PRELIMINARY INSPECTION: after you have removed the external packaging, visually inspect the
unit to make sure it has suffered no damage during shipping. If any damage is visible, inform a
dealer as soon as possible, no later than ten days from the delivery date.
3. Application
Our pressure booster sets are suitable for the supply of small/medium-sized distribution networks
in condominiums, homes and irrigation systems. They control the operation of the pump in order to
ensure a constant delivery pressure based on the signal received from the electronic pressure
transmitter.
Any other use of the units is prohibited. XYLEM SERVICE ITALIA Srl shall not be liable for any
damage caused or suffered by the unit as a result of its unauthorised or improper use.
4. Working Limits
GTKS20 pumping system
The pumps mounted on the units must not be used for pumping liquids containing solid, abrasive,
fibrous or chemically aggressive substances.
Do not use the product in environments where dust, acids, corrosive and/or flammable gases etc.
are present.
Pumping unit supply voltage: 1 x 230 V ± 10 % 50/60 Hz

Pressure transmitter
The sensor for this transmitter is a piezo-resistive silicon element which is sensitive to pressure. It
is mounted on a small flexible printed circuit (TAB) and is immersed in an oil chamber. The
pressure is transmitted to the sensor through a steel diaphragm located in the oil chamber.
Pressure range : 0 to 10 bar
Power supply: 21 Vdc from TEKNOSPEED
Output signal: 4 to 20 mA
Connection: ¼ “ male, made of stainless steel.
Electrical connector : removable, provided with 1 meter of shielded cable
Protection class: IP 55

5. Operation
The converter features a power and control board connected by a cable directly to the terminal
board of the pump’s motor. All this is encapsulated between a base and an aluminium casing with
a finned top to ensure heat dissipation. Three warning lights signal the status of the converter:
POWER: Linea ; RUN: Marcia; ALARM: Allarme
A connection via serial interface allows the two variators in the pressure booster unit to converse
with each other and provide for the cyclic starting and stopping of the pumps based on user
demand.
A pressure set point must be established; then, once the unit has been installed, the entire system
will adapt to this value.
The pressure transmitters, located on the delivery side, put out a signal which is proportional to the
system pressure value. The drop in system pressure determined by the users' water consumption
causes a decrease in the value of the signal that, through the variator, starts the first pump,
regulating its speed so as to re-establish the pressure set point (operating pressure).
If the capacity of the pump is lower than the quantity of water drawn, the pressure continues to
drop until the first pump reaches the maximum operating speed and transmits a signal to the
second pump to start.
The first pump continues to run at maximum speed while the second pump modulates its operation
to meet the water demand.
If the pressure increases due to decreased water consumption, the signal from the transmitters
increases causing the pumps to stop (inverted order of the starting sequence).
In order to distribute the working hours and reduce the number of starts per hour of each pump, the
program switches the starting order of the pumps at each start-up.
6. Installation
The unit must be protected from the weather and especially from freezing temperatures.
The operating conditions described in our catalogue provide for the water to be supplied by a water
storage tank, with the liquid level at the same height as the suction manifold.
Whenever possible, the unit should be installed with a positive suction head, i.e. with the pump
suction port located below the minimum water level.
If the above conditions cannot be ensured the installation is described as suction lift. In this case
the suction flow resistance, suction lift and NPSH of the pumps must be taken into account.
When in doubt, please contact our technical service department.

