Limited Two-Year Warranty
Your Ear Thermometer is guaranteed to be free of manufacturing defects for a
period of two years from the date of purchase under normal use. If the unit fails
to operate during the warranty period, return it postage prepaid along with $5.00
for return shipping and insurance to: MABIS Healthcare, Attn: Repair
Department, 1931 Norman Drive South, Waukegan, IL 60085. If MABIS
Healthcare determines that the unit failed to operate due to a manufacturing
defect, the unit will be repaired or replaced at the option of MABIS Healthcare.
Repair or replacement of the unit is the sole remedy under this limited warranty.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, which vary from state to state. As a
condition of this warranty, the enclosed warranty registration card must be
completed and sent to us within 10 days of the purchase date.
This Limited Warranty constitutes MABIS Healthcare’s only responsibility and
obligation to repair and /or replace materials or components. We make no other
express or implied warranties, arising by operation of law or otherwise, or any
warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular use or purpose whether or
not the use or purpose has been disclosed to MABIS Healthcare in specifica-
tions, drawings or otherwise, and whether or not MABIS Healthcare’s products
are specifically designed and/or manufactured by MABIS Healthcare for the
buyer’s use or purposes, except for the limited warranty stated above. MABIS
will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or
punitive damages or other loss, including, but not limited to, damage to or loss
of other property or equipment and personal injuries, whether to purchaser or

General Care & Important Information
•Never use for purposes other than body temperature measurement.
•Only use under the supervision of an adult. Never leave the thermometer or
probe covers with unattended infants or children.
• For accurate measurements and to prevent cross contamination always use a
new, undamaged probe cover for each measurement.
• Earwax in the ear canal may cause an inaccurate reading.
• Do not use if there are signs of damage to the probe or to the thermometer.
Do not attempt to disassemble it, except to replace the battery.
• Protect the thermometer from severe impact or shocks. Keep stored in the
protective storage case.
Your Ear Thermometer measures the heat radiated from the eardrum and the
surrounding tissue. This energy is transferred through the probe and converted
into a single temperature value. Although readings taken from the eardrum
(tympanic membrane) can provide the most accurate readings, improper
technique can generate lower readings, resulting in a misdiagnosed fever.
To avoid inaccurate measurements:
1) Always use with TenderTemp probe covers for accuracy and hygiene. The
unit has been calibrated to work with our special probe covers.
2) Ear measurements are comparable to oral measurements. Remember
temperatures can vary from 97.0°Fto 99.0°F(36.1°Cto 37.2°C) and still
may be considered “normal”. Time of day, level of activity, exercise and
other activities can attribute to variations in temperature. However, unlike
oral
temperatures, factors such as smoking, talking and drinking do not affect
ear measurements.
Cleaning and Storage
To ensure accurate measurements, keep the probe lens clean and free of
scratches. Fingerprints and earwax can cause inaccurate readings.
To Clean:
• Using an alcohol swab or a soft cotton swab
moistened with alcohol (70% Isopropyl),
carefully wipe the probe tip and lens. Make
sure
not to saturate the unit. Do not use paper
towels – the fibers may scratch the lens.
• Make sure that liquid does not enter the interior
of the thermometer.
• Never use abrasive cleaning agents, thinners
or gasoline for cleaning.
• Do not immerse into water or other cleaning
liquids.
•The thermometer is not waterproof.

Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a MABIS Ear Thermometer. Please read the following
instructions to achieve the most accurate temperatures and safe operation. With
proper care and use, your thermometer will provide you with many years of
reliable readings.
Your Ear Thermometer is intended for monitoring human body temperature and
is appropriate for all ages. It is less threatening than a rectal thermometer, is
easier and faster than standard oral measurements and can even be used while
achild is sleeping.
In one second, multiple readings are taken. These readings are converted into a
single temperature with the peak temperature displayed on the screen. Its
patented technology assures consistent, reliable and accurate measurements
each and every time.
NOTE: Measurements taken with this Ear Thermometer are comparable to oral
readings. Please read the instructions carefully as improper technique may
result in low readings.

