Replacewithanewairtank.
• Followtheequipmentmanufacturersrecommen-
dation and never exceed the maximum allowable
pressureratingofattachments.Neverusethe

Thecompressorcanbeusedforproperlyratedpneu-
maticnailersandstaplers.Anairpressureregulatoris
suppliedfortheseapplications.

Whilethemotoriso󰀨,airtankpres-
suredropsasyoucontinuetouseyouraccessoryor
airtool.Whenthetankpressuredropstoacertainlevel
the motor will restart automatically re-started is called
“cut-inpressure”.
Whenyouturnonyouraircompres-
sor,itbeginstorun,airpressureintheairtankbegins
tobuild.Itbuildstoacertainpressurebeforethemotor
automaticallyshutso󰀨-protectingyourairtankfrom
pressurehigherthanitsdesignrating.Thepressureat
whichthemotorshutso󰀨iscalled“cut-outpressure”.

DAMAGE:Eachaircompressorouttiscarefullytested
andcheckedbeforeshipment.Withimproperhandling,
damagemayresultintransitandcauseproblemswith
compressoroperation.
Immediatelyuponarrival,checkequipmentforboth
concealedandvisibledamagestoavoidexpenses
beingincurredtocorrectsuchproblems.Thisshouldbe
doneregardlessofanyvisiblesignsofdamagetothe
shippingcontainer.Ifthisproductwasshippeddirectly
toyou,reportanydamagestothecarrierandarrange
forinspectionofgoodsimmediately.

Locatetheaircompressorinaclean,dryand
well-ventilatedarea.Theairltermustbekeptclearof
obstructions,whichcouldreduceairdeliveryoftheair
compressor.Theaircompressorshouldbelocatedat
least305mmawayfromthewallorotherobstructions
thatwillinterferewiththeowofair.Theaircompres-
sorheadandshroudaredesignedtoallowforproper
cooling.
Ifhumidityishigh,anairltercanbeinstalledonthe
airoutletadaptertoremoveexcessivemoisture.Follow
theinstructionspackagedwiththeairlterforproper
installation.
Placetheaircompressoronaatsurfacesothatitis
restingsecurelyontherubberfeet.

pressor.Neveroperatecompressoronarooforother
elevatedposition.Useadditionalairhosetoreach
high locations.

Theoperatingtemperatureofthiscompressoris
between 0°C and 40°C.
CAUTION: 

AllMakitamanufacturedaircompressorsarerec-
ommendedtobeoperatedonnotmorethana50%
dutycycle.Thismeansanaircompressorthatpumps
airmorethan50%inonehourisconsideredmisuse
becausetheaircompressorisundersizedforthe
requiredairdemand.

PlasticorPVCpipeisnotdesignedforusewithcom-
pressedair.Regardlessofitsindicatedpressurerating,
plasticpipecanburstfromairpressure.Useonlymetal
pipeforairdistributionlines.Ifapipelineisnecessary,
usepipethatisthesamesize,orlargerthan,theair
tankoutlet.Pipingthatistoosmallwillrestricttheow
ofair.Ifpipingisover30.5mlong,usethenextlarger
size.Buryundergroundlinesbelowthefrostlineand
avoidpocketswherecondensationcangatherand
freeze.Applypressurebeforeundergroundlinesare
coveredtomakesureallpipejointsarefreeofleaks.

Thiscompressorisequippedwithabatteryprotection
system.Thissystemautomaticallycutso󰀨powertothe
motortoextendcompressorandbatterylife.Thecom-
pressorwillautomaticallystopduringoperationifthe
compressor/batteryisplacedunderoneofthefollowing
conditions:

Thecompressor/batteryisoperatedinamannerthat
causes it to draw an abnormally high current. In this
situation,turnthecompressoro󰀨andstoptheapplica-
tionthatcausedthecompressortobecomeoverloaded.
Thenturnthecompressorontorestart.
Ifthecompressordoesnotstart,thebatteryisover-
heated.Inthissituation,letthebatterycoolbefore
turningthecompressoronagain.

