WARNING
For your own safety, read the operator's manual before operating the drill press.
Wear eye protection.
Do not wear gloves, neckties, or loose clothing.
Clamp the workpiece or brace it against the column to prevent rotation.
Use the recommended speed for drill accessories and workpiece materials.
.KEEP GUARDS IN PLACE and in working order.
.REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form a habit of checking to see that keys and
adjusting wrenches are removed from the machine before turning iton.
.KEEP THE WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and work benches invite accidents.
.DON'T USE INA DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. Don't use power tools in damp or wet locations,
or expose them to rain. Keep work area well lighted.
.KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. Allvisitors should be kept a safe distance from the work area.
.MAKETHE WORKSHOP KIDPROOF with padlocks, master swatches, or by removing starter keys.
.DON'T FORCE THE MACHINE. Itwilldo the job better and safer at the rate for which itwas

.USE THE RIGHT MACHINE. Don't force a machine or attachment to do a job for which itwas not

.USE THEPROPER EXTENSIONCORD. Makesure yourextension cord is ingood condition.
When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carrythe current your machine
willdraw. An undersized cord willcause a drop inthe line voltage resulting inpower loss and
overheating. Ifin doubt, use the next heavier gauge. Remember, the smaller the gauge number, the
heavier thecord.

.WEAR PROPERAPPAREL. Do notwear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets, or other
jewelry which may get caught in moving parts. Non-slip footwear is recommended. Wear protective
hair covering to contain long hair.
.ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face or dust masks if the cutting operation is dusty.
Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses; they are not safety glasses.
.DON'T OVERREACH. Keep properfooting and balance at all times.
.MAINTAINTOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for the best and safest performance.
Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
.ALWAYS DISCONNECTTHE MACHINEFROM THE POWERSOURCE BEFORE SERVICING.
.REDUCE THE RISK OF UNINTENTIONALSTARTING. Make sure the switch is in the off position
before plugging in.
.NEVER STAND ON A MACHINE. Serious injury could occur if the machinetipped or if the drill bit is
unintentionally contacted.

Before Assembly
1. Finish removing the contents of the shipping
container.
2. Comparethe contents of the shipping container
with the list found in this manual. Report any
shortages or damageto your JET distributor.
3. Clean all rust protected surfaces with kerosene
or a light solvent. Do not use lacquer thinner,
paint thinner, or gasoline. These will damage
plastic components and painted surfaces.
Assembly
1. Slide crank (A, Fig. 1) onto the table raising
assembly shaft.
2. Tighten the set screw (8, Fig. 1)to hold the
crank in place.
3. Install the handle (C, Fig. 1) onto the crank.
4. For the GHD-20/20T, install three handle and
knobs (A, Fig. 2) into the downfeed hub. For
the GHD-20PF/20PFT, screw two knobs onto
the handles of the power downfeed assembly.

Adjusting the Head Height
To facilitate shipping, the DrillPress is packed with
the head adjusted down on the column. The head
assembly should be moved to the top of the column
before drilling operation starts.
,WARNING
The head assembly is very heavyl Use caution
when adjusting the head and make sure it is
supported by the table or locked in place.
Failure to comply may cause damage to property
and/or personal injuryl
1. Unlockthe table by loosening handle (A,Fig. 3).
2. Lowerthe table untilthere is roomto place a
blockof wood between the table and the head
assembly (Fig.4).
3. Loosen two nuts (A,Fig.5) on the head
assembly.
4. Raise the head by raising the table. The head
is at the correct height when the top of the head
isjust belowthe columncap (B, Fig.5).
5. Tightenthe twonuts (A,Fig.5) on the head
assembly firmly.
6. To lowerthe head, reverse the steps above. Do
not loosen the head assembly bolts without
supporting the head. This may cause the
head to slip on the column and may cause
damage to the machineor personal injury.
Adjusting the Rack Assembly
After the table has been adjusted,the rack assembly
will need to be raised.
CAUTION
The table must be locked when raising the rackl
Failure to lock the table may cause the assembly
to drop on the column, causing damage to the
machinel
1. Makesure both head assembly nuts (A,Fig. 5)
are tight.
2. Loosen the hex socket cap screw (A,Fig.6) on
the upper rack ring.
3. Loosen twosets screws on the bottomrack ring
(A,Fig.7).

