element todirectcontact and may result in ignition of clothing,
Proper relationship of cookware to heating element will also im-
prove efficiency and performance.
10, Never leave surface units unattended at high heat settings. Boil

11. On conventional element cooktops make sure that drip pans are in
place. Absence of these pans during cooking may subject wiring
or components underneath to damage.
12. Do not use aluminum foil to line surface unit drip pans or grill basin.
Installation of these liners may result in an electric shock or fire
hazard.
j-13.Glazed cookware - only certain types of glass, glass-ceramic,
ceramic, earthenware, or other glazed cookware are suitable for
cooktop surface without breaking due to the sudden change in
temperature. Use only such cookware as you know has been
approved for this purpose.
14.Cookware handles should be turned inward and not extend over
adjacent surface heating elements to avoid burns, ignition of
flammable materials and spillage due to unintentional contact with
the cookware.
15.Do not soak or immerse removable heating elementsin water.
16. CAUTION - Do not store items of interest to children in cabinets
above cooktop - children climbing on the cooktop to reach items
could be seriously injured.
17. Do not touch surface units or areas near units.Surface units or
heating elements may be hot even though they are dark in color.
Areas near surface units may become hot enough to causeburns.
During and after use, do not touch or let clothing or other flammable
materials contact these areas until they have had sufficient time to
cool. Other surfaces may become hot enough to cause burns -
among these surfaces is the cooktop.
t8.Do not cook on glass-ceramic cooking surface if the cooktop is
broken, Cleaning solutions and spillovers may penetrate the
broken cooktop and create a shock hazard.Contact an authorized
Jenn-Air Service Contractor.
19. Clean glass-ceramic cooktops with caution. If wet sponge or cloth
isused to wipe spills on a hot cooking area, be careful to avoid steam
burns.Some cleansers can produce noxious fumes if applied to a
hot surface.
20. Do not operate with damaged cooking element after any product
malfunction until proper repair has been made.
21.Keep all switches "OFF" when unit is not in use.

Ventilation System
Using the Ventilation System
-Thefan controlislocatedatthe rear ofthecontrolpanelThevariablespeedfan
can beoperated at eightdifferent settings when usingthe cooktop cartridges or
thegriddle.
• Thevantilationsystemwiltoperateautomaticatlywhenthegrillelementisinuse,
NOTE: Duringgrilling,thefan speedisautomatically satfortheHighsetting and

To set: lal1.TouchFan Pad.
TheindicatorWordFanandtheIndicatorBar willappearsolidinthe Display. The
fan will begin atthe fan speed last selected.
2.Touch the Up or Down Arrow Pad to change thefan speed, By continuously
touchingthe Arrow Pad,the fan speedwill quickly advance.TOslow downthe
rateof advancement, tap the Arrow Pads.
TOcancel:
1.The indicator Bar needsto be abovethe indicator Word Fan. If itisnot, touch
theFan Pad.
2.TouchtheOff Pad.
IMPORTANT: After thegrlll has been turnedoff, thedewndraftfan mayremainon
for 5 additional minutes depending onothercooking operations.
If there is no other surface uniton, the downdraftfan will remainon for five
additionalminutes,
if there is another surfacecontrol in use,the fan control will return to a manual
fan setting.
NOTE: Thefancan manually beturned OFF after thegrill isoff bytouching the

Cleaning the Ventilation System
Air Grille: Theairgrille liftsoffeasily.Wipeclean orwashinsink withmildhousehold
detergents.Maybe cleaned in dishwasher.
Filter;Turn off ventilationsystem before removing.
The filter is a permanent type and should becleaned
when soiled,Clean in sink withwarmwater and liquid
dishwashingdetergent or in dishwasher.
IMPORTANT:DONOTOPERATESYSTEM WITHOUT
FILTER, Fittershouldalways be placedatan angle. As
you facethefront ofthecooktop,the bottomofthe filter
shouldrest on theledgeonthe left side. The topof the
filtershould rest againstthe right side, There are also
ledges on thefront and rear sidesfor the fiiter to rest.
(NOTE: If filter isflat against the fan wall, ventilat{an
effectiveness is reduced.)
.................................... Ventilation Chamber: This area,which housesthe
filter,shouldbecleanedinthe event ofspillsor whenever itbecomescoated with afilm
ofgrease. Maybe cleanedwithpapertowel,dampcloth,or spongeand mildhousehold