Theremainingbatterycapacityistoolowandthe
compressorwillnotoperate.Ifyouturnthetoolon,
themotorrunsagainbutstopssoon.Inthissituation,
remove and recharge the battery cartridge.

Protectionsystemisalsodesignedforothercausesthat
coulddamagethecompressorandallowsthetoolto
stopautomatically.Takeallthefollowingstepstoclear
thecauses,whenthecompressorhasbeenbroughtto
atemporaryhaltorstopinoperation.
1. Turnthecompressoro󰀨,andthenturnitonagain
to restart.
2. Chargethebatteryorreplaceit/themwith
recharged battery.
3. Letthecompressorandbatterycooldown.
Ifnoimprovementcanbefoundbyrestoringprotection
system, then contact your local Makita Service Center.

and result in damage to the tool and battery cartridge
andapersonalinjury.

Toremovethebatterycartridge,slideitfromthetool
whileslidingthebuttononthefrontofthecartridge.
To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on the
batterycartridgewiththegrooveinthehousingandslip
itintoplace.Insertitallthewayuntilitlocksinplace
withalittleclick.Ifyoucanseetheredindicatoras
showninthegure,itisnotlockedcompletely.

Ifthecompressorautomaticallyshutso󰀨beforereach-
ingitsnormalcuto󰀨pressure:
1. TurntheOn/Auto-O󰀨switchto“O󰀨”position.
2. Remove the battery cartridge.
3. Waituntilthecompressorcoolsdown.(about
10 min.)
4. Install the battery cartridge.
5. TurntheOn/Auto-O󰀨switchto“On/Auto”position.

Turnthisswitchtoon(I)positiontoprovideautomatic
powertothepressureswitchandtoo󰀨(0)positionto
removepowerwhennishedusingthecompressoror
whencompressorwillbeleftunattended.

Keeptheairltercleanatalltimes.Donotoperatethe
compressorwiththeairlterremoved.Thecompressor
doesnotoperateatfullcapacityiftheairlterisdirty.
Beforeusingthecompressor,alwayschecktheairlter
ifitisclean.Ifnot,cleantheairlterorreplacethelter
element.

Tocompressair,thepistonmovesupanddowninthe
cylinder. On the down stroke, air is drawn in through the
air intake valve. The exhaust valve remains closed.
Ontheupstrokeofthepiston,airiscompressed.The
intakevalveclosesandcompressedairisforcedout
through the exhaust valve, through the outlet tube,
through the check valve and into the air tank. Useable
airisnotavailableuntilthecompressorhasraisedthe
airtankpressureabovethatrequiredattheairoutlet.

Whentheaircompressorisoperating,thecheckvalve
is“open”,allowingcompressedairtoentertheairtank.
Whentheaircompressorreaches“cut-out”pressure,
thecheckvalve“closes”,allowingairpressuretoremain
inside the air tank.

Thepressureswitchautomaticallystartsthemotor
whentheairtankpressuredropstothefactoryset
“cut-in”pressure.Itstopsthemotorwhentheairtank
pressurereachesthefactoryset“cut-out”pressure.

Ifthepressureswitchdoesnotshuto󰀨theaircompres-
soratits“cut-out”pressuresetting,thesafetyvalve
willprotectagainsthighpressureby“poppingout”at
itsfactorysetpressurewhichisslightlyhigherthanthe
pressureswitch“cut-out”setting.

Theoutletpressuregaugeindicatestheairpressure
availableattheoutletsideoftheregulator.Thispres-
sure is controlled by the regulator and is always less or
equaltothetankpressure.

Thetankpressuregaugeindicatestheairpressurein
the tank.

Theairpressurecomingfromtheairtankiscontrolled
by the regulator knob. Turn the knob clockwise to
increasepressureandcounter-clockwisetodecrease
pressure.Toavoidminorre-adjustmentaftermaking
achangeinpressuresetting,alwaysapproachthe
desiredpressurefromalowerpressure.Whenreducing
fromahighertoalowersetting,rstreducetosome
pressurelessthandesiredpressure.Dependingonthe
