Systemdescription
cNODEMiniisafamilyoftranspondersforunderwaterpositioninganddatalinks.
cNODEMiniisdesignedtobeaveryversatilesystemwithmanyinterchangeableparts.
ThetranspondersareoperatedfromAcousticPositionOperatorStation(APOS)withan
acoustictelemetrylinkforcommandanddatatransfer.Thetranspondersarecompatible
withbothHiPAPCymbalacousticprotocolforpositioninganddatalink,andHPR400
channelsandtelemetry.PerformSSBLpositioningwithatotalof52HiPAPCymbal
channelsand56HPR400channels,LBLpositioningandacousticlinkforcommandand
datatransfer.Thetranspondershavebothtransponderandresponderfunctions.
Thetranspondersareratedtoupto7000mwithahousingmadeofstainlesssteel.The
transpondersaredesignedwithamodularconstructionwhichmeansthatthetransducer,
transponderelectronics,batterypackandoptionaladd-on’scanbereplacedindividually
tosuittheoperation.
Atransponderisnormallyaself-containedunit,receivingpowerfromaninternal
rechargeablebatterypack.Thetranspondercanalsobepoweredfromanexternal
powersupply.
Thetransponderunitisdesignedwithamodularconstructionsuchthatthetransponder
electronics,batterypackandoptions(whereapplicable)canbereplacedindividually.
Thetranspondermaybesecuredtoasubseastructureusingmountingbrackets.

Generalsupplyconditions
ThefollowinggeneralsupplyconditionsapplytothisKongsbergcNODEMinidelivery.
Receipt,unpackingandstorage
Uponacceptingshipmentoftheequipment,theshipyardand/orthedealermustensure
thatthedeliveryiscompleteandinspecteachshippingcontainerforevidenceofphysical
damage.
Iftheinspectionrevealsanyindicationofcrushing,dropping,immersioninwateror
anyotherformofdamage,therecipientshouldrequestthatarepresentativefromthe
companyusedtotransporttheequipmentbepresentduringunpacking.
Allequipmentmustbeinspectedforphysicaldamage,i.e.brokencontrolsandindicators,
dents,scratchesetc.duringunpacking.Ifanydamagetotheequipmentisdiscovered,the
recipientmustnotifyboththetransportationcompanyandKongsbergMaritimesothat
KongsbergMaritimecanarrangeforreplacementorrepairofthedamagedequipment.
Onceunpacked,theequipmentmustbestoredinacontrolledenvironmentwithan
atmospherefreeofcorrosiveagents,excessivehumidityortemperatureextremes.
Theequipmentmustbecoveredtoprotectitfromdustandotherformsofcontamination
whenstored.

Chargingthetransponder
ThebatteryischargedinsidethecNODEMini.Thisisconnectedwithsomerisk,please
readtheinformationbelowandfollowthechargeprocedurecarefully.
Prerequisites
Caution
Whenyouarechargingthebatteryensuregoodventilationandstabletemperature.Do
notcoverthetransponder.Noopenre,sparksorsmokinginthearea.
NiMHbatteriescangeneratesomehydrogenandoxygengas,theamountdependingon
certainconditions.Mostoftenthisgenerationoccursduringcharging.
Procedure
1Switchoffthetransponder.
2Climatizethetransponder.
Thebatterymusthaveatemperaturebetween5°Cand40°C.Recommended
chargingtemperatureis25°C.
3Unscrewtheventscrewuntilyoufeelsomeresistance(anylonwasherisforced
againstametalsurface).TheO-ringisnowvisible.
Holdthetransponderinanuprightpositionwhileyoudothis,sothatanywater
dropletscaughtaroundtheventscrewcomesout,ratherthangoinginsidethe
cNODEMini.
4ConnectthechargerplugtotheconnectoronthetranspondermarkedCHARGE.
5ConnectPowersupplytomains(110or220V AC).
6Switchonthecharger.
Thechargermeasuresthebatterystatus;allLEDsemitconstantyellowlight.Ifthe
temperatureisoutofrange,theLEDswillashorange/green.
FastchargestartsandtheLEDsemitconstantorangelight.
WhenthebatteryisfullychargedtheLEDswillbegreenwithayellowash
everyminute.
7Switchoffthecharger.
8Disconnectthechargerplugfromthetransponder.
9Closetheventscrew.
Tightentheventscrewbyhandonly,untilyoufeelarathersuddenresistance.
(aninternalaxialO-ringhitsametalsurface,compresses0.3mm,before2metal
surfacesmeet).Themainatcircularsurfaceoftheendcapshouldnowalignwith
theedgeofasemicirculargroovethatrunsallaroundtheventscrew.Thisisto
visuallyconrmthattheventscrewhasbeenproperlytightened.
