Welcome to your new phone, designed for Vodafone
live! with 3G.
Life is short, so we’ll assume that you’ve used a
mobile phone before. This quick guide will just
focus on the things that might be different.
We’ll also show you some
of the other features and
services that you can use
to make the most of now.

Setting up your phone
Before you can start exploring your new
phone, you’ll need to set it up.
Insert your Vodafone SIM card as shown.
Make sure the gold contacts and the cut-
off corner are positioned correctly.
Insert a memory card as shown (if one
is supplied). This increases the phone’s
memory.
Replace the battery as shown, and charge
it if necessary. See the User Guide for full
details on charging.
Press and hold the side key to turn
it on (or off).

What the keys do
The navigation key. In the Home
screen, press it in [OK] to open the
main Menu. Press it up pfor Ring
proles, right ufor Calendar,
down qfor Contacts, and left tfor
Messaging.
The Call key makes and answers
calls. In the Home screen, it opens
Call history.
The soft keys select the options on
the bottom left or right of the screen.
The Clear key. Deletes text and
numbers. You can also press this to
take you back to a previous screen.

Charger/headphones port
The End key ends calls. Press it to
return to the Home screen.
The Menu key. This takes you to
the main menu. Press and hold it to
switch between open applications.
The Music player key.
Touch screen: When you close the
phone, the touch screen will be
disabled. To enable it again, press the
volume keys twice.

Entering text
Switching text entry modes
To switch between predictive text [T9],
multitap [Abc], and numbers [123], press
the #key repeatedly.
Pressing the #key also cycles through
the different upper and lower case
options in the text entry modes.
Predictive text
If you’re happy with a word or letter
combination, press the navigation key u
to OK it.
To see the other word or letter options,
press the *key.
Symbols and numbers
Press the 1key repeatedly for commonly-

Different phones sometimes use
different ways of entering text, but it
doesn’t take long to get used to it.
used symbols (in predictive text mode

For other symbols press the *key.
Press the 0key for a space.

Other differences
Turn silent mode on
To switch to silent (vibrate only) mode, press
and hold the #key when you’re in the
Home screen. To turn your ringtone back on,
press and hold it again.
Create a new ring prole
To make a new ring prole (or edit an existing
one), go to Menu > Settings > Phone
settings > Proles. Select Customised 1 >
Options > Edit, then enter the new details.
You can then activate it from the Home
screen by pressing p.
3G (also known as UMTS)
The Vodafone 3G network is a completely
new, faster mobile network. As well as letting
you make video calls, you should also nd
that downloads are signicantly quicker,

live! and the mobile internet should be much
snappier.
So you can do a lot more in the ve minutes
before the train arrives.
To nd out if you’re in a 3G area, look for
the 3G symbol in the upper menu bar
of the screen.
You’ll still be able to use the existing 2.5G
network at all other times.

Making voice and video calls
Choose a contact or enter a number
Press qto open your contacts list, and
choose a number to call (it must be a 3G
mobile number to receive a video call,
and you must be in a 3G area).
Press the key. This opens your call
history, so you can choose a recent
number.
Enter a number using the keypad.
Make a voice or video call
Press the key to make a voice call.
Press Menu > Make video call to make a
video call. If the 3G network isn’t available,
you can choose to make a voice call
instead.
During a video call you’ll automatically be

Adjust a video call
Press Options for settings and other options,
such as swapping screens, and turning the
camera on and off.
Answer a call
Open the phone.
Press the key if the phone’s already
open.
You’ll see an on-screen alert if there’s an
incoming video call.

Using the camera
Amazing things happen around us every day.
With your phone’s megapixel camera, now
it’s easy to capture that moment. And it’s just
as easy to share it.
Turn the camera on
Go to Menu > Camera > Camera from the
Home screen.
Press the navigation key qpto zoom in
and out. Note that zoom isn’t available at
maximum resolution.
Take a photo
Press OK.
The photo is automatically saved in Menu
> My Files > Pictures.
Press Options > Delete to delete it. Press
OK to take another photo.

Send your photo
You can send your photo in a message to
another mobile, or to an email address. See
the Messaging section for more details.
Press Send.•

Camera settings
To change other settings, press Options
when the camera is active.
Use the tukeys to choose from a range
of different options, then use the qp
keys to choose the setting you want.
Large photo sizes will be automatically
resized when sending in a message.
Take a video
To turn on the video recorder, go to Menu
> Camera > Video recorder, or press uif
you’re already in camera mode.
Press OK to start recording, and press it
again to stop.
Press Options > Go to Videos to play it.

You can then send your video, or press OK
to record another one.
Video settings
To change other settings, press Options.
Videos are saved in Menu > My Files >
Videos.

