Operating your Kenmore®
I) Beforestartingoperation,lift heaterfrom box. We recommendkeepingthe packaging for off-
seasonstorageand any transpor_needs.
2) Finda leveland unobstructedlocationto place theunpackagedheater.
3) Donotplugany otherappfiancesin whileheateris running,
4) Plugthe powercord directlyintoan unusedgrounded120 volt 15 amp circuit receptacle. The
powerbuttonwillilluminateandthe heater will beep, indicatingtheunitispluggedintothe
receptacle.
5) PressthePOWERb_on inthecontrolpanelto turnontheheater.
6) Switchthe Mode Key to "High" inorder to have the]_eaterstay onhighheat and notcycle on
and off.
7) "fireheaterisequippedwitha temperaturelimitingcontrolcontainedinsidethe unit.If theheaterstops
working,it couldbe becauseit hasreached itstemperaturelimit.Shut1hepoweroff,unplugunitand
lettheunitcooldown(Approximately30-45 minutes),pluginunit,turnthepowerbackonand resume
use.if the unitcontinuesto shutdownorthe unitdoesnotresetitself,pleasecall 1-800-839-0966.
IMPORTANT FEATUREAND INSTRUCTION=To turn the heater off, pressthe "Power" button;
the fan will continue to run until all of the heat has been expelled and will then turn off. This
could up to 5 minutesin somecases.DO NOT UNPLUGWHILERUNNING.
Cabinet Care - Wipe cleanwitha soft damp cloth.
Heater Storage - When the heater is notgoingto be usedfor an extendedperiod of time,do the
following:
t) Unplugthe heater,
2) Wind up electricalcord soasto keep it off of the ground.
3) Cover the heaterto preventdustfrom accumulatingon filter or interna]]y.
4) Storethe heater ina dry, low dustenvironment.Preferably in the originalbox.

Kenmore®Heaters comeequipped witha washablelifetimefilter onthe rear of the unitthat is easyto
clean.
IMPORTANTINFORMATION:If youhave alIergies and!or are sensitiveto dust_youwillwantto usethis
filter. When choosing to use the filter, it mustbe cleaned as often asnecessary;a clogged filter will
preventthe heater from workingto itsfull capacity.
To clean the filler:
1) Pressthe tab(s) on thetop of the filter cover to releasethe filter. (See picture)
2) Runwarm tap water over the filter in the opposite direction of air flow, untilwater runsclear. The
filter might excrete somefiltered residue,so be cautiousnotto drip on any stainable surfacessuch
as carpeting. Youcan also soakthefiEter inwater mixed witha smaffamountof mild dishsoap
(don't forget to rinse withwater after soakingfilter).
3) Shakethe filterover a sinkuntilexcesswater isremoved and allow it to drip drycompletely before
reinstatEng. DO NOT force thefilter to dry usingany alternativemethods.
4) ,Reinstallthe filter to the rear of the unitby positioningthe filter back inplace and securingthe
filter coverback into the lockedposition.

Toassuremaximumperformanceof the Kenmoreeheater,please notethe followingrecommendations:

