1Unpack printer
Notes:
•Place the printer near the computer
during setup. If you're setting up on
a wireless network, then you may
move the printer after setup is
complete.
•Do not attach the USB cable until
prompted to do so.
•The packaged printhead is shipped
inside the printer.
•Contents may vary by model and
region.
2Remove tape and packing material from all areas of the
printer

3Raise paper support

5Open printer and remove packaged printhead from
printer
6If necessary, insert correct (1) language overlay and install
(2) protective cover

7Lock the protective cover in place
8Close printer

9Use lever to extend paper guides
10 Load paper
Note: Use the lever to adjust the paper
guides.

11 Extend paper exit tray
12 Connect power cord only
Note: DO NOT attach the USB cable yet.

13 Make sure printer is on

14 Set language
1Using the printer control panel, press
or until the language you want
appears on the display.
2Press OK to save.
15 Set country/region
1Using the printer control panel, press
or until the country or region you
want is highlighted on the display.
2Press OK to save.
16 Set up fax
1Using the printer control panel, press
or until Yes appears on the
display.

17 Set date and time
1Using the keypad on the printer
control panel, set the date. Press
or toscrollbetweenthe month,day,
and year. Date format varies
depending on selected country or
region.
2Press OK.
3Using the keypad on the printer
control panel, set the time. Press
or to scroll between the hours,
minutes, and time format. Press or
to choose a time format.
4Press OK to save.
18 Enter fax number and fax name for your printer
1Using the keypad on the printer
control panel, enter your fax number.
2Press OK to save.

control panel, enter the fax name for
your printer.
4Press OK to save.
19 Open printer and remove any tape from latch
Note: The carriage moves to the
printhead installation position as shown.

20 Squeeze and lift latch
21 Remove printhead from the disposable container
22 Insert printhead and close latch until it clicks

23 Close printer
24 Open printer
Note: The printhead moves to the
cartridge installation position as shown.

25 First, insert each color ink cartridge. Then, use two hands
to install black cartridge.
26 Close printer

27 Press OK to print alignment page
Notes:
•Do not remove the page until
printing stops. The alignment page
may take a while to print and will
move in and out during the process.
•Streaks on the alignment page are
normal and not an indication of a
problem.
•The alignment page that prints may
differ from the one shown.
•Recycle the alignment page.