4. Raise the rack assembly by turning the table
raising handle clockwise.
5. The rack assembly is at itsfull height when the
top rack ring isjust below the head assembly
(as illustrated in Fig.6).
6. Tighten the hex socket cap screw on the top
rack ring and two set screwson the lower rack
ring.
Controls
Low / Off / High Switch (A, Fig. 8) - located top left
side of the head assembly. Switch between low and
high speed range. Inthe stop position, the spindle
is stopped, but the machine still has power.
Fine Feed Handwheel (B, Fig.8) - located on the
front lower right of the head assembly. Turn
clockwise to lowerthe quill. Turn counter-clockwise
to raise the quill.
Quill Lock (C, Fig. 8) -located on the front lower
right of th~ head assembly. Turn clockwise and
tighten to lock the quill. Turncounter-clockwise and
loosen to unlock the quill.
Speed Selectors (0, Fig.8}-located on the top
front of the head assembly. Usedwith low/offlhigh
switch and the speed chart on the front of the head
assembly to setthe drill to a specific speed.
Caution: Change speeds only when the machine
is stopped.
Depth Stop (GHD-20/20T)(E, Fig.8) - located on
the front bottomof the head assembly. When set,
the quill will only advance to a certain depth.
Depth Stop (GHD-20PF/20PFT) (A, Fig. 9) -
located on the downfeed assemblyon the right side
of the head assembly. When set, the quill will
advance automatically or manuallyto a certain
depth.
Power Downfeed Speed Selector
(GHD-20PF/20PFT)(B, Fig. 9) -located on the right
side of the head assembly. Set to advance the quill
at desired speed. Engage the power downfeed by
pulling the handle assembly away from the head.
Disengage the power downfeed by pushing the
handle assemblytoward the head. Tighten Lock
Screw (C, Fig. 9) to lockout the power downfeed
and to keep the drill in manualfeed only.

Low/Off/High Switch (A, Fig. 9A) Switch between
low and high speed range. Inthe stop position, the
spindle is stopped, but the machinestill has power.
Drilling Tapping Selector (B, Fig. 9A) For drilling
press start switch (F, Fig. 9A) to run the machine.
Caution: The internal depth stop (GHD-20PFT) is
used only with the tapping function. Raisethe
adjusting knob (8, Fig. 11)to the top of the depth
stop screwso as not to interferewith power
downfeed or manualfeeding operations. For
tapping, turn switch (8, Fig.9A) to tapping position,
press down the handle. The quill functions when
upper limit switch is released. Itthen reverses
automatically after hitting lower limit switch andwill
not stop until it hits the upper limit switch.
Emergency Switch (C, Fig. 9A) Press this switch to
stop all operations.
Power Light (D, Fig. 9A) Indicates power is on.
Reverse Switch (E, Fig. 9A) If tapping is interrupted
press the reverse switchto reverse the tapfrom
workpiece. The button must be held down for
continuous reversing.
Start Switch (F, Fig. 9A) Activates the motor in the
drill or tap mode.

Electrical Connections
0,WARNING
A quafified electrician must complete all
electrical connections!
All adjustments or repairs must be dOne with the
drill disconnected from the power source!
Failure to comply may result in serious injury!
The motor is rated at2 HP, 3 Ph, 230Vonly. Make
sure the power available matches the power
requirement of the drill. The drill must be properly
grounded.
When the drill is connected properly, the spindle
turns clockwise in a conventional drilling rotation. If
the spindle does not turn clockwise, disconnect the
drill from the power supply and reverse two of the
three power leads.
Installing a Drill Chuck (not included)
1. Disconnectthe machinefrom the power source.
2. Clean the arbor and the inside of the chuck.
3. Pushthe chuck onto the arbor.
4. Place a piece of scrap wood on the table and
raise the table to just below the chuck.
5. Using the down feed handles, lowerthe chuck
against the piece of scrap woodfirmly to "seat"
the chuck.
Removing the Arbor
1. Unplugthe machinefrom the power source.
2. Make sure the drill is in gear.
3. Removethe main shaft cover (A, Fig. 11).
4. Use an adjustable wrench or box wrench to
loosen the draw bar (A, Fig. 10).
5. Unscrewthe draw bar approximatelytwo
revolutions. If the arbor is not loose, gently tap
on top of the draw bar to loosen the arbor.
6. Continue to unscrew the draw bar with one hand
on the chuck and arbor so that it doesn't drop
onto the table.

