FSM21 Front Switch Module
For connection to the FBM38 fieldbus module.
The FSM21 front switch module is used for the direct operation of
1 or 2-stage unit or device switches.
The module functions through macro assignments on the FBM38
fieldbus module. A load/rolling switch with different switching delays can be
set in the macro function.
The FSM21 and FBM38 modules form a single operating unit.

The description contains information for using and installing the FSM21 front switch module.
If you have any questions that are not covered by the device description, contact the supplier or manufacturer for

The specified regulations/guidelines for installation and mounting are applicable for the Federal Republic of

Operating personnel are to be instructed according to the description of the technical data sheet.

Application
The FSM21 front switch module is operated with the FBM38 fieldbus module, and is
used for manual operation of two 1 or 2-stage units, each with two
operating and malfunction message displays per control channel.
A load/rolling switch with switching delays can be set on the FBM38 fieldbus module.
The FSM21 and FBM38 modules form a single operating unit.

Mounting
The FSM21 front switch module can be inserted in the switchboard door or a 19" KA rack.
Two screws are included for mounting the module in a 19" KA rack.
The WAS01 set is available as an accessory for wall mounting.
Mounting on a switchboard or in a 19" KA rack may only be carried out by qualified
technicians. The power must be disconnected from the switchboard.

Danger The FSM21 front switch module is connected to the QB interface of the FBM38 fieldbus module.
The 4-wire QBS connection line can have a maximum length of 200 m.

acro Function
The functions of the two 2 or 1-stage device controls are made by assigning macro 21 on the FBM38 fieldbus
odule.m
Using the macro function, relay outputs K1/K2 and K3/K4 are each controlled on the FBM38 with 2-stage control.
Depending on the switch setting, the relays lock against each other or switch together. A mechanical limitation of the
switch positions can be made by attaching switch stop rings (see the “Switch stop” section).
A
load/rolling switch with different switching delays can be set in macro 21.
Binary inputs 55/IN–58/IN on the FBM38 are defined as malfunction messages by the macro function, and are
hown on the signal LEDs (1.3/1.4, 2.3/2.4) on the FSM21.s
Depending on the operating mode set on the FBM38 ( / ), the following is signaled by the signal LEDs (1.1/1.2,
.1/2.2):

Manual/automatic switch 1 and 2
The relay outputs K1/K2 on the FBM38 are controlled as 2 or 1-stage
using the manual/automatic switch 1 (unit 1, levels 1.1 and 1.2).
The relay outputs K3/K4 on the FBM38 are controlled as 2 or 1-stage
using the manual/automatic switch 2 (unit 2, levels 2.1 and 2.2).
Depending on the FBM setting, the 2-stage relay outputs K1/K2 and K3/K4 in automatic and manual mode each
lock against each other or switch together.
The switching delays apply in the same way when the load/rolling switch is switched on in automatic and manual
operation.
The possible switching positions can be limited by setting the inserted switch stops under the front panel
accordingly (e.g. to 1-stage control of a unit).
Switch stop
A mechanical switch stop is inserted behind the front panel of each automatic/manual switch. This allows the
limitation of switching positions on any switch position.

Green signal LED (1.1/1.2, 2.1/2.2) with “Remote” operating mode activated
Two signal LEDs are found to the right of each manual/automatic switch. They are used to display operating
messages on binary inputs 51/IN–54/IN of the FBM38 (e.g. display of feedback from the connected
devices/units).
The green signal LEDs on the control channels can be switched off as required (see the “LED Settings” section).

ignal LED 1.1: On when binary input 51/IN of the FBM38 switches

ignal LED 1.2: On when binary input 52/IN of the FBM38 switches

ignal LED 2.1: On when binary input 53/IN of the FBM38 switches
Signal LED 2.2: On when binary input 54/IN of the FBM38 switches
Upcoming operating messages are signaled by a constantly lit LED.
If an operating message input does not match the corresponding control signal after 3 seconds have elapsed,
then the signal LEDs begin to flash. The active operating message is signaled by a constantly lit LED when the
operating message input and control signal match.
Green signal LED (1.1/1.2, 2.1/2.2) with “Local” operating mode activated
Two signal LEDs are found to the right of each manual/automatic switch. They are used to display the switching
states of the assigned output relay on the FBM38.
Switched levels lead to a constantly lit green LED.
Delayed switches within the load/rolling switch are signaled by a flashing LED.
The green signal LEDs on the control channels can be switched off as required (see the “LED Settings” section).
Red malfunction message LED (1.3/1.4, 2.3/2.4)
Two red malfunction message LEDs are found to the right underneath each manual/automatic switch. They are
used to display malfunction messages on binary inputs 55/IN–58/IN of the FBM38.

The green signal LEDs can be switched off individually (optional).
The setting is made using a DIP switch behind the front panel of the FSM21. The corresponding DIP switches are
arranged next to the LEDs.

Commissioning
Commissioning may only be carried out by qualified personnel, e.g. a commissioning
technician. The power must be disconnected from the switchboard.
Danger
Check the mounting, installation and device connections with the power disconnected from the FBM38 fieldbus
module and FSM21 front switch module.
Settings on the FBM38 fieldbus module
The device description of the FBM38 fieldbus module must be observed here (Technical Data Sheet 2.50-30.038-
01-en).
– Assign macro 21 using the FSM selector switch .2..
- Adjust the macro functions using DIP switches .3., .4. and .6..
Switch on the power supply and check the switching functions with the messaging and acknowledgement
functions of the FSM21 and FBM38 operating unit.
