illumination. (Refer to
“Environmental Specifications” on page 7).
5. Ensure that the Host Machine is designed for
daily operational access for maintenance and/or
clearing a Banknote Jam. (Refer to “Unit Dimen-
sions” on page 29).
6. Do not use the Unit where it may be exposed to
airborne evaporated or sporadic chemicals and/or
oil.

7. Ensure that the Host Machine is designed consid-
ering the risk of electronic components that can
cause induced noise. The noise generated by the
components on the Host Machine may affect and
degrade the Validation performance.
Mounting, Dismounting & Transportation
Methods for mounting, dismounting &
transporting the RBA-40C Unit:
1. Be sure to turn the Unit’s Power OFF before
mounting or removing the Unit from its perma-
nent location. Plugging or unplugging Connec-
tors from their Receptacles while the Power is
ON may cause damage to the Unit.
2. When reassembling a disassembled Unit Section,
ensure that each part is properly replaced into its
correct location.
3. Be careful not to use excessive outside pressure
on the Unit, or subject it to excessive vibration
during transportation.
4. Do not throw or apply external pressure on the
Unit. Improper handling may cause personal
injury and/or damage to the equipment.
5. Be sure to carry the Unit by both hands when
transporting it for your safety.
Operation Cautions
The Operation Cautions are defined as follows:
1. When closing the Unit, ensure all Service Door
including the Upper Guide locks securely.
2. Ensure that the RBA-40C Unit is properly placed
into its correct location.
Preventive Maintenance
The preventive maintenance requirements are
defined as follows:
1. Be sure to turn the Unit’s Power OFF before
beginning a cleaning or maintenance procedure.
Cleaning or performing maintenance while the
Power is turned on may cause personal injury if
the Unit mechanisms accidentally move.
2. To keep the RBA-40C Unit’s performance and
Banknote acceptance at optimal rates, clean and
maintain the Unit regularly. (Refer to “Cleaning
Procedures” on page 12 for the cleaning proce-
dures and schedule).
3. Perform cleaning and maintenance regularly
when using the equipment in an smoky environ-
ment such as where excessive Automobile
exhaust emission or Cigarette Smoke may exist.
4. Do not redesign or disassemble the Unit.
Unauthorized use by inadequately trained
personnel, or use outside the original manufac-
turer’s intent voids the warranty.
5. If the Unit is exposed to water or other liquids,
use a clean Micro-fiber Cloth to wipe off and
absorb excess liquids immediately. Any
remaining liquids may affect and degrade the
Sensors and Validation performance.
Banknote Fitness Requirements
The following Banknote types may not validate
correctly, or worse, can cause a Banknote jam and/
or damage to the Unit’s Transport Path. Banknotes
exhibiting the following conditions illustrated in
Figure 3 should be avoided:
• Torn
• Worn
• Taped
• Excessive folds or wrinkles
• Dirty
• Wet and/or Oiled
• Adhering foreign objects
• Excessive miscuts, misaligns and/or misprints
WARNING: This Unit is designed for
use with a Limited Power Source!
Design the Host Cabinet space to meet
all local related safety standards.
WARNING: Make sure Interface Harness
connections to the Host Machine are
shorter than 9.84 Feet (3 Meters) in
length. Cut off all unused portions of
the Interface Harness wiring to avoid
static electrical effects or short circuit
possibilities that could cause damage
to the Unit. (Refer to “Connector Pin
Assignment” on page 9 for the
recommended wires).
WARNING: Do not inject water or liquid
agents of any kind into the Unit, as this
may cause extreme damage to the Unit.
Caution: Do not use Alcohol, thinner or
Citrus based products for cleaning any
Banknote Transport Sensors or surfaces.
The lenses can become clouded by
chemical evaporation residue that may
cause acceptance errors.
Caution: Be careful to avoid personal
injury to your fingers when closing the
Upper Guide Section.

Section 5 RBA-40C™ Banknote Acceptor Preventive Maintenance
This section provides the preventive maintenance
for the RBA-40C™ Banknote Acceptor (RBA-
40C). It includes the following information:
• Clearing a Banknote Jam
• Opening the Centering Mechanism
• Cleaning Procedures
Clearing a Banknote Jam
To retrieve a jammed Banknote located inside the
Banknote Acceptor, proceed as follows:
1. Press on to the Upper Guide Open/Close Button
(Figure 6 a) located on both sides of the RBA-
40C Unit to open the Upper Guide (Figure 6 b).
2. Remove the jammed Banknote (Figure 6 c).
Opening the Centering Mechanism
If a Banknote jam occurs in the Banknote Acceptor
when the Centering Mechanism is closed, the
Upper Guide will not open. To release (open) the
Upper Guide, power cycle the Unit and allow it to
reset.
Cleaning Procedures
To clean the RBA-40C Unit, gently rub the Sen-
sors, Rollers or Belts using a dry, soft,
lint-free, Micro-fiber Cloth ONLY.
1. Remove electrical power.
2. Press on to the Upper Guide Open/Close Button
to open the Upper Guide.
3. Clean the appropriate path and Lens of each Sen-
sor, Roller and Belt. (Refer to “RBA-40C Sen-
sors and Cleaning Locations” on page 13 for each
Sensor and Roller that requires cleaning).

NOTE: If power cycling fails to clear the
Banknote jam, use a 5.5mm nut driver to
rotate the Centering Guide Open Shaft, then
open the Upper Guide and remove the
Banknote from the RBA-40C unit (Figure 7).

To keep the RBA-40C Unit’s
performance optimal, perform routine
cleaning and maintenance;
• At least once a month; and/or
• Whenever Sensors, Rollers, Belts or
Banknote Path are dirty due to dust, foreign
objects or similar debris adhering to them.
Caution: Do not use alcohol, thinner or
citrus based products for cleaning any
Sensors or surfaces. The lenses can
become clouded by chemical
evaporation residue that may cause
acceptance errors.
Caution: Do not inject water or liquid
agents of any kind into the Acceptor, as
this may cause extreme damage to the
Unit.
Caution: Be sure to use non-flammable
compressed air only.