Adj~stin9 the Depth Stop for Drilling
(GHD.20J
1. Follow steps for GHD-20 drilling

To drill multiple holes at the same preset depth, use
the depth stop:
1. Turn the adjusting knob (B, Fig. 11) until the
correct depth is indicated on the scale on the
front of the drill head.
2. Drill several test holes to make sure the depth
stop is set correctly.
Adjusting Depth Stop for Drilling and
Tapping (GHD-20T)
2. When the tapping switch is on. The limit switch
switches are active and will reverse rotation at
the bottom of the stroke and stop rotation at the
top. Fig. 12
1. loosen the depth stop lock handle (A, Fig. 12).
3. When tapping switch is off, The limit switches
are off and do not effect spindle rotation.
Adjusting the Depth Stop for Drilling
(GHD-20PF)
2. Manually advance the quill to the desired depth
with one hand.
3. With the other hand, turn the depth stopscale
(B, Fig. 12) counter-clockwise to zero.
4. Tighten the depth stop lock handle (A, Fig. 12).
The depth stop will now stop the drill at the pre-
determined setting.

1. Turn the adjusting knob (B, Fig. 11) until full
travel is possible. Do not use this scale as a
reference when drilling. This depth stop isfor
tapping only and should not interfere with
drilling operations.
2. Follow stepsfor GHD-20PFdrilling.

Adjusting the Depth Stop for Tapping (GHD-
20PFT)
1. Loosen the depth stop lock handle (A, Fig. 12)
so it does not interfere with the internal depth
stop located on the front of the drill head.
2. Adjust the front depth stop for the proper depth.
3. Manually advancethe quill releasing the upper
limit switch for tapping. This will start the motor.
The quill will reverse directions upon triggering
the lower limit switch.
4. Do not powerfeed and tap at the sametime.
Changing Spindle Speeds
To change spindle speeds:
1. Stop the drill by turning the low/stop/high switch
to stop.
2. Adjust the levers (A, Fig. 13)to the desired
speed as indicated by the speed chart. Turning
the spindle by hand will help the gear teeth
mesh.
Return Spring Adjustment
The return spring is adjustedat the factory and
should not need further adjustment. If adjustment is
necessary:
1. Unplug the machinefrom the power source.
2. Loosen lock knob (A, Fig. 14)while holding the
quill spring cover. Do not allow the cover to turn
in your hand or the spring will unwind.
3. Pull out the cover (8, Fig. 14) and rotate until
the pin (C, Fig. 14)on the return spring plate
engages the next notch in the coil spring cover.
Turn the cover clockwise to decrease tension
and counter-clockwise to increase tension.
4. Tighten the lock knob (A, Fig. 14). Do not over-
tighten. Nuts should not contact the housing
when tight.

Tilting the Head
To tilt the head:
1. Turn nut (A, Fig. 15)clockwise to pull out the
alignment pin (B, Fig. 15).
2. Loosen hex nuts (C, Fig. 15).
3. Tilt the head to the desired angle.
4. Tighten two hex nuts (C, Fig. 15).
5. The alignment pin onlyworks at 0" and must be
reinserted when the head is returned to 0°.

Medium. Check level daily and change yearly.

Changing the Gear Box Lubricant
1. Disconnect the machinefrom the power source.
2. Loosen nuts (A, Fig. 17)
3. Tilt the head to accessthe drain plug. The
drain plug isfound inthe head cavity behind the
spindle.
4. Loosen the drain plug but do not remove.
5. Tilt the head back upright.

6. Place a container on the table to catch the
draining lubricant.
7. Remove the filler plug (A, Fig. 18).
8. Remove the drain plug.
9. Replace the drain plug after the lubricant has
finished draining.
10. Pour one (1) gallon of new lubricant (Mobil
DTE@Oil Heavy Medium)through the filler hole.
Caution: Use of any other type of lubricant
other than that specified may cause damage
to the drill press.
