ThedockisaportableexpansionmodulethatenablesoutoeasilconnectourcomputertotheEthernet
andmultipledevices,suchasaheadset,amonitor,andUniversalSerialBus(USB)devices.
YoucansetupourworkareabconnectingourcomputertothedockwithaUSB-Ccable,connecting
multipledevicestothedock,andconfiguringthedockonourcomputer.Then,ouarereadtousethe
multipledeviceseachtimeouconnectourcomputertothedock.Thedockcanalsosupplpowertoour

TheLenovocomputerwithUSB-Cconnectorshasthedockdevicedriverpreinstalled.Inthissituation,the
dockisreadforuseafterouconnectittoanacpowersourceandourcomputer.Forthedetailed

Thedockexpandstheconnectioncapabilitofourcomputer.Youcanconnectdevicestotheappropriate
connectorsonthedockafterourcomputeristurnedon.Normallittakesseveralsecondsforthecomputer
torecognizenewdevices.
Thedocksimplifiestheconnectionbetweenourcomputerandmultipledevices.Forexample,oucan
connecttheUSBdevicesandexternalmonitorstothedockratherthanthecomputer.Whenouwantto
takeourcomputerawa,oucandisconnectthecomputerfromthedockratherthanremovetheUSB
devicesandexternalmonitors.Whenoucomeback,simplconnectourcomputertothedocktoresume
allpreviousconnectionsandstartworkingatonce.
Usingthehedsetndmicrophonecomboconnector
Theheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthedockisa3.5-mm(0.14-inch)microphonecombined
stereoline-outconnector.Itworksforthestandard3.5-mm(0.14-inch)headset,microphone,orspeaker.
Note:Theheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoronthedockareautomaticallenabledafterou
havesuccessfullconnectedthedocktoourcomputerandinstalledthedevicedriver.However,ifou
cannothearanthingfromtheheadsetconnectedtothedock,oucanmanuallenabletheheadsetand
microphonecomboconnectoronthedock.See“Manuallenablingtheheadsetandmicrophonecombo
connector”onpage11formoreinformation.
UsingtheEthernetconnector
TousetheEthernetconnectoronthedock,connectthedocktoastandard10Mbps,100Mbps,or1000
Mbpsnetwork.
TheEthernetconnectiononthedocksupportsthefollowingfunctions:
•ThinkVantageAccessConnections(Windows7onl)
AccessConnectionsisaconnectivitassistantprogramforcreatingandmanaginglocationprofiles.
EachlocationprofilestoresallthenetworkandInternetconfigurationsettingsneededforconnecting
toanetworkinfrastructurefromaspecificlocationsuchasahomeoranoffice.Bswitchingbetween
locationprofilesasoumoveourcomputerfromplacetoplace,oucanquicklandeasilconnecttoa
networkwithnoneedtomanuallreconfigureoursettingsandrestartthecomputereachtime.
•PrebooteXecutionEnvironment(supportedonsomeLenovocomputers)
ThePXEtechnologmakesthecomputermoremanageablebenablingthecomputertostartfroma

ThenetworkadministratorcanturnonacomputerfromamanagementconsolebusingtheWakeon
LANfunction.WhentheWakeonLANfunctionisenabled,manoperations,suchasdatatransfer,
softwareupdates,andflashupdatesoftheUEFIBIOS,canbedoneremotelwithoutremoteattendance.
Theupdatingprocesscanperformafternormalworkinghoursandonweekends,sothattheusersarenot
interruptedduringwork,andtheLANtrafficiskepttoaminimum.Itsavestimeandincreasesproductivit.
Note:YoucanenablethePXEfunction,theMACaddressPassThroughfunction,andtheWakeonLAN
functionthroughconfiguringtheBIOSonourcomputer.FormoreinformationaboutconfiguringtheBIOS,
refertotheuserguidethatcomeswithourcomputer.

Whenthedockisintheextendmode,itsplitsourdisplaacrosstwomonitors.Yourcomputermonitor
becomestheprimardisplaandtheexternalmonitorbecomesthesecondardispla.Bdefault,the
externalmonitordisplaisontherightsideofthecomputermonitordispla.