Taking a Reading
After applying a properly fitted probe cover,
1) Press the POWER button. The system will perform a self-test,

2) The last measured temperature will display for
approximately 3 seconds, Fig. 2.

The thermometer will beep and an °F or °C
symbol will flash indicating the thermometer is
ready for measurement (See ‘Changing Modes’),
Fig. 3.
4) Straighten the ear canal to give a clear view of the
eardrum.
• For children under 1 year, pull the ear straight
back, Fig. 4.
• For ages 1 year to adult, pull the ear up and
back, Fig. 5.
5) While pulling on the ear, insert the probe snugly into the ear
canal and press the SCAN button, Fig. 6.A long beep will
sound indicating measurement is complete.
6) If the temperature is 99.5°F(37.5°C) or above, a series of
12 rapid double beeps will sound to indicate a fever.
7) Remove the thermometer from the ear.The
display will show the measured temperature,

8) Replace the probe cover after every measurement.
To ensure accuracy, please wait at least 30 seconds between successive
readings.
NOTE: It is possible for the elderly,infants under 3 months of age, and those
with compromised immune systems or other medical conditions not to have an
elevated temperature even when they are ill.
Special situations such as ear canal drainage, infection, or other conditions such
as prior ear surgery (tubes), may preclude the use of ear thermometers in one
or both ears or may affect the accuracy of the reading.

ToStore:
• Remove the battery if the thermometer will not be used for an extended
period of time.
• Store in a sun-free and dust-free, dry area at a temperature between
-13.0°F–131.0°F(-25.0°C–55.0°C).
• Protect the thermometer from severe impact or shocks. Keep stored in the
protective storage case.
Probe Cover Application
Prior to every measurement, make sure a TenderTemp probe cover is properly
applied to the probe. Using the dispenser and following the steps below:
1) Position the dispenser vertically on a flat stable surface,
Fig. 1.
2) Place a probe cover over the dispenser hole with the paper
side up. Match the shape of the cover to the outline of the
hole, Fig. 2.
3) Hold the thermometer and point the probe in a straight
downward position. Align the lens of the probe, flat, over the
center of the probe cover window. Make sure that the probe
is completely perpendicular to the hole, Fig. 3.
4) Firmly thrust the probe into the probe cover window, Fig. 4.
Continue to firmly push until complete resistance is felt from
the base of the probe meeting the dispenser.
5) Lift with the cover securely attached, making sure
that the lip of the cover fits securely around the base of
the probe, Fig. 5a.
NOTE:
• Probe covers can create a choking hazard for children.
Never leave a child or infant unattended with a thermometer
or probe cover.
• Use a new probe cover for each measurement to avoid cross contamination.
• Discard torn, damaged or improperly fitted probe covers.
• Make sure the probe cover is securely attached before use.
Troubleshooting
Probe cover tears when trying to apply – See Fig. 3 for proper positioning of the
probe. Make sure the probe is in a straight downward position.
Probe cover does not completely cover the probe – See Fig. 4. Firmly thrust the
probe through the center of the probe. The dispenser is designed to absorb the
force.

1. The thermometer should only be used under the supervision of an adult.
2. Do not walk, run or talk during temperature taking.
3. Clean the thermometer before and after each use.
4. Store the unit in the protective case when not in use.
5. Do not store the unit where it will be exposed to direct sunlight, dust or
humidity. Avoid extreme temperatures.
6. Dropping or subjecting your thermometer to strong shocks should be avoided.
7. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit, except to replace the battery.
8. If ERR displays and measurement is not attainable, the unit must be
replaced.
NOTE: Performance of the device may be degraded if: operated outside of
stated temperature and humidity range; stored outside of stated temperature
and humidity range; thermometer undergoes mechanical shock (drop); patient
temperature is below ambient temperature.

