Introduction
The GX30 Globe is a low voltage Passive Infra Red Detector (PIR) designed to meet the
newest and most demanding requirements of the CCTV market. This detector has two
volt free contacts for interfacing to a CCTV or alarm system or both at the same time.
Additionally one of the relays can be increased in time duration and linked to the inbuilt
light sensor which means it can be used to operate a power relay and control lighting.
Detection range is 30 metres out x 70° across. Internal curtains can occlude the
detection area to 10° and lower creep zones may be masked so that the detection
pattern may be tailored precisely to the area to be covered and overspill avoided.
Inside the PIR is a powerful microprocessor which uses logic to determine the validity of
an activation. By combining this technology with the specially designed pet immune
Fresnel lens, nuisance alarms are all but eradicated.
The PIR also contains front and rear anti-tamper to detect removal from the wall and
unauthorised adjustment.
Multi beam alignment masking
The multifunction lens produces 7 long range beams and 7 medium to short range curtain
beams. Movement across the beams produces the best response and range, whilst
movement towards the detector will be less responsive. The unit detects the change in
heat and movement in the beam pattern , therefore items such as trees, shrubs, ponds,
boiler flues and animals should be considered when positioning the detector.
The detector is fitted with two sliding shutters to reduce the detection angle.
An additional set of shutters is provided should the beam pattern need to be reduced
further, e.g. if the minimum detection angle of 10° is required.

Cables may be brought to the detector either
through the rear rubber grommets or through
the bottom 20mm knockout.
Connect the cables to the terminal
block on the rear of the detector
assembly by rotating it 180° as shown
on the following page.
Screw the unit to the wall ensuring that
the tamper pin is securely located and
that the tamper micro switch is closed.
To aid installation, two spare tamper
feet are provided. One is 1mm longer
and the other is 2mm longer than the
original. The tamper foot is a push fit
and can be removed by carefully
pulling it from the pin.

Choose a flat surface facing
approximately in the direction to
be monitored.
Using the template drill the wall
to accept two fixing screws, the
cable entry and tamper cup.
We recommend using the
tamper cup on uneven wall
surfaces.
Remove the front cover using
the hex key provided and
hinging the lid upwards.

Wiring.
Provide 12 volts DC to terminals +12V DC and GND as shown. Supply current is a
maximum of 17m/a.
Tamper. Connect to the N/C tamper terminals as shown
Contact A is volt free, can be set to NO or NC and will activate for 1 second on
detection. Switch capacity max 1 amp 24 volts
Contact B is also volt free and can be set to N/O or N/C and activate for 1 second on
detection.
In addition, contact B activation time can be adjusted up to 5 minutes and it can if
required be gated with the light sensor so that it will only operate between dusk and
dawn.
Switch capacity max 1 amp 24 volts.
Warning. Do not apply mains voltage to any part of this product.
The functionality of contact B is meant only to serve independent equipment that is
designed to switch mains lighting such as a power relay in accordance with IEE
regulations. Always consult a qualified electrician.

The mounting height for this detector can be up to
6 metres. The diagrams below show some
examples of range versus height.
For pet immunity, mask off the lower beams as
shown using adhesive masking or insulation tape.
For curtain coverage mask off the long range
beams.

PIR detection range
Detection range can be increased or decreased from 10 metres to 30 metres as preferred.
Increasing the range will also increase the risk of false detection and should only be used
in quiet stable locations.
Where the PIR can detect passing vehicles or pedestrians, it is useful to decrease the
sensitivity which will shorten the detection range.
An alternative solution is to angle the lens down which will keep the same sensitivity but
will be physically limited in range.
Pulse count
The normal pulse count setting is 2 but may be increased up to 4 for environment's where
there is a lot of incidental movement of foliage. Increasing this setting will affect rang.
1 pulse count can be used and will increase range but with a slightly higher risk of false
alarms.
Walk test
Switch this on for a super bright red LED which will assist when walk testing the area to be
covered. This feature may be left on if preferred.
Contact B Day/Night
Switch this on if relay A is only to work between dusk and dawn.
Contact B Time
The contact duration is adjustable from 1 second to 5 minutes for this relay only.
Contacts A and B polarity
Both relay contacts A and B can be independently set to normally closed N/C or normally
open N/O
