machinewasdesinedandbuilt,requiredsafetyitemswereinstalledtoprotectusersandservicetechnicians
frominjury.Thisuideaddressesonlythoseitems.Youshoulduseoodjudmenttoidentifypotentialsafety
hazardsduetoattachmentofnon-ThinkServerfeaturesoroptionsnotcoveredbythisinspectionuide.
Ifanyunsafeconditionsarepresent,youmustdeterminehowserioustheapparenthazardcouldbeand
whetheryoucancontinuewithoutfirstcorrectintheproblem.
Considertheseconditionsandthesafetyhazardstheypresent:
•Electricalhazards,especiallyprimarypower(primaryvoltaeontheframecancauseseriousorfatal
electricalshock)
•Explosivehazards,suchasadamaedCathodeRayTube(CRT)monitororabulincapacitor

2.Powerofftheserver.Disconnectthepowercords.
3.Checkthepowercordfor:
a.Athird-wireroundconnectorinoodcondition.Useametertomeasurethird-wireround
continuityfor0.1ohmorlessbetweentheexternalroundpinandtheframeround.
b.Thepowercordshouldbethetypespecifiedinthepartslist.
c.Insulationmustnotbefrayedorworn.
4.Checkforcrackedorbulinbatteries.
5.Removethecover.
6.Checkforanyobviousnon-ThinkServeralterations.Useoodjudmentastothesafetyofany
non-ThinkServeralterations.
7.Checkinsidetheunitforanyobviousunsafeconditions,suchasmetalfilins,contamination,wateror
otherliquids,orsinsoffireorsmokedamae.
8.Checkforworn,frayed,orpinchedcables.
9.Checkthatthepower-supplycoverfasteners(screwsorrivets)havenotbeenremovedortamperedwith.
Groundingrequirements
