OPERATION
Charging
The baery has an LCD fuel gauge located on the end of
the baery. This fuel gauge displays ve (5) bars when fully
charged. Each bar represents twenty percent of the baery’s
capacity (Figure 1).
Figure 1
Fully charge baery prior to use.
To charge the baery,
1. Plug the charger power cord into a 115 VAC electrical
outlet.
2. Place the charger on a at surface away from heat and
moisture.
3. Align the baery connector and charger connector and
push them together. The MTI Logo on the baery should
face out. (Figure 2).
4. The charger will automacally begin to charge the
baery. The LCD fuel gage on the baery will ash to
indicate charging is in process.

NOTICE/AVIS
MTI recommends the following procedure be followed in order to
ensure that the baery is always ready for use and maintains a
higher life expectancy.
MTI provides (2) baeries for each chair purchased. Best
pracces are as follows:
1. At the end of the day remove the baery from the chair
and charge it.
2. Before the next surgery, insert a fully charged baery into
the chair.
3. Alternate baeries every day.
NOTICE/AVIS
Leaving the baery on the charger, even when fully charged, will
not damage the baery or the charger.
chargeur.
Charge me should be approximately 3 hours, at which me
the green LED on the charger should be solid and the fuel
gauge on the end of the baery should show ve bars.
LED Indicaon
The charging status of the baery is indicated by three LEDs
on the front of the charger:
Green ashing Baery is charging
Green solid Baery is fully charged
Blue ashing Baery is being calibrated
Blue Solid Baery is calibrated
Red Flashing Baery fuel gauge needs calibraon
Red Solid Error or baery is unrecoverable
Discharging
When the baery is inserted into the chair baery holster, the
chair will automacally be powered by the baery, even if the
chair is sll plugged into an outlet.
CAUTION/PRÉCAUTION
If the chair is not in use for 1 or more days, remove the baery
from the chair, otherwise the baery will discharge. Leaving the
baery in the chair for an extended period of me may result in
premature failure of the baery.
3
The runme of the baery will be reduced if it is operated
below room temperature.
Calibraon
Frequent paral discharges will reduce the accuracy of the
fuel gauge. The baery has a built-in monitoring system which
checks the accuracy of the fuel gauge, based on the discharge
history of the baery. A ashing red LED on the charger will
indicate a baery fuel gauge needs calibraon.
Calibraon of the baery fuel gauge is achieved by plugging
the charger into a properly grounded outlet, connecng
the baery to the charger, and then pressing the calibraon
buon on the side of the charger (See Figure 2). While
calibrang the baery, keep the charger away from direct
sunlight or heat sources in order to avoid calibraon errors.
There may be a short delay before the calibraon begins.
Calibraon may take 25-27 hours. The charger will fully
charge, then fully discharge the baery to calibrate the fuel
gauge, and then the baery will be fully recharged.
The baery and charger will get warm during the calibraon
procedure. The Blue LED will be solid when the calibraon is
complete.
Baery Life
End of life on the baery is dened as the point at which the
baery fails to deliver 80% of it original rated capacity. This
will occur aer approximately 300 charge/discharge cycles.
Addional Warnings, Cauons and Noces
WARNING/AVERTISSEMENT
Do not expose the charger or power supply to liquids.
WARNING/AVERTISSEMENT
Do not open the baery, charger, or power supply case. There are
no user serviceable parts inside.
Do not cover the charger case or leave in direct sunlight, as this
could cause overheang.
If the baery is stored for an extended period of me, the
baery must be fully charged every 6 months in order to avoid
premature failure of the baery.
If a baery is completely drained (no bars on fuel gauge) it must
be immediately charged. If it is not charged, the baery will
enter a shutdown mode. If the baery is le in shutdown mode,
the baery will reach an unrecoverable state where it cannot
be charged and must be replaced (not covered by warranty). A
baery that is le in shutdown mode too long will be indicated
by a solid red LED on the baery charger when it is connected.
The baery must be charged with MTI’s charger. If another
charger is used, baery damage or other unknown events may
occur.
NOTICE/AVIS
Place the charger in a cool spot, away from external heat sources.
chaleur externes.

Storage
MTI recommends that the baery and charger be stored
at room temperature. Elevated temperatures will reduce
storage life. MTI lithium ion baeries are shipped parally to
fully charged to give at least 6 months of shelf life at room
temperature. However, it is recommended to fully charge the
baery before the chair is operated or prior to storing the
baery. It is recommended that the baery is recharged every
6 months if in storage.

Baery Disposal
MTI lithium ion baeries are classied by the US federal
government as non-hazardous waste and are safe for disposal
in the normal municipal waste stream. However, the baeries
do contain recyclable materials and are accepted for recycling
by a number of regional baery recycling programs. MTI
encourages you to recycle your baeries. The baery charger
must be recycled and cannot be disposed of in a landll.
In North America, contact the Rechargeable Baery Recycling
Corporaon (RBRC) at www.call2recycle.org.
NOTICE/AVIS
The baery contains lithium ions. The amount of lithium ions
contained in the baery are safe for consumer use.
