Thanks for using Lenovo USB-C Dock (Windows Only) / ThinkPad Universal USB-C Dock / ThinkPad
Universal USB-C Dock v2 / ThinkPad Universal USB-C Smar Dock. Illus ra ions in his documen a ion migh

The dock is an enhanced and versa ile docking solu ion o help you expand your compu er. You can use i o
connec your compu er o a local area ne work (LAN) and mul iple devices, such as a headse , ex ernal
displays, and Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices.

Inst ll the dock
Use he accompanying ac power adap er, power cord, and USB-C cable o ins all he dock. The dock
supplies power o he compu er when he dock is connec ed o ac power and your compu er.
Inst ll the dock driver nd firmw re
The dock driver and firmware is preins alled on compa ible compu ers and he dock is ready for use af er you
connec i o ac power and compu er.
I is recommended ha you upda e he dock driver and firmware whenever a new version is available o
improve performance of he dock.
To upda e he dock firmware:
1. Go o h ps://www.lenovo.com/suppor /docks.
2. Selec he en ry for he dock and hen follow he on-screen ins ruc ions o download he firmware.
3. When he indica or on he dock power bu on urns o solid whi e, he upda e is comple ed. The upda e
akes effec when you reconnec he dock o your compu er.

The Lenovo Dock Manager is an advanced solu ion ha provides device queries, firmware ins alla ion and
firmware upda es in silen mode.

Silent mode
• Silen ins alla ion allows firmware deploymen , firmware download, firmware ins alla ion o proceed in
silen mode, wi hou having o no ify end user.

Use the video output connectors
The dock has hree video ou pu connec ors o suppor up o hree ex ernal displays:
• Two DisplayPor connec ors (suppor DisplayPor 1.4)
• One HDMI connec or (suppor s HDMI 2.0)
Note: For ThinkPad Universal USB-C Dock v2, he HDMI connec or suppor s HDMI 2.1.

Configure the extern l displ ys
You can configure he ex ernal displays connec ed o your dock:
• Se he display mode: ex end, mirror or duplica e, or single display.
• Se he orien a ion, brigh ness, resolu ion, color, and more.
To configure he ex ernal displays:
1. Righ -click a blank area on he desk op and selec Displ y settings.
2. Selec he display ha you wan o configure.
3. Configure display se ings of your preference.

Use the Ethernet connector
You can use he E herne connec or on he dock o connec your compu er o a s andard 10 Mbps, 100
Mbps, or 1000 Mbps ne work wi h an E herne cable.
The E herne connec or has wo ne work s a us indica ors. When he green indica or is on, he compu er is
connec ed o a LAN. When he yellow indica or blinks, da a is being ransmi ed.

Depending on your compu er, some of he following func ions are available when he dock is connec ed o a
LAN.
• Preboo eXecu ion Environmen
• MAC address Pass Through
• Wake on LAN
• Wake on LAN from Dock

Ch pter 4. Troubleshooting
Gener l
1. The dock does not work fter connected to my computer.
Ensure ha :
• You use he accompanying ac power adap er, power cord, and USB-C cable.
• The dock is powered by i s power adap er. The dock always needs an ex ernal power adap er for
opera ion.
• The dock driver is ins alled on your compu er.
• The USB-C connec or on your compu er works well.
2. The function of wireless keybo rd or mouse (2.4 GHz) is interrupted. The mouse pointer l gs or
does not move. Some ch r cters re lost when I input by the keybo rd.
Connec he wireless device receiver o a USB 2.0 connec or on he dock.
3. The mouse or keybo rd c nnot w ke up my computer when connected to the Alw ys On USB 3.2
connector Gen 2 on the dock.
Connec he mouse or keyboard o a USB 2.0 connec or on he dock.
4. The ch rging speed for my device, such s sm rtphone, is slow.
Connec your device o he Always On USB 3.2 connec or Gen 2 on he dock.
5. My computer c nnot be ch rged by the dock.
Ensure ha :
• You use he accompanying ac power adap er, power cord, and USB-C cable o se up he dock.
• The USB-C connec or on your compu er suppor s ac inpu .
Video output
1. The extern l displ y is bl nk.
• Ensure ha :
– Your compu er is running correc ly and is no in sleep or hiberna ion mode. When he compu er is
in sleep or hiberna ion mode, he ex ernal display is always blank.
– The dock is securely connec ed o ac power, compu er, and ex ernal display.
– The dock driver is ins alled on your compu er.
• Reduce he resolu ion of he ex ernal display.
If he problem persis s, disconnec all cables from he dock, and unins all he dock driver. Then, reins all
he dock driver and reconnec all cables o he dock. See Chap er 2 “Se up he dock” on page 5.
2. I c nnot pl y b ck videos on the extern l displ y but c n pl y them b ck on the computer screen.
Some compu ers do no suppor High-bandwid h Digi al-con en Copy Pro ec ion (HDCP), so you
canno play back pro ec ed videos on he ex ernal display connec ed o he dock.
To play back videos on he ex ernal display, connec he ex ernal display o a DisplayPor or HDMI
connec or on your compu er. Then, se he display mode in o ex end mode or single-display mode from
your compu er. See “Configure he ex ernal displays” on page 7.
3. The im ges on the extern l displ y flutter.
• Ensure ha he display cable is securely connec ed o he dock.

• Disconnec and reconnec he display cable.
4. The colors of the im ges on the extern l displ y re not correct.
• Ensure ha he display cable is securely connec ed o he dock.
• Adjus color se ings of he ex ernal display. See “Configure he ex ernal displays” on page 7.
5. The computer c n pl y b ck fl sh content. However, when I dr g the window to the extern l
displ y nd m ximize the window, the pl yb ck stops.