Choose Pictures or Videos. Select a
photo or video clip, then press OK. Note: if
you add a video clip then you may not be
able to add anything else.
You can also add sounds or new pictures
and videos using Insert.
To see how your message will appear,
press Options > Preview.
To delete something, press Options >
Remove.

Sending messages
The best time to share your thoughts,
photos and videos is now.
Creating a multimedia message (MMS) is just
like writing a text message – but now you
can add photos, videos or sounds as well. So
now you can show as well as tell...
Start a new message
Press tin the Home screen, or go to
Menu > Messaging. Choose Create new
> Message.
Add text
Just write your message using the
keypad.
To send your message just as an SMS,
press Continue.
Add more
Press Options > Insert.

Send your message
Press Continue.
To send to someone in
your contact list, choose
One contact, then
choose a contact name
(make sure you select a
mobile number). Then
press OK.
To send to someone new, choose Enter
Number. Or to send to more than one
person, choose Multiple contacts.
Then press Send.
Note:

your eye, and send it to a friend saying

If you’re sending an
MMS to someone
whose mobile isn’t
MMS compatible,
they’ll be sent a
web address that
they can view your
message on.

Exploring Vodafone live!
Vodafone live! is your home page on the
mobile internet. In most cases it’s free to
look around, and you’ll nd everything from
news, sport and weather to downloads,
music and TV gossip there.
The simplest way to see how it works is just
to browse around it.
Connect to Vodafone live!
Simply press [ live! ] in the Home
screen.
To open a link, select it and press OK.
To go back to a previous page, press .
To go to a new page, press Options >
Enter address.
To exit Vodafone live!, press .

Now you don’t need to wait until you
get home to nd cool stuff on the
web.
Use bookmarks
You can save and revisit pages just like a web
browser.
To save a page, press Options >
Bookmarks > Add to bookmarks.
To go to a saved page, press Options >
Bookmarks.
To see your bookmarks without
connecting, go to the main Menu >
Vodafone live! > Bookmarks.
Note: when you’re in a 3G area you should
also nd that you have even more to choose
from.

Downloading stuff
You can either download stuff while
browsing Vodafone live!, or by using your
phone’s built-in links. Either way, the process
is simple, as any charges are billed to your
phone.
Don’t worry, you’ll always see how much it
is, and you’ll always be asked to conrm that
you want to go ahead.
Download from a built-in link
Each folder in My Files contains links to the
appropriate downloads section in Vodafone
live!.
For example, to download a new ringtone:
Open the main Menu > My Files >
Sounds.
Select Download ringtones, then

Make your phone all your own by
downloading new ringtones, games,
music, wallpapers and more.
choose a ringtone to download from the
thousands available. You’ll usually be able
to hear it rst.
Follow the onscreen instructions to
download it. It will be saved on your
phone in My Files > Sounds.
Use your download
Find your download in My Files, and then
highlight it.
To set a sound as your new ringtone,
highlight it and press Options > Sound
theme > Voice Ringtone.
To set a picture as your new background
wallpaper, highlight it and press Options
> Display > Home screen.

Other features and services
Vodafone Full Track Music Downloads
Now you can download music whenever you
want. Go to My Files > Sounds > Download
music. Choose from a huge selection of
current and classic tracks. Only in a 3G area.
Vodafone Mobile TV
Sometimes you just want to watch TV on
your phone. Vodafone has a great selection:
go to Menu > Entertainment > Mobile TV.
Only in a 3G area.
Music player
Your phone is also a portable music player.
You can download music from Vodafone live!
or transfer it to the memory card.
Go to Menu > Music > Music store to
download and own more music.

Find out about a few other things
you can do with your phone that you
might not discover otherwise.
To create a new playlist, press Menu >
Music > Playlists > Add. Enter a name for
it, then add the tracks you want.
Choose your playlist and press Play.
Using the controls:
With the phone closed, connect your
headphones.
To open the music player, press the
key .
Use the OK key to play or pause a track,
and the tukeys to fast forward or
rewind.
Press and hold the tukeys to skip or go
back to a track.

More services
live! Postcard
Send a picture from your phone as a real
postcard. This is one of the Send options
when you take a photo. Vodafone will have it
printed and delivered by mail.
Vodafone Addressbook
Back up your contact list over the air to an
online storage space. You can then update
it, or restore it onto a new phone if yours
is lost or replaced. This is usually found
in your contacts options menu, in the
synchronisation section.
Vodafone Messenger
Chat with your Instant Messenging friends as
though you were still on your computer. This
is usually in the Messaging section. See the
User Guide for setup details.
There are many other Vodafone services that you may be able to use with your
phone. Some services are not yet available in every country or on every phone.
Please see the User Guide or your local Vodafone website to nd out more.
Ticker
Get rolling headlines for your favourite
subjects on your Home screen. You can then
get more details from Vodafone live!