The unit should be installed as close to the water source as possible.
Bends in the connection pipe to the suction manifold should be few and wide and have a positive
gradient (i.e. from below to the pumps positioned higher up).
Avoid the formation of siphons.
The suction pipes and foot valve must be of adequate size to prevent excessive flow resistance
and the consequent cavitation phenomena.
In any case, the diameter of the pipe must not be smaller than the diameter of the unit’s manifold.
Make sure there are no air infiltrations in the suction pipe.
Except in the case of installation with positive suction head, a foot valve is usually necessary.
The surge tank must be mounted between the pressure booster unit and the user. The volume of
the surge tank should be approximately 5% of the maximum capacity (l/min) of a single pump (also
for multiple pump systems), for a minimum of 8 litres.
For the same reason, when the unit serves a large water distribution network (big condominiums,
industrial plants, etc.), we recommend the installation of a diaphragm expansion tank immediately
before the check valve.
A vibration-damping joint should be installed on the delivery manifold to prevent the transmission of
vibrations to the system and undue stress.
We recommend that you install an on-off valve immediately after the unit.
We recommend that you install a cock for testing the unit if no tap has been provided near the unit.
In case of connection to the municipal water system, make sure that the maximum pressure of the
water system plus that of the pump does not exceed the maximum value allowed for the pump.
For units equipped with diaphragm tanks, the precharge pressure of the tanks must be checked
periodically to make sure that it is about 0.2 bar lower than the working pressure of the unit.
This check must be made while the system is shut down and depressurised, with at least one tap
open, or with the tank disconnected from the system.
7. Filling the Unit with Water
CAUTION: the pump must be filled with water before it is started. Dry running would cause
damage to the mechanical seal and impeller.
CAUTION: the pump can be damaged if it is left full of water and inactive in environments with
temperatures below freezing.

CAUTION Operate with the power supply disconnected.
First of all, check the pre-charge of the diaphragm tank.
In the event of water supply with positive head (above-ground storage tank, water system):
Open all the valves in the unit, as well as any valves installed in the suction manifold.
Open a tap until the water flows out.
In the event of water supply with negative head (well, underground storage tank):
Open all the gate valves on the suction side and remove the fill plugs from the suction manifold
and pump bodies.
Fill the piping with water; when it starts to flow out re-insert the plug and continue filling through the
special holes provided in the pump bodies until the unit is fully charged. Then re-insert the pump
plugs.
8. Electrical Connections
The salient characteristics of the electric panels for the units with GTKS20/…(teknospeed)
frequency converter are:
-Casing made of plastic material with IP 55 protection.
-Automatic thermal-magnetic switch for each single pump.
-Terminal board.
-Yellow/green ground terminal
-Cable gland
-Level control module (SLD) “optional kit”.
As regards the electrical connections, see the wiring diagram inside the panel.
Power supply line.
Ground the unit before making any other connections.
Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated in the pump and electric
panel rating plates.
Make sure that the supply cable can handle the rated current of the unit, and connect it to the
corresponding terminals in the electric panel. We recommend the use of a FROR 3G1.5 type
cable.
Cables, when visible, must be suitably protected.
The power line must be protected by means of fuses.
Connections on the electric panel.
Before making any other connections, ground the panel by inserting the ground conductor in the
yellow/green terminal (PE).
Connect the power supply cable (230 V single-phase) to the L – N terminals found inside the
electrical panel.

10. Settings and Adjustments
The Teknospeed system is preset at the factory for operation. You can modify the pressure value
to suit the actual system requirements; proceed as follows:
The two pumps must be set separately (one at a time) to the same pressure value by powering
only the one being set and switching off the other one.
Increasing the pressure value
Make sure that the system is pressurized, no user is open and the pump is off. Unscrew the plug
that protects the adjusting screw.
Turn the adjusting screw slowly to the right using a screwdriver. Use the slotted blade screwdriver
(2.5 mm) provided with the TKS system. The adjusting screw (potentiometer) has a limited
travel, less than one turn, between the minimum value (0 bar) and the maximum value (10 bar).
Do not force it beyond the limits as you could damage the adjusting screw, and do not insert any
objects, for any reason, in the TKS inverter. The pump will start.
Read the pressure value on the gauge and keep turning the adjusting screw until the gauge pointer
reaches the desired value.
Make sure that the pressure has stabilized at the desired value.
If necessary, make slight adjustments by turning the adjusting screw to the right or left. If you need
to lower the pressure setting, we recommend that you open a user partially (see next section
“Lowering the pressure value”).
Make sure that the new value you have selected is within the head range specified in the TKS
system’s rating plate.
The pump stops after approx. 60 seconds. The switch-off pressure may be slightly higher than the
desired value (see chapter 6.4.1).
Lowering the pressure value
Make sure that the system is pressurized, no user is open and the pump is off.
Unscrew the plug that protects the adjusting screw.
Make sure that the on-off valve located on the pump’s delivery side is open.
Open a user or the test tap (chapter 6.1) partially, allowing the pressure to drop slowly.
The pump will start.
Turn the adjusting screw slowly to the left using a screwdriver.
Use the slotted blade screwdriver (2.5 mm) provided with the TKS system. The adjusting screw
has a limited travel, less than one turn, between the minimum value (0 bar) and the maximum
value (10 bar). Do not force it beyond the limits as you could damage the adjusting screw.
Read the pressure value on the gauge and keep turning the adjusting screw until the gauge pointer
reaches the desired value.
Make sure that the pressure has stabilized at the desired value.
If necessary, make small adjustments by turning the adjusting screw to the right or left.
Make sure that the new value you have selected is within the head range specified in the TKS
system’s rating plate.
The pump stops after approx. 60 seconds. The switch-off pressure may be slightly higher than the
desired value (see chapter 6.4.1).