Forbest results,do notlocatethe heater inan area with ahigh rate of air filtration and
movementasthe warm airwill be exhausted.
Tryplacingthe heater near a warmerinside wall and directthe outputtoward acooleroutside
waft. Thecooler outsidewall wiiltend to draw the generatedheat towarditself,whichwillallow
for moreefficientheating.
Placing the heater nextto acold air returnwill draw the heat away from area to be heated.
Tryclosingor covering the cold air return. Thiswilf allowfor moreefficientheating. Experiment
withthe placement of the heaterto seewhat worksbestfor you.
Toensuremaximumefficiency,a 40% (minimum)relative humidityshouldbe maintained in the
heated environmentto acheive softheat.
Theheatersare designedto operate for maximumefficiencyin a roomtemperaturerange from
68' to 72°F. Due to the soft heat concept, atemperature of 68 degrees willfeel asthough it
were 72 degrees. Thisis dueto theheat mixingevenly withhumidityfor %ead-to-toe" comfort.
When the heater isplaced in an isolatedarea, i.e. basementor recreation area, the delivery
registers and air return grillsof the existingsystemshouldbe closed in that area if possible.
Inrooms withlarge areas of bare concrete,try pfac[ngthe heater a few feet above the floor.
Make surethe heater is secureand won'tfall. Thiswill allow for more efficientheating since
concrete actsas a heat sinkand wffl tendto draw theheat in itsdirection.
8) Try lowering yourcentral heatingsystemto a lowertemperatureand placingthe heater in the
area youspendthe majorityof your time. Now setthe Kenmore®heaterto your comfort level.
After afl,there is no pointheating multiple roomswhenthey are notin use.
9) Whenheatinglarger areas,placethe heaterin acentrallocation.If a ceilingfan isnearby,tryusing
it atthesametimeto help di_ibutethe heatevenly.Oursuggestionsgiveita try andseewhatworks
bestforyou.
10) If usedin an extremelydirty ordustyarea,the fillermustbecleanedmorefrequentlyas it can
clogand causethe heaterto slopworking.
t t) Theheater grill ishotwheninuse.Toavoidburns,do notlet bare skintouchhotsurface.Keep
_ombustiblematerials,suchasfurniture,pillows,bedding,papers,clothes,andcurtainsat leastthree
feet fromthefrontof theheaterand keepthemawayfromthe sidesand rear.
12) Extremecautionisnecessarywhenanyheaterisusedby ornear chifdrenor invalidsandwheneverthe
heaterisleft operatingandunattended.
13) Todisconnecttheheater_presspowerbuttonto "off," then removeplugfromoutletonceithasstopped
running.
14) Alwaysunplugheaterwhennotinuse.

WhydoestheBlowerFankeeprunningafterIhaveturnedoffthePowerbutton?
TheBlowerFanwill continueto rununtilthe unit'sheat chambershavecooled down. After a few minutes
thefan will shutoff automatically.
Can the heatingelements be replaced?
Yes.Whenneeded,pleasecall 1-800-839-0966.
The healerTsairflow seems to have diminished.
Make surethe rear intakeisnot blocked and that the filter isdean. Followthe procedureinthe "To
Clean Filter"sectionof thisbooklet.
Can the heater be usedin abathroom?
No. It isnotrecommendeddue to the high level of moistureina bathroom.
Will I be able to usethe heater in a basement?
Yes,but keep in mind that roomswithlittle insulation will notretain the heat as efficiently. Bare
concrete floors, whichact as aheat sinkwith any type of heating,will absorb someof the heat.
Placing the heater a few feet above the floor will allow for more efficientheating.
Can I use morethan one heaterat a time?
Yes,butyou shouldmakesurethey are noton the samecircuit. Eachheater and appliance shouldbe
on its owncircuit.
Can I usethe heater on a job/constructlon site?
No. Thisheater isfor domestichouseholduseonly. Usingthe heater for thispurposewill void your
warranty.
Can Imove the heater around while it isoperating?
No. it isnotrecommendedto moveany portable heaterwhileff is operating. We recommendmoving
theheater only after the fan has completely turnedoff.
What is the life expectancy of an KenmoreeQuartz Heal_ngElement?
Average element life is20,000 hours. TheQuartz HeatingElementsare replaceable by
professionalswhenyou call 1-800-839-0966.
Can I use the healer and another appliance at the same time?
Yes,as longas theyare noton the samecircuit. Zoneheaters are considered to be an appliance.
Youshouldnotrun more thanonelarge appliance on a slng[ecircuit breaker. Yourfreezer,
refrigerator, microwaveoven,washingmachine, dryer, and othersuchappliancesshouldnot sharea
circuit breaker.
Can I use an extensioncord,surge protector,or power strip with my heater?
NO. It isnotrecommended,it is designedto plug directly intoa grounded 120 volt 15 amp circuit
receptacle.
I don't have a grounded outlet;can Iusea cord adapter or remove the grounding plug?
NO. If you don'thave agrounded outlehcontact a licensedelectricianinyour area to haveone
installed. Removingor altering anypart of the heater will void the warranty.
My heater lost power.
Unplugfromwait, check filterto make certain that it is clean,and plug backin.If unitdoesnot