Special Optional Pads
Your cooktop hasthree optionalfunctions, which canbe set one ata time. The optional
functions are: Timer, Probe, and Downdraft Fan.
Ta set:
• See individual function sections for procedure.
Inthe Display, an Indicator Bar is displayed above one prompt word at a time
which indicates the function that can beset or cancelled.
• Ifmorethan one function has been selected, the IndicatorBar willappear above
thelast function set.
To cancel:
• The Indicator Bar needs to be above the prompt word of the function to be
cancelled.If it is not, touch the appropriate function pad.
• Touch the Off Pad. If a second function has been operating, the Indicator Bar
will be displayed above that prompt word.
Timer
This Timer can be used to remind you when a period of time, up to 99 minutes and 59
seconds, expires.
Ta set:t. TouchtheTimer Pad.
The Indicator Word Timer flashes,the Indicator Bar lights solid, and "0:00"
appears in the Display.
2. TouchtheUpArrowPad. BycontinuouslytouchingtheUpArrowPad,thetime
willquicklyadvance.Toslowdownthe rateofadvancement, taptheArrow Pads.
Three seconds after usingthe Arrow Pads, the Timer will automaticallv be set,
the Timer will beep 3 times.
NOTE: If more than 10 seconds elapse between touching Timer Pad and
touching an Arrow Pad,the Timer Pad must betouched again to set the
numbers.
To cancel:
1.The Indicator Bar needsto be above theIndicator WordTimer.If it isnot, touch
the Timer Pad.
2. Touch the Off Pad.

Surface Controls
Operation
To set:
1. TouchtheOn/OffPad. Thebargraphand"L,3,5,7,9,H"promptswillflashonand
off.
2.Touch either a setting pad (High,Med, Low) or the Up or Down Arrow Pads.
The eleven control settings are indicated by the bar graph.
Note: If more than 13 seconds elapse between touching the On/Off Pad and
selecting a setting, the control will not be set and the Display willbe blank.

The size and type of cookware used and the amount and type of food being cooked will
influence the setting needed for best cooking results. Electrical line voltage may also
vary, which will affect the needed control setting. Thesetting indicated should serve as
a guide while you become familiar with your cooktop.

Using Cooktop Cartridges
Cooktepcartridge options include conventional coil, halogen, radiant, or solid element.
To Install Cartridges
1. If the grill grates, element, and/or grill liner pans are in place, remove before
installing acooktopcartridge.Cleanbasin panofany greaseaccumulation. (See
page 14 for cleaning recommendations.)
2. To installanyofthe optionalcooktop cartridges, be surecontrols are OFF,basin
pan is in place, and air grille is removed.
3. Position the cartridge terminal plug towards the terminal receptacle.Slide the
cartridge towards the receptacle until the cartridge terminal plug is completely
engaged. Lewertheeppesitesideofthecartridgeintothecooktopuntil itis flush
with the surface.
4. Add the air grille. Your cooktop is now ready to use.
To Remove Cartridges
1. Controls must be OFF and the cartridge should be cool.
2. Remove the air grille.
3. Liftthe cartridge side next tothe ventilation chamber untilthetop ofthe cartridge
is about 3 inchesabovethe cool{top.Lifting the cartridgetoo high while still
engaged in the receptacle could damage the terminal plug.
4. To disengage terminal,hold cartridge bythe ventilation chamber side and slide
away from the terminal receptacle. Lift out when fully unplugged.
5. Do not stack cartridges where they may fall or be damaged. Never store other
materialson topofa glass-ceramiccartridge since this could damageor marthe
surface.
NOTE: Remember to replace the air grille before using the ventilation system.
Home Canning
Canning should be done on the conventiona_coil cartridge only. Canning element
accessory, Model A145, makes it possible to use large oversized canners with the
conventional coil cartridge.
Foradditional information, refer touse and caremanual packaged withyour cartridge.

Grilling
Thegrill accessory consists of two black grill grates, a grill element and a grill liner pan.
To Install Grill
1. Beforeinstalling grill components, be certain surfacecontrolsareOFF.
2. Place thegrill liner intoanemptybasin pan with theopening next totheterminal
block.The grill liner pan must be used sinceit supports the grill element.
3. Position the grill element with the terminal pLugtowards the terminal receptacle.
Slide the element towards the receptacle until the terminal plug is completely
engaged.The grillelement shouldrest flat onthe sideledgesofthe grill liner pan.
4. Place the black grill grates on the top of the basin pan.
To Remove Grill
1. Remove grill components once they are cool. Be sure controls are OFF.
2. TOremove grillelement, liftthe side attheventilation chamber untilthetop ofthe
element isabout 112inchabovethe cooktop. (NOTE:Liftingthe elementtoo high
while still engaged in the receptacle could damage the terminal plug.) To
disengage terminal, slide away from the terminal receptacle. Lift out whenfully
unplugged,
Grill Covers
1. Grillcoverscan beusedtocover thegrill,whennotin use, oran empty basinpan.
2.To removethe gdll covers, push down on front or rear side. The opposite side
will lift slightly for easy removal.
