Playing Combinations

followed by the Program/Combi numbers.

patterns.
! Most Programs and Combis include pre-assigned arpeggiator patterns. Try selecting PROGRAM INT-A019 Camera
Strings, and then press the ARP ON/OFF key to turn the Arpeggiator on (lit). Play your controller to hear the pre-assigned
pattern.

The Effects

! REALTIME CONTROL knobs 3 and 4 are set to control insert (3) and master (4) effect wet/dry balance for most Programs
and Combis selected. Try this when working with the Audition Riff function in Program mode.
! Up to 5 stereo insert effects are available in SAMPLING mode, so that you can sample through the insert effects. Once the
multisample is converted to a Program, additional insert effects can then be used in the new Program if desired.
Sampling Overview
16 Mbyte sample memory, expandable to 96 MB with SIMM modules (3 slots); 48k/16 bit linear mono and stereo sampling-
up to 1000 multisamples/4000 samples; compatible with AIFF, WAVE, AKAI S1000/3000, Korg sample formats
Additional Features:
• Sampling time: Fully expanded, the TRITON-Rack allows for up to 17 minutes/28 seconds of sampling time.
• Visual Waveform Editing: TouchView display makes viewing and editing sample data easy! Zoom in and out; quickly-set loop
editing points; use the Grid display based on BPM tempo values, etc.
• Time Slice: Detects attack impulses of sample and cuts up into smaller elements – useful for dividing up a rhythm loop to
change tempo without affecting pitch and visa versa. Source BPM (beats per measure) of the sample data can be manually or
automatically.
• Crossfade Loop: Smooths out irregularities in long loops – useful for reducing clicks and pops that may occur at the loop point.

Multi Mode
Up to 200 16-part Multis can becreated, for use with external sequencers; Triton song (.SNG) data can be loaded as track
templates into Multi mode, including pattern and RPPR data, plus SMF patterns; Songs can be loaded into DEMO/SONG
mode as factory and user song play demos

RPPR (Real Time Pattern Play Record) Mode
Assign patterns to each note of a controller keyboard and trigger in real time, record 1 RPPR set per Multi; 150 preset
patterns, 100 user patterns; approximately 140,000 note internal memory in Multi

“T01:Drums 1” and “RPPR” box (upper-right) is checked, and that controller is set to transmit on MIDI channel 1.
3. Play notes above C#2 on controller to trigger patterns assigned to this RPPR set. Note that pressing a note (C1 – C2) will
stop pattern playback (Shutdown keys).
! Up to 72 patterns (preset and/or user) can be assigned across the controller keyboard. Notes where patterns are not
assigned will play normally. For instance, you could assign RPPR drum and bass patterns to the lower range, and play live
organ/lead sounds in the upper range.
! Create new samples, time slice, create a pattern, and then assign to an RPPR set!

TRITON Rack Main Features
• The powerful sound and sampling functionality of the TRITON Music Workstation / Sampler in a 2-space rack module.
• The number of possible Programs and Combinations has been expanded to 2057 Programs and 1664 Combinations.
• In addition to S/PDIF digital output, you can add 6 channels of ADAT-compatible output with the optional EXB-DI
Digital Interface Board.
• The TRITON-Rack is the first Korg product to offer optional support for mLAN – the new and powerful digital network
designed for musical applications.
• A total of eight EXB-PCM expansion boards can be installed, each with its own dedicated Bank for Programs and
Combinations.
• Three SIMM modules can be installed to expand the sampling memory to 96 Mbytes.
• The Audition Riff function provides over 350 riffs appropriate fordifferent types of sound, to easily try out sounds right
from the front panel, without an external keyboard.
• TRITON song data can be played back with theTRITON-Rack DEMO/SONG mode, and loaded via floppy disk or
optional EXB-SCSI Interface Board and an external drive.
TRITON Rack available options
• EXB-MOSS DSP Synthesizer Board: 13 oscillator, 6-voice MOSS (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System) allows many types of
physical modeling, plus VPM (variable phase modulation) synthesis. MOSS Programs can be used with PCM Programs in
Combinations or Multis. 128 MOSS Programs and 63 MOSS Combinations added when installed.
• EXB-DI Digital Interface Board: Adds ADAT optical connectors (6 channels) to the TRITON-Rack.
• EXB-mLAN Interface Board: Allows connection to other mLAN-compatible electronic musical instruments and computers,
allowing high-volume transmission and reception of audio and MIDI data.
• EXB-SCSI Interface Board: Allows you to save and load TRITON series data via an external SCSI device. You can also load
AKAI (S1000/3000) sample and program files, and Korg, AIFF, or WAVE format sample files. Internal TRITON-Rack sampling data
can be exported as AIFF or WAVE format sample files for further editing on computer-based systems.
• EXB-PCM Expansion Boards : Each provides 16 Mbyte of new PCM sounds plus a disk with Programs, Combinations,
Arpeggio and RPPR patterns.

Disk Load procedures
To load and play the Factory Demos into DEMO/Song mode:

! If you need to re-load the factory Program, Combination and Global data from disk, follow the same procedure as above,
only navigate to and load the file on the TNRFD00P disk: “PRELOAD.PCG”.
! Be aware that the above load procedures will overwrite any demo song, Multi or .PCG data in internal memory!
A word about the TNRFD01P disk: This disk contains the sample data used for the demo song “Deep Cut” (DCUT_SMP.KSC). Navigate to this
“.KSC” (Korg Script) file and load the data as above in order to have this sample data playback in the song. Note that this will overwrite internal
sample data you’ve loaded, unless you set the “KSC Allocation: Clear” to “Append”. For more information, see the TRITON-Rack Owner’s Manual,
page 80 (Disk Mode).
How to load the Factory sounds and demo songs: From time to time you’ll need to reload the factory data to internal memory. The TRITON-
Rack ships with two disks: TNRFD00P and TNRFD01P. Locate both disks for the following steps:
1. Clear internal memory by powering OFF, then ON the TRITON-Rack. This will clear the current Sample Ram and Multi
areas. Be aware that the following procedure will also overwrite all Demo Songs currently in memory. Note: If you have
custom sounds, songs or sample data loaded, make sure that this data is backed up to disk before proceeding (see
TRITON-Rack Owner’s Manual page83 for more information).

Playback the Demo Song:
6. Press the DEMO/SONG key, then press F5 key (below START) to playback the demo song “Deep Cut”. After the song is
finished, press F6 key (below STOP) to stop playback. The song will remain in memory and can be played back even after
power-off, but remember that you will then need to reload the sample data.