Probe sensitivity adjustment:
The sensitivity is adjusted by operating the trimmer (see figure n. 2) located on the SLD module.
By rotating the trimmer clockwise, the sensitivity of the probes increases.
11. Shutdown
Unit shutdown takes place as follows:
When the water demand decreases, the pressure in the delivery manifold increases. As the
pressure increases, the last pump to be started slows down until it stops. The same happens for all
the pumps in the unit (inverted order of the starting sequence).
12. Visual Signalling Devices
On the adhesive plate attached to the radiator there are three LED’s having the following functions:
Steady green light Power Indicates that the TKS system is powered
Steady yellow light Run Indicates that the first pump to be started is running
Flashing yellow light Run Indicates that the second pump to be started is
running
Flashing red light Alarm Indicates that an alarm has triggered
If an alarm is triggered, the red light will flash more or less rapidly depending on what has caused
the system to shut down. Except for lack of water on the suction side, in all other cases the system
will verify every 20 seconds whether the cause of the failure still persists. If three consecutive
alarms occur, the system will shut down definitively (See alarm section). In the event of a
shutdown, system operation can be restored by disconnecting the power supply for at least one
minute or until all the indicator lights go off. The alarm triggered by lack of water on the suction side
has no limits as regards the number of alarms.

Be careful when servicing the system as it could restart automatically.
Shutdown caused by lack of water on suction side:
If the system shuts down because there is not enough water on the suction side, it will restart
automatically when the external device re-enables its operation (float switch or pressure switch or
switch chapters 6.2.7 and 6.2.8).
The alarm triggered by lack of water on the suction side has no limits as regards the number of
alarms. There is a single lack of water alarm for both pumps.
Shutdown caused by other problems:
The other alarms are independent for each pump. The pump where no alarm has triggered
continues to run, guaranteeing the relative water supply.
Except in the event of lack of water on the suction side, in all other cases the system will verify
every 20 seconds whether the cause of the failure still persists. If the failure has ceased, the
system will restart automatically. If three consecutive alarms occur, the system will shut down
definitively.
In the event of a shutdown, system operation can be restored by disconnecting the power supply
for at least one minute or until all the indicator lights go off.

If the system shuts down because there is not enough water on the suction side, it will restart
automatically when the external device re-enables its operation (float switch or pressure switch or
switch  chapters 6.2.7 and 6.2.8).
The alarm triggered by lack of water on the suction side has no limits as regards the number of
alarms. There is a single lack of water alarm for both pumps.
Shutdown caused by other problems:
The other alarms are independent for each pump. The pump where no alarm has triggered
continues to run, guaranteeing the relative water supply.
Except in the event of lack of water on the suction side, in all other cases the system will verify
every 20 seconds whether the cause of the failure still persists. If the failure has ceased, the
system will restart automatically. If three consecutive alarms occur, the system will shut down
definitively.
In the event of a shutdown, system operation can be restored by disconnecting the power supply
for at least one minute or until all the indicator lights go off.

