oven.

Read before operating your range
All appliances -- regardlessofthe manufacturer-- havethepotential
throughimproperorcarelessuseto createsafetyproblems.There-
forethefollowingsafetyprecautionsshouldbe observed:
1. Besureyour applianceisproperly installedand groundedby a
qualified technician.
2. Never useyour applianceforwarming or heating the room.
3. Children should not be left aloneorunattended in area where
applianceisinuse. They shouldnever beallowedto sitorstand
on any part of theappliance.
4. Wear proper apparel. Loose-fitting or hanging garments should
never be worn while using the appliance.
5. Donot repairor replace any part of theappliance unless
specifically recommended in thismanual. All other servicing
should be referred to an authorized Jenn-Air Service Contractor.
6. Flammablematerials should not bestoredin an ovenor near
surface units.
7. Do not use water on greasefires.Smother fire or flame or use
dry chemical or foam-type extinguisher.
8. Useonly dry potholders.Moist or damp potholders on hot
surfacesmay result in burns from steam.Do not let potholder
touch hot heating elements. Do not useatowel or other bulky
cloth.
9. Use proper pan size. Many appliances areequipped with one
or more surface unitsof different size. Select cookwarehaving
flat bottoms large enough to cover the surface unit heating
element. The useof undersized cookwarewill exposea portion
of theheating element to direct contact and may result in
ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookware to heating
element willalso improve efficiency and performance.
10, Never leave surface unitsunattended at high heat settings. Boil
over causessmoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite.

11.Glazed cookware -- only certaintypes of glass, glass-ceramic,
ceramic,earthenwareorotherglazedcookpotsaresuitable for
rangetopsurface without breaking dueto thesudden change
intemperature. Use onlysuchcookware asyou know has been
approvedfor this purpose.
12.Cookwarehandles should be turnedinwardand not extend
over adjacent surface heating elements to avoid burns, ignition
of flammable materials and spillage due to unintentionalcontact
with the cookware.
13.CAUTION-- Donot storeitems ofinterest to children in
cabinets abovea range or on the backguard of a range --
children climbing on the rangeto reach itemscould be seriously
injured.
14.Do nottouch surface unitsor areas nearunits, heatingelements
or interior surfaces of oven. Surface units or heating elements
may be hot even though they are dark in color. Areas near
surface units and interior surfaces ofan oven may become hot
enough to cause bums.During and after use, do not touch or
let clothing or other flammable materials contact theseareas
until they have had sufficient time to cool. Other surfaces may
become hot enough to cause bums --among these surfaces
arethecooktop,the upper door frame and glass,oven vent
opening and surfaces near the opening, and the top edge ofthe
control panel.
15. Use care when opening oven door. Let hot air or steam escape
before removing or replacing food.
16.Donot heat unopened food containers. Build-up of pressure
may cause container to burst and result in injury.
17. Keep oven vent ductsunobstructed. The oven vent is located
at the back of the cooktop.
18. Always place oven racks in desired location while oven iscool.
If rack must be moved whileoven ishot, do not let potholder
contact hot heating element in oven.
19.Do not clean door gasket.The door gasket is essentialfor a
good seal. Care should be taken not to rub, damage or move
thegasket.

20.Do not use oven cleaners. Nocommercialoven cleaner or
oven liner protective coating of any kind should be used in or
around any part of the oven.
21.Clean only parts listed in this manual and use procedures
recommended.
22. CAUTION:BEFORE SELF-CLEANING THE OVEN, REMOVE
FOOD, BROILER PAN AND OTHER UTENSILS.
23. Listen for fan. A fan noise should be heard during the broil and
cleaning cycles. If not, call a serviceman before self-cleaning
again.
24. Do not cook on glass-ceramic cooking surface if the cooktop is
broken.Cleaning solutions and spillovers may penetrate the
broken cooktop and create a shock hazard. Contact an
authorized Jenn-Air Service Contractor.
25.Clean glass-ceramic cooktops with caution. If wet sponge or
cloth is used to wipe spills on a hot cooking area, be careful to
avoid steam bums. Somecleansers can produce noxious
fumes if applied to a hot surface.
26.Do not operate with damaged cooking element after any
product malfunction until proper repair has been made.
27.Keep all switches "Off'when unit is not in use.
28. Do not allow aluminum foil to contact heating elements.
29.Do not use aluminum foil to line oven bottom. Installation of
theseliners may result in electric shock or fire hazard.
30.WARNING: To reduce the risk of tipping of the appliance, the
appliance must besecu red byproperly installed anti-tip devices.
To check if devices are installed properly, remove the storage
drawer and verify that theanti-tip devices are engaged.
31.This appliance has been tested for safe performance using
conventional cookware. Do not use any devices oraccessories
that are not specifically recommended in this manual.Do not
use eyelid covers for the surface units, stovetop grills,or add-
on convection systems.The use of devices or accessories that
are not expressly recommended in this manual can create
serious safety hazards, result in performance problems, and
reduce the life of the components of the appliance.