Thischapterprovidessometroubleshootinghintsandtipstoassistouifouexperienceanproblemswith
thedock.Checkthefollowingitemsfirsttotrtosolvetheproblem.
Generl
1.ThedockdoesnotworkfterconnectedtocomputerwiththeprovidedUSB-Ccble.
•Ensurethatthedockiscorrectlconnectedtothepoweradapter.Thedockalwasneedsexternal
poweradapterforoperation,becauseitdoesnotgetpowersupplfromtheUSBconnectorattached
toourcomputer.
•Ensurethatthedevicedriverofthedockisinstalled;ifnot,installthedevicedriverandrestartthe
computer.
2.The2.4GHzwirelesskeybordor2.4GHzwirelessmousefunctionisinterrupted.Themouse
pointerlgsoritcnnotmove.Somechrctersrelostwhenyouinputbythekeybord.
Itisrecommendedthatouconnectour2.4GHzdevicereceivertothefrontUSB3.0connectoronthe
dockandavoidconnectinganotherUSB3.0devicenexttotheconnectorwiththereceiverattached.
3.Thechrgingspeedbecomesslow,fterIconnectmydevice(suchsmobilephone)tothe
dockforchrging.
EnsurethatouconnectourmobilephonetotheAlwasOnUSB3.0connector.Disconnectthedock
fromthecomputer,thechargingspeedmightbecomefaster.
4.ThemobilephonesorotherUSBdevicescnnotbechrgedwhenconnectedtotheAlwysOn
USB3.0connector.
Itisrecommendedthatoucandisconnectthedockfromthecomputer,andthenoucanchargethe
mobilephonesorotherUSBdevices.
5.ThemousendkeybordcnnotwkeupmycomputerwhenconnectedtotheAlwysOn
USB3.0connector.
EnsurethatouconnectourkeboardandmousetootherUSBconnectorsonthedockinstead
oftheAlwasOnUSB3.0connector.
6.Thecomputerisnotchrgedfterconnectedtothedock.
Ensurethatouusethepoweradapterthatshippedwiththedock.
Videooutput
1.Theexternlmonitordisplyisblnk.
•Ensurethatthecomputerconnectedtothedockisrunningcorrectlandisnotinstandbor
hibernationmode.Whenthecomputerisinstandborhibernationmode,theexternalmonitor
displaisalwasblank.
•Ensurethatthedevicedriverisinstalledfollowingtheinstallationinstructions.
•Ensurethatthefollowingconnectionsarecorrect:
–TheconnectionbetweentheUSB-Ccableandourcomputer
–TheconnectionbetweentheUSB-Ccableandthedock
–Theconnectionamongthepoweradapter,thedock,andtheelectricaloutlet
–Theconnectionbetweenourvideocabletothedockandtheexternalmonitor.
Iftheproblempersists,disconnectallconnectionsofthedock,anduninstallthedockdevicedriver.
Then,reinstallthedevicedriverandthedock.

2.Icnnotplybckvideosontheexternlmonitorbutcnplythembckonthecomputer
monitor.
SomecomputersdonotsupporttheCertifiedOutputProtectionProtocol(COPP),andouwillnotbe
abletoplabacktheprotectedvideosontheexternalmonitorconnectedtothedock.
Toplabackvideosontheexternalmonitor,oucanconnecttheexternalmonitortotheVGAorDP
connectoronourcomputer,andextendthedisplatotheexternalmonitor.Formoreinformationabout
configuringthedisplasettings,seeChapter4“Workingwiththedock”onpage9.
3.Theimgesontheexternlmonitorflutter.
Checkthedisplaresolutionsettingofthecomputerandensurethattheresolutionissupportedb
thedock.
4.Theimgesontheexternlmonitorrenotincorrectcolors.
Checkthecolorqualitoftheexternalmonitorandadjustthecolortothecorrectcolor.See“Settingthe
colorqualitoftheexternalmonitor”onpage12.
5.ThecomputercnplybckWebflshes.However,whenIdrgthewindowtotheexternl
monitorndmximizetheplybckwindow,theplybckstops.
Tosolvetheproblem,updateourAdobeFlashPlaertothelatestversion.
6.Theexternlmonitordisplyisblnk,ortheimgesontheexternlmonitorflutter.
Connectoneortwoexternalmonitorsatatime.Itisnotrecommendedthatouconnectthreeexternal
monitors.
Audio
IcnnothernythingthroughmycomputerspekersorIcnnotusetheudioconnectorsonthe
computer.
Bdefault,ThinkPadandotherLenovocomputersusetheheadsetandmicrophonecomboconnectoron
thedockanddisablebuilt-inaudioconnectorswhenthedockisconnected.
Toenablethebuilt-inaudioconnectorsonourcomputer,dothefollowing:
1.Right-clicktheVolumeiconintheWindowsnotificationarea.
2.SelectSounds,andtheSoundwindowisdisplaed.
3.ClickthePlybcktabtoselectabuilt-inaudiodevice,andthenclicktheRecordingtabtoselect
anotherbuilt-inaudiodevice.