If 10 minutes elapse after an alarm without any other failures occurring, the alarm counter will be
reset and the system will make three new attempts to restart.
If two or more alarms are triggered simultaneously (e.g. due to motor overtemperature and lack of
water), only the first failure signal received by the control board is signalled.
CAUTION! The converter does not have a non-erasable alarm log, we therefore recommend that
you observe the flashing frequency carefully before disconnecting the power supply to the TKS
system.
13. Maintenance
The TKS electric pumps do not require any routine maintenance provided that their working limits
are observed (see the pump handbook). Any maintenance operations must be performed by
qualified and experienced personnel, in compliance with the safety regulations in force.

Make sure than no pipes are under pressure before performing any operations on the liquid

14. Waste Disposal
After the unit has been installed and started, the customer must provide for the appropriate
elimination /disposal of the waste materials according to the legislation locally in force.
If the unit or parts of it must be taken out of service and dismantled, follow local regulations
regarding sorted waste disposal. Refer to the appropriate recycling centres.
CAUTION: Contamination of the environment with hazardous substances such as
battery acid, fuel, oil, plastic, copper, etc., may cause serious damage to the environment and
endanger people’s health.

INSPECCIÓN PRELIMINAR: tras haber quitado el embalaje exterior, comprobar visualmente que
el grupo no haya sufrido daños durante el transporte. En caso de que el grupo esté dañado,
informar a nuestro distribuidor lo antes posible y, en cualquier caso, dentro de diez días de la
fecha de entrega.
3. Empleo
Nuestros grupos de presurización son adecuados especialmente para la alimentación de
pequeñas/medianas redes de distribución de multifamiliares, viviendas y sistemas de irrigación en
general. Estos grupos efectúan la regulación de la bomba para obtener una presión constante
durante el suministro en función de la señal que procede del transmisor electrónico de presión.
Cualquier otro empleo de los grupos está prohibido. XYLEM SERVICE ITALIA Srl no responde de
daños ocasionados por el grupo o al grupo mismo a causa de su uso inapropiado prohibido.
4. Límites de empleo
Sistema de bombeo GTKS20
Las bombas instaladas en los grupos no deben ser utilizadas para el bombeo de líquidos con
sustancias sólidas, abrasivas, fibrosas y químicamente agresivas.
No se debe usar el producto en ambientes con presencia de polvos, ácidos, gases corrosivos y/o
inflamables, etc.
Tensión de alimentación del grupo de bombeo : 1 x 230 V ± 10 % 50/60 Hz

Transmisor de presión
El sensor de este transmisor es un elemento de silicio piezorresistivo sensible a la presión,
instalado sobre un pequeño circuito impreso flexible (TAB) y sumergido en una cámara de aceite.
La presión se transmite al elemento mediante una membrana de acero situada en la cámara de
aceite.
Rango de presión : desde 0 hasta 10 bares