32.PREPARED FOOD WARNING: Follow food manufacturer's
instructions. If a plastic frozen food container and/or its film
cover distorts, warps or is otherwisedamaged during cooking,
immediately discard the food and its container.The food could
be contaminated.

substances known to the State of California to cause cancer or repro-
ductive harm, and requires businesses to warn customers of potential

warned that when the range is engaged in the self-clean cycle, there
may besome low level exposure to some of the listed substances,
including Carbon Monoxide. Exposure to these substances can be
minimized by properly venting the range to the outdoors during the
self-clean cycle.

the Off position),pushinonthecontrolknoband turnineitherdirectiontodesired setting.
•Whenthecontrolisinanyposition,otherthanOff,itmaybetumedinanydirectionwithout
pushingin.
•Forthe left rear dual element control,pushthecontrolknob inand turnclockwisefor the
largeelement orcounterclockwiseforthe smallelement.
• A green indicator light will g_owwhen a surface heatingelementis On. There are four
indicatorlights,oneforeach element.
Thehotsurfacelightwill glowred to indicatethat acookingarea is hot. This Lightwillremain
on un_ltheareahascooled.

The sizeand typeofcookwareand theamountandtype offood beingcookedwill influencethe
settingneeded for best cookingrosults. Electricalvoltagemaya/sovary, whichwill affectthe
needed controlsetting.Thesettingindicatedshouldserveasa guidewhileyoubecomefamiliar
withyour range.
HI Afast heat tostart cookingquickly,tobringliquidsto aboil,to preheatoilfordeepfat
fP/ing.
7-10 (Medium High) For fast frying or browningfoods, to maintain rapid boil of large
amounts of food,tomaintain oiltemperature fordeepfatfrying.
5-0(Medium) Forfoodscookod inadouble boiler,sauteing,slowboilof largeamounts
of food and mostfrying.
3-4 (Medium Lo) To continuecookingfoods started onhigher settings.
LO-2 Maintaining serving temperaturesoffoods, simmering foods, melting butter or
chocolate.
Thecontrolsofferflexibilityinsetting selection. On settings otherthanHi, youmay adjustthe
controlabove orbelow thenumberedsettingforbest results.Suggestedsettingsare provided
as general guidelines.

To achieveoptimum cooking performance, use heavy gauge, flat, smooth bottom
cookpotsthatconformto thediameteroftheradiantelement(no morethan one inch
overhang).Propercookpotswillminimizecookingtimes,uselesselectricity,cookfood
moreevenlyand requirelesswater oroil
Cookpotswiththin, unevenbottomsdo notadequatelyconductheatfromtheradiant
elementtothefoodinthecookpotswhichresultsinhotspots,burnedorunderdonefood.
Usingbad cookpotsalso requiresmorewater,time,and energyto cookfood.
• Select heavy gauge cookpots. Usually heavygaugecookpotswillnotchange
shapewhen heated,
•Usecookpots with flat, smoothbottoms. Thetwowaystodetermineifcookpots
havea fiat, smoothbottomare the rulertest and the cookingteat,
Ruler Test:

Cooking Teat:
1.Put1 inchof waterintothe cookpot.
2. Placecookpotonthe element. Turn contrelto the HI setting.
3. Observethebubbleformationto determine the heatdistribution. If the
bubblesare uniformacrossthecookpot,thecookpotwillperformsatisfac-
torily.Ifthebubblesarenotuniform,thebubbleswillindicatethehotspots.
•Match the size of the ¢ookpot to the size of theelement. Ideally,the cookpot
willbethe samesize or slightlylarger.