General Care
Helpful Hints
• For infants, it is best to position child laying flat with the ear facing upwards.
• For children and adults, it is best to stand behind and slightly to the side.
• Always take measurements in the same ear since temperature readings may
vary from ear to ear.
• Readings taken while a child is sleeping should not be compared to readings
taken while awake.
• It is recommended to take three readings in the same ear with the highest
interpreted as the reading for:
–newborn infants in the first 100 days,
–anyone with a comprised immune system or other conditions where the
absence of fever is critical,
–anew user of an Ear Thermometer until proper technique is established.
Changing Modes
The TenderTemp can display temperature readings in either Fahrenheit or
Celsius. To switch between °For °C, turn the unit off by pressing the POWER
button. Press and hold the SCAN button for approximately 5 seconds. °For °C
will be displayed. Release the button and press the SCAN button again to toggle
between the modes. Five seconds after completing the selection, the unit will
prepare for a measurement and beep to indicate that it is ready.
Replacing the Battery
Your TenderTemp Ear Thermometer requires one lithium battery, type CR2032.
The battery needs to be replaced when the low battery symbol appears on the
display.
To replace the battery:
1) Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw from the battery cover.
2) Using a non-metal pointed tool,
carefully remove the battery
and insert the new battery with
the positive (+) side facing up.
3) Replace the battery by pushing against the contact springs.
4) Carefully slide the battery cover back into place. Be careful not over tighten
the screw.
NOTE: Please properly dispose battery away from children and heat.

Su Termómetro de Oído está garantizado como libre de defectos de fabricación por un

•No lo use jamás para otra cosa que no sea medir la temperatura corporal.
•Úselo solamente bajo la supervisión de un adulto. Jamás deje el termómetro
donde haya niños sin supervisión.
• Para obtener mediciones exactas y para evitar el contagio, siempre utilice una
cubierta para el medidor nueva e intacta para cada medición.
• La cera en el canal auditivo puede dar como resultado que una lectura sea
inexacta.
• No use el termómetro si hay signos de daño en la unidad. No intente
desarmarlo; excepto para cambiar la batería.
• Proteja el termómetro de impactos o golpes severos. Guárdelo en el estuche
protector.
Su Termómetro Instantáneo de Oído mide el calor irradiado desde el tímpano y el
tejido circundante. Esta energía se transfiere a través del medidor y se
convierte en un valor único de temperatura. Si bien las lecturas tomadas del
tímpano (membrana) pueden ofrecer las lecturas más precisas, una técnica
inadecuada puede generar lecturas inferiores; lo que resultará en un diagnóstico

Para evitar mediciones inexactas:
1) Siempre utilice las cubiertas para el medidor TenderTemp a los fines de higiene
yexactitud. La unidad fue calibrada de manera tal que funciona con nuestras
cubiertas especiales para medidores.
2) Las mediciones en el oído son comparables a las orales. Recuerde que las
temperaturas pueden variar de 36.1°C a 37.2°C(97.0°F a 99.0°F), y aún así
consi-derarse ‘normales’. Las variaciones en la temperatura pueden atribuirse a
factores tales como la hora del día, el nivel de actividad, el ejercicio y demás
actividades. Sin embargo, a diferencia de las temperaturas orales, las
mediciones en el oído no se ven afectadas por factores tales como el fumar,
hablar y beber.
Limpieza y Almacenamiento
Afin de garantizar mediciones exactas, mantenga
la lente del medidor limpia y sin rayaduras. Las
huellas digitales y la cera en el oído pueden ser
causa de lecturas inexactas.
Para limpiar:
• Con un hisopo de alcohol o un algodón suave
embebido en alcohol (isopropilo al 70%), limpie
con cuidado la punta del medidor y las lentes,
sin saturar la unidad. No utilice toallas de papel – las fibras pueden rayar las
lentes.
• Asegúrese de que no entre líquido en el interior del termómetro.
• Jamás use agentes de limpieza abrasivos, solventes o gasolina para limpieza.
• No sumerja la unidad en agua ni en otros líquidos de limpieza. El termómetro
no es impermeable.

