use. Thecontouredmetalbaseiscoveredwithhigh-densityplasticto
preventchipping during normalstudentuse.Theseandotherfeatures,
weredesigned toenhancethe PrepScopetoofferyouthe best value.
Specifications
MICROSCOPEPREPARATION
Checkthecoarsefocustension. The knobsareoversized and are
designed forbettergripping.The coarseknob should turneasilyto
change the focus,butthe stageshould notmoveon itsown.
Forshipping purposesyourPrepscope had been shippedwitha
restrainingstrap around the microscope, please cutthestrapoff, as
you willnot need itagain.
Checkthestagestopsafetyfeature. Besurethe stage moves
up anddown when turning the focusing knob. Tocheckthe stop first
placeaprepared slide in position forviewing.Movethe coarsefocus
until the objectiveandstageareasclosetogetherastheycan be. Look
at the slideand turnthe 40xobjectiveintoplace.Thisobjectiveshould
beveryclosetothe slide,butnot touching.
OPERATION
Built-InIlluminator (model T-1201and T-1202)
Turnoff the powerswitch,located onthe side ofthe microscope,
beforeconnecting thepowercord.Bulb replacementcan be donefrom
the underneathside. SeeBulbReplacementinstructions. Thebuilt-in 10
wattbayonetincandescentbulbprovidesall the lightneeded forillumi-
nation. Donotuseanyotherbulb,asitwilldamage theunit.
Ifyourmicroscopehasamirror(model T-1200),itisusedtoreflect
lightfroman external lightsourceup through thebottomofthe stage.
Neverusedirectsunlight-asasourceforlight.
Eyepiece
Thewidefieldeyepieceisalreadylockedintoplacetoavoidloss.No
need totighten. Theeyepointerisbuilt-in totheeyepiece.
Focus
Placespecimen slideunderthestageclipsintoposition forviewing.
Usethe 4xobjectivefirst. Raisethe stageuntilitwillgo no higher. Then
lowerthestagetobringintofocus.Oncethe imageissharpyou should
beable tosimplyturnthenosepiecetothenextobjectivelensanddo
minoradjustmentswiththe focusknob.
DiskDiaphragm
Therotating disk islocatedunderthestage.(1=smallest, and
5=largest)Thedifferentsized holesareusedtocontroltheamount
oflightthat isprojectedupwardintotheslide. Simplybringone ofthe
differentsized holesinline withthe stage opening. Thereisno set rule
regardingwhichsetting tousewithaparticularlens.
BULBREPLACEMENT(model T-1201and T-1202)
a. Beforechanging thebulb,makesurethatthe powerswitchisoff
and thepowercordhasbeen disconnected fromthe walloutlet.
b. Onthebottomofyourmicroscopeuseaslotted screwdriverto
removethe screwonthe lampdoor.Pullopen the lampdoorandcare-
fullyremovethe old lightbulbfromthesocketbygentlypushing in and
turning thebulb one quarterturncounterclockwise.Using lenspaperto
hold the bulb,put innew bulb andpushand turnclockwise.
c.Avoid touching the glasssurfaceofthe bulb withbarehand.Anyoil
broughtontothe bulbbythe barehandwill negativelyaffect the heat
