●Do not attach this product to locations other than a PC
card slot. Otherwise the PC in use may be damaged.
•Beforeattaching this PCcard,make sure that thecard
slotof your PCisdesigned to accommodatePC cards
(PCMCIA) TYPE II or TYPE III.
●If the CU-VPSD60U produces an unusual odor, sound
orsmokeduring use, switchoffyourpersonalcomputer
immediatelyand unplug theplug from thepoweroutlet.
Continuing to use the CU-VPSD60U could result in a
fire or other damage.
Contact your JVC dealer or authorized JVC service
facility to request repairs.
●Do not affix labels or stickers to the outside of the CU-
VPSD60U as these could fall off inside the PC card
slot and damage the slot.
●Do not remove the adapter card, SD Memory Card or
MultiMediaCard while it is being accessed.
Otherwise the stored data may be destroyed or lost.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
This product incorporates precision electronic parts.
Handle it carefully by using caution in the following points.
n Avoid exposure to a high temperature or to direct sunlight.
nDo not attempt to bend the PC card or subject it to a strong
impact.

n Do not touch the connector directly by hand, etc.
1. CHECKING THE OPERATING
ENVIRONMENT
The PC card is a card for use in expanding the functionality of a
computer, established based on an international standard devel-
oped jointly by the JEIDA (Japan Electronic Industry Development
Association) and PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card In-
ternational Association). The previous standard corresponding to
the new PC card standard was “PCMCIARel. 2.1/JEIDAVer. 4.2”.
1-1. Operating Environment
1. Apersonal computer which has a TYPE II or TYPE III PC card
slot in compliance with the “PCMCIA Rel. 2.1/JEIDA Ver. 4.2”
and “PC Card Standard”.
2. Windows®95/98/98SE/Me/2000 Professional, or Mac OS 8.5
or a later Operating System.
* For details, consult your dealer or nearest Support Center.
1-2. Applicable Media
See “Applicable Media” in Section 5, “Specifications”.
Use only for compatible OS. Otherwise, files may be destroyed.
Hereafter, the term “Memory Card” will be used to refer to both SD
Memory Cards and MultiMediaCards.

ATTACHING/REMOVINGTHEMEMORYCARD
The illustrations on this page show examples of a notebook PC in use.
Please also refer to the instruction manual of your PC for details.
1Hold the Memory Card with the label
side up and insert it into the slot on
the PC card adapter.
2Insertthe PC cardadapter into thePC
cardslot of aPC or similarequipment.
Attaching the Memory Card
NOTE:
If a PC card adapter without a Memory Card is inserted in a
PC, the PC will not recognize the PC card adapter.
Removing the Memory Card
1Take the PC card adapter out of your
PC.
2Push the eject button on the PC card
adapterandpullout the Memory Card.
NOTE (for Windows®):
Do not insert or eject the Memory Card into or from the PC card
while it is inserted in your PC.
When removing a PC card adapter from a PC, be sure to open
the PC card (PCMCIA) properly. Terminate operation or halt the
use of the PC card and wait until the message “You may safely
remove this device.” before actually removing the PC card.

3. SETTING UP THE EQUIPMENT
3-1. Running on Windows®95/98/98SE/Me/2000
Professional
v PC card recognition procedure
Windows®95/98/98SE/Me/2000 Professional incorporates a
Socket Service, Card Service and ATA Card Device Driver.
Therefore, the PC card becomes ready for use as soon as it is
inserted in the PC card slot. The procedure is as described in the
following.
1Start Windows®95/98/98SE/Me/
2000 Professional.
2InsertthePC card inthePCcard slot.
3When the [New Hardware Found]
screenappears,select [Windows de-
faultdriver] and click[OK]. Except for
Windows®95,thissetupis performed
automatically.
4WhenthePCrecognizesthePCcard,
it displays the files stored in the PC
card, which now become available.
NOTE:
Thedialogboxshown on the rightmay
not be displayed automatically with
certain PCs. In this case, check My
Computer to see if a new HDD has
been created in it.

NOTE:
If the PC card is taken out of the PC card slot while Windows®
95/98/98SE/Me/2000 Professional is running, the data saved
in the Memory Card may be destroyed. To prevent this, be sure
to observe the following procedure when taking the PC card
out of the PC card slot.
NOTE:
If the [Stop Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller (PCMCIA
IDE/ATAPI Controller, for Windows®2000)] icon is clicked with
the mouse left button after clicking the PC card icon, go directly
to step 3 below.
v Preparation for removing the PC card from the PC card slot
1Double-click the PC card icon on
the right of the taskbar.
2Click the [Standard IDE/ESDI Hard
Disk Controller Socket] icon with the
mouse left button, then click [Stop (or
Quit)] with the mouse left button.
3Click [OK].

4Make sure that [(Empty) -
Socket] is displayed, then click
[OK] with the mouse left button.
5Now you can remove the PC
card from the PC card slot.
3-2.Operation with Macintosh
To enable the use of Memory Card formatted for MS-DOS, a File
Exchange with version 3.0 or later should be installed in your
Macintosh.
To check theversion of yourFileExchange, click theFile Exchange
file in the control panel in the System folder and select [Get info]
from the displayed file menu.
For details, refer to the instruction manuals of your Macintosh.
NOTE:
•Do not attempt to re-format the Memory Card to the Macin-
tosh format, as this will make it unusable with Windows or
Windows-based equipment.
•Use Mac OS 8.5 or a later Operating System.

4. TROUBLESHOOTING
If your PC does not recognize the drive set for the PC Card Adapter
for the SD Memory Card/MultiMediaCard, check the following table.
If the problem cannot be solved by the information and measures
listedinthetable,pleasecontactyourdealer ornearestsupportcenter.

Treatment
•Make sure that the PC in use is
equipped with a TYPE II or
TYPE III PC card slot in com-
pliance with both the [PCMCIA
Rel.2.1/JEIDAVer.4.2]and[PC
Card Standard].
•Make sure that the card and
cardadapter are insertedfirmly
in position.
•Check thedrivenameassigned
to the PC card slot where the
PC card is inserted.
•Check thatthe SocketService,
CardService andATACard de-
vice driver are set up correctly.
•Certain PCs may need to be
rebooted after inserting this
product.
•Open Control Panel ➝System
➝DeviceManager, andsetthe
IRQ (Interrupt Request) and I/
O ports of the unit (PC Card
Adapter) manually.