Introducción
Gracias por comprar un Termómetro Instantáneo de Oído MABIS. Sírvase leer
las siguientes instrucciones para lograr las temperaturas más exactas posibles y
un funcionamiento seguro. Con el debido cuidado y uso, su termómetro le
brindará años de uso y lecturas confiables.
Su Termómetro Instantáneo de Oído ha sido diseñado para controlar la
tempe-ratura corporal humana y es adecuado para cualquier edad. Es menos
peligroso que el termómetro rectal, más fácil y rápido que las mediciones orales
tradicionales y puede, incluso, utilizarse mientras el niño duerme.
En un segundo se toman muchas lecturas, que se convierten en una sola
temperatura, visualizándose la temperatura pico en el visor. Su tecnología
patentada asegura mediciones consistentes, confiables y exactas cada una y
todas las veces.
NOTA: Las mediciones tomadas con un Termómetro Instantáneo de Oído son
comparables con las lecturas orales. Lea las instrucciones detenidamente ya
que una técnica incorrecta puede producir lecturas bajas.
Funciones del Producto

Cómo Tomar una Medición
Luego de colocar de manera correcta la cubierta del medidor,
1) Presione el botón POWER. El sistema realizará una
autoprueba, Fig. 1.
2) Aparecerá la última temperatura medida durante
cerca de 3 segundos, Fig. 2.
3) El termómetro emitirá un ‘beep’ y el símbolo °F
o°Ctitilará indicando que el termómetro ya está
en condiciones de ser usado (Consulte ‘Como
Cambiar los Modos’), Fig. 3.
4) Enderece el canal auditivo para ofrecer una visión
clara del tímpano.
• En el caso de niños de menos de 1 año de
edad, tire de la oreja hacia atrás en forma recta,
Fig. 4.
• En el caso de niños de 1 año hasta adultos, tire
de la oreja hacia arriba y hacia atrás; Fig. 5.
5) Mientras tira de la oreja, inserte el medidor cómodamente en el
canal auditivo y presione el botón SCAN. Sonará un ‘beep’ largo
que indicará que la medición está completa.
6) Si la temperatura es de 37,5°C(99,5°F)
osuperior,sonará una serie de 12 beeps
rápidos que indicarán fiebre.
7) Quite el termómetro de la oreja. En el visor
aparecerá la temperatura tomada, Fig. 7.
8) Reemplace la cubierta del medidor después de cada medición.
Para fines de exactitud, espere por lo menos 30 segundos entre mediciones
sucesivas.
NOTA: Es posible que la gente de edad avanzada, los bebés menores de 3
meses de edad, aquellos con el sistema inmunológico deprimido y otras
condiciones médicas, no tengan una temperatura alta aún cuando estén
enfermos.
Algunas situaciones especiales, como supura del canal auditivo, infección, otras
enfermedades o previa cirugía de oídos (conductos) pueden imposibilitar el uso
del termómetro de oído en uno o ambos oídos o pueden afectar la exactitud de
la medición.

