government requirements
beyond those set forth in the
EULA shall apply, except to the
extent that those terms, rights, or
licenses are explicitly required
from all providers of commercial
computer software pursuant to
the FAR and the DFARS and are
set forth specifically in writing
elsewhere in the EULA. Keysight
shall be under no obligation to
update, revise or otherwise
modify the Software. With

to, could result in damage to the
product or loss of important data. Do
not proceed beyond a CAUTION
notice until the indicated conditions
are fully understood and met.
A WARNING notice denotes a hazard.
It calls attention to an operating
procedure, practice, or the like that,
if not correctly performed or adhered
to, could result in personal injury or
death. Do not proceed beyond a

Keysight Technologies
N9029ACST Compact Frequency
Converter Modules
The Keysight N9029ACST are frequency up (CCU) or down (CCD) millimeter-wave compact
frequency converter (CC) modules, manufactured by Virginia Diodes, Inc. (VDI).
The CCU module provides high performance broadband frequency up-conversion and the CCD
provides the down-conversion. The modules can be used with microwave signal generators and
spectrum analyzers to extend the frequency range for wide band modulated millimeter-wave
signals. These modules achieve low conversion loss and excellent noise figure. The CC also have a
DC jack for use with VDI amplifiers. Refer to the VDI User’s Guide included on the USB drive.
For more information, see the VDI website at http://vadiodes.com. For specifications, see the VDI
web page at https://www.vadiodes.com/images/Products/CC/VDI-737_CC_Product_Manual.pdf.
Due to the double sideband nature of the CCUs, two sidebands (upper and lower sidebands) are
generated during the up-conversion process. A filter may be preferred for certain applications to
eliminate one sideband. See N9029AV99 model for available band pass filters.
Waveguide amplifiers may be required to boost the transmitted signal power out of the up-
converter.
The power supply will be included with the module in the transport case.
To order accessories, see Accessories and Information on page 15.
For more information, see the white paper (PDF) "Applying a Very Wide-Bandwidth Millimeter-
Wave Testbed to Power Amplifier DPD" at

Install the instrument so that the detachable power cord is readily identifiable and is
easily reached by the operator. The detachable power cord is the instrument
disconnecting device. It disconnects the mains circuits from the mains supply before
other parts of the instrument. Alternatively, an externally installed switch or circuit
breaker (which is readily identifiable and is easily reached by the operator) may be
used as a disconnecting device.

Use ESD precautions when using these devices. The IF port for CCDs has
ESD protection, but the IF port for CCUs is extremely ESD sensitive. Do not
apply any DC biases or surges when connecting or disconnecting from the
IF port. Discharge static from cables befor connecting to the device.
Replace the IF with provided 50 Ω termination when IF port is not in use.
Observe the power level you are applying to the LO, IF, and RF
waveguide input ports. Damage will occur if it is not observed.
Before using your converter module, please read all documentation from
VDI (included on the USB drive). It is important to follow the General
Operating Procedures and Guidelines section.
This product has been designed and tested in accordance with accepted
industry standards and has been supplied in a safe condition. The
documentation contains information and warnings that must be followed
by the user to ensure safe operation and to maintain the product in a safe
condition.
Safety and Information
Only Keysight approved accessories shall be used.
Use the Keysight supplied power cord or one with the same or better
electrical rating.
No operator serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified
personnel. To prevent electrical shock do not remove covers.
The Mains wiring and connectors shall be compatible with the
connector used in the premise electrical system. Failure to ensure
adequate earth grounding by not using the correct components may
cause product damage and serious injury.
This instrument has auto-ranging line voltage input. Be sure the
supply voltage is within the specified range and voltage fluctuations
do not to exceed 10 percent of the nominal supply voltage.
The main power cord can be used as the system disconnecting device. It
disconnects the mains circuits from the mains supply.
If this product is not used as specified, the protection provided by the
equipment could be impaired. This product must be used in a normal
condition (in which all means for protection are intact) only.
