No. 264 Operating Forklift Platform
71-4000-250 7/00
©2000 Lionel LLC, Chesterfield, MI 48051-1956
Congratulations on your purchase of the No. 264 Operating Forklift
Platform. The Operating Forklift Platform is made of detail-molded
plastic and stamped metal construction. This product now features a
can motor for years of reliable operation. Your Operating Forklift Platform
can be placed on any Lionel O or O-27 gauge three-rail layout and is
designed to operate at 12 - 18 volts alternating current.
Operation of your Operating Forklift Platform
Your Operating Forklift Platform consists of the platform equipped with
a miniature forklift truck and operates with one No. 6264-style flatcar (sold
separately) loaded with timbers. Packaged with your Operating Forklift
Platform are the following components:
1 Boom
1 Forklift
1 190-001 Slide Switch
17 Pieces of Timber
3 Green Insulated Wires
The platform can be installed along any straight stretch of track at least
two track sections in length. The track should lie in the channel or track
bed provided. There are three holes provided in the base to secure your
Operating Forklift Platform to your layout.
To unload your 6264 flatcar with timbers, the flatcar must be brought
into position so that the slot in the truck platform, which guides the fork-
lift, is aligned to the center of one set of timbers. The metal stakes on the
side of the car facing the platform must be removed before you begin
unloading. As the button on the slide switch is depressed, the forklift will
lift one timber from the flatcar and deliver it to the unloading platform.
The action is repeated until all of the timbers on one side of the flatcar are
unloaded. The flatcar must then be moved over until the second stack of
timbers is in line with the motion of the forklift, and you can now continue
unloading the remaining timbers on the car.
Note: After a long period of operation or storage, you may find that the
forklift hesitates or stops at some point of its motion. In this case, lift the
forklift off of the guide pin and clean the bottom of the forklift and truck
platform with a dry cloth.
Note: To prevent the timbers from “riding up” over the side of the car as
they are picked up by the forklift, the stakes along the side of the flatcar
should be assembled with the flat sides inward, toward the load. Please see
the diagram below.
Minor Assembly of your Operating Forklift Platform
After placing your Operating Forklift Platform on your layout, there are
a few components that you will have to assemble to your Operating
Forklift Platform. These components would be the boom and forklift
which can be found in your packaging. To assemble the boom to your
Operating Forklift Platform, simply snap your boom into the hole located
in the center of the platform. Please see the diagram below.
TIP: If the forklift hesitates or sticks to the platform, apply a coat of car wax to the platform and buff out. Do NOT apply wax to the bottom of the forklift.
Before assembling the forklift to your Operating Forklift Platform, wipe
the bottom of the forklift and the truck platform with a dry cloth. After
doing this, simply lower the forklift into position so that the hole in its
bottom fits over the guide pin. You are now ready to wire your Operating
Forklift Platform.
Wiring your Operating Forklift Platform
Your Operating Forklift Platform will operate best on 12 - 18 VAC. It
can be powered using track power or a separate accessory power supply. To
wire your Operating Forklift Platform, connect one green insulated wire
from one thumbscrew post to the “U” terminal of your track power supply
(if using track power) or a separate accessory power supply. This is done
by unscrewing the nut off of the thumbscrew post, placing the wire
through the hole in the post, and tightening the nut back onto the post to
secure the wire in place. Connect the second wire from the other thumb-
screw post to one end of your slide switch. Finally, connect the last wire
from the other side of your slide switch to the “A” terminal of your track
power supply (if using track power) or a separate accessory power supply.
You are now ready to begin unloading timbers from your 6264 flatcar.
Operating your Operating Forklift Platform in a Command
Control Environment
Your Operating Forklift Platform can be used in a Command Control
environment with the use of an SC-2. Due to its limitations, you will not
be able to operate this accessory with an SC-1. To connect your Operating
Forklift Platform to an SC-2, connect a wire from one thumbscrew post to
the Accessory 1 position (or the next available position on your SC-2).
Next, connect another insulated wire from the common post on our SC-2
to the “U” terminal on your separate accessory power supply. Finally, con-
nect another insulated wire from the other thumbscrew post to the “A” ter-
minal on your separate accessory power supply. You can now use the AUX
2 button on your CAB-1 to begin unloading timbers. For more information
regarding the use of the SC-2, please refer to your SC-2 Switch and
Accessory Guide (672-2980-250).