5. Funcionamiento
El convertidor está formado por una tarjeta de potencia y control conectada, mediante un cable,
directamente a la caja de bornes del motor eléctrico de la bomba. Todos los componentes están
encerrados entre una base y una envoltura de aluminio cuya parte superior, dotada de aletas,
elimina el calor. Están presentes tres bombillas de indicación para indicar el estado del
convertidor:
POWER: Línea ; RUN: Marcha; ALARM: Alarma
Un conexión mediante interfaz serial permite a los dos variadores presentes en el grupo de
presión dialogar entre ellos, activando su puesta en marcha y parada secuencial según las
necesidades de los dispositivos.
El sistema prevé que se programe el valor de la presión de referencia al cual, una vez instalado el
grupo, toda la instalación se ajustará.
Los transmisores de presión, situados en la impulsión, envían una señal proporcional al valor de la
presión de red. La disminución de la presión de red, determinada por la toma de agua por parte
del dispositivo, produce la reducción de la señal que, a través del variador, pone en marcha la
primera bomba, regulando la velocidad para restablecer la presión de referencia (o de trabajo).
Si el caudal de la bomba es inferior a la cantidad de agua tomada, la presión sigue bajando hasta
que la primera bomba alcance la velocidad máxima de trabajo y dé el asenso a la puesta en
marcha de la segunda bomba.
La primera bomba mantendrá la velocidad máxima, mientras que la segunda bomba será
modulante para seguir el desarrollo de la demanda de agua.
En caso de aumento de la presión, determinado por una reducción de la toma de agua, la señal
que procede de los transmisores aumenta y hace parar las bombas con una secuencia inversa a
la de la puesta en marcha.
Para repartir las horas de trabajo y reducir el número de arranques por hora de cada bomba, el
programa intercambia el orden de puesta en marcha de las bombas a cada puesta en marcha del
grupo.
6. Instalación
Se debe instalar el sistema al amparo de los agentes atmosféricos, protegiéndolo siempre del
hielo.
Las condiciones de funcionamiento indicadas en nuestro catálogo se refieren a la toma del
depósito de primera recogida con un nivel del líquido a la misma cota que el colector de
aspiración.
Si es posible, se debe instalar el grupo debajo del nivel del líquido que se debe aspirar, es decir
con la boca de aspiración de las bombas situada debajo del nivel mínimo del agua.
Si no se puede respetar lo arriba indicado, se considera el grupo sobre el nivel del líquido que se
debe aspirar. En este caso es necesario tener en cuenta las pérdidas de carga en aspiración, el
desnivel y el NPSH de las bombas.

Se debe instalar el grupo lo más cerca posible del punto de toma del agua.
Las tuberías de conexión al colector de aspiración deberán tener el menor número de codos
posible (que deben ser de rayo amplio) y una pendiente siempre positiva (es decir de abajo hacia
las bombas situadas más arriba).
Evitar la formación de sifones.
El dimensionamiento de las tuberías en aspiración y de la eventual válvula de pie deben realizarse
de modo que no se produzcan pérdidas de carga excesivas, para evitar fenómenos de cavitación.
En cualquier caso, el diámetro del tubo utilizado no debe ser inferior al del colector del grupo.
Asegurarse de que no puedan producirse infiltraciones de aire en aspiración.
En general, salvo el caso de funcionamiento debajo del nivel del líquido que se debe aspirar, la
válvula de pie es necesaria.
El depósito a presión debe ser instalado entre el grupo de presión y el dispositivo y tener un
volumen correspondiente aproximadamente al 5% del caudal máximo (l/min) de cada bomba
(también en los sistemas de dos bombas) con un mínimo de 8 litros.
Con el mismo fin, cuando el grupo está conectado a una red de distribución hídrica muy extendida
(grandes multifamiliares, establecimientos industriales, etc.), aconsejamos instalar un depósito de
expansión de membrana inmediatamente antes de la válvula de retención.
Se aconseja instalar en el colector de impulsión una junta antivibración para impedir la transmisión
de vibraciones a la instalación e inútiles tensiones.
Se aconseja instalar una válvula de cierre inmediatamente después del grupo.
Se aconseja instalar un grifo para la prueba del grupo, en caso de que no esté previsto un grifo de
toma en las cercanías del grupo mismo.
En caso de conexión al acueducto, comprobar que la suma de la presión máxima del acueducto y
de la bomba no sea superior al valor máximo admitido para la bomba.
Para los grupos dotados de depósitos de membrana es necesario comprobar periódicamente el
valor de la presión de la precarga de los mismos, que debe ser inferior de unos 0,2 bar a la de
trabajo del grupo.
El control debe efectuarse con la instalación parada y sin presión, con al menos una toma abierta,
o en el depósito desmontado de la instalación.
7. Carga hídrica del grupo
ATENCIÓN: llenar la bomba con agua antes de ponerla en marcha. De hacerla girar en seco, se
dañarían el cierre mecánico y el rodete.
ATENCIÓN: el hielo puede dañar la bomba, si se deja llena de agua e inactiva en un ambiente con
temperatura bajo cero.