Para guardar:
• Retire la batería si no usará el termómetro por un período de tiempo
prolongado.
• Guarde la unidad en un lugar oscuro, limpio y seco, a una temperatura
comprendida entre -25°C–55°C(-13,0°F–131,0°F).
• Proteja el termómetro de impactos o golpes severos. Manténgalo guardado
en el estuche protector.
Colocación de la Cubierta del Medidor
Antes de cada medición, verifique que la cubierta del medidor de TenderTemp
esté colocada apropiadamente sobre el medidor.Tome el aplicador y siga estos
pasos:
1) Coloque el aplicador verticalmente sobre una superficie
estable y plana, Fig. 1.
2) Coloque una cubierta del medidor sobre el orificio del
aplicador con el lado de papel hacia arriba. Adapte la forma
del medidor al contorno del orificio, Fig. 2.
3) Sostenga el termómetro y apunte el medidor en posición
recta y para abajo. Alinee las lentes del medidor, en forma
plana, sobre el centro del visor de la cubierta del medidor.
Compruebe que el medidor esté completamente
perpendicular al orificio, Fig. 3.
4) Con firmeza impulse el medidor hacia el visor de la cubierta
del medidor, Fig. 4.Continúe empujando con firmeza hasta
que sienta una total resistencia desde la base del medidor
en donde se encuentra con el aplicador.
5) Levántelo con la cubierta colocada en forma segura,
asegurándose que la extremidad de la cubierta quede bien
ajustada alrededor de la base del medidor, Fig. 5a.
NOTA:
• Las cubiertas de los medidores pueden representar un
peligro de sofocamiento para los niños. Nunca deje el
termómetro o la cubierta para el medidor cerca de un niño o
un bebé sin supervisión.
• Utilice una cubierta para medidor nueva para cada medición
para evitar el contagio.
• Deshágase de las cubiertas para medidores que estén rotas, dañadas o que
no entren en forma correcta.
• Antes de usar, verifique que la cubierta del medidor esté firme en su posición.
Solución de Problemas
La cubierta para el medidor se rompe cuando trata de aplicarla. Vea en la Fig. 3
la posición correcta del medidor. Asegúrese que el medidor esté en posición
recta hacia abajo.

temperaturas extremas.
6. Evite dejar caer el termómetro o los grandes golpes.
7. No intente desarmar la unidad, excepto para cambiar la batería.
8. Si aparece ERR en el visor y no se obtiene una medida, deberá reemplazar
la unidad.
NOTA: El desempeño de este dispositivo puede verse afectado si: se opera
fuera de los niveles de temperatura y humedad recomendados, si se almacena
bajo niveles de temperatura y humedad fuera de los recomendados, si el
termómetro se somete a un golpe mecánico (se lo deja caer), si la temperatura
del paciente está por debajo de la temperatura ambiente.

Sugerencias Útiles
•En el caso de niños pequeños, es mejor colocar al niño acostado, con el oído
hacia arriba.
•En el caso de niños más grandes y de adultos, es mejor pararse detrás y,
ligeramente, hacia el costado.
•Tome siempre mediciones en el mismo oído, pues las lecturas de
temperatura pueden diferir de un oído al otro.
•Las lecturas tomadas mientras un niño está durmiendo no deben compararse
con las tomadas cuando está despierto.
•Se recomienda tomar tres lecturas en el mismo oído, interpretando la más
alta como la lectura en el caso de:
–Recién nacidos, en los primeros 100 días,
–cualquier persona con el sistema inmunológico deprimido u otras
afecciones donde la ausencia de fiebre sea crítica,
–Un usuario nuevo de un Termómetro Instantáneo de Oído, hasta estable-
cer la técnica adecuada.
Cómo Cambiar los Modos
El termómetro TenderTemp puede mostrar lecturas de temperaturas en grados
Fahrenheit o Celsius. Para alternar entre °F o °C, apague la unidad presionando
el botón POWER. Presione y mantenga el botón SCAN durante cerca de 5
segundos. Aparecerá el símbolo °F o °C. Suelte el botón y presione el botón
SCAN nuevamente, para alternar entre los modos. Al cabo de cinco segundos,
la unidad se iluminará, se preparará para la medición y sonará un ‘beep’ que le
indicará que el termómetro ya está listo.
Cómo Cambiar la Batería
Su Termómetro Instantáneo de
Oído requiere de una batería de
litio tipo CR2032.
Es necesario cambiar la batería
cuando en el visor aparezca el
símbolo de poca batería.
Para cambiar la batería:
1) Con un destornillador afloje el tornillo de la cubierta de la batería.
2) Con una herramienta de punta no metálica, retire la batería con sumo
cuidado e inserte la nueva con el lado positivo (+) hacia arriba.
3) Cambie la batería, impulsando los resortes de los contactos.
4) Cuidadosamente deslice la cubierta del medidor nuevamente hacia su lugar.
Tenga cuidado de no ajustar demasiado el tornillo.
NOTA: Deshágase adecuadamente de la batería agotada de modo que quede
lejos de los niños y del calor.
